I hired RE Roofing to replace my roof about 2 years ago. I got 3 or 4 bids and while they weren't the cheapest, they were the most detailed and Miles took the time to answer all my questions. They performed the work as agreed upon and didn't mind my annoying questions while the work was being done. There was a little more damage to the plywood under the roof that had to be replaced but I was told to expect the possibility of there being damage that couldn't be seen until the preexisting shingles were removed. In the end, there were two problems that had to be fixed, a bend in one of the gutters, and a cover to an outside electrical box that was installed backwards, but both issues were resolved. I hope I don't have to replace my roof again anytime soon, but if I ever do need a new roof, I'll definitely be giving them a call. read more

After looking for a contractor for quite some time for our new roof a friend recommended Miles and his family at RE Roofing, and immediately after discussing the project it was clear this was the group to move forward with. With all the myriad "gadget" roof devices available and presented by many of the previous bids, Miles took the simple approach of "here's the math for what is needed for good roof ventilation". No need for these other items with sound math to back it up, but all along willing to consider them if I really wanted to go that way. In the final analysis the basic approach was the best. We also have an extremely "aged" solar hot water system that still works, but with no chance the original installers are still around and no one seemingly willing to help remove it for the roof work. Miles was able to find Randy (at South Bay Solar) who was willing to dismantle then reassemble the panels. Kudos to both of them. So now we have a new roof, insulation, house fan and worry free gutters. We no longer broil in the evening when it is cooler outside and the garage for once in its life ventilates out the car, yard stuff and storage smells. I wanted to take some time to give this company a solid review. I met with Miles via yelp as I needed to get some work done on my patio cover. He's extremely responsive via Yelp and text message as well which makes it awesome to communicate. I inquired with 8 different roofing companies and he was the only one who was willing to come by the house to take a look and see if his company was a good fit to help us. Most other companies replied stating they are a few months out in terms of taking on a project. Ultimately, he did come out and was on time which is rare for contractors (in my experience). He looked at our patio and figured out that he wasn't able to assist us. He did gave us a few referrals on who could potentially help so we appreciated that. On top of that, he reviewed our roof to see if there were any issues and gave suggestions on how we can make things more efficient. I called several roofers to inspect some split wood in the attic and to advise on repairs. Miles took my call and listened to the issues before scheduling to come onsite for a consult. He started by inspecting the outside of the roof for issues, and testing the stability. Having found a 'soft spot' in the same area of my concerns, he then inspected the inside of the attic and made recommendations (add sister joints to support beams that had splitting, and some cross joints for bracing). His quote was reasonable and he communicated well throughout. When his team came on-site for the work, they were very respectful and considerate, working diligently until the end. The end job was completed quickly and the quality was high. Kudos to the team. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Miles and his team for any attic work you have. Once again I received top-notch service when RE Roofing came out to clean my gutters. They are very professional, great with communication, and quick to respond. They did my tile roof three years ago and I'm very pleased with how stable the temperature in my house is. The house doesn't get super hot or cold, and I hardly have to run my air conditioning in the summer, except for extremely hot days. And in the winter I almost never have to run the heater. They performed an Energy Audit on my house, and since then the house has been so much more efficient. They basically did a door vacuum that sucks out all the air in the house to find out where the air leaks were coming from. They re-sealed my windows that had leaks, and insulated my attic. Last winter our flat roof got a leak. I did a patch job myself but knew I needed to get it taken care of professionally before the next winter. I planned to do it during the summer, but time got away from me and it was already September when I called trying to get a roofer to come inspect and do repairs. Miles got back to me quickly to say he couldn't come out to inspect for a few weeks, but recommended another roofer if I needed someone immediately. I was fine with waiting and appreciated that customer service. Miles explained all parts of the quote to me and included alternatives, which was great. It would be several weeks before work could start and I got anxious about the rainy season starting. When rain was forecast before they could start work, Miles showed up to take care of a few things himself to hold us over! When work eventually started (various smaller patches all over my roof, recoat the flat roof section, and rebuild the patio roof), Miles gave me daily updates on what was done, when they'd be back to do what, etc. And did a good job cleaning up after themselves (the last roofer we had left nails all over the backyard and even in the pool! so this was really appreciated). Paul came to our house in Santa Clara three times before we signed a contract. First, to have a look at he scope of work, then to present a proposal and then to modify the proposal to accommodate our budget requirements. Paul met us late in afternoon to work around our schedules, made his approach clear and organized and explained what we are paying for. Contrary to our assumptions, roofing is more than slapping new shingles on the house. Proper ventilation requirements have changed since the house was build and was no minor detail in the scheme of things. A reminder call was made to remind of us of the start date and they arrived promptly, demolished old roof and had plywood up in the same day, and put plastic, luckily, as a small shower surprised us during the night. R E Roofing had it all under control. Two additional roof jacks were installed by request to hook up the bathroom fans that were previously venting directly into the attic! Foremen were present and articulate to answer all the questions we had throughout. To my surprise they moved an updraft vent from the front of the house, around a corner so that it was less visible from the street. Existing roof jacks were replaced and painted, and they didn't skimp on the attic vents, maximizing airflow as promised. At the end of every day site was left spotless. I stopped by the house during the last day and found the President conscientiously picking up trash around the house, and removing nails from driveway and yard. I agree with Bamboo - their quote is a bit higher than the other 3 quotes I had gotten, but they are within range. But then again, RE Roofing is using real plywood instead of the mushed up plywood the other companies were quoting - so in essence - better quality materials. The reps all were very knowledgeable and professional. I was very impressed with their presentation - as they even brought documentation to back up what they were telling me. We all have that one neighbor, right? Waist-high weeds, scrap metal pouring out of the garage, peeling paint everywhere, barely operable truck in the driveway? Even that guy's roof was in better shape than mine. Despite getting a lot of bids over the last few years, I hadn't been willing to pull the trigger on a roof replacement until the recession had finally waned. I probably spoke to 7-8 roofing guys over a year and a half--fully intending to get the work done, but.... I met Miles and his team in my second round of collecting bids. I was instantly impressed with his concern for quality materials and design. But I still blew him off because I just didn't want to write the big check yet. Miles kept in touch with me off and on for almost a year, and, really, I only made a token pass at getting competitive bids when I finally reached the breaking point with the old roof-- I knew who I was going to hire. Miles and RE Roofing were more knowledgeable, more concerned about providing a quality product, more customer service oriented, but still very competitively priced. We signed a contract with full confidence that we'd get a quality roof. Since there was to be a bit of a delay (totally normal) between signing the contract and the job commencing, Miles put some temporary shims in some of the worst spots in my roof-- they were the only parts of my roof that didn't look like they were dredged from the bottom of a swamp at that point. I don't recall asking him to do this-- he just did it. A week or so before the install, I asked Miles for a list of nearby homes that he'd done with the same materials we'd picked-- we wanted to see a few to help us finalize the color we'd use. We drove by one of his clients and the owner of the house was out front. I rolled down the car window and told him (so, you know, he wouldn't call the cops on me) why I was taking a picture of his house from my car. "oh, the roofer?", he said, "they were far and away the best contractor I used when we remodeled" So, there you go. Two 5 star Yelp reviews for the price of one, right here. You're welcome. My scheduling a roof replacement was just what the Bay Area needed. Rain!! Forecast for day 3 of my 4 day replacement. No sweat, says Miles. We'll be done. And they were. The on site crew was super professional. Checked in on a couple of things (they added a few square feet to the overhang on my front door at my request, and this made the gutter installation a bit problematic, but they had good solutions). Miles checked in with me as the job progressed. I'd ding RE Roofing a half star because they didn't sweep out the garage when done, which was called for in the agreement. But they also got the roof on before all the useless crap my wife has squirreled in our attic got soaked by the rainstorm my roofing job magically created, so we're even I guess. Clean up everywhere else was perfect. I deal with a lot of contractors in my professional life, and I'm frankly pretty picky and demanding. Some might even use the word "jerk". We just bought our house a couple of years ago, and the roof needed replacement. The quote RE gave us was actually the highest quote we received. But since we heard good recommendation from one of our neighbors who are all very kind to us, and since Miles from RE gave us a very good impression when he gave us a detailed quote, we decided to go for quality construction to save some headaches down the road and had our roof and gutter completely replaced by RE last fall. Afterwards, over the rainy winter months, we discovered that one part of the gutter was not slopped properly and some rain water was trapped at a corner towards our house. We discussed this with Paul (the owner) and were pleased that RE was willing to stand by their work. Paul made some small models of the gutter and came to our house to explain to us what he was going to ask the gutter contractor to do to correct the problem. Then he asked the contractor to take off part of the gutter and re-adjusted its slope accordingly. During the process, the workers forgot to patch up a hole on the wall that the gutter leans against. Paul apologized, assumed responsibility, and asked the gutter contractor to come back, take off part of the gutter, patch the hole, and put the gutter back up again. We were really impressed by this. We contracted RE Roofing to install insulation and a tile roof on our 50 year old Eichler home. They were recommended by Durafoam which we used to install a foam roof over a leaky tar and gravel roof. We have both flat and sloped roofs on our house and so we needed two contractors for the entire project. Miles from RE came out to inspect what we had and to give us a detailed quote. Since our old roof had no insulation to speak of, basically tongue and grove panels with asphalt shingles on top, we were interested in adding insulation to keep the rooms warmer in winter and cooler in the summer. RE's design included two layers of rigid insulation, moisture barriers, extensive flashing, some type of space blanket and a ventilated arrangement of tiles. Miles also dropped off several tile samples and gave us references of recent projects so we could see what the final result would look like. Our project was fairly complex as we also wanted to get some other remodeling work done at the same time. We would have a total of four contractors on site during the week of installation. We arranged for a meeting with all contractors at our home to work out a detailed "sequence of events", which turned out to be very useful as it brought clarity to everyone's time lines and expectations. We also had an email trail going to keep everyone updated on progress and status. RE was very flexible in coordinating their schedules with the other contractors including tear off of the old roof, delivery of materials and the eventual build-up of the new roof and installation of tiles. During installation, we found RE's crew to be friendly, always on time, and focused on meeting their work schedule despite the heat we had on some of the days. They even picked up some of the trash that another contractor left behind. From the time we first talked to them until everything was said and done, we felt well informed and that RE wanted to meet our expectations. Overall, we're very impressed with the quality work they did and our neighbors comment on how beautiful it looks. Our rooms are noticably cooler during hot summer days and warmer after a cool night. I have no doubt that our heating bills will be lower this winter as well. If you're considering reroofing your home, I highly recommend RE. read more

I fully recommend R.E Roofing for a new asphalt roof. I did the normal google investigations of shingle manufacturers, venting types, underlayment, ect to educate myself then got three quotes from local rates Yelp roofers. Big, medium, small. Although its difficult to compare quotes apples to apples and everyone has a different opinion on shingle manufactures, R.E Roofing was very reasonably priced and flexible. However Miles and his family's business sealed the deal with his knowledge, personality, and no B.S. He measured for the quote then returned to the house to present the quote in person the next day. They had a last minute opening so the roof was done the next week. Our house is 1100sqft. I chose the CertainTeed Landmark Pro shingles with Omni ridgevents on the house and O'hagin vents on the garage under the tree (I feel the ridgevents could get clogged with leaves and stems overtime). The old roof was off by 10am, ~80 linear ft of decking repaired over the next few hours, and the job was done the next day by 2pm. They installed all new flashing and vents then painted them to match. Miles was also kind enough to move an existing bath vent pipe in order to open up a large section of roof for later solar panels. Having completed two demo and rebuild investment properties, I can say that there is a sever lack of integrity in the trades. I met Miles Proctor on the shoulder of hwy 85 this past weekend . I intrusted a couple of teenagers to the securing of my $150 Christmas tree to the roof of my jeep. I made it approximately 1 mile before the tree once bound to my roof, resembled an acrobatic kite in flight. Pretty spectacular and strange at the same time, to witness a large tree flying through the air on the hwy through the rear view mirror. I digress, by the time I pulled over and reversed down the shoulder to retrieve my stack of kindling, Miles had pulled his truck over and towed what was left of the tree to the side. We chose RE roofing because my neighbor used them a year ago and they were okay with them. The price was reasonable, neither highest nor lowest. We thought replacing roof would be a small project compared with other house remodeling projects we had for our house. 3 days of work and it'd be outside. What could go wrong? They did a great job during the sales process. Some one came to house and did estimation. The ETA was "~3 days", which eventually turned out to be far from the truth! The project started a little over two weeks before Thanksgiving. Nothing much was done in the first few days. On the two or three days when I took off from my work or came home earlier, I saw the workers came in the mid day and left a few hours later, sometimes 2 people other times 3. As Thanksgiving was approaching, we were getting worried because we were going to host Thanksgiving dinner for a big party. The dump truck was parked in our front yard and materials were here and there. Every day we would wonder when workers would show up and finish the work. My husband had called and/or emailed the store at least twice about the delay. I texted the manager of the workers twice and asked if they planned to show up but received no response. On the Monday of Thanksgiving week, I got really annoyed and called them to at least remove the truck in our front yard and complained to the driver (Richard?) about the delay again. He was kind enough to assure me that he would pass on my message and would tell them to complete the job by Thanksgiving. The workers came on Wednesday and worked till 5pm, the evening before Thanksgiving. But since some stucco and gutter looked open where we could see metals, and a ladder was left in our backyard, we were not quite sure it was indeed finished. Nevertheless the project took more than two weeks by now. My husband took a picture of the gutter and stucco and sent in the inquiries. Miles P. said it was "a stucco stop" and said he would come to take a look. Not sure if he actually did but we were ensured in the email later that the job was completed. They were quick to collect the final payment. And.. ~$7K more was charged than the cost written on our contract! There were four items on the invoice that contributed to the extra cost. 1) "dry rot", 2) "Plywood", 3) "Stucco", 4) "Code Compliance". I could understand 1 & 4. But, Stucco alone costs ~$4,500. 47 hours of labor was charged. Over the email, my husband pointed out that the "plywood" was unnecessary as per the contract, so they took that item out of the charge. I wrote a lengthy email on how the whole project went wrong. A few days later, Paul wrote a detailed explanation on why the stucco work was needed and why it took so long. Basically they couldn't tell if the work was needed during the estimation. I don't agree. Our house is a 2-story and our old roof was clearly 20+ years old shake roof. An experienced roofer should have been able to identify the work needed. Even they missed it during estimation, some explanation should have been provided to us when we asked about the delay a few times throughout the project. We eventually paid in full, because we could only trust they know what they are doing, and we did not have time to file a dispute. I don't have time to find out the technical details so as to question their integrity, as some other review mentioned. But, like I wrote at the end of my email to them, "You guys are an experienced roofing company. We would try to believe you know what you are doing. But, the expectation, project management and the prompt communication to customer have fallen short and have resulted in most of our dissatisfaction." RE Roofing did a very professional job for us. They are a family owned business, complete with dad, mom, and two sons. Miles (one of the sons) was our primary contact - from sales through the final clean-up of the job. He is very personable and easy to work with. Miles came by daily to view progress and did a walk-through at the end to review a few follow-up tasks. RE subcontracted the demolition work to U Save Roof Removal; that team did a solid and efficient job. The RE installation field crew - the lead (Pete) and 3 roofers - were professional and hard working. (They appreciated Starbucks caramel Frappuccinos.) I highly recommend a brief showroom visit. Once I arrived at the showroom, I was confident in my decisions regarding roof material and color. It also helped me to view the O'Hagin vents that Miles was recommending for our roof ventilation. I immediately knew that was not the solution for us, because I didn't want to be viewing those big metal vents on our steep-pitched roof from my garden every weekend. So I went with the more conventional ridge and under-eave venting. (This ended up being a key decision point, as Miles seemed to favor the O'Hagin vents, and I would have followed that recommendation had I not gone in and viewed them for myself.) There was only light collateral damage to my surrounding garden throughout - from tear-down through construction. Let's face it, this is heavy and demanding work. I was worried that my trees and bushes around the house would be greatly impacted (based on a prior contractor experience). A few minor limbs were "trimmed" but everything looks great. read more
