At the end of June, we were traveling to the Northeast and we pulled out our Thule and it practically just fell apart. That was on a Sunday and Racks for the Road is closed on Monday and we were leaving 5 am Tuesday. We have used Racks several times so I messaged Ryan (the owner) at 10 pm Sunday and really just asking advice and he offered to meet me at the shop on Monday morning, his day off. We went thru the options, buy a whole new one and borrow one of his and buy what we really wanted when we got back. He wanted to look at it a little closer, ended up being able to fix it and it worked great! No new Thule necessary! We bought bikes (like everyone else) during the pandemic and needed a high quality bike rack. We did a ton of research and decided on a specific rack. We could have ordered it on line and paid shipping and put it together ourselves (I do not recommend that!), but we wanted to see and touch the rack we had selected before committing. We found RFTR and visited with the owner, Ryan. He showed us the model we wanted, we discussed options, and he showed us other cheaper models as well. I was impressed that he didn't try to up sell us or just immediately sell us the top of the line model we came in for. Ryan is very customer service focused. He answered all of our questions and gave us hands on instruction on how to place the rack on my Subaru. I even took my bike in and he showed us how to properly load and unload it. I really did not know what I wanted or needed so we went over the options and how I wanted to use the roof rack for my Grand Cherokee. I wanted a cargo box and roof rack for our Honda Pilot for summer road trips. First I called REI, but they were sold out and didn't seem very interested in helping me find what I needed. The person on the phone didn't seem all that knowledgeable about roof racks and it seemed like she was just reading off a website. I found Racks for the Road online and left a message. Ryan, the owner, called me back within an hour. He said he had what I needed in stock, which is increasingly rare these days. I drove up to his shop in Tomball the next morning, and sure enough, he had what I needed. I explained to him our family's needs and he recommended several options, each with their pros and cons. Our Pilot needed clips that he didn't have in stock, but he was able to get them in a week or so. I ended up buying a bike rack for the Pilot's hitch as well. Once Ryan received the clips, he installed the roof rack, cargo box and bike rack within an hour and a half. We are very happy with our purchase. Ryan is a super nice and knowledgeable guy. You can tell he's passionate about outdoor adventures and helping people get outdoors and have fun. If you are shopping for Thule or Yakima equipment, don't bother shopping around and for heaven's sake, DON'T buy this stuff online. All the dealers sell this stuff for the MSRP, so it's the same price everywhere, but you won't get the same service or knowledge everywhere.
