First great-looking restaurant. And then the food came. I lived in San Diego for almost 20 years. I have very high expectations of a taco. With that in mind, I have expectations for tacos. They should be moist and bursting with flavor. What I got was a very high-priced taco that was beyond dry and had no flavor--literally had better tacos at Taco Bell, which I think of as a hamburger helper meal of restaurants. So sad since they went out of their way to make a nice restaurant. Think I will have to make my own. Look up Taco El Gordos in San Diego and compare what we should be getting to what they are serving. This restaurant will be a hard pass for me. read more

From South San Diego, border town San Yisdro and Libertad, Tijuana. I gave this a full five due to the vibe by being welcome and hearing Spanish in Anchorage was a heart welcoming. Food was not like my nana's BUT delicious even to remind me of home. The tacos de tripa, I felt a tear run down my cheek knowing I have a place I can return and will remind me of home. The tacos were delicious -- my wife had the seafood trio while I enjoyed a brisket and a pork belly. Service was friendly and prompt. Overall we enjoyed it here and while I haven't eaten too much Mexican in Anchorage, I'd say this is pretty damned good Mexican food wherever you are. read more

Ambiance 5/5 great little place we hung out with friends for hours eating and drinking, such a fun atmosphere, Service 4.5/5 (counter service, but everyone was friendly), food 3.75/5 the flavor was great, the meat on the carne asada was a bit dry, pastor was delish, the tacos were small but full of meat. Prices 2/5! This is where they loose me, yes the food is good but in no way can they justify charging $7-$10 for ONE taco! They do now offer a 3 pack of their meat tacos for $18.50 with no sides not even salsa, everything is extra, actually they give you a few chips on the side but again no salsa. The burritos are probably the best bang for your buck at $18 because they will fill you up, but still overpriced by $2-4. Be prepared to drop some money if you want to leave with a full stomach. We will likely be back to try other things and enjoys the atmosphere, but not frequently. read more

First off, excellent food. Dare I say best tacos in Anchorage? Also, super cool decor and fun outdoor seating. The art is amazing. We had the 3 taco combo w/ al pastor and carne asada, rice and beans and a side of pickled veggies. All were delicious. That being said, I'm afraid they have priced themselves out of anyone making this a regular lunch or dinner spot. Food quality is excellent, but charging 18.00 for three tacos 2.00 for salsa, 4.00 a small cup of pickled veggies...?? We ended up splitting the order between us due to cost. Ambiance great!!! Love the decor! Service was friendly and fast. Food...a bit of a let down. We ordered Al pastor, carne asada, tripa, and suadero tacos. Presentation was clean and delicious looking. It smelled amazing, but the meat was extremely dry and everything tasted the same. The only difference were the topping (ie salsas). This Saturday we tried Rafelitos and were not dissappointed. We had a couple of Carne Asada, a Suadero, and an Al Pastor taco. All were excellent, but the Pastor was the best. We also had a horchata and some pickeled veggies, which were exceptional. Sweet, but not overly so. We ate in. The staff were friendly and the food came in a reasonably amount of time, despite their being a pretty full house. A nice is the great art, with one of the cooks being the artist! Some other reviewers have complained about the pricing, but the horchata and burritos here are on par with Xalos, and yes the tacos are more expensive, they are much better. read more

Was very exited to try out a new taco place in Anchorage...was very disappointed. Overpriced. My partner and I ordered the asada tacos. The meat tasted spoiled, had no flavor and were drenched in a sauce that wasn't very good either. I think the decor is the only thing this place has going for it right now. I understand this is a new restaurant, so maybe they are able to make things better. That's the hope anyways because we need more taco joints in town. read more

Ambience was calm and relaxed...flannel welcome here. Asked for a glass of water, given happily and shown an easy refill station for water bottles. Surprisingly unheard of in Anchorage...typically anchorage restaurants want to sell you a bottle of water. Food, tacos: carne asada was top round steak-quality meat no Gristle (sp?) high quality meat, pork taco was Wonderfully seasoned (I'll be back for 3 of these) frickin fantastic... Chicken taco was good quality chicken. Medium sauce and green sauce high quality...corn taco shells were home made and awesome... weird thing afterwards was my stomach was happy and digested everything with contentment. Totally unheard of with me and Mexican food. They had a good beer selection. Their location is tough to find buried behind diamond Costco...worth the trip... the meat was grilled fresh so it took extra time to prepare food. Don't be in a hurry here. Worth the wait finally all the ingredients meat vegetables corn taco fresh and made with care...I can't find this quality anymore in Anchorage. A bit spendy at $18.50 ... but 3 golden master piece tacos with a lot of meat. (Thanks inflation) the owner said their Cherizo was homemade...I will try next time. With 2 pork's. The weren't busy at lunchtime. So if you want somewhere peaceful with high quality food and you have extra time go here. Definitely worth the money. Taco King Carne gasada was all gristle last time. Broke my heart effin inflation. Summary for authentic quality food this may be the last place in the city....for Mexican food which doesn't truly fit...these are yummy street tacos in a peaceful place to eat wearing work clothes and draft high quality beer. Wish I still drank but I wasn't price gouged for water. Cash savings : water and tables without waiter so small tip at cash register when ordering, that's it. Owner said something about their brisket that made him sound like a Michelin chef...going to have to try. He was very easy going and personable. He commented about breakfast food available until 2:00 pm. He seemed to press abit about call ahead for pick up. I've been in Anchorage three days and went to Rafelito's twice already! I'm from San Diego, so have a pretty high bar for fish tacos, and the shrimp taco here is 11/10! So flavorful and the mixture of salsas with the salsa macha is a great combo. The halibut and salmon were also tasty, but shrimp taco stole the show for me. read more

Odd location behind Costco on Dimond. Saw an order of tacos go out and for what you get the tacos at $7 a piece are way overpriced. I went with the carne asada burrito for $14.99. Overall the flavor was good but the meat was kind of dry and had a fair amount of gristle. Probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back here for $5 horchata and $9 chips and salsa. read more

Being from Texas, Mexican food is a hard sell here in Alaska. That being said, we thought the food here was delicious! The verde salsa is INCREDIBLE, shoot it into my veins. The tacos were delicious, however ringing in at $7.50 for single street taco is outrageous, even in this inflated economy. $6 a piece for full sized tacos and I would eat here once a week or more. Priced as is, I will save this place for the splurge occasion only. To warrant a $7.50 taco, they ought to be full size tortillas, not street tacos. Use larger tortillas and keep the meat portion the same for $7.50, or use less meat and charge less for a street taco. read more

Soooo good. First time eating here and it was excellent from the service to the food!! Made very high quality.

I have to say I really did enjoy the food and the space. It is a breath of fresh air here in anchorage to have some hand made authentic Mexican food. The food was solid and I loved every bite. Two things that I would suggest for consideration: 1) the prices, they seem to me a little on the high side. Maybe they are trying to see what the demand would be for something like this? With the ambiance, I wouldn't be opposed to pay a heftier price for a fine dining experience focused around Hispanic culture. However, I will say the price was very dissuading for me for what it is, a higher end fast bar food choice. 2) The fence in the parking lot of the restaurant. I personally think I would be more inclined to try the restaurant right after a cold brew from Anchorage Brewing Company if that fence wasn't in the middle of the parking. Maybe consider opening the space to increase foot traffic. Overall solid product. Not great due to price. Reduce the tocos to 3 dollars and I'm buying up the store. read more

Can easily get to five stars if they made some minor adjustments. My favorite was the Suadero Taco, great flavors and texture, Carne Asada Taco was great tasting but had a few tough pieces. Although theTripa Taco had a great taste it was chewy enough to tire my jaws. Lastly the Pastor Taco was too salty, I couldn't finish it. Horchata was delicious. Tried this place twice and I really wanted to like it. Service is not there and they charge sit down restaurant prices but are half step above fast food. They charge for everything (salsa, escabeche). Food tastes fine but not good enough for the rate they charge. The place looks nice and they have great murals painted in there. We were excited to try the new taco joint in town! The tacos were tasty but the breakfast burrito was probably the best thing we ate. We had the chorizo and carne asada tacos - the chorizo ones were flavorful. The only thing we were disappointed about was how pricey everything was. The tacos were street tacos, so not very big in size with also minimal toppings, and yet they were $7-$8/each. We paid $2 for a small side of salsa. Just wished the prices were a little more reasonable! Or as a suggestion, maybe run combo specials of ordering multiple tacos. read more

Ordered the trio tacos for $24.00 and I would like to say these were the worst tacos I've ever ate. They come piled high and were overly breaded, extremely oily and when I bit into them, they were cold and doughy. I literally had to smear the uncooked dough from the protein and ate that alone. If you are going to charge that much for 3 tacos you should at least deliver something better than a greasy mess. The restaurant itself was clean and welcoming. Andrew, with respect but you are oh-so w-r-o-n-g. You can't get a better taco in Anchorage (with the one exception of the fish tacos at Bear Tooth Grill). On the spendy-side, okay yes, but the tacos we received were LOADED with meat and deliciousness. We ordered the carna asada and the El Jerry - both were terrific. We also had the pickled veggies, and they were delectable. Friendly and attentive service and high quality food in a great atmosphere -- the painted walls are just beautiful. The King Cake looked the part but completely missed the mark. Outside of the appearance, nothing about the King Cake was King Cake. Ordered cream cheese and strawberry, which was nowhere to be found. Was hard as a rock before the night was over, and for $62, I would have rather paid to have Gambino's shipped to Alaska for twice the cost. read more
