Our sweet angel poodle crossed the rainbow bridge a month shy of his 18th birthday. When my husband and I began planning our wedding, we thought our biggest challenge would be finding a religious based officiant would open to performing a same sex wedding. Little did we know that we would be able to find many same sex friendly officiants! It turned out that our biggest challenge would be finding one that would perform an Interfaith Ceremony! After hours of internet searches, we came across a website that specialized in matching couples who wanted a religious ceremony with officiants that were open to performing Interfaith weddings. We wanted to have a mainly Jewish wedding, but also be able to incorporate some of my husbands Catholic traditions into the ceremony. We received around 5-6 names of Rabbis in our area that were open to officiating our ceremony. One of the Rabbis on the list was Rabbi Klein. We set up interviews with all of the Rabbis that we were matched with through the website. All of these meetings took place over Zoom due to the pandemic. Although all of the Rabbis were open to officiating our wedding, most of them had some very hard boundaries when it came to the incorporating catholic traditions into our ceremony. This was not the case with Rabbi Klein! After a few minutes of meeting with him, we knew he was the one for us. He did have some requirements that he felt were important in order to preserve the Jewish traditions of the ceremony. However, they were extremely reasonable and he was very open to incorporating the catholic traditions that were important to my husband into our ceremony. During the 9 months between the time we met Rabbi Klein and our wedding date, he really took the time to get to know us! We met at 5 times, twice over Zoom and 3 times in person. In addition we communicated regularly through email, text and phone. But our personal favorite were our in person meetings. For each of the in person meetings, we met at a restaurant for dinner. This really allowed him to get to know us and us him. In fact, we will really miss those dinners! He did such amazing job when he officiated our ceremony! His calm and friendly demeanor made everyone feel comfortable and included. he took the time to briefly explain each of the Jewish traditions, which made all of our guests feel feel included in the ceremony! In addition, his guitar playing added an extra warmth to the ceremony. We received so many compliments about Rabbi Klein from our guests!
