I only ordered a mango lassi to go, so I would like to come back and give this place a try for their food. The worker at the front was friendly and the drink came out quickly. The inside seemed to be decorated nicely and have plenty of seating. Some feedback that would really be helpful is to put the mango lassi in a to-go cup... I'm not sure why it comes out in a sealed tub like it's a bowl of soup. I saw another review criticizing the to-go container, so I think the switch to plastic cups will definitely solve this issue.

Mumbai Central has been my go-to Indian spot ever since I moved to NoVA, and for good reason! They have a bunch of vegetarian options and all the mains taste great. This place has so much value, even when you order for take out they really don't skimp out on the portions. I love their Indo Chinese as well - I highly recommend the chilli garlic noodles. As for the main dishes, I love the malai kofta! It pairs great with the garlic naan or the chili garlic naan. I've heard if you visit on Sunday for brunch they have unlimited lassi! Overall, a great Indian spot for some hearty food.

My wife, 18-year old son, and I were eager to try Mumbai Central after driving by it many times. We did not have a reservation but felt lucky to get a table on Saturday evening at 5:50pm. It was promising to see many South Asian families and repeat customers on a busy evening. Lots of pluses. First, parking is easy and free in the strip mall. Second, the interior is elegant and feels relatively new. Third, the appetizers were fantastic! The chilly garlic noodles (i.e., Indo-Chinese Hakka noodles) were superb (highly recommended) and the Mumbai Coastal Shrimp dish was quite tasty. I think ordering an appetizer is key if you're hungry (it took a while for the main entrees to arrive). Fourth, we enjoyed the lamb rogan josh, tandoori chicken, chana masala, and butter naan. But I think the appetizers were the star of the show. We ordered too much food, but had "to-go" boxes available for carry out. Can't wait to return to Mumbai Central!

Love the Interior concept! Well decorated!! Food: my take ordered the tiki masala, butter chicken, and one of the lamb entrées (I forgot the exact name). Tiki masala was very peppery in the spice was great however, the chicken was pretty dry. The better chicken was packed with tomato flavor and the chicken was actually very juicy. The lamb dish shall be got was actually the most interesting one of all. I really enjoy this flavor as it was quite different from the other two. It reminded me of more of a meat sauce flavor, and the lamb was very tender. My table also ordered them mango lassi which unfortunately was not my favorite. It was quite sweet with not enough yogurt for the tartness. This was a bummer as mango lassi is one of my favorite. Service is super friendly and nice and I found the portion to be quite large compared to other Indian restaurants around the area for the price.

We had a team dinner at Mumbai Central last week, a modern Indian restaurant with an elevated interior. The space incorporates light train-inspired details, probably a reference to Mumbai Central, one of India's major railway hubs. The service was fast and attentive, and food came out pretty quickly. KEEMA PAV This came with two dinner rolls, spiced-minced chicken, and sliced red onions, which is a popular Mumbai street food option. It reminded us a bit of American chili, but with Indian flavors and spice. It was the first time we had it, and we enjoyed it a lot. MOMO'S CHICKEN DUMPLINGS (6) Super juicy chicken momos, each containing a good amount of broth. The chicken filling was flavorful, and the skin was the perfect thickness with the slight chewiness. SPINACH +paneer This is a creamy, spinach-based curry with cubes of paneer. The color was a brown-green that was a bit unappetizing. Flavor wise was fine, nothing outstanding. It got the job done, but overall unmemorable. DAAL MAKHANI This was probably our favorite entree we got, which was a rich and hearty black lentil curry made with lots of cream and butter. We loved the combination of smooth and gritty mixed together, and overall pretty flavorful. TANDOORI CHICKEN I tried a small piece of chicken which was incredibly dry, so I didn't eat another. My coworkers were also pretty unimpressed with the texture. GARLIC NAAN This was a great option to eat the curries with if you didn't want rice. Garlic naan was good, but nothing to write home about. KEEMA KULCHA +lamb Keema kulcha is another type of flatbread stuffed with minced lamb. We wanted to try this since we've never seen it before, but it was just OK, and couldn't really pick out the spiced lamb flavors. FRESH FRUIT CUSTARD Not too sweet, creamy custard that was more like a lassi topped with apples, bananas, and pistachios. It was fine, but I personally wouldn't order it again. The appetizers were a strong start, but the rest of the meal fell short. I tried my manager's butter chicken and thought it was weirdly sweet. It's possible we didn't order their standout dishes, though it didn't leave me eager to return anytime soon.

Came here for a team dinner and tried the following: 1 Chicken Momos $9 1 Vegetable Momos $8 1 Kamal Kakdi Chaat $10 1 Chicken Chilly $10 1 Mumbai Coastal Shrimp $13 3 12oz King Fisher $18 1 Mango Lassi $5 1 Vegetable Kolhapuri $15 1 Tandoori Pomfret $17 1 Lamb Rogan Josh $24 1 Butter Chicken (way too sweet) $18 1 Tandoori roti $4 4 Garlic Naan $20 1 Kulfi Falooda $7 Overall, everything was pretty good. Most of the appetizers lean towards fusion rather than traditional. Most if not all of the hot dishes lean towards traditional. Dessert (Falooda) was def not traditional.

this is hands down the best place I've gotten Indian since moving to the DMV area. Everything is seasoned well and spicy enough to be a little, but not too, spicy. Extremely flavorful. The rosemary naan was delicious. The garlic naan was OK. both of the momos were good, but the chicken is definitely better. The Malia kofta was amazing and the paneer lababdar was the most similar to my favorite Paneer tikka masala from college that I've had since leaving. I wasn't crazy about the Chana masala, but it was still OK. The Malabari chicken was delicious. I will definitely be ordering and then from here again recommend this place about all the other others.

This was my first time here. The entire restaurant was train-themed, which was perfect and consistent throughout the entire restaurant, even the menu, bar, the bathroom, etc. They played Bollywood songs, which set the mood for enjoying the food. We came on a Wednesday for lunch, so it wasn't crowded at all. The service was excellent, as they were very attentive. We ordered the following dishes: -Chicken vindaloo (spicy): the flavors did not disappoint, the chicken was so moist -Lamb rogan josh: my first time trying this and I can see what the hype is...very flavorful dish -Paneer makhani: although I'm still not a fan of paneer in general, the flavors were amazing -Mishti doi: my first time trying this dessert, it had a yogurt consistency but very milky/creamy flavor. I think I enjoyed it. -Gajjar halwa: an OG dessert when at an Indian restaurant. There is plenty of parking, shared by other businesses. Would I return? absolutely, if I'm in the area.

AMBIANCE: Day date with my babes and he picked Indian food after going to DC and doing a photo color challenge. We both hadn't eaten anything all day and were STARVING. So coming into here was like *cue angels singing*. The theme was based after the metros stops in DC and it was decorated based on the colors of the metro!! When we realized it, it was so cool. Idk-- I feel like I don't find theme restaurants like that? The place was hugeee so plenty of seating. We came around 4pm Saturday and it was empty upon arriving but filled up quick. SERVICE: It was quick and efficient. They were around but checked on us only a couple of times (which I actually like) so that was a plus. FOOD: Honestly so good. The servings are big-- we had a big back moment because we could have honestly stopped at the appetizers with how big the portions were. Definitely had leftovers which lasted for days (mostly bc I had food at home sooo yeah). Apps were the garlic noodles and veggie dumplings. Entrees were chicken tiki Marsala and Malabari chicken. My bf got the Marsala and I preferred that over mine-- I expected more coconut. It was good, just a bit too spice rich for me. (I know it's Indian food, I knowwww). Would come again for sure!

I have my definitive go-to Indian restaurant in the Tysons / Falls Church area, but finally pivoted and dined at Mumbai Central. Overall, it's a very good restaurant with nicely crafted food and excellent service, but almost excessively so - I wish staff didn't hover around the tables so much; though I realize it's likely at the request of management. I enjoyed the vegetable momos and chicken tikka masala, as well as the cauliflower & potato dish. Note that portions are smaller compared to other nearby Indian places.

Went for dinner recently and we were very happy with the visit. The restaurant is such a vibe. It's set up like a train station with the boarding info up front and each section is a train name. Theme is carried through with the menu - very cool! Food was delicious! We got the lotus root chat and the chicken momos to start. Both dishes were flavorful and very well balanced. We got the lamb Rogan Josh and lamb Biryani to share. Again - both were good! Also got a basket of the chili garlic naan. I could have eaten multiple baskets of just the naan. Service was great - multiple people stopped by to check on us and we had a lovely conversation about the restaurant for a few minutes. We'll definitely be back for sure.

Man oh man, this place was sooooo good! 1) The ambiance was so unique--they really committed to the train/railway theme and aesthetic. 2) The service was well done. 3) The food, which is the most important part, was an 8/10. We tried a few options like chaat, paneer, carrot halwa, and the naan was great. 4) Sadly, the mango lassi seemed like it came out of a can, but not enough to detract from a 5-star rating. 5) Price-wise, it wasn't bad--they definitely priced it according to what they offer, so I can let it slide. I can't wait to go back!

There are many Indian Restaurants around DMV. Always looking to try a new restaurant. Mumbai Central is able to check all the boxes for a good restaurant. Service is good and food tastes really good. We got the Butter Chicken, Lamb Shank Nihaari and Tandoori Pomfet. They provided a good amount of rice. We also got the Garlic Naan but they are a bit small for the price. An additional half a piece added to the basket would be nice. The restaurant and menu make it feel like a train station. I thought the lighting would be too low where you need your phone's flash light but that is not the case. Overall, I feel like their menu items are reasonably priced and tasted really delicious. Would go back to try their lunch buffet.

The fish curry is a standout and absolutely worth trying, but you really can't go wrong with the classics like butter chicken, saag paneer, or any of their vegetarian options. Everything we've had has been excellent. Finish it off with a solid mango lassi, and you've got a very satisfying meal. Definitely a reliable go-to in the Falls Church neighborhood.

A concerted effort towards variety is evident, with distinct proteins and vegetarian choices in specific curries/sauces creating a beautifully balanced array of different colors. I love this. (An example of the opposite: When there's a paneer tikka masala AND a chicken tikka masala on a buffet - I don't count these as being 2 different entrées.) Saffron is way better than the musty neighbor Haandi Indian across the street. A long time local recommended Haandi over Saffron and I believe she must have lied to me about having tried Saffron, because there is absolutely no comparison. Saffron is wayyy better. There is actually flavor and attitude in the dishes at Saffron. Haandi is boring and bland. Pro tip: ask for your naan bread "crispy" and it will come out nice and toasted. Naan is included with the lunch buffet. Would be 5 stars if it were $15. $22 can get you AYCE made-to-order sushi lunch down the street, so $20 for Indian buffet lunch here seems all-the-money. Delicious, though! Oh and another possible star deduction reason: I saw a few stains on some tablecloths at Saffron that appeared to be days-old from not being changed or noticed. This is a "glass top on top of red tablecloth" kind of place. They need to get rid of the tablecloths if they're not changing them with each customer.

I found this place at the base of a mixed use development. It had garage parking nearby. My chickpeas were spicy as ordered, and came with two nicely puffed breads, and an array of pickled onions with a fried chili pepper. It was a proper rendition of the dish. Someone else ordered the same thing and asked for extra salt to dump on the chickpeas, which just baffled me. The flavor was ample. I also ordered a chai, and while they call it a cutting chai (which I understand to mean cut in half in size), it was a decent amount and a nuanced mix of spices. The owner was a little odd and was making calls to various tables and being kind of pushy such that it made one little girl uncomfortable to the point where her party complained about it, which was acknowledged by staff. Delicious Indian restaurant - great happy hour and brunch spot!…read more The happy hour from 4pm-7pm Monday-Fri is an amazing deal. I ordered 2 dishes and a cocktail for under $20! I requested for the Paneer Tikka Flatbread (not on the menu)- vegetarian version of the Chicken Paneer Tikka Flatbread. The naan pizza was delicious, it was stuffed with cubes of paneer with a side of Tikki Masala dipping sauce. Highly recommend it! You can get the Paneer Pizza next door too! The Paneer Tacos were filling and fun to try, but large chunky blocks of paneer. While I enjoyed the spicy mayo sauce, I wish the paneer was cut up into cubes. It just felt a bit heavy with the paneer. The Spinach Artichoke Fritters (4) were tasty. The Mango Mojito and the Mumbai Mule cocktail weren't that good, but it honestly it's hard to complain when it's only $6/drink. The unlimited weekend brunch at $38 is a great deal and well worth it! You can choose from over a dozen Indian fusion dishe - as a bonus mango lassi, chai, and soft drinks are included! You can order 2 dishes/person at a time and the servers hastily swing by to clear your plates and place your next order! Between the 3 of us, we ordered almost conquered the full brunch menu and had a delightful brunch feast! The food had a spicy kick, but not overpowering and wasn't greasy. The portions range from small, bite-size apps to full, large entree size. There's a lot of vegetarian dishes on the menu with a few non-veg as well. There's a good balance between traditional Indian dishes and Western fusion with a hint of American flavors/presentation. My favorite stand-outs: - Aam Chat Papri with crispy Papri pita like chips with mango, chick peas, and potatoes smothered in yogurt and chutney, and topped with spicy garam masala mix - Chana Bhatura with chick pea curry and fluffy, bubbly fried bread. Large portion. - Spinach and Artichoke Fritters - Crispy bite-size balls filled with creamy spinach artichoke dip, 4 come in an order and perfect for sharing! - Aloo Bravas - Crispy, diced potatoes very reminiscent of the Spanish Patatas Bravas with aioli sauce and mild masala spicy kick - Butter Chicken - My friend enjoyed it, solid full entree size. I didn't order or try it in, but it looked pretty tasty and could easily why she made a happy empty plate! - Nutella Bread Pakora - Tastes like a bites-size Nutella fried donut! So good we ordered another one! - Helluva Hallawa Trio - I enjoyed sampling the 3 types of Hallawa, ranging in savory (carrot) to more sweet and milky (my favorite). - Mango Lassi - The sweetness of the mango lassi helped to balance out and absorb the spiciness of the food. - Masala Chai - Great ending to a meal, perfectG caffeine pick me up! Paired well with the Nutella bread Pakora. The other dishes on the menu were fun to try, but would probably skip and save room for my faves: - Aloo Sabzi and Katchuri - The dense hollow shell katchuri (similar to a round empanada) made of dhal lentil smothered in Aloo potato curry sabzi was very filling and dense. After a couple of bites, I threw in the towel. - Egg Burgi and Paratha - The masala spicy scrambled egg on paratha flatbread was kind of bland and a very small portion. - Mango Mimosa - While the mimosas were only $4, it was quite tangy and didn't pair well with the meal. I wish fresh mango juice was used instead of mango flavored juice (tastes like Izzy). The lunch buffet (Mon - Fri 12pm - 2:30pm for $23 wasn't the best experience. Admittedly, I came to the buffet at 1:30pm and the food was tepid and sadly overcooked under the heat lamp. The plates were very small and it was hard to fit a bunch of food. I went to the buffet at least 3 or 4 times to try out the dishes in search of the perfect bite, which I sadly couldn't. There were 5 main standard dishes with 3 vegetarian dishes (Dal Makhani, Aloo Ghobi, and Mehti Paneer) and 2 non-veg featuring both chicken dishes (Butter Chicken and Chicken Curry) and a galore of fried fritters/pakoras (spinach, onion, potato) with a couple of new rotating stations with Pani Puri (not much going on) and Spinach Tikki and Fish Pakora fried fritters. The Mehti Paneer was quite greasy with a coat of grease at the top and the paneer was pretty stiff. It wasn't tender. The Dal Makhani was bland. The potato aloo potatoes were brittle as they were sitting under the heat lamp too long. The best part about the meal was the fluffy naan, which was made-to-order. I enjoyed 2 rounds! Order the Masala Dosa crispy! When we got it the 1st time on the lunch special, it was a bit rubbery and soggy. After the server asked us a few times whether we liked it, my hubby relented and told him the honest answer. The server got the dosa re-made to go extra crispy, which did the trick! The masala potatoes paired well with the dosa. I wasn't a fan of the Sambar. Based on the glowing brunch and happy hour experience, I would come back to try the lunch buffet with an early start right when it opens!

I love that their naan is thin vs the typical thick kind at restaurants and stores. The lunch special had great choices on it including biryani and butter chicken! Thanks for that! I enjoyed the masala chai tea, nice that it came with tea cookies, just wished it was a larger glass. I figured I'd like masala lemonade, and hadn't seen it on a menu before, the server cautioned me and offered a sample before I order it. sorry to say ew yuck but we tried it respectfully. I was verrryy shocked by the taste, almost tasted ritualistic it was so oddly gross. Lol Best service I've ever had at an Indian restaurant and food was delicious per usual of Indian food. One of my top 5 foods. Go, enjoy!!!

They also gave us generous portions of protein which malt places refuse to do and just load your box up with rice. The chicken pieces were big as well. The flavor of the biryani was a little different than the many different types of biryani I've tried but it wasn't bad - just different. They also have snacks from different parts of India - north east west and south. I will return to try those snacks too. For dessert, they also have the matka kulfi which is clay pot ice cream like dessert. I absolutely love kulfi and will return to also try the kulfi and other desserts and report back.

I had a really disappointing experience around 5 p.m. at Tyson Court. I came in planning to place…read moreabout a $40 order, but I ended up walking out because of how I was treated by the man working the register. From the start, he was visibly annoyed. He rolled his eyes while I was speaking, didn't want to answer simple questions about the dishes, and acted like helping me was an inconvenience. I was polite and just trying to clarify a few things before ordering. Instead of basic customer service, I was met with attitude and dismissiveness. It takes a lot for me to walk away from a $40 order -- especially when they had my favorite dishes available -- but the interaction was so rude and uncomfortable that I chose not to give them my business. Customer service matters, regardless of the order size. I hope management addresses this, because no customer should feel unwelcome for simply asking questions before placing an order.
