This company is a joke! The president came to measure for an estimate on Tuesday. I didn't receive their quote by Friday, so I called their showroom on Saturday during their business hour and left a message that I need their quote ASAP since I have all other estimates in hand. He called back on Monday and said it's not ready because he was so busy previous week. He insisted that he wants to sit down and explain to me about their quote next day. I told him that he can give me the price over the phone so I can compare with others. He said "If you compare just the price, I know our price is higher than others. So I'm not going to WASTE my time to work on a quote. Good luck with whoever you're going to choose". They spend lots of money printing fancy brochures and try to convince you that they are better than others and why they are more (a few thousands?) expensive than others. If they don't want to give me an quote, why they showed up at my place first to WASTE my time? I didn't go with the lowest quote anyway. Also I contacted them early October, but they can only do my roof in next January! My roof was done before Halloween with other company. R E Roofing is very, very unprofessional. read more

We first went to the RE showroom where we met with Paul who walked us through roofing materials and gutter options. We then had several companies bid on the job. Miles took the time to explain the options available to us and when he presented the quotation it was very thorough. The roof removal crew arrived on time and did their work very quickly. The crew was polite and they left the site spotless. The roofing crew arrived the same day and started the preparations for the sheathing that was also installed very quickly. Prior to the shingles arriving the gutter installers put up the pre-painted gutters. They where hung very straight and the end seams looked good. The GAF ultra shingles arrived and the crew went to work. I had some special requests and they took care of them. The whole job took four and a half days and turned out great. Please be sure to read the postscript: The devil is in the details. But you know that. Our experience with RE Roofing started excellently--great representation, astute bidding (including satellite roof measurement), wide choice of materials, Though not the lowest bidder, we picked them as being the best qualified. The roofing job itself was executed well and promptly (Spring 2015). We are very satisfied with the roofing work itself. But . . . things happened. It gives me no pleasure to recount them. Their truck damaged plantings when backing up into our driveway (six feet wider than the truck) and left large, ugly 'rubber' marks. It's a straight driveway, at 90 degrees to the street, and easy to back into. I trimmed the plantings; they cleaned up the rubber. The work required a form from the City of Mountain View, which I had to provide. I went to the City and got it, and made a dozen extra copies for RE. No problem, really. But you would have thought that a company doing business here would have the requisite forms, no? The roof required additional plywood sub-sheathing to meet code, except in an area where we had an addition several years ago that had been sheathed to current code, but the bill did not reflect the fact that some of that extra sheathing was not needed. I called them on it and they corrected the bill. Details, details. They installed guttering differently from the original configuration, such that a lot of water was bottled up and directed into an area near the house foundations. This worried me, so I called and asked whether the 'end cap' bottleneck could be removed, and offered to pay (you, the reader, may decide whether they or I should have been responsible). I stressed that this early in the rainy season (late Oct/early Nov) it was not high priority, and was told that there would be a minimum $250 charge to fix the problem. Four weeks passed,without a call back, so I asked my next-door neighbor, an old friend, for help. He brought over a 'cast' saw (reciprocating blade, used on body casts, that cuts without harming the cast wearer). It took us about ten minutes, and neither of us is a professional in this area of work. So, on balance, RE Roofing executes roofing well but . . . the devil is in the details. Yes, it is raining as I write (mid December 2015). PS Miles from RE Roofing read this review (originally three stars), brought over two magnificent flower pots (embarrassing me rather deeply), and committed to having his gutter subcontractor finish the gutter problem professionally (my neighbor and I did not do a particularly brilliant job, though we did make it fully functional). This sort of followup is rare and deeply appreciated, and makes clear that RE cares for its customers and knows that followup is vital (those darned details . . .). Highly recommended. read more

They have been unbelievable.... around 10 years ago they re-roofed my home in LG... it took two days. They were super professional... from the crew tearing off my roof all the way until the end clean up. I never found a single nail or scrap on the ground around my house... it was completely different from our prior re- roof experience. Since then they have helped my family... my brother with a leak, another family member with a patch/flashing after an electrical panel upgrade. Now this week... they solved another contractor's mistakes with my parent's new home construction. The attic was too hot... and it turned out some of the vents had been installed incorrectly or were covered up... they spent half a day and completely solved the problem, after we'd called several other companies and they'd failed to even identify let alone correct the issue. We had a leak in the roof that we noticed during a storm. After leaving a request for a quote through Yelp, Miles responded quickly and said he could come fix it the next day! After that, there was a little miscommunication on confirming times for arrival, but he did come the next day and he was very thorough and very pleasant. He took pictures of what he saw. Not only did he fix the leak but he also secured our sky light. We didn't even know it hadn't been secured by the prior owner. And he invoiced a fair amount. RE Roofing replaced our roof about ten years ago. We have had no problems with it until a contractor took out a freestanding fireplace and did not properly patch the roof. I recommend RE Roofing without reservation. Miles' estimate wasn't the cheapest, but also not the most expensive, and his was the most detailed & reflected the most thought about issues like ventilation, downspout relocation, etc. Miles was accessible & responsive throughout the entire process. And the work was executed with the same attention to detail/quality as the estimate. I especially appreciated the ad hoc relocation of two vents for bathroom fans that, after tear-off, I realized had been routed during renovation a long way through the attic to reach an old, existing vent. My only complaint is that, afterwards, I found more small, sharp metal (nails/staples/screws, gutter trimmings, intake vent trimmings) than I hoped I'd find (esp. having small kids). We went with R E Roofing for our home re-roofing project. After 20 years, our 4,000 sq ft wood shingle roof started to have leaks and we wanted to replace it with Spanish tiles. We interviewed and collected bids from half a dozen roofing companies and decided to go with R E Roofing. From the beginning consultation, material selection, vents placement ... to the actual installation of rain gutters, roof tiles, skylights, flashings, finishing, inspection and follow through, it all went very smooth. They are not the lowest bidder but we are very happy we selected them. They clearly are the most knowledgeable and gave us lots of information when asked (couldn't help being an engineer myself). They educated me enough to spec the right roof and ask for missing items from other roofing contractors. The actual installation went a few days beyond their typical one week process. RE Roofing was competitive in price but not the lowest. I chose the company because Paul impressed me that he really understood roofing, particularly the critical ventilation issues and flashing at complex points on the roof. Also the fact that the company is family-owned and it keeps its employees working all year long suggested that the work would be professional. And it was. In fact, they went the extra mile to ensure that everything was done as well as possible and there would be no issues 10 or 15 years from now. The job site was kept clean and small issues like running the TV cable in through the flashing were handled. They even came back to remove an extra vent placed there because the installers did not know it was no longer used. They also did their own solar tube installation rather than contracting it out. I have a 36-Unit apartment building in San Jose. I needed a new roof and also knew there was some dry-rot and other repairs needed while the roof was to be done. The roofing job was about 20,000 square feet, so I knew I was in for a big expense. My concern was to find a company that had an excellent reputation and was capable of doing a large job. R E Roofing was one of 5 bidders I solicited. Although they were not the least expensive, I ultimately decided to use them because Miles Proctor was extremely knowledgeable and easy to work with. This helped me to fine-tune our job specs and, ultimately, design a superb solution to our roofing needs. I also looked at the references of the other companies that bid my job. Taking the time to actually read the reviews on YELP helped me to quickly determine which companies had happy customers and which didn't. I put a lot of weight on this. So now, the job I hired R E Roofing to do is done. It is a fantastic roof that also has excellent insulation and drainage. They took reasonable precautions to keep a safe work environment and there were no injuries to anyone on the job. When the final bill arrived, they had NOT taken advantage of this and had charged me totally reasonable amounts for the additional work they had to do. This is what I call real integrity. It has been 3 years. The roof has been great. Several inches of foam insulation plus the white reflective coating are definitely worth it! It definitely makes it feel cooler in the house and the furnace works a lot less. Also several months after the roof was installed, we had solar panels installed by another company. I have been on the other side of issuing building permits for many years. This time I am a customer and having a hard time with the City of San Jose Building Department (except for Derek). We were delayed two or three times and each time Jodie was awesome at adjusting the start of the new roof. The roofers came on Thursday morning to tear off the existing roof and came back in the afternoon to start sheathing, putting in new skylights and re-roofing. The new gutters were installed that same day. The following day the roof, skylights and vents were done and the roof looks great. I love R E Roofing. Here is why. When another contractor replaced our home wood shake roof with an asphalt shingle roof several years ago, we had a very nasty surprise. We had an indoor heat gain of 10 to 20 degrees. Summers were unbearably hot, and we finally had to install an air conditioning unit that we now have to use all summer long every year. When it came time to replace the wood shake roof on our rental triplex, we did not want to have to also install 3 air conditioning units because it would be very expensive. We interviewed all Diamond Certified roofing contractors and several other well known roofing contractors. The ONLY contractor that listened to our concerns about increasing the inside temperature when changing from wood to asphalt shingle was Miles from R E Roofing. Miles designed a very high quality roof by removing the "skip sheating" and adding high quality CDX with thermal barrier, special intake baffles, and numerous O'Hagan vents for excellent ventilation of the attic. He also took our current attic insulation up to R-40. Miles also designed a very special water proofing protection system at a complicated "hog valley" where we had gotten water leaks in the past. We liked Miles' design so we contracted with R E Roofing to replace the roof on our triplex. R E Roofing installed the roof on our triplex on time and exactly as contracted. They even replaced a section of roof gutter at no cost to us because it was slightly dented during the roofing process. We were very happy with the professionalism of the job. But we were happiest when it was over 100 degrees outside and the inside felt like it was air conditioned! We measured over a 20 degree reduction in inside temperature from the outside temperature simply due to the roof design. This winter during the winter rains, we are just as happy because that difficult "hog valley" is water tight and we have no leaks at all. R E Roofing was not the lowest bid, but they were certainly the best value. If we had to install 3 air conditioning units in our triplex, it would have been very expensive. Now, thanks to Miles at R E Roofing, we do not have to install air conditioning and we are also water tight during winter rains. read more

Back in late 2011, I needed a roof. I researched the BBB, Diamond Cert., Angie's list and YELP. I came up with RE Roofing not because of the glowing reviews, but because of the negative because A-that told me they were real and B-I could tell that the negative reviews were from petty and annoying people that haunt any contractor! I was shocked when Miles came by to give me a bid! He looked like a kid. He told me he was 26, but I don't know. Nevertheless, he was knowledgeable, polite, funny, and helpful. There was additional carpentry to be done and he was real clear that he couldn't be real clear with the price, but I understood that. I asked him if his workers are documented and he responded by saying "You be nice to our guys. They are what makes it work". I admired the fact that he put me in my place instead of giving me a stupid answer to a stupid question. He won me over right there. I signed, and the roof went on without a hitch ( they forgot to leave a ladder for the inspector. Big deal). I was happy with the price, happy with the workers and the work and happy I used them. After 6 years the roof of my house was installed with RE Roofing, there was a small leak happened to the roof recently after the multi-days of heavy rains. I contacted RE Roofing and was promptly responded. They sent out the inspector the next day and the roof was repaired on the 4th day. The roof repair service also is expected to return in the summer to do maintenance to the roof.
