Coming from Southern California, how come we don't have any nice gas stations like this around here? Did a quick pit stop here on our way to New Mexico to stretch and buy snacks and we were quite surprised with what they offered. Clean restrooms, friendly staff... and the food choices are not like your typical gas station. Breakfast pizza (delicious!), burritos, & sandwiches. Variety of pastries, donuts, and danishes on a display case. The maple bar was to die for. If I didn't leave soon enough, I would've bought everything there.

    Bangs at QT!

I love QT has stations. They are clean and fast and friendly. This one is in a rough location and often I have been asked for money or their free air has been vandalized and broken. They are quick to fix things though and have a security guard to help with the rest!

Quick Trip was whack. They didn't have any tea made, they charged me for ice, and were slow.

They got tons of gas pumps so even when it's busy you can still re-fuel pretty quickly

this is the only gas station I have been to where all the pumps have cars next to them, but no one is pumping gas.

I did some research and found Fry Bread House on the way to the airport, a James Beard award winning restaurant, and it did not disappoint. I got the Birria taco with the dipping sauce and it was amazing. The meat was tender with a generous amount, topped with cheese and onions. The sauce was the star. I could only eat half and took the rest with me. It didn't travel as well but it still tasted good. If you are in the Phoenix area, make a stop here. They also have parking in the back which makes it easy.

Okay, I've been rummaging through the James Beard lists and such for the area, and I stumbled upon…read morethis gem that received a James Beard a while ago. It's a small little joint. I took a friend here, and we both got the ultimate fry bread taco! They offer it with ground beef, or red/green chili beef. The green chili was the spicier option, so we went with that. Shoutout to the lady at the register for taking the time to walk us through the menu so we could decide what we wanted. The fry bread is similar in concept to a pita combined with a funnel cake, I suppose. It's actually quite reminiscent of the Vietnamese Bánh Tiêu, if you've had that before. Texturally, its soft, tender, and cuts fairly easily. Couple that with the toppings of beans, cheese, onions, sour cream, and the beef, and you're in business. It really is like a massive taco, served open face, and you can eat it with your hands, with a fork and knife, or any combination of the two! It's fun! As an intro to the Native American cuisine of this side of America, it's a great beginning. It makes me wonder what other things I've been missing. Okay, it's gonna sound reductive, but the taco is pretty much a ginormous chalupa. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. We also ordered a dessert variant, with butter and chocolate sauce, and, as you can imagine, smothering anything with butter and chocolate sauce will make it taste great!

My daughter has been raving about this place so I thought I would give it a shot and googled if…read morethere was an Angie's near where I was going to be and lo and behold, there was not too far away at 1st Ave/Thomas. That location is close to a place I go to frequently, so this is another option for me if I should need some food and don't want to do Salad & Go, but want something healthy. I got an Asian Grilled Burrito with Wild Salmon. Was driving so a bowl I could not do. I could barely eat the burrito driving because it's sort of flat and had rice. It was very yummy. Something I learned was Angie's does not have straws and if you order a Refresher, they give you a packet of something to put in the cup. You have to figure out how to make the Refresher, which I saw at the soda fountain dispenser there was sparkling water, so I did that and some Vanilla Torino's. I went about 11 am, and the Torino's were nearly gone and the little table that it was on was fairly unclean. The area to order, where you pickup the order, the soda area, and the metal table by the soda area were all really close and crowded. Since this was my first time there, I didn't even understand that you had to order at some kiosk. They had one by the pickup area and 2 more on the east wall. Felt overwhelming for me. I did not see what the dining area looked like. My burrito was $11-12 and the Refresher was $2. My daughter said their prices were much better than Salad and Go and other places, but I found my meal similar. Oh, I guess the getting wild salmon was the costly thing. Had I gotten chicken, it would've been much less. My daughter said she's never had their burritos, only their salads. A lady that had ordered many times there did help me with some things I didn't understand and she said she loves their food. Turns out the owner of Angie's named the places after his mom who passed away about 5 yrs ago. He also started Salad and Go and this is upscale from Salad and Go. I'm glad this is an option. But maybe they can keep prices good is to cut on the things that don't really matter as much and focus on the food. I'm good with that. The next time I go to an Angie's, I will be better prepared. There isn't one too close to me like there are lots of Salad and Go's, so I hope they open some in Gilbert, Mesa, and Scottsdale. Oh, parking is not that great at this location. You basically need to be heading east on Thomas before 1st Ave as there are a few parking spots on the diagonal. Don't park in the First Watch parking lot. If you're coming west on Thomas, make a u-turn after you pass 1st Ave.
