I've been meaning to write this review for a while now. We stumbled upon this restaurant about a month ago, and it has quickly become one of our favorite places to dine. On our first visit, they were extremely busy and we didn't have a reservation, but the staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating while we waited for a table. Megha, in particular, was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, she made us feel truly at home. She consistently checked on us, made sure everything was perfect, and provided some of the best service we've experienced. Since that first visit, we've already been back two more times -- twice for dinner and once for their Sunday brunch. Every single visit has been exceptional. The service is always outstanding, and the food never disappoints. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any dish on the menu, and their brunch is phenomenal. I do have to mention the Butter Chicken -- it's easily one of the best I've ever had. The garlic naan and rosemary naan are also incredible and such a unique touch. What makes this place even more special is the consistency and hospitality. Megha always greets us warmly, remembers us by both face and name, and genuinely makes every visit feel personal and welcoming. Mumbai Central was such a fun find in Falls Church. The restaurant is themed after Mumbai train stations, and it felt surprisingly cozy, nostalgic, and homely. The space is beautiful and feels much more upscale than the prices would suggest. I was honestly shocked by how reasonable everything was. The Bollywood music added to the atmosphere and made the whole experience feel even more fun. The restaurant was fairly busy when we visited, so I was pleasantly surprised by how fast the service was. We ordered the chili garlic noodles, ragda pattice (for the full Mumbai street food experience), date naan, and the paneer lababdar that was recommended by the staff. Every single dish was flavorful and delicious. The paneer lababdar was especially good, and the date naan was a pleasant surprise. The bathrooms were clean, parking was easy, and overall the experience was very comfortable. As for the service, the staff were perfectly polite and efficient, though not particularly warm or engaging. Nothing negative at all--just not the type of place where the staff goes out of their way to chat. That said, with food this good and a restaurant this busy, it hardly affected the experience. I was in the area, saw this place, and was craving a mango lassi. When I walked in the lady at the front was friendly and greeted me. I told her I just wanted a mango lassi to go. When she brought it out, it was in a container which kind of caught me off guard because I thought it would be in a cup. I then proceeded to ask if they had cups and she replied yes. I then asked if I could have it in a cup instead because I wanted to drink it. She brought it out and asked if I wanted her to pour it or if I'd like to do it myself. This question also threw me off a little I assumed that when she went back to get the cup that the drink would be transferred to the cup automatically. I ended up saying I'd do it myself. Other than that encounter, the ambiance of the place was nice and from looking at the menu I would like to come back here to try the food. read more

Mumbai Central gave us an excellent dining experience. We happened to be in Falls Church and came here on a whim. The food here is top notch. The mango lassi drink was very tasty. We started with the pani puri appetizer. It was flavorful with the potato filling and a slightly eggy taste. For entree, we had the chicken tandoori, malabari chicken, rice, and garlic naan. The chicken tandoori was tender and flavorful. The malabari chicken was creamy and had a wonderful coconut and curry blend. The garlic rosemary naan was fluffy and the perfect texture. The service was just as superb as the food. Danish was very attentive and ensured that we had a pleasant experience. He was patience and helps us through the menu. I only ordered a mango lassi to go, so I would like to come back and give this place a try for their food. The worker at the front was friendly and the drink came out quickly. The inside seemed to be decorated nicely and have plenty of seating. Some feedback that would really be helpful is to put the mango lassi in a to-go cup... I'm not sure why it comes out in a sealed tub like it's a bowl of soup. I saw another review criticizing the to-go container, so I think the switch to plastic cups will definitely solve this issue. read more

This place is excellent! So cute inside and busy on a weeknight. Service could be slightly lagging and they didn't always understand us. I loved the chicken momo app. These were huge dumplings and the spicy sauce with them was so yummy! I also loved the spinach with lamb and the butter chicken. Mumbai Central has been my go-to Indian spot ever since I moved to NoVA, and for good reason! They have a bunch of vegetarian options and all the mains taste great. This place has so much value, even when you order for take out they really don't skimp out on the portions. I love their Indo Chinese as well - I highly recommend the chilli garlic noodles. As for the main dishes, I love the malai kofta! It pairs great with the garlic naan or the chili garlic naan. I've heard if you visit on Sunday for brunch they have unlimited lassi! My wife, 18-year old son, and I were eager to try Mumbai Central after driving by it many times. We did not have a reservation but felt lucky to get a table on Saturday evening at 5:50pm. It was promising to see many South Asian families and repeat customers on a busy evening. Lots of pluses. First, parking is easy and free in the strip mall. Second, the interior is elegant and feels relatively new. Third, the appetizers were fantastic! The chilly garlic noodles (i.e., Indo-Chinese Hakka noodles) were superb (highly recommended) and the Mumbai Coastal Shrimp dish was quite tasty. I think ordering an appetizer is key if you're hungry (it took a while for the main entrees to arrive). Fourth, we enjoyed the lamb rogan josh, tandoori chicken, chana masala, and butter naan. Love the Interior concept! Well decorated!! Food: my take ordered the tiki masala, butter chicken, and one of the lamb entrées (I forgot the exact name). Tiki masala was very peppery in the spice was great however, the chicken was pretty dry. The better chicken was packed with tomato flavor and the chicken was actually very juicy. The lamb dish shall be got was actually the most interesting one of all. I really enjoy this flavor as it was quite different from the other two. It reminded me of more of a meat sauce flavor, and the lamb was very tender. My table also ordered them mango lassi which unfortunately was not my favorite. It was quite sweet with not enough yogurt for the tartness. This was a bummer as mango lassi is one of my favorite. We had a team dinner at Mumbai Central last week, a modern Indian restaurant with an elevated interior. The space incorporates light train-inspired details, probably a reference to Mumbai Central, one of India's major railway hubs. The service was fast and attentive, and food came out pretty quickly. KEEMA PAV This came with two dinner rolls, spiced-minced chicken, and sliced red onions, which is a popular Mumbai street food option. It reminded us a bit of American chili, but with Indian flavors and spice. It was the first time we had it, and we enjoyed it a lot. MOMO'S CHICKEN DUMPLINGS (6) Super juicy chicken momos, each containing a good amount of broth. The chicken filling was flavorful, and the skin was the perfect thickness with the slight chewiness. SPINACH +paneer This is a creamy, spinach-based curry with cubes of paneer. The color was a brown-green that was a bit unappetizing. Flavor wise was fine, nothing outstanding. It got the job done, but overall unmemorable. DAAL MAKHANI This was probably our favorite entree we got, which was a rich and hearty black lentil curry made with lots of cream and butter. We loved the combination of smooth and gritty mixed together, and overall pretty flavorful. TANDOORI CHICKEN I tried a small piece of chicken which was incredibly dry, so I didn't eat another. My coworkers were also pretty unimpressed with the texture. GARLIC NAAN This was a great option to eat the curries with if you didn't want rice. Garlic naan was good, but nothing to write home about. KEEMA KULCHA +lamb Keema kulcha is another type of flatbread stuffed with minced lamb. We wanted to try this since we've never seen it before, but it was just OK, and couldn't really pick out the spiced lamb flavors. FRESH FRUIT CUSTARD Not too sweet, creamy custard that was more like a lassi topped with apples, bananas, and pistachios. It was fine, but I personally wouldn't order it again. this is hands down the best place I've gotten Indian since moving to the DMV area. Everything is seasoned well and spicy enough to be a little, but not too, spicy. Extremely flavorful. The rosemary naan was delicious. The garlic naan was OK. both of the momos were good, but the chicken is definitely better. The Malia kofta was amazing and the paneer lababdar was the most similar to my favorite Paneer tikka masala from college that I've had since leaving. I wasn't crazy about the Chana masala, but it was still OK. The Malabari chicken was delicious. This was my first time here. The entire restaurant was train-themed, which was perfect and consistent throughout the entire restaurant, even the menu, bar, the bathroom, etc. They played Bollywood songs, which set the mood for enjoying the food. We came on a Wednesday for lunch, so it wasn't crowded at all. The service was excellent, as they were very attentive. We ordered the following dishes: -Chicken vindaloo (spicy): the flavors did not disappoint, the chicken was so moist -Lamb rogan josh: my first time trying this and I can see what the hype is...very flavorful dish -Paneer makhani: although I'm still not a fan of paneer in general, the flavors were amazing -Mishti doi: my first time trying this dessert, it had a yogurt consistency but very milky/creamy flavor. AMBIANCE: Day date with my babes and he picked Indian food after going to DC and doing a photo color challenge. We both hadn't eaten anything all day and were STARVING. So coming into here was like *cue angels singing*. The theme was based after the metros stops in DC and it was decorated based on the colors of the metro!! When we realized it, it was so cool. Idk-- I feel like I don't find theme restaurants like that? The place was hugeee so plenty of seating. We came around 4pm Saturday and it was empty upon arriving but filled up quick. SERVICE: It was quick and efficient. They were around but checked on us only a couple of times (which I actually like) so that was a plus. FOOD: Honestly so good. The servings are big-- we had a big back moment because we could have honestly stopped at the appetizers with how big the portions were. Definitely had leftovers which lasted for days (mostly bc I had food at home sooo yeah). Apps were the garlic noodles and veggie dumplings. Entrees were chicken tiki Marsala and Malabari chicken. My bf got the Marsala and I preferred that over mine-- I expected more coconut. It was good, just a bit too spice rich for me. (I know it's Indian food, I knowwww). I have my definitive go-to Indian restaurant in the Tysons / Falls Church area, but finally pivoted and dined at Mumbai Central. Overall, it's a very good restaurant with nicely crafted food and excellent service, but almost excessively so - I wish staff didn't hover around the tables so much; though I realize it's likely at the request of management. Went for dinner recently and we were very happy with the visit. The restaurant is such a vibe. It's set up like a train station with the boarding info up front and each section is a train name. Theme is carried through with the menu - very cool! Food was delicious! We got the lotus root chat and the chicken momos to start. Both dishes were flavorful and very well balanced. We got the lamb Rogan Josh and lamb Biryani to share. Again - both were good! Also got a basket of the chili garlic naan. I could have eaten multiple baskets of just the naan. There are many Indian Restaurants around DMV. Always looking to try a new restaurant. Mumbai Central is able to check all the boxes for a good restaurant. Service is good and food tastes really good. We got the Butter Chicken, Lamb Shank Nihaari and Tandoori Pomfet. They provided a good amount of rice. We also got the Garlic Naan but they are a bit small for the price. An additional half a piece added to the basket would be nice. The restaurant and menu make it feel like a train station. I thought the lighting would be too low where you need your phone's flash light but that is not the case. Overall, I feel like their menu items are reasonably priced and tasted really delicious. Ambiance is top notch with brick and wood and calm lighting. The menu is dairy and meat heavy, but vegan options are still available. They have an open kitchen and a well stocked bar. Had a fantastic moms night out at Mumbai central in falls church. Food was the real star of the evening. We sample a variety of dishes and each one stood out for its authenticity, flavor and presentation. Appetizers were generous and the main dishes followed suit. My friends and I came here for the first time to celebrate birthdays/have a ladies night, and we all emerged three hours later full and happy as can be. Mumbai Central stands out despite being in an area that has no shortage of good Indian restaurants. This restaurant is memorable for its scrumptious bites, focused on quality and harmonious flavors, and its beautiful presentations. You do eat with your eyes first, and Mumbai Central's small and big plates delight all the senses. Their dishes are a feast for the eyes and just as tasty as they look. My favorites of a very mouthwatering spread were the date-studded naan, eggplant curry (baingan bharta), lotus root salad, and Malabar chicken curry. Besides the appetizing fare, we also appreciated the warm and welcoming staff and the owner, who graciously walked us through the menu, and described his vision for a train themed restaurant and how he brought that dream to life. We could see and feel his passion for this business, and that added to the whole experience. I live in Loudoun County, where Indian food in casual and formal settings, is readily available, and I'd still make the drive here for Indian cuisine. read more

I didn't realize we would need a reservation but def get one if you can. We were seated after maybe a 5 minute wait. I really enjoyed how many options they had in their buffet. Typically you get 3 or 4 different dishes tops. Not at Mumbai! There were three separate rows of food. So many options. Usually drinks are separate too but not here. Two different lassis, tea, and don't forget the mimosas (included). Fresh naan delivered to the table. The servers were friendly and prompt! I was asked at least 3 separate times if everything was to our liking. The price is so fair for all you get. My kiddos and I had a fantastic time. Would love to come back. I don't eat Indian food very often. However, if I do, I'm coming back here. First, just the decor is awesome. It's a train station themed restaurant with walls that look like trains, the menu has a train (subway) map, the check arrives in a "Departure ticket" bi-fold. It's nicely done. Luckily they didn't get cheesy with train/travel names for dishes. Staff all looked professional with matching pressed shirts. Our server was attentive. Food was delicious. We ordered typical Americanized Indian dishes. A lamb vindaloo, spinach paneer, buttered chicken, and tandoori pomfret fish. For apps we got vegetable samosas and gobi Manchurian cauliflower. ALL of it was so good! I would probably skip the fish next time. Not because of the taste, because of the work to get the meat out of the fish. It's served whole, which I was not expecting. Still very tasty. The gobi was had a familiar taste- similar profile to a Chinese general tso - regardless tangy and delicious with just a little heat. I was concerned the heat level was going to be too much in our dishes. After all, we did order a vindaloo which is know for its heat. It was perfect. They probably told the cooks to make it American spicy. lol. How do you know it's good? There were many Indian patrons. I will 100% return when I get an Indian food craving. This is a new restaurant that opened up in this plaza where Jason's Deli used to be. The owners also own Bollywood Bistro in Great Falls and Fairfax. I finally got to try it tonight. As it's new, this place was packed on a Friday evening. They stopped taking reservations as they were not even able to accommodate the ones who had reservations. But the owners and the staff are extremely welcoming. They told us we would have to wait for 20 minutes and asked us to sit in the lounge or bar area. The bartender was the owner himself. He was really sweet and made us feel right at home. He even went and got me a snack as I was waiting at the bar. All the guests were being greeted so warmly. As we got seated, the service was very fast and prompt. We ordered the following: - Ragda Pattice: this was delicious. Loved the crispness of the tikki. - Dhokla Chaat: this was quite interesting. I've had Dhokla many times, but never in the form of a chaat. Very good. My husband got the Butter Chicken and Chilli Paratha, and loved them. There were so many things I wanted to try, but was too full. Look forward to coming back and trying other things in the menu. A really solid upscale Indian spot, we came for a late lunch on the weekend and it was pretty busy. Staff was phenomenal and we loved both the decor and the fancy plateware they used to serve. Food did take a bit to come out at times (would have loved naan earlier) but not too long and it was all fantastic. We started with the puri app and the chickpea cake app which was really tasty and both flavorful. The espresso martinis were good but on the sweeter side. For our mains we got saag paneer, chicken tikka massala, and the lamb chops. The lamb was flavorful with a great char and it wasn't one of those gamey lambs which was nice. The chicken tikka was great too but even for medium spice flavors, would have loved more kick. I know at times Indian restaurants can dumb down the heat for their guests but I actually think it would be even greater with more heat. Saag was fantastic and so were the naans. The rice was decent, probably the most boring part of the meal but the rest was fantastic. Ended with Gulab jamen which was fantastic as well, would have loved maybe 3 balls instead of 2 but overall great spot and hope to try more next time. read more

Honestly, for everything that you're getting at this buffet, I'd say it's one of the best Indian buffets that we've been to. Comes with delicious drinks, mango masala, and dessert. Been waiting for this place to open up and so happy they are here! Keep in mind, they are still working out their service kinks but the food is the star! I absolutely love the vibe and decor here, not traditional at all and is very modern and different. The chicken momos were so good here! The sauce had a nice kick and even came with chilli oil! The butter chicken is very RICH and velvety here, and it has amazing flavor. The rich has great aromatics and extremely fluffy. The Rogan Josh has nice ginger flavor and the lamb is fork tender. Seriously though, I've lived in northern VA for a little over 3 years now and I'm beyond glad we decided to try this restaurant out. Every dish is prepared with care and full of flavor. What an incredible dining experience at Mumbai Central in Falls Church, VA! My family and I had an absolutely wonderful evening, and I can't recommend this spot highly enough. We kicked things off with some fantastic appetizers: the dhokla chaat was bursting with tangy, spicy flavors, the papad was perfectly crisp, the salted lassi was refreshing and spot on, and the pani puri was a delightful explosion of taste. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious! For the main course, we went all in: warm garlic naan and chilli naan that were soft, buttery, and addictive; creamy saag paneer packed with rich spinach and perfectly spiced paneer; indulgent paneer makhni with its silky tomato gravy; and the surprising standout garlic noodles that were amazingly savory and well balanced. Every dish was executed beautifully, authentic Indian flavors with just the right heat and depth. Ok. I am spoiled when it comes to Indian food. Lived in Hong Kong where I experienced some amazing restaurants. I recently moved from Venice CA. to McLean VA. I did not find 5 star experiences in LA area. I've drive by Mumbai Central several times and always saw it was busy so tonight I gave it a try. What a surprise The food was simply terrific. I savored the layers of spice complexity. I had the vandaloo chicken spicy, eggplant, perfect garlic naan and even the rice was moist and flavorful. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes. I get the feeling Mumbai Central does not need my stamp of approval from the line I saw waiting for a table. But they get it anyway and I can't wait to come back. read more
