    Kofta Platter with roasted potatoes
    James S.

Quite good and the only things keeping me from giving them 5 stars are noted below. I've been a few times and the food has been consistently good here at Fava Pot. My co-workers were so impressed when they saw my food that they joined be today to get their Fava on. I only have a few minor quibbles. The meat is not consistently juicy, I know that they must pre-cook in order to maintain production times. However, my kofta today was a bit dry and one of my co-workers also mentioned that their chicken was a bit dry. My last order (chicken platter) was also a bit lukewarm but was not dry. Overall the flavors and freshness of the ingredients here really shine. I could eat the toum (garlic ) sauce with a spoon! I wish there were more fresh vegetable options for sides since two pieces of bread AND potatoes (or rice) really adds to the carb load. Overall, great truck with very friendly staff. Now that I have had a series of good experiences with lunch I will make an effort to try their breakfast one of these days, especially since they are one of the few trucks to offer breakfast options!

Cornish game hen with potatoes & grape leaves

Fava Pot is a great choice. I had the Cornish game hen platter, with dolamides, potatoes, pita, and salad. The game hen was tender and flavorful--very well seasoned. Dolamides were small, which was fine for the platter, and good. Pita was also good. They have a loyalty card, which is nice and the staff is super friendly and helpful.

Chicken, salad, rice and mysterious yummy sauce!
    Lauren G.

The rice was more of a mixed rice pilaf than a standard white rice. It came with perfectly seasoned and juicy boneless chicken pieces. It also came with a side salad. The sauce served on the side of the chicken was thick, lemony and delicious. I will definitely be back.

    Shish Taok "chicken kabob"
    Kayla M.

Stopped by this food truck for lunch with coworkers when it was parked near our office and was very impressed with the food! They have a decent selection of Egyptian food-- I decided to get the Shish Taok "Chicken Kabob" with potatoes which was very yummy and a decent amount of food. I ate most of it for lunch but finished it off a little later in the day as a snack lol. Overall it's good food at a reasonable price. I'll definitely be back next time I see it!

Chicken platter with way too much butter on the rice and way too many spices on the chicken and pita
    Dan G.

Was super excited to try another food truck after having just started working in the area. I had the chicken platter with rice which was way too spiced up, even spices on the pita bread too! The rice was way overbuttered and the chicken had too many spices on it. Plus, I got #80 in line and while I was okay waiting behind 10 people, when they got to #79 they called out #81, then another number and I was pretty sure one of those was the same platter I had ordered! Not sure I'd be back, food was just okay at best, I expected better!

Chicken kabob platter, no rice no pita

For now, this is a food truck. They plan to open on Lee Highway in July. I got the chicken kabob platter, no pita, no rice, extra salad. Was so excited to try this! The chicken was flavorful and well cooked, but had "parts"- it seemed like white meat with the texture (i.e. "parts") of dark meat. The garlic sauce was great. Generally, everything had a wonderful flavor. Alas, my salad was tabbouleh- yes, a type of salad, but not the grain-free greens-based salad I was expecting. My wheat-free diet was busted, but the tabbouleh was delicious! The tomato bits were Amazing. It is sad how OCD one must be in ordering to ensure there are no surprises. I would not have gotten the platter if I'd known the salad was tabbouleh. I suspect folks round these parts who go to a restaurant with this name know what tabbouli is. I don't think the menu was explicit- if it is not, it should be. Some regular green salad would make this platter a better rounded meal. If I'd have gotten it without mods, there would have been rice, potatoes, pita, hummus, and tabbouli, with no significant veggies. Carb fest!

This review is for their newly opened spot in the Safeway shopping center across the street from the cemetery in Falls Church. I've been twice to the restaurant once for lunch with a friend during their soft opening and tonight for take out. I ordered the falafel wrap and chicken kabobs and both were really, really good. Everyone is still in training mode and they're amazing. You can tell they want you to like them and you will. The place is nicely decorated and is inviting in a non pretentious way. The price for the taste and portions are amazing. I'm so glad they're here in a permanent location!

    Vegetarian Koshary
    Paige M.

I came during lunch and ordered the Koshary. I thought this dish was nice due to the mix of textures and flavors, and it made me feel cultured eating a traditional Egyptian staple. The garbanzo beans tasted fresh, not canned, and the fried onions on top were delicious. The tomato sauce has chili flakes in it and was rather spicy, but did give the dish a lot of flavor. I am not big on spicy food, and it was little too spicy for me, but if you are not sensitive to spicy food this would be a non-issue. The texture of the curly macaroni noodles against the rice and other ingredients was fun to eat. I came during before 12, which is apparently their 'happy hour,' so I got a free drink. It was unexpected and fun to have a happy hour mid-day. One critique (without knowing what is traditional to Egypt) is that I would have like to have seen more lentils. Lentils are the only thing I can see providing protein in this dish, and they were sparse. All in all, I have ordered other dishes from Fava Pot which I prefer (mixed platter, kafta). However, this dish is fun to try once, or might be a crowd pleaser to those who like dishes a little spicy and/or want to go vegetarian for a meal.

    Med. Salad w Falafel - $10

Quality on quality. Some of their dishes might not be tailored to your exact preference, and there is definitely more value in certain ingredients. After patronizing them for about a year, enjoying everything I had tasted, today I ordered the Mediterranean salad with falafel. When the order came up it looked small for $10, and compared to other salad options in the area. But the flavor profile is spectacular! Each bite is worth savoring, which makes me eat more meaningfully, which filled me up perfectly.

At that time, the establishment only had a one other table occupied so seating occurred immediately. As I perused the menu, my focus landed on the tajins / stews. The ox tail, okra lamb, and cow feet tajins all looked delectable. I settled on the cow feet tajin ($20), served with rice. That arrived after about 10 minutes, piping hot in an earthenware bowl. Just looking at the glisten and the viscosity while spooning the stew, I could tell that the cow hocks had simmered long enough to melt and release collagen into the stew. The tendons came off the bone like the proverbial hot knife through butter. The stock proved rich in texture and flavor without overwhelming the palate. Whatever additional seasonings went into it enhanced the clear stock's savoriness without imparting a different direction to the palate. This epitomized the ostensible simplicity of a dish belying sheer time and effort to perfect a dish. As an aside, this sort of laborious effort resembled long simmered Cantonese stews that I grew up with. Hilariously enough, the only other occupied table was also an Arabic guy bringing his Asian friend along. Speaking of Arabic friends, my friend ordered the king koshary ($12) and had me try a bite. The texture contrasts of the varied grains, the crispy onions, and the savory tomato-based koshary sauce, seemed irresitible. I understood why it became a signature national dish.

I can't speak on the customer service because I didn't talk to anyone. I ordered at the kiosk and they called my number and that was it. I paid $19.45 for my meal. I order a side of falafels (3) and the street bowl with beef flank, tzatziki, and mild red pepper sauce. The falafels were way too crispy. I feel like compared to other falafels I've tried these were on the hard side. Thankfully I had some tzatziki sauce to dip them in, if I didn't, they would have been a little hard to eat. The flavor was okay but the texture was not appealing. I really wanted to get beef shawarma but they were out so I opted for the beef flank. I wish I would have just gotten chicken instead. The bowl came with rice and a lettuce salad that was underneath the beef. I'm not sure if the lettuce had arugula in it as well, but the lettuce gave sort of a bitter taste which I did not care for at all. Did not taste good so I would add a lot of tzatziki sauce to it to cut down on the bitter taste. The beef was okay, nothing to rave about. I was just very underwhelmed with my food. Not sure if I would give it a try again. If so, I would definitely get something else or build my own bowl maybe. Try it for yourself and see how you like it.

The lamb rice dish had both aromatic rice and juicy, well seasoned lamb. I ended up combining the lamb pieces with the chicken rice. Out of curiosity, I tried a piece of their fried chicken. It proved juicy and not too oily. It would do well as a standalone appetizer in most restaurants. I also tried something that looked like lasagna, but without tomato. It tasted, to my uncultured palate, like a lasagna with some sort of cream or bechamel-like sauce. I quite enjoyed it. For dessert, my friend convinced me to try what I had initially passed over as oatmeal or tapioca pudding. The Omi Ali proved quite delectable, like a cross between bread pudding and oatmeal but with more nuanced spices and sweetness. I added it to my short list of desserts I enjoy, since I don't have much of a sweet tooth. Overall, I appreciated the breath and variety. Some hits and misses are to be expected at a homely, ethnic neighborhood style buffet.
