And if you don't know about their affiliation with the dog rescue Almost There, you should. From what I understand, Almost There came first and it sits behind the pizzeria across the parking lot. For our daughter's 16th birthday, we took her and ten friends to do puppy yoga. It was awesome and the girls had a great time. Plus the instructor Meg was super chill and the volunteers made sure the experience was enjoyable. Then we walked across the parking lot for an equally amazing lunch. Pizza to the Rescue isn't an ordinary pizza joint. Think elevated. The eclectic interior is hard to describe. It's got a mid-century modern vibe with a mix of boho and tiki lounge. Sitting at the bar, my wife and I took it all in, admiring the decor, sipping our adult beverages, and allowing the girls to celebrate behind us on the patio. The service was excellent. Our server, the bar tender, the busser, and others all worked together as a team. It was also a sight to see. Now the food was unexpectedly good. Seriously, our roasted artichoke heart appetizer belongs in a fine dining restaurant. And so does the pizza. The variety and creativity is impressive, and the pizzas were delicious! The best part of this is the fact that 25% of Pizza to the Rescue's proceeds go to Almost There. Do yourself a favor and go try the pizza. And maybe pick out a puppy to take home with your leftovers. This place is fantastic! I'm an animal lover, so I really appreciate that they are partnered with a rescue and that part of the proceeds from this restaurant directly support the rescue. I ordered the meatball sandwich for just $10, and the bread on that sandwich is absolutely to die for. I also ordered a pepperoni pizza with basil oil for $10 as well, which felt like such a steal. I had a well vodka cranberry for $6, which was exactly what you'd expect--simple and fine. The food is what really stands out at this place. It's great food while also supporting a fantastic cause. I love wood fired pizza with a little bit of char, but this one was just too burnt for me. I was really excited to try their happy hour because getting a pizza for $10 and a draft beer for $5 is an awesome deal. Half the edges and bottom of the crust were way too burnt. Before diving into my concern, I want to preface my experience by sharing that the pizza, specifically the spicy diavola was flavorful. Additionally, ordered two Wendy's Caesars salads. I ordered some food to hold me over while I waited for my to-go order. The garlic bread with parmesan was generous and tasty, but honestly, paying four dollars for sprinkled garlic and cheese is overkill. The Margherita Pizza and the Funghi Formaggi Pizza were mid. We definitely had a mixed experience at our dinner. We had set a reservation before coming and were sat right away. However it seemed they never told anyone we were sat so we waited over 30 minutes for someone to greet us. Once a waitress did come over for our order, we very rarely saw her throughout the meal. The food was good. Wood fired pizza is the best kind and they do a good job. We came at 6pm on purpose to see puppies and were bummed that there is only one dog at a time because so many people wanted to hold the one baby that we never got a chance. They were very kind to give us a cheesecake for how long we waited. We were all a bit thrown off that they put olive oil all over the cheesecake. Best happy hour in Phoenix especially in this economy? I believe it's everyday from 2-5pm. The happy hour menu includes 10 pizzas, $10 Ceasars salad, $10 calzone, and $10 pasta! Got the $10 pepperoni pizza and it was so good and shareable along with the vodka sauce pasta. Both were really good. Pro tip order the hot honey for the pepperoni pizza. Went here for Valentine's Day, showed up 7:30ish with no reservation. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink and about 20 minutes later got a seat! It was starting to die down a little by then. We tried the prefixe menu, one appetizer the meatballs, two entrees the chorizo pizza and wild mushroom risotto, and one dessert the basque cheesecake for $60 per couple, pretty nice! The app was for my boyfriend since I don't eat red meat or gluten. He enjoyed it! Pretty large portion. I loved my mushroom risotto, so creamy and rich and cheesy but not heavy. The olive oil on and around it added deep complexity and buttery-ness that was addicting. The mushrooms looked different than in other Yelp pictures and I would've liked the other mushrooms better I think. These were more meaty and thick and the texture can be off for me, but that's a personal preference. I cut up the mushrooms and it added nice umami flavor. Some added protein would've been good, it was already $24. I didn't finish it though, saved room for dessert. Overall a top risotto I've ever had. My boyfriend's pizza was way too spicy for him lol. He said his lips were burning, he can't do spice and didn't realize it would be that spicy. He ate 1.5 slices then asked if he could get the margherita instead and they made him a new pizza it was very nice! He simply couldn't eat it so we really appreciated it. He liked the new pizza and we love how it's made in a wood fired oven! I'll come back to try the gluten free pizza since it's a homemade crust and they have a separate oven for it! Was seeing this place all over my Instagram and had to come out and try it for myself. What could be better than pizza and puppies?!? We ordered the Margherita Pizza w/extra sauce, this was truly our favorite, the pizza was delicious and a great size. We also ordered the spicy rigatoni the presentation was beautiful however I do feel this lacked some flavor. To finish we ordered their version of the pizookie, we both feel that it wasn't the best, it wasn't the ooey gooey cookie we were hoping for but not bad either. Service was great it was busy but our server did a great job handling both tables inside and on the patio. And their mission is so wonderful, we loved getting to seeing the cutest adoptable puppies and we even stopped at their rescue after also. One of the best happy hours in Phoenix! The margherita pizza is my favorite thing here and the rigatoni with vodka sauce is solid. All of the food is $10 during happy hour and the drinks are a good price as well. Parking can be a bit tight and service can be a little slow during happy hour, especially on Friday afternoons and weekends. I'm excited to see that they are now open on Sundays. read more

What could be better than eating pizza with dogs for a good cause?! This heartwarming establishment donates some of their pizza sales to the dog shelter nearby and has a dog friendly patio. The inside consists of a nice bar with a large TV and a wood fired oven in the corner. The wood fired thin crust pizza was exceptional and many had unique flavor combinations that worked well. The meatballs were good, but I would recommend trying another pizza instead. We didn't try the pasta, but it looked delicious and I will definitely be back to try. Alexis was our server for my first of likely many visits. The unassuming industrial style building belies the cute ambiance of the interior. It's very well decorated and the multi color mosaic tables are neat - with comfy chairs, too. So how is the food? Service and food were great! We split the Spicy Diavola pizza and really enjoyed the flavor and thin crust. Pizzas are cooked in a large pizza oven by the bar. Excellent crust texture and good ratio of ingredients to dough. I love that 25% of proceeds help fund Almost There rescue next door. The motto is Eat Pizza, Save Puppies. I'll be back for more! We originally came here to support the dog rescue, but were pleasantly surprised to find how good the food was. We ordered various entrees, appetizers, pizza and even their Wagyu ribeye. They were out of the smaller ribeye so they gave us larger one for the price of smaller one (score!). Since it was such large piece, it was perfect to share with the whole table. I finally made it to sit down and eat at Pizza To The Rescue but have picked up pizza's to go many times. The restaurant is in the same parking lot as the Animal Rescue facility and many times has a few pup's outside at the restaurant that are looking for a forever home. A portion of the proceeds also go to the rescue so your dinner will be supporting a good cause! The Chorizo pizza was my favorite pizza that I have had here! The Calabrian chili and basil are the perfect pizza topping for this pizza and the crust is nice and crispy. All of our servers have been consistently kind and check in plenty to make sure you have what you need. I've been at least eight times and each is a fun experience. If you call in with questions, they're happy to answer. It is a small business really worth supporting. 25% goes toward the dog shelter in the back of the property. Once in a while, they will host a dog adoption event on the patio. The interior design is modern, elegant, but relaxed. Plenty of places to seat at tall tables, along bar, different sized tables in the large seating area and a lg patio. You do get the noise from Indian school, but that is par for the course in a big city. Sometimes they have a DJ or other live music. The streamed music is turned to just the right volume so you can also enjoy conversation. My only suggestion is they buy a bike rack so neighborhood folks can ride over and lessen carbon footprint. But they don't mind if we lock our bike to the side of the patio close to where we sit. Otherwise, there is plenty of car parking in the lot and surrounding small neighborhoods. SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS Pizza to the Rescue 2601 E INDIAN SCHOOL RD Phoenix, AZ 85016 It was my daughter's birthday and we decided to take her to a most unique place to eat. Pizza the Rescue is an eating establishment which is tied to a dog rescue located behind the premises. 25% of all pizza sales is donated to the rescue. We opted to eat on the outdoor porch so that we could be near the puppies which are brought out one at a time and put in a pen where people can love on them. There was no shortage of people willing to love the puppies. Their menu is interesting. Not only do they have pizza with some hard to find ingredients, but they also have items from the kitchen that are also Italian but not pizza nor pasta. Companion ordered meatballs and spaghetti, with the meatballs having a little bite to them and the pasta being (I think) homemade. Companion #2 had a design your own pizza with meats on it and devoured it. Companion #3 ordered a mushroom risotto with chicken and surprised me by eating every bit of it even though the portion size was large. For myself, I ordered a mushroom pizza which was delicious and could not be finished. Their pizza's are all done in a wood fired oven which gives them a special flavor not found in regular pizza ovens. Companions 2 and 3 ordered dessert. Companion 3 ordered Basque cheesecake which was nicely done and companion 3 had tiramisu which while different from a regular tiramisu was nonetheless quite tasty. Restrooms were immaculate and a bit different from most others in that the sink was outside the restroom. A bit unusual to say the least. The handicap restrooms (2) do have sinks in them. Our server Alyssa was on top of things from the start and did a good job making sure out needs were met. 5 stars for outstanding food, cleanliness, and cute puppies! There were king oyster and a few other mushrooms on it in March 2025. The mushrooms have a great earthy taste with a great blend of cheese. It was so good we asked for another.
