Pulled Pork over Mac & Cheese, with a Cornbread Muffin ...
    Troy B.

I was at Helicon Brewing in Oakdale for the Helicon Open Pinball Tournament, and R&G's Smoke Shack was offering up some BBQ for all the pinball and beer lovers. The smell of the smoke is what got my attention, as I could smell it as I was playing pinball, and it was making me hungry. At lunch time, I went out and got some Pulled Pork over Mac & Cheese, with a side of Corn Bread . . . it was pretty good. I never put BBQ sauce on my meat, as I like to taste the meat and not hide the flavor with sauce, but they did offer me a choice of sauces if I wanted it. I enjoyed my lunch. Later on, after the tournament was ending, I ordered two turkey legs to take home for myself and my wife for dinner. She is gluten-free, and Rich & Gino (R&G) assured me that most of their food was gluten free, except for the mac and cheese, and sandwich buns. In hindsight, I wished I would have gotten a side of baked beans, as they told me they were gluten free also. The turkey legs were O.K. in my opinion, the skin had a kind of sweet taste to it, but I am not a real big fan of skin, so I pulled mine off. I didn't enjoy the turkey as much as the pork, but then again, I am not a real big fan of poultry like wings and such anyway, but that's just me. Overall, I think this truck is good, and if I see them again, I will try the brisket and beans . . . Cheers!!

Here is a picture of the place, hauled behind a nice truck. Lots of room in the back for their smokers. Very nice and clean.

It's well-located in the Strip, and parking wasn't an issue like I thought it would be. This was a group event, so we dined in their party room in the back - the main area is lovely and people seemed to really be enjoying their conversations and food. Service was excellent - our staff were attentive, polite, and knew just the right way to be helpful but not distracting. Their recommendations were spot on and I really liked how they packed up the food that remained at the end of the event and had it ready for people in our party. The skirt steak, chicken, and striploin our party had were amazing and perfectly cooked / seared. The carrots, mashed potatoes, Caesar salad, and beets were phenomenal - super fresh and not over-prepared or fussed with. Quality ingredients require that sort of respect, and I really felt that the kitchen aced these. Dessert was delicious, as expected, and the wine pairings highlighted our meal. Overall, a marvelous and nostalgic evening for me, and we will most certainly be back!!!!

The papas were seasoned phenomenally and even as takeout potatoes held up probably as good as they would've been fresh! The chimi sauce so flavorful The not great: Coliflor- cauliflower absorbs so much flavor, and I was so excited to try it because of that. However, their version was horribly underseasoned, though cooked really well! The eggplant crema had no flavor. I poured the chimi over it to save it, but we still didn't finish it. The sandwich- highest rated sandwich, but... The roll was soft, and the caramelized onions were tasty. That's where it stopped for me. The beef was dry, didn't have the charred peppers on it (paid extra for), there were three slivers of onion, and I couldn't taste either of the sauces. I know if I would've been able to give them the opportunity to fix what I wasn't a fan of, they would have. Unfortunately, with this being a pickup order, they were not really given that chance. Not horrible, but not amazing. Will definitely try again!

Upon entering the restaurant, there are crystal chandeliers, bright colors, French posters, and a lively atmosphere. The restaurant had a lot of potential until we experienced the service and cuisine. I brought my Supper Club here, and we had a group of 8 of us. There was also a very large group at the restaurant. We were neglected on several occasions, and it took us 2 HOURS just to get our food order. That's not an exaggeration. Our waitress was rather snippy with us, and ended up apologizing at the end but it did make for an unpleasant experience. When we finally received our bread, we were so hungry that we scarfed it down despite it being not so great sour dough bread. Every dish was flavorless and left us wanting more. I had to send back the steak on two occasions: once for being undercooked and once for being overcooked. I ended up getting my meal for free. The Coquilles St. Jacques had the smallest scallops without the lovely scallop shell its usually served in. The shrimp cocktail tasted like anything you could get at the grocery store. The Nicoise Salad was just sad and flavorless. The porkchop and escargot had the most flavor. I will definitely not be back to this establishment. Our group did enjoy each other's company, and it created a very memorable experience even though it was an overall bad experience!

He, however, called the other customers before me, and my husband and I were left there standing. The seating host had to ask for my name again, so apparently he had forgotten about me. The seating hostess looked too casual in her jeans. The experience got better. The room contained only 16 seats so was quiet. Throughout our dinner, our waitress provided timely and friendly service. Our appetizer was Bone Marrow, which tasted very rich with toast. For the main course, my husband's 12-ounce Queen Cut Prime Rib was juicy and flavorful, especially with the accompanying horseradish, beef au jus, and Yorkshire pudding. He called the prime rib a "dinosaur of a steak," and he had leftovers to take home. My special of Lobster Thermidor was fewer ounces but was also very flavorful. We also enjoyed our sides of Truffle Fries and Creamed Spinach. For dessert the Baked Alaska was a show for both our eyeballs (tall flames of fire!) and tastebuds. We did not order any alcohol. The total price for our six foods, state tax, and credit-card fee was $237 plus a tip.

The food was absolutely 10/10 from start to finish. We ordered the Tomahawk steak, which was massive and easily enough to share between 3-4 people. The marble potatoes and carrots were the perfect accompaniments and complemented the steak beautifully. To drink, we enjoyed the Hibiscus Berry and Dreamlife mocktails, both of which were refreshing and thoughtfully crafted. One thing to note for visitors from out of state: there are a few additional fees beyond the listed menu prices and tax, so the final bill may be higher than expected. That said, the quality of the food, generous portions, and overall experience made it well worth it. If you're looking for a memorable dining experience in Pittsburgh, Meat & Potatoes is definitely worth a visit. The dirty martini was fairly pungent and strong so not sure I would get it again but I'm also not big on dirty martinis so probably just the wrong choice on my part. But the food was the star of the show. We ate so many good dishes- starting with the rainbow platter. Loved the baba ghanoush and the roasted cauliflower - those were my favorite of the 7 dishes on the platter. We also ordered the labneh, hummus with chicken and lamb shawarma, and the kafta kebabs (rolled up in some sort of tortilla) which were all fantastic! If we come back (which we will) I would just order the baba ghanoush instead of the rainbow platter, all the other dishes we ordered, and maybe one additional plate. I felt like I didn't really need the Israeli salad (tomato and cucumber) or the pickled cauliflower and radish that came on the rainbow platter. The hummus was SO soft and fluffy. This was some of the best food we've had in Pittsburgh. After having lived in a Philly for 4 years, we know good mediterranean/lebanese food and I'd be surprised if you can find better in Pittsburgh. Service was also very good.

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.
