I went in the salon as a platinum blonde with few low lights. I showed Catherine pictures of myself from a few years ago. I wanted more low lights and a subtle bob cut. I booked it as exactly that, confirmed it again at check-in, and when asked to come back for a wash, said no -- my hair was already clean and ready for "dry styling". I asked for a smooth, corporate look and shared usually it was done with a round-brush technique. The blowout and straightening were great. At checkout, I was charged full wash-and-blowout price. Why? "A hair dryer was used" -- not my job to determine your tools. The receptionist then glanced at the clock and told me dry styling is a "20-minute service," though it's listed as 30 minutes on their website. My receipt shows I was well under even that, despite the extended conversation it took to justify charging me for a 45-minute wash-and-dry I never received. Nobody flagged an issue with my request before, during, or after the service -- only at checkout. I tipped my stylist because her work was excellent; this isn't on her. If you book "dry styling" here, get the price in writing first. They lost a repeat customer over a $20 difference. Honestly, the invented "20-minute" line is what really did it -- that's what gave me the ick.

During the wash, she even put conditioner on my scalp and rubbed it in which I've never had done before and didn't feel right at all. The biggest issue though was the styling. I kept asking for volume the entire time, and my hair still came out super flat. Like completely flat, no body at all which is the opposite of what I asked for. I had a really important event to go to right after, so this was honestly disappointing. I trusted that I was going to leave with my hair done properly, and instead it looked like something I could've done myself at home. On top of that, the pricing did not match the results at all and for the quality I received, it just wasn't worth it. She did not ask any questions about my hair or explain what products she was using or what she was doing. After my hair was washed and conditioned, another stylist took over for the silk press. She was the same woman who had welcomed me at the front desk, and I was relieved because she actually spoke to me and asked a few questions about my hair. She began preparing my hair for the blow-dry, and I felt very comfortable with how she was handling it. Unfortunately, the original stylist came over and asked to take my hair back because she did not want to work on another customer's hair. I overheard that it may have been because the other customer's hair was too thick. In retrospect, that was my sign to ask to remain with the second stylist, but I decided to give the original stylist the benefit of the doubt. I noticed that the products she used were different from those the previous stylist had applied to the back section of my hair. I mentioned that the other stylist had used three or four products, which made me feel more comfortable because I was concerned about heat damage. She responded dismissively, saying, "I have my own products." It did not feel as though enough product had been applied, although I cannot be certain because I could not see exactly what she was doing. I explained that I was not trying to be difficult. I had recently taken down my locs, my hair was fragile, and I was worried about breakage and heat damage. She said okay and continued. She then attempted to dry about a quarter of my hair at once using a fine round brush instead of dividing it into smaller sections first. I grimaced, and she stopped, switched to a blow-dryer brush, and began working in smaller sections. I will acknowledge that she tried to be gentler after seeing my reaction. Unfortunately, the silk press and trim were very underwhelming. By the time I arrived home after a short 30-minute drive, my hair had already reverted. I had not been to a traditional salon in more than 15 years, aside from visiting locticians, so this experience was especially disappointing.
