Who dat say dey gonna eat dem Cajun... foods... in Arkansas? Anyway, yup, a genuine Louisianan chef has worked his way up to Bald Knob and maintained this wonderful establishment. Let's go through things one by one. * Expect a wait. For being half a mile off the Interstate with no signs, it was packed. At 8 pm on a weekday, I waited 20 minutes as a single attendee. They do their best to clear tables and keep things moving, but this means the locals know this place and love it. And by "locals", the ones across from me lived an hour away and came up two days in a row to get some fresh crawfish before it was gone ("last weekend" was advertised). That tells you something. * Patient and friendly staff. Refilled my car-trip water bottle for me. Brought over a fresh hot sauce because my table was nearly out. Pro tip: ask for Louisiana brand, it's all natural and the name says "I am Cajun." * Fun atmosphere. Open but down-home. It sure doesn't feel corporate, they did a nice job touching it up. The only non-food downside: No wi-fi available. With that, on to the foods: * The gumbos are probably a little overpriced for their size, but I expected that. The chicken sausage gumbo had wonderful dark roux flavor, just a little runnier than I'm used to my gumbo. But I don't eat gumbo often, so this may be the right consistency. * The crawfish etouffée, on the other hand, is a wonderful value. Yes, it's got quite a bit of rice at its base (maybe I shouldn't have gotten two rice-based dishes), but it has quite a bit of crawfish and vegetated sauce on top. Again, very flavorful. * You get a little puffy roll with the gumbo. You get a little puffy roll with crawfish etouffée. Make sure every dish you order comes with at least one, preferably up to infinity, puffy rolls. SO GOOD. I want to go drive back there right now for more but they're closed for the night. * I didn't order the hushpuppies but I noted I was intrigued on someone else's plate, and they magically ended up on mine. (It was, in fact, part of the dish anyway.) Turns out they're rather oily and were a bit overfried. Oh well. * They may or may not have desserts besides bread pudding, but the non-local locals I waited with up front said there's a different bread pudding flavor every day. They magically had a whole loaf of bread pudding in their hands moments later - those are up by the register and disappear quickly. Now, I'm not a bread pudding guy, but if there is ONE flavor that will get me, it's berries. And they offered triple berry bread pudding the night I was there. I was stuffed from dinner, so I brought it home and ate it the next day. Despite still being stuffed, I couldn't wait. If anything, I wanted Even More Berries inside but it's a good sized slice for the price. The loaf is a steal, comparatively, but I knew I couldn't pack one of those away. It was gone when I left, to no surprise. The verdict: A couple of imperfections noted above - the wi-fi, the hushpuppies - but considering the location and the food quality, I'm leaving all my stars and recommendations for travelers in the area I've now heard of. read more

A hidden gem from most people in Central AR, but if you know, you know. We went with 7 of our son's friends plus our son and the two of us. We went on a Saturday night. They do not take reservations, but they were very eager to help get us in as quickly as possible. We arrived at 5:30 and put our name on the list. We were seated around 6:30 - which a one hour wait on a Saturday night with 10 people isn't bad at all. There is room inside to wait but it's pretty crowded on a weekend so bundle up if you want to stand outside or just go to your car. When we were seated, the waiter was awesome. He wasn't frustrated by a large table of people. They weren't annoyed at having to pull tables together for us either. The food was amazing. Huge portions too. Even these college boys had leftovers to take home. I got the bacon wrapped shrimp which was delicious and the rice was great. I love their hush puppies. One of the boys got a shrimp po boy and it looked like the closest thing to the original I've seen outside of New Orleans. The bread was the original bread and the sandwich was huge and stuffed with plenty of shrimp. The service never wavered. They brought bread pudding for my son's birthday. Again, it was as good as any I've ever had in NOLA. Honestly, the prices are reasonable too. For 10 of us (all drinking water and 2 orders of Boudin Balls appetizers), our total bill with tip was less than $300. Good luck finding that price for that level of food and service in Little Rock. We were looking forward to this place for over a week. My parents and my family both ordered the crab cake, alligator bites, cheeseburger, and 2 seafood platters to share. It was loaded with food, but overall I was disappointed. I think we all were honestly. The alligator bites were salty. The crab cakes was not seasoned much, and neither were our seafood platters. The gumbo was the favorite amongst all of us. My dad mentioned his crab legs tasted old and chilled. The étouffée lacked seasoning, and our food was not very hot. This was the best restaurant I went to during my week long stay in Searcy. We waited an hour for a table on a Saturday night but I know why the line was that long and I know that I will wait in it again gladly for this delicious Cajun food. I grew up in Mobile, AL eating all of this same food and it the food at Who Dat tastes just like the good hole in a wall places on the Gulf Coast. They are doing it right here. I got that big whoppin sampler platter. Man was it so packed with delicious food. On top of that, the food bar that came with the main dishes was full of great Cajun side dishes. Wow, I had just been driving threw the area and looked up a restaurant on my way threw. I am so pleased that I stopped and ate at Who Dat's. The waitress was super sweet and I asked her for a recommendation on what to eat. I have to say that the food was so good, I ate the whole platter of food. I had the blackened Catfish on rice with Étouffée and fried crawfish tails. The seasoning was delicious and the seafood was fresh and juicy. Totally the bomb. We stopped here on our way back From Batesville. We were really looking Fwd to a good meal. I had gator dinner $20 my with had shrimp cakes and crab cakes $20 my father in law I believe got the fest it had everything $40. Service was slow it took us 15 minutes to get drinks a table of waters. The food was 40 minutes later. And it was not good in the lest. My gator was over cooked very chewy with zero flavor. My wife's meal was all stuffing with very little shrimp or crab. My father in-laws was so bad he couldn't finish it. He said even the fried catfish was not good. He initially told us our wait wouldn't be that long when we came in and put our name on the list. After an hour of waiting and seeing multiple parties seated ahead of us I told my teen daughter who was sitting closest to the podium to ask where our name was on the list and how much longer it might be. She asked him, and he hatefully told her we would be seated when he seats us. He said he had a bad headache and she was making it worse. She then said she was just asking because people that came in after us were seated before us. And he proceeded to begin chew my daughter out, cursing at her. I and my boyfriend stood up and told him he isn't allowed to speak to a child that way and he began yelling at us. I have eaten here before, and have heard lots of stories of this man and how awful he treats people but have never experienced it before now. A rare five-star rating from me! This place has a lot going for it - great atmosphere/decor, very friendly staffers, and some great food. Hubby and I were celebrating a special event and decided to make the 1 hour drive to try Who Dat's. We arrived at 4:45 and the place was already packed. Even though it was crowded they seated us pretty quickly. We started with fried pickles because I must try fried pickles everywhere I go (unless the pickles are "spears" instead of "chips".) It is a very large serving. The pickles were good but we were filling up too fast! Hubby ordered the grilled bacon-wrapped shrimp and crawfish tail combo. I ordered the stuffed shrimp and catfish combo. Both combos came with a baked potato and 2 hush puppies. My advice to folks eating here - skip the fried items on the menu. It's not that they are bad it's just that the grilled items are unbelievably great. Hubby's order killed mine in taste comparison...and keep in mind that mine was still good. Meanwhile the guy at the next table had a steak that looked and smelled delicious - I'm definitely trying the steak next time. We had the chocolate pie for dessert. Nothing to write home about but we were in a celebratory mood. We ended up with a ton of food to take home for at least another meal. For the two of us, the total was $57 before tip. Despite what other reviews say, I think it is a fair price for this level of food. We will be back! read more

My visit to Who Dat's during lunch time was alright. My group and I came around lunch time on a weekday. Because of that, we were escorted real quickly to our seats (which is great!)....but that's where the fun ends. The biggest issue I have with this place is how subpar the service is. The server had an attitude toward us since she first saw us and asked for our drink orders. We didn't have any complicated requests. To add to that, she was rude when I stated I wanted to split the large burger with my husband. I understand company/restaurant policy that technically we cannot split an entree, but it didn't need to be delivered in a condescending way. Also... she gave one of my friends the wrong order. He emphasized getting the large bowl of gumbo, but he ended up with a small sauce-cup-sized cup of gumbo. All four of us at the table heard him emphasize what he wanted, yet she gave the wrong order. I would like to say that the food is alright, but I don't know if I'd go back for pricey fried food. Despite all this, I like the fact that this is the only restaurant in the area that provides Cajun food and it is very close to the highway. Food was good once we got the right food. Our waiter was Hunter- he sucked. Forgot everything we asked for and didn't listen when we tried to explain. Someone in our group had an allergy and we had to send food back for a remake. Food tasted great. Steak was standard, cooked to right temp. Shrimp salad was huge and shrimp were cooked properly. Well it has finally happened I took my Asian self to a real Cajun restraunt. I had no clue what to think going into this experience, but I came out the end of this with a love of Cajun food. If for some reason you are lost in Arkansas and end up in the middle of no where you may stumble upon the town of bald knob. While the name might sound silly it is home to who dat. And it is worth the adventure. Food is amazing servers are super firendly. The food portion is so large I felt like a little kid who couldn't finish my whole meal. I called on Tuesday and spoke to a lady. I asked if they would have crawfish for LUNCH! She suggested we drive over on Thursday because she got crawfish In Wednesday. We made over a two hour drive and guess what? They do NOT serve crawfish for lunch! Totally wasted gas money and my day for nothing! The best cajun food restaurant in White county, ran by real Cajuns. The huge shrimps and the steaks are cooked to perfection, they are out of this world, not to mention the potatoes logs, the rice and beans or the crayfish dishes. They have a large variety of authentic cajun dishes.They have a salad bar (included with a meal). They also have good desserts. The waiting is a little long as this place gets crowded, but the waiting is worth it. The service is good and friendly. They also have take outs, give them a call.
