Went for Mothers Day with my family. Had a really bad experience from the moment we got there. Even with a reservation we had to wait 5-8 minutes for a table. 10-15 minutes went by without a server even coming to the table. The hostess had to stop by and bring us water because she felt bad of how long it was taking. We put in our drink order and it took another 10 minutes to get our drinks. I saw the server walking around during that time. The Diet Pepsi was flat. After delivering our drinks, the server asked if we needed anything else at the moment. She wasn't even going to take our order at the time. We had a small child with us who was getting very antsy and hungry. We asked if we could get her something quickly so we placed her order and the server said she would put it in to have come out first. 30 minutes went by and the kids meal hadn't come out yet. I finally had to go ask where it was. The kids meal was a grilled cheese and chips and salsa. The chips and salsa could've been delivered immediately. After asking where the kids meal was, she had to come back two different times to tell us that the kids meal was coming out very soon. Then it took another 10 to 15 minutes after the kids meal came out to get our meal. One redeeming quality was at least the food was hot and tasted good. My nephew asked for a ranch with his wings and when she delivered that 10 minutes later, she said we wouldn't be charged for it. Really? Wow, thanks so much. Because we were at party of six, there was an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill. This was disappointing considering I would not have tipped 20% for the awful service we received. It wasn't until I got home and looked at a picture I took of the bill to pay my brother back for my portion, that I noticed we were charged for a $15 soda pitcher that we never ordered. So I called and asked to speak to a manager. This was my opportunity to express my disappointment in our experience. He asked our servers name and did not act surprised when he found out who we had. Not a good sign. He reversed the charge for the pitcher and offered a $10 gift card on our next visit. I told him don't bother because I probably won't be returning. Loved revisiting Up North Ale House as it was a favorite spot of mine when I lived in the area some years ago. It has an elevated bar vibe, offers daily specials & good pricing, and menu has something for everyone. They also have a lot of craft beers which is a bonus when I bring others. I visited with my fiancé and parents while in the area and everyone was impressed by the food and atmosphere. It was a bit crowded but the staff handled everything great. My go-to are the boneless wings and sharing a side of fries. The wings are breaded well but still have a lot of meat and sauce is present but not overdone. The burgers are my second go to so my fiancé got the Pineapple Whiskey Burger. It was HUGE and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Beers came in good sized glasses and mixed drinks on special were stiff which is a thumbs up in my book. Happy to see that Up North Ale House continues to thrive in the community. Food is fabulous & beer selection is excellent, but what I like best is the ability to "buy the kitchen a round" if you enjoy the food...for $20 how can you not? We started w the Bavarian and it's huge & delicious! I was warned the chic parm was huge and it was...I could only eat half. Spaghetti it was served w was excellent and the chicken was perfectly cooked. My "date" had the salmon & swears it was the best he ever had....but he also had the tots and sweet potato fries so he may not have the most refined palate. Great food! Good service. Buffalo breaded cauliflower was delicious. Thin coating of breading on fresh cauliflower vs all breading with a tiny bit of cauliflower, which is what you get at most restaurants. Nice strong buffalo flavor! Normally topped with blue cheese crumbles and a side of blue cheese. We got it with no blue cheese, and opted for a side of ranch. Yum! We got a medium (14") pizza with onions. It was absolutely amazing. Crust is thicker than thin, thinner than pan. Crispy perfection! Cheese was real, not that cheap artificial stuff many restaurants use. They could have been more generous with the onions ($2.75). Served piping hot. Pizza was half price (Thursday special). Great deal!!! Pop was flat, but Jenny, our waitress replaced it with one from "the back, because the front one tends to be flat." Huh? Overall a great experience, with some exceptional food. read more

Up North is a solid local place for bar food and drinks. Several drink specials from tap choices to cocktails. Not the fastest in terms of service but still attentive. Southwest burger and potato wedges were good, as were parmesan garlic wings and the create your own pasta-fettucine alfredo-was enjoyed as well. Checked email for pickup verification, had an email stating,"We are closed for Easter, sorry, we will issue you a refund." Two more emails confirming my payment, they are still closed and I still have no food. Happy flipping Easter to me, 5:15pm and now I need to figure out a new dinner plan! It's ok to close for a holiday, but why is your website still actively taking orders and accepting payment when the restaurant is closed! We had a 6:30 reservation on Saturday night. We were greeted promptly by 2 helpful and polite hostesses. Our friends were still on the way so we were seated at 6:15. There was plenty of room outside and inside we chose a nice round table for four on the back wall. Our friends arrived, we ordered some drinks and dinner. Our orders (pictured) came in good time and prepared as ordered. I had the Pappardelle Bolognese with Italian sausage. Our table also ordered Buffalo Cauliflower, dry rub wings and Braised Short Ribs. My order took a little more time because they needed to adjust my Pappardelle's Italian sausage to well done as I ordered it. I didn't mind at all and as someone who feels uncomfortable sending anything back... Another waitress told me about the issue and our waitress followed up shortly as well. All our food was delicious and it was obvious to us the staff really cared about their customers having a memorable experience! One final point, we never felt rushed. It was nice to feel comfortable to catch up with our friends for a while after we finished our dinner. Keep up the great service, food and drinks. I didn't come here with wings in mind, but on my way out a customer told his friends he was coming back just based on the wings alone. Then I saw they were on special for 99 cents a piece. I wasn't expecting much but what came out where huge, crispy, and absolutely delicious wings. I'm mad they are so good because there is so much else I want to try, but it will be hard to pass those wings up. We had the Gouda Mac and cheese bites as an appetizer for the table. My wife had the pineapple bourbon burger, and our friends had the short rib Alfredo and the Pappardelle Bolognese and they all looked fantastic. It was confirmed by everyone that was the case. I wish we had more room because they have a fried ice cream dessert that I would love to try as I've not had that since Chi-Chi's was still around. We dined at up north for a Friday lunch. We were shocked that there was literally no one in the restaurant. Hoping this meant we would have excellent service, that wasn't exactly the case. They had an issue with their pop machine, so the Pepsi came out after our food. I had ordered a salad with avocado, and they neglected to add the avocado. They did bring me a side after I pointed this out. However, the food was very good. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. My father in law was in the mood for a pork chop so we went to Up North. When we walked in the door we thought it was just another sports bar. A plethora of video screens with many sports options - the NBA playoffs and the Stanley Cup, previews of the NFL draft, golf and baseball. But then we saw the menus. The food menu had a great variety of options and the beverage menu was also spectacular. But we came for the food: My father-in-law had the double cut pork chop with a baked potato and asparagus. I had the Salmon with rice pilaf and asparagus. When the food arrived we were also impressed. The pork chop was huge as was the baked potato. The salmon looked and smelled delicious. The pork chop was a bit dry and seemed overdone (but then no one wants to serve undercooked pork). My salmon looked delicious and was the most tender and moist fish I have ever eaten. The rice pilaf seemed average. I love asparagus and was not disappointed. I would definitely go back there but I have a dilemma - Is there anything on the menu that can top that salmon? We arrived shortly after 5 pm and very few tables were occupied. The service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. By the time we left, people, including families, were pouring in. As for the ambiance, it was what I expected from a sports bar. Noisy, but not boisterous. I love this place. We live less than 10 minutes from Up North and they are fast becoming our go-to spot. The service is always great, menu options are wonderful, food is always prepared right and tastes delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and the patio is nice(has a great open bar that connects with the inside). The prices are some of the best around. There aren't many places where you can get quality food for a relatively low price. Any time my wife and I have eaten dinner here, its been well under $100 and that's with tip. The best sounding thing to me was the Hummus Wrap. It's $12.99, which was the worst sounding part. This is full of stuff. Hummus of course. There's also avocados, baby spinach, carrots, cucumbers, pesto mayonnaise, and tomatoes. Get it vegan without mayonnaise. This also comes with chips and salsa. Hummus always makes vegetables taste better. This was making up for guzzling the booze and a much healthier choice than something such as fries. I wanted to write an updated review. Our hiking group often stops here after our hikes. They handle our group well. Today we had the most excellent service from Brian (sorry not sure if Brian/Bryan). We had a group of about 20. Not only did he give us an big back area, he was on top of it. He was hustling running orders, grabbing drinks, separating checks, etc. He was wonderful. I've been here twice and it is a solid spot. Only been here for lunch, however, I can imagine the dinner plates are equally as good as what I've had on the lunch menu. They have everything from burgers to some classic pasta dishes. Today I enjoyed the steak wrap and tots I had for lunch. Tender, razor thin steak slices piled into a basil wrap with cheese and lots of goodness. Up North has a great beer selection with plenty of local favorites and a strong variety of ciders, sours, IPAs and lagers.
