This is a hidden gem! The place looks amazing on the inside and has a real "grandma's house" feel. The food was unbelievably good! We had fried mozzarella sticks and they tasted fresh, not frozen. Happened upon this place while we were out browsing the antique stores. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised. We had calamari, chicken Alfredo, and shrimp Alfredo. Our meals came with a small side salad and rolls which were amazing especially for when the meals came out to dip in the Alfredo sauce. The service was quick and friendly. Servers appeared to be short-staffed, but pleasant. My wife had the ravioli and I had veal parmigiana. Both delicious, my veal was a little tough. They had a full bar. The owners seemed to be from the old country, always a plus in my book. When we walked in we sat at the bar area. My wife and I sat for a few minutes waited for someone to introduce themselves no one did. I had to use the restroom so I went ahead and then my wife went after me. During the whole time no one greeted either one of us. After sitting for about ten minutes someone finally came up to us and said which wine would you like.(because we asked if they had liquor or if it was just wine) Didn't introduce themselves or anything. Was going to give it three stars because the slice of pizza was actually good although a bit undercooked towards the crust which is actually something I like BUT the menu states the price of the pizza is 4 dollars. So here goes. Hillsboro Texas is a small town, the kind that you see in the movies but don't think really exist. The kind of town that looks desolate and empty. So my friend that lives in Fort Worth had a wedding in Hillsboro so the night before we all went out to Frenkie's. I had read both google and yelp reviews before going to the restaurant and wasn't exactly sure what to believe. The reviews were mixed, from a gentleman saying the place was romantic, to a lady saying the food and service was awful. It's safe to say neither were correct. The ambiance is quite weird. I'm not sure who designed the inside of the restaurant but they did an awful job trying to give in an Italian vibe. The decor is all over the place. I mean there are literally giant forks, on the walls. Not far from the giant fork is a deer head. I understand that it's Texas, but a dead head doesn't really go with the decor of an Italian restaurant in my humble opinion. The tables were basic and the chairs resembled ones that you typically find in a church baseman or hospital cafeteria. This place is far from romantic to me. I mean I imagine for someone that has lived in Hillsboro for ever this is an good as it gets but it's not remotely romantic. The decor and ambience are super weird and the restaurant itself seems to allow interior cohesion in regard to design. As far as the food goes that's a mixed review. There were about ten of us there and some enjoyed the food, others not so much. I heard that the salad had too much dressing and the dressing tasted weird from multiple people. Weird thing is, they all ordered different salads with different dressing and had the same complaint. My wife ordered a chicken Caesar and the chicken looked like the grilled chicken that comes pre cooked in a bag at the grocery store. She said her Caesar salad was sweet. A sweet Caesar salad is not a Caesar salad at all. Another friend order the chicken cordon bleu and let me tell you it was not what anyone expected. I'm not sure who told them that that's what chicken cordon blue looked like or why they served it the way they did but it looked awful. It consisted of pasta covered in sauce on top of a breaded chicken breast and a rather large piece of rectangular meat that resembled ham. Let me tell you we looked at it in awe. We are all people that live in major cities all over the country so we could be jaded by our restaurant experiences. Another girl in or group got the pasta combo which she enjoyed. He salad was more like lettuce being drowned in dressing so she was displeased with that. She also said the salad dressing tasted like pure tomatoes. She enjoyed her food so that's a bonus. I got the small Frenkie's special pizza with no Canadian bacon, sub sausage and it was pretty good. I really had no issue with my pizza at all. The service was decent nothing to special All things considered. Overall I think people that have this place 4 stars have never been to a really good restaurant and have no frame of reference for what a 4 star restaurant should be like. I suggest you small town 4 star frenkies folks drove to Dallas and eat at a real restaurant because that place is pretty not good. Yes I said pretty not good because I'm trying not to be disrespectful. If I was an investor I'd just open up a good restaurant in Hillsboro to take all of the frenkies dollars because humans deserve better experiences than what frenkies offers. If you do have to go there just get pizza, stay away from the salads and don't get the chicken cordon bleu Please excuse any typos this review wasn't worth a proofread read more

Really enjoyed the ambience and menu selections here. My wife and I went to Hillsboro today. We went to the outlet mall in town and stopped by here for lunch as a pre Valentine's Day lunch. From the romantic lighting and style to the romantic music the ambience here is on point. There was a great menu selection. Whenever veal parmigiana is on the menu I will get that. My wife coincidentally ordered chicken parmigiana. There is a lot of seafood and shrimp dishes as well on the menu. The pasta was cooked perfectly on my plate. The Italian dressing was different. The dressing had sun dried tomato in it and was pink. The dressings taste was different and hard to describe. Bread was awesome and light. Many layers like a croissant. The veal was very yummy and the music so romantic. Service was very good. She was very attentive w/o breaking the romantic mood my wife and I were in. We didn't feel rushed at all and both of us had a great time. We definitely will return next time we are in the area. read more

This place seems to be a local favorite so I decided to give it a try. The staff is very friendly and I was seated very quickly. The bread is amazing really good flavors and I couldn't get enough of it. The calamari was also good, although the sauce was not one of my favorites but everything else was pretty good. The pasta I had was the shrimp Alfredo and it had a sort of Smokey flavor to it. The sauce was also very creamy They only have one restroom which can get busy but it was clean. Angelica was amazing at explaining different things we had questions about. The food, however, leaves something to be desired. We ordered the chicken Alfredo, pasta combo and the buffalo wings. When we got home and sat down to start eating, we were very surprised. The wings did not have any sauce and had excess fat on them with little meat. The portions were ridiculously small. The pasta combo comes with several different portions of pasta. The combo included cheese ravioli, of which we received one (1) ravioli. The marinara sauce is watery at best. The Alfredo sauce could easily be mistaken for a cream sauce as it lacks its traditional cheesy flavor and feel. Overall, I am disappointed I spent $50 on dinner to be let down with subpar serving sizes and food quality. read more

This little place in small town Hillsboro Texas beats some of the finest, highest rated Italian restaurants that I've dined at in the United States. The service is awesome, and the young lady attending to us was fantastic. Despite being very busy, she checked on us often making sure that we enjoying our lunch and keeping drink refills coming. Always pleasant and smiling. And the food! WOW! is all that I can say. Again, I've dined at Italian restaurants in major cities that are famous for Italian food and this little place is every bit as good if not better than most of them. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the marinara sauce was spectacular. The Chefs presentation of their dishes is beautiful. Served piping hot, with true attention to detail. You'll forget that you are at a little town of 8 to 9 thousand people in Texas. And you can't beat the price. Feeding four of us with large delicious entrees, an appetizer and non alcoholic drinks was less than $100.00. I've paid MUCH more for smaller portions and food that wasn't near as good at other "Elite" restaurants. It's a 62 mile drive for us to get there, but it's one we're planning on making regularly. Hands down, BEST ITALIAN FOOD I've had in a very long time! This hidden gem has the most delicious homemade Italian food! Their lunch special is Monday-Saturday from 11 am - 3 pm. The best thing about the lunch special is the you get dinner sized portions for lunch special prices for dishes like, chicken alfredo and chicken parmigiana. We ordered the chicken alfredo, calzone w/pepperoni, and chicken diavolo. You can definitely tell that everything was homemade and that quality ingredients were used. From the noodles and sauce, to the complimentary bread, everything was delicious. Everyone at the table, including the kids, were very impressed. Do yourself a favor and visit this delicious gem! Stopped in with my boyfriend a few nights ago, the resteraunt closed at 10 and we were arriving at about 9:20, so we headed in. Nobody was at the front to greet guests but we waited. After about 5 minutes, a young waitress came to the front and asked us "can I help you?" In a rude tone of voice, when we asked to be seated she told us that they were closed. I told her it says they are open for another 40 minutes, she replied with "well were closed sorry" Sad. Used to be one of the best places in Hillsboro to eat, when they are open that is. Well, there aren't a whole lot of choices in Hillsboro. You've got a dying outlet mall, a few chain restaurants, fast food, and truck stops. I gravitated toward Frenkie's thinking it was akin to the Frankie's Past and Pizza in Mexia (which I love). But I was disappointed. The complimentary bread they give you before your meal was pretty bland. Nothing special. Nothing like Frankie's in Mexia. I ordered pizza, with tomatoes, jalapenos, and garlic. Again, it was nothing special. And again, nothing like Frankie's in Mexia. The crust was not fresh and homemade, and the toppings were sparse. However, it was pretty cheap. A small is 12 inches and only $6.95. But you get what you pay for, I guess. I thought the service was good though. There were two young women keeping up with the entire restaurant. It was pretty impressive. I might try this place again and order pasta next time I'm in the area. read more

A couple of years after I came here for the first time, I'm happy to report that it remains as good as it was a couple of years ago! Came here for lunch with my boss while passing through town. I ordered the spaghetti with olive oil, garlic, and basil from the lunch menu on the back and my boss ordered the chicken Parmesan sandwich. Mine came with a small side salad and I was pleased that they offered oil and vinegar. Our meals were both delicious and of good portions. My pasta had a lot of flavor, which is always a hit or miss when you order an olive oil-based pasta. It was cooked with fresh basil and had chunks of fresh garlic. Delicious! My boss was pleased with his sandwich and loved the bread it came on. Our meal was served with freshly made tools that were also tasty. Stopped in after trying to go to a new bar in town and it was "closed for training". Thought we would give it a try. Place is cute and clean we were kindly greeted and the service was good! Food was out quick. Barely had time to eat salad and warm bread! I got the shrimp and chicken with Alfredo creme sauce instead of white wine sauce and angel hair pasta instead of linguini. They kindly accepted my substitution with no faltering! It was very good and the portion could have fed 3 people! My husband got the Hawaiian Pizza, small. It also provided him with 2 meals today! We will come back when we are next in town. Hillsboro needs to support its businesses better do us visitors can continue to have great small town food selections! read more
