I've been here too many times to count! Every campus needs a good ole fashioned college bar/grill/restaurant, and this is a perfect setup for the UofM. Inside and outside seating, plenty of tvs to watch the games, a few pool tables as well! Food is excellent, price isn't too bad, Memphis brewed beers on tap, and many other beer choices. I came here recently for the first time for a good friend's birthday brunch on a Sunday morning. I ordered chicken and waffles and a hot chocolate. The chicken and waffles were not bad, but not as good as Local's chicken and waffles. The hot chocolate tasted like they dumped a packet of Swiss Miss in hot water, if I wanted that, I could have just made it myself when I got home. We sat on the nice enclosed porch and had it pretty much all to ourselves because we were a pretty large party. The service wasn't that great though, considering they actually weren't that busy. Close by the U of M Tracks is a staple of the Highland Strip and has survived serving quality food with consistency. The bbq tofu is some of the best tofu. Nachos are amazing- and you can ask for your nachos separate so no more soggy chips. Chicken and waffles, a good burger, good chili- so a spot for all to eat, from vegan to carnivore. My friends and I have been going here for years. The drink selection is great and the food is even better. The food here is not the typical bar food. We come here often to grab lunch or dinner when we're in the area. If you stop by, I highly recommend the quesadillas, or if your looking for a snack, the bacon grilled cheese sandwich is amazing. R P Tracks was a permanent fix in my weekly diet when I was living in Memphis for 6 years. Honestly hands down has the best sweet potato fries I have ever had in my entire life. Actually, this is the very first place I ever tried it since, and have ever since been hooked! Get them, and get ranch on the side for dipping. Though it is not the healthiest option, you are literally about to endure heaven in your mouth. This is the kind of place you could consider the 'local' bar or a college bar. The crowd is always mixed, and never boring. I love their shots, drinks, food, and if you are lucky enough -- you will get a train to pass by where you get 50% off of the shots. If you enjoy sweet drinks, get the Down Home Punch as a drink instead of a shot. It is infused with all the fruity flavors, and gets the job done too if you know what I mean. Another wonderful thing would be their jerk chicken sandwich. A large portion chicken breast between two slices of sourdough bread. It comes with lettuce and tomato with the option to add cheese to it for .50 extra. Really it is fine without the cheese because the spices are good enough as it is in my opinion. This is not a spice sandwich, just simply has some good ole simple flavor. The billards are fun over in the side room next to the restaurant portion of the bar. They've got a couple of pool tables you can enjoy. They have an outdoor smoking patio as well. The windows are open during the spring - fall months or when ever you will get the random winter 70 degree day. The bar is nice to sit out where you can tall with one of the bartenders who usually have been working there for 2+ years. Everyone is friendly, and don't be surprised if you end up striking up with a customer sitting next to you in the following bar stool while the game is on. They have a couple of tvs. One being on the right nex to the bar. If it is Memphis affiliated, be guaranteed they have it on. Relax and enjoy. Just off the University of Memphis campus, the place has a nice look to it. The Chicken and Chips is excellent, it's some of the best fried chicken I've had. It's lightly breaded, the bread coating is thin but completely covers the chicken, the bread adds a light crunch but leaves plenty of chicken. The chicken is also well seasoned, and there are three strips. The chips are what most would call steak fries, these are also done well and have a nice thickness to them. read more

This was a favorite college hangout for me, and I still like to go back occasionally and grab a burger. University of Memphis students flock to this bar because it's just a short walk from campus. Here, they can eat, drink, shoot pool, hear live music and watch soccer on the big screen. What more do you need? There's even a laundry close by so you can drop off some clothes on the way. The place is certainly a lot less dingy and a lot more accommodating than when I attended college. The menu has expanded and the decor vastly improved. I kind of prefer the old dive bar from bygone days, but I must admit that this one is pretty nice. One last thing...the bar is so close to the railroad tracks (hence the name), that they used to pass out free shots to all bar patrons whenever a train rolled by. Beers are very reasonably priced, staff is friendly, and food is good! The "Lots-of-Stuff" is my favorite menu item with chicken strips, fries, mozz sticks, onion rings, and 2 dipping sauces. It is right by the train tracks (obviously in my book) so when a train goes by, of course it's noisy for a minute. In search for a brunch spot after church one day, my girlfriend and I wanted to try something new. We're basically regulars at Tracks, but more for a quick lunch or to hangout at night with our friends. It's been a crappy-ish hangout bar for years, and I've enjoyed it. However, they've gone through their own changes and seem to want to appeal to a different audience now. They've added a new outdoor patio and have renovated their old crappy and nasty smoking pit patio. Both are great. Now, back to brunch. We were kind of nervous to try it there. We ordered our typical brunch Mimosas which came back perfectly mixed and delicious. I then ordered the Steak and Swiss Omelette - something simple for my first brunch experience, and it was a delicious. Tracks isn't a popular first choice for brunch, but it's a hidden brunch gem in Memphis - at a good and affordable value. You should try it! read more

This is a great college bar that I consistently patronize. No matter what I order in food or drinks, I am always happy with it. I've met with professors for lunch here. I've hung out with friends and classmates here. I went on my first date with my boyfriend here. We've even held one of my grad school classes there! The atmosphere is always great, and the service is really great. Considering food, I've had their patty melt, burgers, fried chicken salad, mozzarella sticks, and nachos (both chicken and tofu), and I've never eaten anything here that I didn't like. Maybe one of their best kept secrets (if it's really a secret, I guess) is their weekend brunch. They have brunch on Saturday and Sunday from open till about 3 pm. They serve both mimosas and manmosas along with pancakes, omelets, and the like. You can come here if you want to socialize. You can come here if you want to sit and eat by yourself. You can come here to sit on the patio with your friends. You can come here to play billiards (though I haven't done this myself, the room looks nice). The prices are fair, and it's just really great spot for casual dining and hanging out with good food. read more

I ordered what seems to be one of the most popular dishes here--the BBQ tofu nachos. Eating these overfried cubes of tofu smothered in a mild BBQ sauce is an experience I don't wish to have again. They were hard as rocks and the "bed of chili" that it was suppose to be on turned out to be canned black beans. TOFU NACHOS. honestly, wtf right? this was the main reason i wanted to try this place. I just arrived in Memphis and was looking for a midnight snack and drink. Honestly, the tofu was a taaad bit over-fried but everything else was really good. It was BBQ flavored and you can 86 the cheese and sour cream to make it vegan. The bartender was super nice and even gave us recommendations to tour the city. Another bartender, who was off that night, was there and even started going through the Memphis Flyer to recommend more spots to hit up around the town. I got got. I so want my money back. This is ridiculous. I ordered togo but I seriously doubt it would've been any better there. These so called "Famous Nachos"? Famous for what, no nacho cheese, no flavor? They put these hard chips in a typical plastic grocery store bag if that tells you anything. Then, there's a paperboard container with the larger opening with chili that was sweet and tasted like tomato sauce. It had a negligible amount of shredded cheese on top. Then one smaller opening with mostly tomatoes and a little chopped onion. I asked for extra onion. They actually charged me 25cents for my imaginary extra onions. The menu says that there'll be nacho cheese in a separate tub, but nope! And I asked for extra nacho cheese! The best part is my receipt- $1 extra it says for "2oz of shredded cheese". What?!? How do you charge extra for that teaspoon of cheese, when there's no other cheese involved on NACHOS! If I didn't ask for that extra, there would've been no cheese at all on NACHOS! I'm a little mad because this was my cheat for the month. I was looking forward to. Needless to say, I didn't bother even assembling or eating that. We also got a chicken quesadilla. It was pitiful. During lunch today, the female manager could be overheard (in the dining room among the guests) ranting about one of her male employees for asking to take the 4th of July holiday off. She also complained that his performance was poor when he was going though a breakup. She wasn't talking to thw employee with which she had a problem; instead, she was speaking extremely negatively about this employee (who wasn't present) to a group of employees, even using profanity. I'm not sensitive to bad language, but the fact that a leader would carry on in this manner without regard for guests or the fact that she was speaking so poorly of one of her team members to a group of his peers is beyond disgusting. What a terrible place to work this must be... And I'd rather not eat in a place where employees are treated like trash. read more

I'm updating this because RP Tracks recently introduced three vegetarian sandwiches, one of which is the Vegetarian Club, which is legendary. I have probably eaten five of them so far. Tofu is the "meat" of the sandwich, and you guys, toasted coconut for the bacon! Genius! It's soooo good. Also? They returned my call after I placed my order to tell me the sandwich came on honey wheat bread (oops, since I've eaten it 5 times, but oh well), so is not truly vegan that way, and offered to replace it with focaccia. Which sounds incredible anyway! But seriously, who cares that much about whether their vegan customer get truly vegan food? In my experience, not many restaurants. I'm not a vegetarian and I hardly ever eat tofu (because it can be cooked horribly) but the BBQ Tofu nachos here won me over. I was skeptical at first but friends urged me to try them.
