Exactly what my service animal was wearing when in the store.
    Kenneth M.

Blatant discrimination against service dog handlers. My wife and I visited on March 15th. I am a disabled person that uses a service animal to mitigate my disability. After waiting in line several minutes, an employee approached and said that even though my service animal is well behaved, she had to leave as they do not allow any animals in the store for any reason because they make food on premise. She then added that we must not have seen the sign in a condescending tone. I have several problems with this encounter: 1. Service animals are granted access where the public is granted access, regardless of health code via title 3 of the ADA. This right is further enforced by state law. There are very rare exceptions where a facility that is both open to the public and manufactures food is able to deny access to service dogs. This is limited to restaurants where access to the kitchen is part of the experience. But as a general rule, if the kitchen is not directly accessible to the public, the areas that are accessible to the public must be equally accessible to disabled people with their service animal. This store had a food prep area behind a counter and WOULD NOT be exempt from requiring access for service animals. 2. The condescending comment about the sign is ridiculous. I understand that Fredericksburg is generally dog-friendly, so I naturally assumed that the sign meant no pets. That is a reasonable request. It does not specify service animals in any way. 3. The employee wouldn't go far enough as to actually ask me to leave. This is a major problem because I've been discriminated against, but don't have any meaningful documentation. Usually, you would be asked to leave, then you refuse until the police arrive to trespass you. The police either inform the owner of the state law (they are not able to enforce federal law), or they formally trespass you and provide an incident report. I could then use that incident report as proof and sue at both the state and federal level for discrimination. It also makes filing a request for criminal charges much simpler. 4. The person refused to identify herself. I don't know if she was the owner, a manager, or a rank and file employee. Without that paper trail, I'm upset, no longer wish to support their business even if they would serve me, and don't have the necessary support to escalate in a meaningful way to correct their behavior for the next guest with a service animal. In short, I can't speak on the chocolate as I was not permitted to sample or purchase anything due to having a service animal. Every other restaurant and store in Fredericksburg was perfect for me and my dog. I'm not sure why this is the one shop that doesn't know the law.

This is one of the places we always have to stop at whenever we visit Fredericksburg. The staff is always super pleasant and helpful, and we are never disappointed with our purchases. The liquid center chocolates are amazing. I always buy the tequila almendrado ones, and then ration them when I get back home lol.

So many chocolates so little time!!

Awesome chocolate shop! It is right next to Fredericksburg Winery so win win!! (See my review for the winery). There are a TON of chocolates from which to choose! Try the Maya Caya if you like a lil spice in your chocolate! You also get a free liquor filled sample. I chose the Tequila Rose which was very good and my sister chose the Double Chocolate Vodka ands she liked that a lot. They box the chocolates up very nicely for you. The chocolates taste "fancy"...definitely not like a Hershey bar, which I actually love. They paired very nicely with the wine we got from Fredericksburg Winery. My sister bought some as gifts. Me, I just bought some for myself and my boyfriend. VERY decadent and delicious!! Put this on your list of places to try in Fredericksburg!

Did someone say chocolate??? Well, in Fredericksburg, TX there's this little gem called Quintessential Chocolates. Love how you get one free sample (the hook...LOL) and if you're over 21 they have wine and alcohol filled delights. The chocolates are amazing and the liquor ones...INCREDIBLE. I've had many alcohol filled chocolates, but none ever tasted like my "free sample" Pecan St Rum. While the outer shell is dark chocolate, you feel like you're sipping on some pecan rum too. A wonderful combination of flavors that don't overpower, but magnify each other's specific character. I was also impressed with owner Lecia Duke's creation of a Purple Heart confection honoring the military and combat wounded veterans. If you are a Veteran, you get one free and it is a beautiful piece of chocolate artwork. I read an article about her...seems she did an apprenticeship at Lindt...one of my favorite chocolates. Huge shout out to Izabell...she did an excellent job handing out samples and explaining all of the different confections.

    Hair in chocolate

I rented an Airbnb for my anniversary. My bf surprised me with chocolates from here. I opened them right away. I was enjoying my chocolates until I bit into one of them and there was LONG STRAND OF HAIR STUCK IN THE CHOCOLATE. After taking pictures of it I pulled the hair and it just kept going. That's so disgusting! Please wear a hairnet & gloves! No one wants to bite into something and then have someone else's hair in there food! I now will never order from here.

Ever have that time when you just have to have some chocolate? This is a good choice when it comes to that craving. Located next to a winery store, it just seems like a natural location. I was greeted by one of the staff upon entering and started to check out the chocolate in the cases. There was a wide variety in the forms of chocolates - (assortments, spirit filled, coffee filled, nectar filled, ganaches, silks, barks) and I'm sure more that I haven't named. Just look and I'm sure you will find something you want to try. I tried an almond chocolate orange (orange infused chocolate with almonds/almond slivers in top). Very good! The chocolate is sold by the weight and is well worth it. It's very cool because they make all their own chocolate there in the shop. When you think about the skill that goes into making chocolate just right, it's saying a lot about the time, effort and heart they're willing to put into their product, which should say so much about them. There's even an area (in a room next to the sales area) where you can watch the chocolate making process. a fun way to spend time in a sweet way.

The liquor filled chocolates. Ok I had a few before I took the photo!

Stopped here recently and purchased the liquor filled chocolates. They are so unique and absolutely delicious! There are so many varieties to chose from and the packaging is hand labeled so you know what you are buying. The other chocolates are also scrumptious! The staff were all so friendly and helpful.

We stopped in to see what they had. The chocolates are pricey but what we did have was very good. Everyone was very friendly.

If you're truly a connoisseur, this might be the place for you. For me, it was 10 min to buy a $3 piece of chocolate.

The liquor chocolates are awesome. Ask for samples of those. The choco toffee bark hit the spot. Prices are good for local made chocolate.

Why doesn't this website(Quintessential Chocolates) come up when I search for chocolates infused with alcohol? I ordered from a place that had awful chocolates if I had known about this place I wouldn't have ordered from the place I did.

They only put certain items on their web site. Call them for what is available.… Read more

From the moment we walked through the door, Dan and Melanie made us feel like welcomed guests instead of customers. We were greeted immediately and escorted upstairs to a beautiful tasting room where we spent nearly two hours enjoying an unforgettable experience. Dan is one of the most knowledgeable and passionate business owners I've ever met. He walked us through not only each DKM wine and handcrafted chocolate pairing, but also the fascinating story behind how the business came to be and the meticulous process that goes into making every product. His professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine love for his craft were evident in every minute of the experience. And the products? Absolutely phenomenal. I can honestly say every single wine and every single chocolate was outstanding. The Moscato, sparkling wines, and red wines were all incredible. The chocolate pairings elevated everything even further. The turtles, brittle, chocolate-covered raisins, chocolate-covered strawberries... every bite was memorable. It was one of those rare experiences where you keep waiting for something to be "just okay," but it never happens because everything is exceptional. The factory itself is spotless, beautifully designed, and it's amazing being able to look through the windows and watch the production area where everything is made. The retail shop is equally impressive, filled with beautifully packaged chocolates, wines, gifts, and treats. We told ourselves we weren't going to buy much... that lasted about five minutes. There was simply no way we were leaving empty-handed. What impressed me most was the precision and care that Dan and Melanie have poured into every aspect of their business. From the presentation, to the storytelling, to the products themselves, every detail has been thoughtfully crafted. It's rare to find a place where the customer service is just as exceptional as the products, but Hill Country Chocolate absolutely delivers on both. If you're visiting Fredericksburg, do not skip this experience. Whether you're a wine lover, a chocolate lover, or just appreciate passionate business owners who genuinely care about giving guests an unforgettable experience, this is a must-do. Bravo, Dan and Melanie. Thank you for an incredible afternoon. We can't wait to come back and will be recommending Hill Country Chocolate to everyone we know. 5/5 without hesitation.
