Parking is tricky but free, you enter by Sufi's. The grade is steep so be careful if you have any kind of heel. Say hello to Peaches and Cream, the two cockatoos on your ascent. Now inside, it's unpretentious but there is plenty of seating. Personally, I always get a smoothie or juice here. Go-tos are the Mojo Jojo or the Frosted Champ but anything that sounds good to you is. I also tend to go the Magic Quesadilla or Magic Baked Potatoes but I also think the fish tacos are also amazing. This time I went with the penne pasta and added tofu - total banger. Bottom line, R. Thomas is a must go and it's a double recommend if you have a friend that has a gluten allergy. Very casual spot that's open from 7am-5am most days. They also have funny birds on the outside that I like to visit. I've come twice now, both times right after work (night shift) for early morning breakfast and I really like that they serve alcohol that early in the morning. A meal at R Thomas has never let me down. I've been going here since I was a little girl and have tried just about everything on their menu. I always sing their praises to anyone who will listen! Tonight we had the fish tacos - salmon, onion, broccoli, slaw, dolled up with a special sauce and guac. These tacos are seriously pilled to the top! Also had the breakfast quesadilla - which you can get them to roll up into a burrito with a side of their home fries. GREAT FOOD! We went there for breakfast. The Mrs and I split the R's Breakfast Special, and it was the perfect amount. They have some of the best home fries I have ever eaten. The grilled chicken was okay but on the dry side and it looked like they just slapped it on the grill to give it the burnt stripes. On a recent visit to ATL, we were recommended to visit this funky joint for breakfast and it couldn't have been more spot-on for both food and atmosphere. The parking is directly behind the restaurant and is shared with the place next door (as far as I could tell). There is an alley between the two that brings you to the parking lot. Before we entered the dining room, we spent at least ten minutes visiting with the collection of tropical birds, who, apparently, are super friendly and like getting head rubs. Cute and lovable, we were already enjoying our experience and hadn't even walked in the door yet! As a vegan, I'm always on the lookout for a good vegan-friendly spot. So seeing this business exploit birds for profit is honestly infuriating. These poor animals are kept in cages right next to a loud, busy road, exposed to constant noise, pollution, extreme temperatures, and the stress of endless foot traffic. It's not just cruel, it's careless. There's no way they'll live long, healthy lives in those conditions. And honestly, maybe that's the heartbreaking mercy in all of this. I've read the comments claiming these birds are "loved" and "well taken care of," and I'm calling absolute BS. If they were truly loved, they wouldn't be trapped in cages on the side of the road like decorations. They'd be living in someone's home and garden or, better yet, at a sanctuary where they could actually have a peaceful, natural life and experience nature the way they're supposed to. Stop trying to convince people who genuinely care about animals that this setup is acceptable--it's not. If you can't provide these birds with a proper home then do the right thing and find a sanctuary that can. Until then, I'll gladly drive an hour out of my way to support a place that respects animals instead of exploiting them. read more
