My love and I were exploring the Forest Glen area on a lazy Saturday to check out a neighborhood rummage sale, and we were getting hungry. We had been to Rabbits Bar and Grill (located on Foster near Elston) before with friends, and we were looking to revisit for lunch and a beer. We arrived around 1:30 PM to a practically deserted place, though a trickle of peeps eventually found their way there. Rabbits has an outdoor patio and indoor tables, but we chose to belly up to the bar. The woman behind the bar was a one-woman-band during our visit, serving our drinks and ice water, and taking care of our food orders. Our food took a few minutes to prepare on the grill, but it was worth the wait. I ordered the Texas Burger and it was enormous, messy and satisfying with bacon, cheese, grilled onion, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and BBQ sauce. The burger comes with fries or tots, and I went with tots that were perfectly crunchy. Many items on the menu come with fries or tots, or you can get either side for a measly $1 upcharge if you order a beef sandwich. Overall, the pricing of the food seems very reasonable, as the most expensive item is the Texas Burger ($10.45). My love enjoyed her mini fish sandwiches, an order of two cod sliders and a side of fries. Previously I have enjoyed the Joe's beef and onion, which is sort of like a Philly cheesesteak with grilled onions, sweet peppers and cheese on garlic bread. They have an extensive beer list with interesting craft beers. I tried The Claddagh Irish Stout by Phase Three Brewing, and if you are into trying a beer you've never heard of before, you might just be in luck here at Rabbits. read more

I used to frequent Rabbits but it is so understaffed. They have two sizable rooms and there was often one server who also served as the fry cook. During the evening of a big game the main room was crowded, but the TV in the other room was turned off. It is high up and a ladder is needed. When I asked if it could be turned on I received a nasty response. She told me she was too busy. And she was, but could she have said it nicely? Knowing there would be a game that evening, could she have had some foresight and turned it on earlier in the afternoon? Could she have at least given me a positive sympathetic look or apology? Could her boss by a remote control? And speaking of the boss, I never met him. But I see quite a few reviews here saying he and his wife are racist. I don't doubt that. The guy has a memorial to Guantanamo Bay, where Muslim men were captured without evidence and without a fair trial and waterboarded and tortured in myriad other ways. The food, the drinks, the prices, the atmosphere are all fine, but I go to a dive bar to be around humanity, but to proudly display a memorial to a stain on American history, there are plenty other dive bars around. Go to the Cabin, or the shock Shop, or Paddy Macs or plenty of dive bars closer. Don't taint your evening by stuffing the pockets of a Trumper. read more

Been here many times and if you like local dive bars this is your place. Friendly staff and good food. Just understand that your bartender also makes your food most of the time so food takes awhile. Beer list can be confusing as it rotates faster than you can read them but focus on the bottom for the type of beer you want then look for the right color. Trivia on Tuesday at 7:30, very relaxed. If you win,$20 off your tab, but no cost to play,so why not!?! Also $2 hot dogs and PBR on Tuesday. I have to give a shout out to Rabbits. You know this pandemic has been tough but I love that my favorite cozy neighborhood bar has risen to the occasion! They have really good food and a nice variety of beer but I love that they are so Covid smart! First, their warm outdoor dining is great! And warm outdoor dining is hard to find these days but the heater that they hooked up is literally the most impressive I have ever seen! It's huge! Also they demand masks upon entrance and this leaves for a very safe and warm Chicago outdoor dining experience. In short, their pivot has been impressive and they even have managed to make their warm Chicago outdoor bar and dining cozy! I've gotten to know the owners Joe and Mary and they are just nice and good people as well. Joe is quick with a joke and Mary is just warm to the folks she talks to. In short, going there feels like a slice of home and these people are the epitome of small business owners you want to support. I highly recommend heading over. The owner is definitely a jerk. He was very unfreindly and rude- came off as racist and homophobic. The bar itself seems decent in terms of its drinks and food but service is very important to me. If any member of the staff (especially the owner) make you feel unwelcome or disrespected, it doesn't matter how good their product is- the experience will be negative. I will NEVER return to this establishment and I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Great hideout on the NW Side! It's pretty divey on the inside complete with silver "barchairs". You know like kinda modern looking yet old silver pleather stools/ chairs? They have an awesome selection of brews, definitely some stuff you won't see anywhere else around town & very fair prices. Small grill in the corner & the bartender does all the cooking. I only gave this bar one star, because of the beer selection and the female bartender/cook. She is always friendly, in a not chat your ear off type of way. Food is better than descent. The place definitely lacks "ambiance". But I feel what completely ruins it is the owner. I've never met someone so arrogant & full of themselves, nor such a rude owner. I'd expect an owner to be friendly, and want to make you feel welcomed, this guy does the opposite. Good food, good beer, decent ambiance - but it's a dive bar, so don't expect a ton. My boyfriend says they pour an excellent Guinness (see Andrew H.'s review), and they had my favorite Stiegl grapefruit radler, so I was really happy! The drinks are also a great price. We also ordered food and a few drinks. I was mostly pleased with my order - I had a burger with onion rings, and everything was delicious...except for the patty. Maybe it was just the shape of it, but it didn't taste super fresh. The burger also fell apart a little as I ate it, but the onion rings were the best I've ever had. The neighborhood this bar is located in is most certainly not Sauganash. It is Forest Glen. I have no idea where Yelp gets the neighborhood information from, but they are wrong way too often. Anyways, this bar is a decent "dive" (as some people may call it), although I just look at it as a regular "old school" Chicago bar. The million dollar rehabbed theme bars have ruined the bar scene in this city. This place needs to live on. read more

Not only is it good craft beer, it is well-priced craft beer. It's a nice enough place to kill time waiting for a bus, or to kick back after work. It was important to lead off with that very particular feedback because of how many places don't seem to actually know how to do this in a city with a prevalent Irish heritage. The fact that these delicious pints are only $5 is even more reason to have more than one. This is a regular Monday night place for myself and a few friends after teaching bagpipes and drums at the Irish American Heritage Center a couple blocks away. My husband and I brought our friend from out of town here tonight as a recommendation that it was a great northwest side Chicago bar..we wanted to have a few drinks and a nice time. Our friend was very wrong. We had a bartender who was extremely rude from the start named Anne ..then her friend who was not working there but who was verbally abusive to me. She literally pounded on the bathroom door when I was in there and HARRASSED me when I ordered a tequila drink called a paloma saying" do you know where you are you idiot ordering a drink like that " etc..and she went on for awhile that another patron said "I'm sorry you had to deal with that" But the bartender who was clearly her friend continued on after we ordered food etc. Being just as rude. We ordered food, played music and pool and left As this was not what I think of when I think of the northwest side of the city. I will not be back here. Look up "dive bar" and Webster's will have a pic of Rabbits. Walking through the door, A drunk guy named Chuck loudly welcomed us in. I ordered a long island which was pretty much enough to get me drunk. A guy comes in selling hats making Rabbits a one stop shop. I had a great time watching the NCAA tournament and socializing with the patrons. Its a friendly atmosphere with inexpensive drinks. I'll definitely return. read more
