I had some guys I meet here at training class recommended this place. It was not open till after 4…read moreso me and my wife thought we could give it a try, I was raised eating Catfish, and there are bad places as well as good places. Frying it right does require a unique skill so we were interested to see if this place lived up to the hype. Well you're in for a treat worthy of a road-trip meal -- warm hospitality meets seriously flavorful Southern seafood. This place nails that cozy, down-home vibe without skimping on quality or portion size. Their fried catfish fillets and catfish steaks are golden, flaky, and satisfy that crispy-outside, tender-inside craving perfectly. The peel-and-eat shrimp regularly show up on locals' highlight reels, and if frog legs are your jam, they're on the buffet lineup too. On busy nights the buffet spreads wide, offering fried shrimp, hearty fish, and classic Southern sides that keep your plate rotating. The drink lineup may not be fancy, but it's exactly what pairs best with this kind of food: ice-cold sweet tea and lemonade refreshingly cut through the rich flavors, and classic soft drinks round things out with ease. If beer or wine is your companion of choice, there's usually a modest selection available to complement the meal. Being from the South, sides are just as important as the entrée -- and Catfish Barn delivers. You'll find creamy macaroni & cheese, broccoli mac salad, green beans, and pinto beans that feel like grandma just put them on the table. Don't skip the fried okra and hush puppies -- they're classic, crunchy bites that dance beautifully with tartar sauce. After all that savory goodness, you need dessert. Patrons consistently gush about the pecan cobbler and strawberry dessert, often topped with ice cream that melts into every sweet nook. Whether you're a local or a visitor, they're the perfect last course to cap a soul-satisfying meal. Catfish Barn isn't just a restaurant -- it's a small-town institution where food, friends, and family come together over big plates and bigger flavors. The buffet style keeps everything hot and plentiful, the service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is casual yet full of warmth. Sure, expectations should stay humble (this isn't fine dining), but for genuine Southern seafood cooked with heart? This place stands tall. Would I come back? Absolutely -- with friends and a big appetite. All in all this was nothing crazy or fancy just down home southern cooking. Very inviting atmosphere. You can tell a lot of the customers are regulars and comfortable which in part is the staff because this was my first trip ever here and they made me feel at home.

We chose to sit outside, which was shaded and lovely. About 6-8 parking spots or park on the street. The menu was large, which I thought might be a bad sign (not great at anything?), but my goodness - we ordered three things and all were made with fresh vegetables (eg red leaf lettuce and red tomatoes rather than the nutrient deficit and disappointing shredded iceberg lettuce so common at Tex Amex places). The flour tortillas are solid, although I've had better (not super fluffy or dusted with flour, which I like). The red salsa is very very good - no chunks, slightly spicy. Highlight! The barbacoa meat was so flavorful. One thing I appreciated was that the portions were able to be shared, and their were slightly diverse drink options. No agua de Jamaica but horchata, basic American sodas, tea, and agua frescos. To make it a solid experience, the service was swift and kind even while busy - they even checked on us outside even though we opted to go there, not being necessarily sat there by the host. Little things very appreciated!

This place nails the perfect blend of authentic Southern hospitality, mouthwatering food, and a cozy, down-home vibe that makes you feel like family. I ordered the Cajun blackened catfish, and let me tell you--it was perfection on a plate. The seasoning was bold, spicy, and perfectly balanced, with a crispy exterior giving way to tender, flaky fish. My wife went for the ribeye, cooked to a juicy medium-rare, and it was one of the best steaks we've had in years--rich, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. We shared the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer, and they were an absolute highlight: plump, savory, and bursting with cheesy, garlicky goodness. Portions? Massive. We left stuffed and happy, with leftovers for the next day. The value here is outstanding. The service was top-notch--our server was friendly, attentive, and full of great recommendations without ever feeling rushed. The restaurant itself has such a fun, welcoming atmosphere: walls covered in taxidermy, quirky photos, and local charm that spark smiles and conversation. It's the kind of place where you linger after your meal just to soak it all in. If you're craving real Cajun flavor, generous helpings, and a true hometown feel, Who Dat's is a five-star winner. Brown's Catfish in Russellville, Arkansas - A Local Gem with a Buffet That'll Win You Over (Even If…read moreYou're Not a Buffet Person) We stumbled across Brown's Catfish in Russellville after hearing some good things and decided to give it a shot. My wife loves catfish. I, on the other hand, have a soft spot for buffets--mostly because I like a little bit of everything and a lot of the desserts. Normally, my wife avoids buffets like they're haunted, but after checking out some photos and hearing the buzz, even she was curious. So, next time we were in town, we made a stop. First thing we noticed: this place was packed. It felt like all of Russellville had shown up for dinner--but that's usually a good sign. Even with the crowd, the place was impressively clean. The staff was on top of it--constantly wiping things down, restocking, and making sure everything looked fresh. They even had gloves available at the buffet, which was a nice touch. Now, onto the food--which is really why you're here, right? The buffet lineup is stacked. There's a full salad bar for those trying to make their plate look balanced before diving into fried deliciousness. Sides included southern staples like corn on the cob, candied carrots, beans, and a solid gumbo. The entrée station had different styles of catfish (including Cajun and regular), shrimp, crab cakes, and chicken strips. Sometimes they even serve chicken on the bone if you catch them at the right time. Dessert? Let's just say the four major buffet food groups were represented: warm cobbler, cookies, cinnamon rolls, and soft-serve ice cream. My wife basically fell in love with the cinnamon rolls and now refers to them as "worth the trip alone." The inside is cozy and decked out with plenty of southern decor to look at while you try to justify going back for a third plate. There's lots of seating, and even though it was busy, it never felt cramped--which is a big win in my book, since I'm not exactly small and appreciate a little elbow room when going after fried catfish. The service was top-notch. Friendly staff, quick to refill drinks and clear plates, and just all-around attentive. You can tell they take pride in the place, and it shows. Now, I'll be honest--every review needs one tiny critique. The chicken tenders were a bit on the chewy side, and not just once. We've been there three or four times now, and it's always the same. Not undercooked, just... chewy. My son, a self-declared chicken tender expert, confirmed it too. It could be the cooking temp or the type of chicken they're using, but it's a minor flaw in an otherwise fantastic spread. Bottom line: Brown's Catfish is a must-stop if you're in Russellville. It's a locally-loved spot that lives up to the hype. My wife, the buffet skeptic, is now a full-on believer--and every time we're in town, she's the one asking to go back. Between the catfish, the cinnamon rolls, and the warm hometown feel, Brown's is officially in our rotation. Support your local spots--especially the ones that serve catfish this good.

It was my very first time dining here. When you walk up to the front entrance, you're greeted by a set of concrete steps, which are reminiscent of an old-timey church. (If you're handicapped, there's an entrance around the corner that leads through their kitchen.) Although this joint specializes in catfish, I grew up fishing and eating walleye, northern pike, bass, etc. I never developed any taste for a fish that had a muddy flavor. So, I ended up ordering the chopped beef steak (3/4ths pound) with extra mushrooms, extra onions, and red peppers. For my sides, I went with grilled vegetables and coleslaw. It also came with a perfectly browned piece of toast. Because virtually everyone else ordered catfish or some variation, the servers brought out hush puppies, brown beans, and pickled green tomatoes for everyone (including me). On this hot and humid day, I enjoyed and appreciated multiple cups of refreshing, unsweetened iced tea. My favorite foods included the deliciously creamy coleslaw, the pleasantly and unexpectedly tasty and tangy pickled green tomatoes, and the crunchy hush puppies. Be sure to request a side or two of their tangy tartar sauce for dipping the hush puppies into. I don't know which kitchen worker decided to spill the salt shaker onto my grilled vegetables! There was zero finesse whatsoever with how they chose to season something that needed none at all. The two female servers were efficient and very patient with our large and talkative group. My bill for my meal and drink was less than $20.00! I was very pleased with how affordable this restaurant was. I would probably return again, if in the area, now that I'm familiar with how the food is prepared here. Three and a half stars, rounded down to three, mainly due to their overuse of sodium in some of their offerings.
