She is thorough and has a nice personality and she's been doing hair for more than 20 yrs! I have natural curly hair that has thinned a bit with age. I like to have a style that I can blow out or wear curly. Thomas Patriss gave me the perfect cut. I also have noticed that the color Thomas uses on my hair lasts one to two weeks longer that other color products I have received from other salons. Consider this a warning to everyone considering RANDY SWAN. Choosing him to cut my hair was the biggest hair-related mistake of my life. I needed a haircut because I had a SPECIAL EVENT to attend later that day. I thought that I'd receive a semi-decent haircut and style. It is, after all, Del Mar. It was excruciatingly expensive. And, how difficult could it be? All I asked for was a simple haircut - based on provided photos of MYSELF. Yes, that's right, I provided photos of my prior haircuts. I asked for my hair to be cut in a similar fashion. That is to say, approximately shoulder length, using the natural waves. I use "style" loosely because I wasn't asking for anything special post-haircut...I just wanted my hair to turn out how it does NATURALLY! Wavy, not "spirals" or "Curls" or "frizz". Just the "waves" that come naturally in my hair. I specified that I don't ever use a blow dryer, flat iron, or curling iron, and that I prefer it as natural as possible. Despite the VERY specific instructions...with many detailed photos from different angles...I ended up with something wildly different. I walked in with silky smooth hair that had a slight-medium wave. Randy kept telling me that he can "absolutely do what I'm asking" and would have "no problem cutting my hair to that length", to "just trust him" and "of course he's on the same page" and "stop worrying, just close your eyes and when you open them you'll look amazing". He spun me around so I couldn't watch in the mirror. What a load of BS. When I looked up, I was absolutely shocked - I looked like I was straight out of the 1980's - permed, PURPOSELY FRIZZY and voluminous. Practically a lion's mane. This was 100% the opposite of what I requested. He asked me if I liked it. I said "uh, no, well, it's not what I asked for...I'm pretty uncomfortable" and he essentially tried to push me out the door, spouting platitudes like "it looks great, it's very trendy now" and "sometimes it just takes a little time to get used to something new", so on and so forth. I've never had anyone f-up a haircut and like I said, I was so shocked that when I tried to protest my "haircut", I wasn't initially as vocal as I should have been. I basically let him push me out the door with his "it'll grow on you", "it's what all the girls want now" bullsh*t. I actually got 2 blocks away before deciding it was absolutely RIDICULOUS. People were staring at me, I felt so incredibly self conscious, and I was dying of embarrassment. I turned around, walked back in and asked him to fix my hair. I explained that when I had shown him the photos of how I wanted my hair, that is REALLY how I wanted my hair. I explained that my hair was now extremely frizzy and fluffy and that's not how I wanted it at all. He told me something like "oh, well I'm so sorry, glad that we can have an open line of communication because it's a two way street" and he promised to fix it. I was apologizing for the inconvenience and for making him redo the work (in retrospect, I don't know why I felt bad, he messed it up). He swore up and down that he would fix it and make it just like it was in the photos. I thought "it's going to be ok, he's going to fix it". I sat back, he rinsed my hair out, cut it a bit-less 80's-ish, started re-styling it, and I anticipated walking out...well, like I looked in my previous photos. But no. He changed my hair from "superfrizz/perm" to "curling strands in sets of 10". While it didn't look quite so much like a perm, it still wasn't ANYTHING like the photos. And at that point, I was out of time...I had to go. I left, looking absolutely ridiculous, still. I did NOT get the haircut that I asked for. I did NOT have it fixed. I did NOT have it styled in the very simple way I had requested. I showed up at a family event that required a ton of photos, and was incredibly embarrassed by how I looked. Finally, he had the gall to act like I had terribly inconvenienced him by asking him to fix my hair, that I had spent so much of his valuable time, etc. He said something when I was leaving like "well I hope you're happy now that I spent the entire afternoon". Geez, I'm sorry that you decided to take a 45 minute (max) haircut and turn it into an all afternoon marathon. He acted pissed off when I was leaving. I was shocked at the haircut I received, I was shocked at the styling I received, I was shocked at the alleged "fix", and I was shocked at how he treated me throughout the process. Overall, I can't have been more disappointed or upset with my experience. Please, please, please take this warning and GO ELSEWHERE. As an aside, it seems that "Randy Swan" may be an independent "stylist" within this hair studio. That is not how it is presented on the website. I didn't find out about it until I was walking out, and he handed me a card. The card had his info and not the salon's info. Not that this is a make or break situation....just inter read more

I can't speak to quality of hair services here (I wish I could) but I can warn to read the fine print on the groupon. While the Groupon may be $90, they upcharge for length, toner, and other things. $40 for 5 inches past shoulder length, plus $35 for toner. You'll end up paying $165 for the full balayage only, which is not much of a deal in my opinion. And that's what this is, my opinion. I've bought groupons before and been okay with testing a new stylist because of the discount but never ran into this before, so I'm warning those who might be checking yelp as I did before purchasing. Be prepared that the price you pay will not be all you pay even if you have straight shoulder length hair you'll still pay the extra $35 for toner. I also had emailed the salon before purchasing the groupon and was informed balayage on average range from $120 to $140. You can imagine I was glad when I found the groupon thinking I found a great deal so I'm not sure how they arrived at $165 for balayage once I sat down in the salon. Perhaps it's a better idea to not purchase the groupon and just go directly through them for a better price. It's a bit of a bummer because I usually do come back at least once more if I like a stylist and am okay with paying full price. read more

I first found Radici Hair Studio on Yelp (obviously), and due to the multiple great reviews I decided to give them a call. My phone call was immediately answered and the person I spoke to was very friendly and helpful over the phone. When I asked if there were any deals currently available, she replied honestly and stated she would honor the current groupon price for me. She was able to schedule a hair appointment for me the following day - yay instant gratification! Radici is located near the Del Mar Racetrack in the same center that The Curious Fork used to be. You can see the studio from the street and I was able to score a parking spot in the row of spaces right in front of the studio. I arrived about fifteen minutes early to my appointment and was immediately greeted and offered a beverage/snack by one of the other hair stylists. While waiting for my appointment with Jenny, I counted three other employees who greeted me and offered me a beverage/snack. Everyone here seemed very attentive and friendly! I was nervous to have my hair colored by someone other than my usual hair stylist, however Jenny made the entire process less nerve-wracking. She was nice, friendly, and pleasant to chat with. Right from the start she asked me what I was looking to do with my hair. I just wanted to get rid of the blonde balayage and have a full-mocha brown color for this fall season. She double-checked what I wanted by showing me colors of certain hair swatches. I was comfortable the entire time and didn't feel the constant need to make small talk. He said "you just booked this yesterday for a blow dry." No we booked a month ago and was very specific what we wanted. I have gone a lot of different ways with my hair over the years. I have gone to the top stylists in LA for years. The most I have ever loved my hair was when Karmella has done it. She is WONDERFUL with color and cut which is very tough to find. She lifted my hair from an almost black color and made it auburn with gorgeous blonde highlights. By chance, my afternoon opened up, and when I couldn't get in with my regular salon, I happened into Lauri's chair, and what a fabulous meeting it ended up to be! I had never met Lauri before, but she is kind, warm, and easygoing. All those things are great, but when all is said and done, you really want someone who knows their way around some bleach and scissors, right? And Lauri does. By my own admission, I know nothing about hair color, cuts, or maintenance. I gave Lauri very little to go by other than, I wanted my balayage touched up, blonder, and for the love of God, do something with my ultra-thick, long, messy mane. She took her time, carefully painted highlights, spruced up my cut with some layers, and even gave me a gorgeous style to go home with. She really takes pride in her work and it shows. So today I called for an appointment and fortunately I got an appointment at 2:30 with Laurie which was awesome that I got an appointment that quick. I drove from vista to give this place a shot that I found on Groupon. I talked to the receptionist on the phone and had told him I have just done a color remover and got my hair to a light brown, which used to be black.. and would love to get all over highlights done can you guys fit me in today? (which highlights absolutely can be done and I have done in the past) and we used Wella products, so he said okay you can talk to the stylist about that. My sister normally does my hair professionally and has never used boxed colors because she goes to Armstrong to get all of her hair supplies for me, she's a well educated Cosmetologist... but I decided to go to a salon because my sister is out of town and I want my hair done before my vacation I'm going on this weekend ... Anyways I proceed to lauries chair and I tell her all that I've told the receptionist and obviously my hair is not perfect I just did a color remover.. ( listen I know I'm not going to be blonde in one day but all I wanted was highlights) she goes on and on telling me all that I know.. she tells me "there is a lot going on with my hair" and you have just used boxed colors and how damaged my hair is (which is really isn't) and she can only proceed to do partial high lights around the top of my head and how much more full highlights would be... but if she could do partial high lights why can't you do full highlights as I made an appointment for my hair really is not that long!!! she said about $230 for what I wanted, I also had a Groupon .. which I was fine with paying for because I drove all the way to the salon to get that done! Like I told the receptionist I wanted full highlights and I just did a color remover... well Laurie is just telling me she doesn't have enough time for me to do that. So why would I make an appointment for that? And my hair is not long but it's not shoulder length either. But I felt completely embarrassed, very upset, in the end I am very glad she didn't touch my hair because I didn't like the way she treated me as a customer or the way she talked to me so I will gladly take my business somewhere else! read more

Lauri was my stylist and she probably asked the most questions of any stylist I've been to to really understand what I wanted. I had an appointment with Karmella three weeks ago and was highly disappointed. I was immediately greeted when I walked in despite the man being on the phone. I was directed to the waiting area, where they offered refreshments and snacks. I waited about 20 minutes because the hairstylist was late. When she arrived, she sat we down and began our minute consultation. I showed her a picture of the color I desired. She began complaining about the amount of hair I have even though I paid $40 extra because of my hair density. She also appeared to be annoyed/frustrated. After everything was finished she blow dried my hair( and complained about it once again) and she showed me the final color. The lighting at the salon is not very good. It appeared to be fine. I thanked her and gave her a $30 tip and was on my way. I then saw my new hair color in a well lit place and realized it was not at all what I had asked her. It was blonde when I specifically said light brown-brown color. Furthermore, it was three different colors! (photo attached) I called and was spoken in an odd tone after I mentioned my concerns. Fortunately, I was able to be seen the same day. I walked in and was greeted with an eye roll. I was seated and she proceeded to check my hair. She agreed that the lighting was not very good and kept me in the chair. I showed her the same picture of the color I wanted and she began to "fix" it. I was taken to the hair washing station and was left there for a while. During that time she went to speak to her co-workers and began complaining and saying that she should charge me because she had done nothing wrong. She also complained about my hair once again! I don't know if they are not aware that the door was not closed or that their walls are thin because I heard every word they said about me. I waited three weeks to write the review to see how the color turned out. Unfortunately, I am still very disappointed, it is not what I had asked for and it is still different shades. I was planning on returning to have a Keratin Treatment done, but after the lack of basic customer service skills, I will not be back.
