Drool... Had a chance to try them out when the sun was out in front of Double Shovel. Repeat visit is a must. (Sadly, they are closed for the winter though). The flaming cheetos elote was good but not great.. Would rather safe my calories for the other yummies!

Well, well, look what we have here! A new type of food never before seen in Anchorage: Guatemalan! (still patiently waiting for Burmese, maybe it will hit the Anchorage scene in 2029) I've never been to Guatemala, but I have been to neighboring El Salvador. I'm not sure how "authentic" the food is, nor do I care, because it's really good! I got a pupusa which is hard to describe if you've never had one. I actually had a few in El Salvador and this one was very similar, but WAY more dressed up with toppings (this is a good thing!) It's kind of like a gooey corn-based flatbread that's often stuffed with cheese. Think of if Indian naan bread and a tamale had a baby. It's something like that. It's kind of similar to arepa. Anyway, I had the "mountain pupusa" special. It was a pupusa topped with a plethora of fresh and colorful toppings. This place is located at RE:Made on Tuesdays and will be at the Spenard Foodtruck carnival on Thursdays, when that starts up again. Definitely give them a shot!

Central American cuisine has arrived in Anchorage! What an awesome, and creative addition. More specifically Mochileros is Guatemalan, which I've never had. But, as Andrew mentioned the food is similar to Salvadoran cuisine, which I have eaten. As soon as I saw David B. Post about this place I knew I had to try it. This past Thursday I headed over to the Spenard Food Truck Carnival to do just that. I was not disappointed. The guy who served up was super friendly, and helpful. We arrived kind of late in the afternoon so they were out of some of the items we wanted to try. With the guidance of our server we decided to ordered the pupusa and the mountain pupusa. Absolutely delicious!! I figured that the mountain pupusa was just the regular pupusa with meat thrown on top, and I was wrong. Both pupusas have different flavor profiles, and both are delicious!! I love pupusas, and these were very well made. Light, golden brown, super cheesy and not too greasy. The toppings and sauces were fresh and flavorful. Even though this meal came out of a food truck it was still presented well, and came out hot! Portion sizes were decent for the price. A little on the small side in my opinion, but I can always eat more so I try not to be hyper critical of portion size. Definitely a welcomed addition to Anchorage, and our food truck circuit. I can't wait to try some of their other items, and also check them out at Anchorage ReMade!

What a surprise to find this awesome food truck!! This trick has Guatemalan food, very similar to Mexican. We ordered chicken doradas, pupusas with chicharrón and cheese, street corn... Street corn needs some work although it's tasty. servings are very generous and taste very authentic. Tortillas are all handmade, too. Since it's freshly made it may take a little. Being patient is worth it. Staff is very nice and speaks both English and Spanish. I will definitely go back to try more of their dishes!

Finally! This food truck is so hard to catch, but we made it happen. The Elotes and the inspired flavors are bomb! They were not truly authentic but I still believe everything had awesome flavor. The carne asada on the tacos was juicy and the pickled veggies are always a bonus . Also the presentation is pretty spot on for a take out order. Great place to satisfy my craving.

So I had heard about this truck and how good they were but had never the opportunity to try it. Then I saw where's they'd no on base and had to have it. Let me tell you, they didn't disappoint. I had the asada tacos with chips. The tortillas, obviously made daily, were so soft and flavorful. Filled with fresh asada steak and veggies, delicious! So authentic, nothing like it in Anchorage. The chips I believe are also made daily and so crispy and flavorful. Hands down, best authentic tacos I've had since I was down by the border of Mexico. You won't be disappointed!

Stopped by this food truck after seeing that they sell elote... the way to my heart! I think Mochileros fills a gap in the Anchorage food scene and has some unique options which I can't wait to try. Today, however, I kept it basic with an order of papusas & elote. The elote was perfect, I don't even know what to say about it - if you have had good elote before, then you know. Corn, cotija, crema, tajin, and a lime wedge...how can you go wrong? The papusas are somehow both dense & fluffy, the right ratio of cheese to maza, served with some really good salsa & spicy veggie mix, topped with a little cotija. I was glad to discover that the salsa has good flavor, not just heat, as salsas can really be hit or miss around town. The only negative was that my papusas had a couple (small) extremely crunchy bits that were too hard to chew - my dogs were very happy for those pieces! Other reviews mentioned the papusas have bacon or chicarron, so maybe those were the hard bits. Staff was friendly and full of pride for their food. Can't wait to try more of their menu!

This week was the grand opening of Gathering AK Cafe, a chef collective that has rotating occupancy at Anchorage ReMADE (side note: I think that is an amazing concept). Yes, the same one that sells awesome repurposed furniture. I wasn't sure what to expect as I'm not at all familiar with Guatemalan food, but my taste buds can attest to the fact that Mochileros has great eats. Except "great" doesn't do this place justice. Exhibit A: flaming hot Cheetos elotes. Like, what? I was not expecting such a trendy twist on this iconic street food. It was very satisfying in a junk foody way. Their chicken dobladas are just like hard tacos, except they're literally adorned by a "skirt" of cheese. There was just so much cheese. Oh, and the pupusas, they're also stuffed with cheese. The saving graces here are the accompanying pickled carrots, onions and peppers that act as the perfect foil to all the heaviness. Overall, I was incredibly impressed and would easily return. Think of it as a fresh riff on Mexican food. Almost like a cooler, more ecologically conscious older brother to Mexican food. Alright, I'm done.

Visited Mochileros for the first time August 26, 2022. They were great. My daughter and I shared the bacon papusa, Asada tacos, elote and chicken dobladas- it was a lot of food- all of it delicious. We loved it all and will be visiting again.

Unlike any central American food that I have ever in my life eaten! They are currently operating in the café at re:Made 13500 Old Seward Hwy. every Tuesday from 11:00 to5:00 Until they get they're mobile operation dialed in. My fellow foodie, the Barron of Brisket (BoB), suggested that I try Mochileros, The latest food truck to join the scene offering Guatemalan fare. That is a mighty powerful recommendation. The BoB and I met for lunch and got a little bit of history on the place from the owner. Just like a flavor profile develops layers over time, so did the story of how they came to be. I will never be able to express how much I enjoy talking to fellow foodies. A passion driven pursuit is impossible to hide. So the menu was short, I knew that I was in for a treat. I ordered the Papusas while the BoB ordered the Tacos de Carne Azada and Chicken Dobladas. The Carne Azada is the only dish that seemed vaguely familiar. I truly appreciate when somebody puts effort into building a menu that they want to present instead of trying to figure out what I want to eat. There was a lot of care put into making the ingredients and individual components of the dish. The sauce on top of my lunch was a very light chili type of sauce with only a whisper of heat and a very mild flavor. The carrots and jalapeños were pickled in house. I got to taste the carne as well. It was vividly reminiscent of the way that my dear mom cooks...putting love on a plate for people she cares about! I can't wait for their mobile operation to launch onto the local food truck scene! I will be one of the first guys in line.

An absolute must try! This food truck is a personal favorite of mine. I love their food. The food is great. The service is spectacular. You are always greeted with a smile. Be prepared to wait on your food BUT The food is worth the wait. We recently moved out of Alaska and I have been craving their food.

Ended up going to the Spenard food truck carnival! And have always wanted to try this food truck but I finally did. The carne asada mountain pupusa are amazing and a lot of food to eat! I would recommend you eat it hot! Wish they had a bit more heat to it but overall it was delicious. Would recommend giving them a try!

    Chicken Dobladas!!
    Erik A.

Stop what you're doing and go eat here. I cannot recommend this place though. My girlfriend and I just tried this for the first time the other day and at cannot stop talking about it! We both ordered the Chicken Dobladas and shared an order of Papusas (my apologies if I misspelled those!) and they were amazing! The portions are great and the quality is top notch. Nothing frozen or processed here! If I had to critique anything it would be making the portion of the Dobladas as 4 smaller pieces instead of two massive ones. This would make eating them much easier. I will most definitely be returning!

I wasn't prepared for the ordering process. It was kind of a mess. Let me explain: I walked in and the first table full of people was REALLY close to the door. Threw me off. I worked my way around them. Then I walked past the kitchen/cooking area toward the thing that made the most sense. The bar area. There was a register, a counter, and a person...looking at me. But no. He told me to order at the other counter. So I walked over and grabbed the paper menu lying on the counter. But it wasn't a menu, it was their produce order from Charlie's produce. So I stood there awkwardly until someone asked to take my order and I asked for the menu, which was above me on a tv screen. And that's the last bad thing. Now I'll know. (And so do you) Amazing food. Cold beer. You'll love it.

I would recommend getting your drinks from the Speedway next door. They have a better selection and are a bit cheaper. My meal was delicious. The chicken was tasty, hot and fresh. The collards and yams, even though not the best that I have had, were tasty as well. The chicken though was up there with the best I have had. This is a decent place to get your Alaskan soul food. The first red flag was 1pm on week day and there was only 3 parties in the place. The one and only server was very nice, but being the only one, twice when new parties entered he would walk away. Wife ordered chicken katsu rice plate. The overall theme is everything is bland. EVERYTHING.. Her cabbage slaw/salad had a white creamy sauce, my best guess is mayo mixed with ranch but only if both was every kind of free there is, fat, sugar, carb, keto, and most importantly, taste FREE. Her rice was purple, there were purple chunks, not sure if it was potato, the rice was mushy, wet, and Bland. Her kutsu sauce was made from the same everything free ingredients. Come on man, Kutsu sauce is 3 ingredients and all three are bold flavors, how do you mess that up. But ok, they want to be fusion, maybe add some cilantro or chili. She asked for soy sauce and salt to try and add some flavor. Half way through she has me hold out my hand and pours a handful of the "salt" from the shaker. It was not salt granules, almost looked like a salt substitute. I honestly don't know what it was but when I tasted it I would be extremely generous by saying I got a 25% salt flavor. Normally, you put 2-4 tablespoons of salt in your hand and lick your finger, when you taste that, you get a powerful punch in the mouth of dam, that's salty. I was dumbfounded, if they are using that "salt" to cook with them makes since why everything is so bland. I don't want to repeat the Bland Bland Bland theme over and over. I had bulgogi, kutsu, and BBQ chicken tacos. I will skip to the end- yep, you guessed it, Bland. We did have the bulgogi egg roll, I do want to touch on this only because I was so mad at myself once we left I dug Into the reviews. These are one of the most positive commented items, BUT those comments are from over a year ago. Overall, 11$ for two small egg rolls cut in half is ridiculous. Then if you bite/taste just the egg roll, there is a 5% taste of bulgogi sauce. Which again is so explosive of a sauce. But, If you drown the egg roll in the creamy mild sriracha sauce then the egg roll is ok. If you forget what it should taste like and just concentrate on how did they make the sauce with no heat, then you could get at least a 2-2.5 star. Server deserves 5 stars, Food deserves 2 stars.
