Unresolved permitting issue…read more I hired Sunshine Cooling Solutions to replace two HVAC systems at my Clermont home in June 2026. After the installation, I discovered that the required mechanical permit had not been obtained. I contacted the owner, Sam McClure. After I provided the applicable permitting requirements from the City of Clermont, he acknowledged in writing that an After-the-Fact Mechanical Permit should be obtained and said he would begin the process. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue, no permit application has been submitted. The City of Clermont independently confirmed that no permit application had been filed. I have filed complaints with DBPR and the BBB and notified Daikin because I originally selected Sunshine through Daikin's dealer locator. Based on my experience, I recommend that homeowners ask about permitting requirements and verify that required permits have actually been obtained before hiring this contractor.

Several hours later it could be restarted and would again run for several hours. Bob had me check the condensate safety float and as soon as I removed it the unit started up. Bob then walked me through how to clean out the drainage line. It was very clogged and after I cleaned it out as he instructed the unit has been fine ever since. I really appreciate that Bob took the time out of his busy day to help me with my problem with no expectation of payment. In my book, that is providing great value. Not only did they answer the phone on a Sunday, but scheduled a technician to come out the next day. Awesome! The technician arrived right on schedule, was very pleasant, and determined within seconds of hearing the A/C turn on that it must be the capacitor for the compressor. I've dealt with capacitors a lot in my life as an electrical engineer, so I knew that that should be a cheap fix. Chinese A/C capacitors sell for $25 on Amazon, so even with a small, local company mark-up I was expecting to get away with maybe a hundred bucks, plus the $95 service charge for coming out. To my surprise they charged me $420 for the capacitor, so with the service charge I paid $515 for a capacitor that Amazon sells for $65 (US made, not Chinese). I believe that at this point, the company is taking advantage of customers when they otherwise have to live in 95 degree heat, and I cannot recommend this company at all!

In spite of his busy schedule, he squeezed ours the very next day which is Saturday. Had he not checked that there's still few days left in the evaporator warranty, it could have cost us more or even resort to replacing the whole system. He managed to get us a new evaporator for free from the manufacturer (Goodman), re-routed the new copper lines through the attic instead of going underground which is much better when it comes to troubleshooting any potential leak issue. Charged up with new compatible refrigerant. John is very thorough and knowledgeable as well. He clearly explained any questions I had.
