Absolutely authentic gyro (pronounced yee-row) and doner kebab. I've had these in Egypt, Iraq, and Germany, and this is really the real deal. The restaurant is owned by a father, son, and uncle. They love to talk, if you strike up a conversation. The dad threw in felafel, which look like donut holes but are made of chickpeas and beans - mmmm. They've been open 4 1/2 years. We were staying in Highland Falls just for one night and didn't see many dining options. We decided to get takeout from Rafi's and eat it back in our hotel room. I ordered a chicken shawarma wrap, and my wife ordered a vegetarian wrap. We also ordered french fries. All of the food was delicious. Very friendly service, too. It's a small place, so it's better for takeout than dining in. That said, if I lived in the area, I'd get takeout from Rafi's once a week. This is by far one of the better options in town. The portions are huge for the price. It is Mediterranean food with Greek and Lebanese influence as far as I can tell. The doner platter was very good and enough food for 2 meals. Lots of variety in the platter, and they have 3 sauces you can get (tahini, red pepper, and tzatziki). The empanadas are Lebanese style - more of a meat pie - they are very big and filled with beef and an egg. My favorite item so far are the spicy gyro egg rolls - SO GOOD. Just enough spice and the dipping sauce is awesome. I have had bites of the gyro, which are also really big portions. I want to try the chicken next. Right before this place opened I was saying this town needed a Mediterranean restaurant. They heard my call! read more

Finally got to try here, it's bit hard to know when they open due to lack of hours posted on door. That said, I will say the service is very warm and inviting, the son manages the counter and the dad cook up. When me and my friend went here, there was no issues, asking for extra sauce or to go containers, the son was very polite and willing to a great server. Plus offered the cheaper lunch special when I was thinking on full platter, let me tell the lunch special is plenty of food as it is. I mean fries, rice,side salad and the protein, it was so much food, I can't imagine how much more I would gotten with the full size platter. The meat was very tender, well seasoned and juicy, fries were piping hot and lightly salted, rice was very seasoned and fluffily and side salad, well was great, but definitely could been dressed bit more. I like white and red sauce and got more since helped the salad and honestly love true homemade sauce. Well worth the trip to finally try them here. Still find it crazy a lunch special give that much food, you definitely get spoiled here, appreciated a place that does not use the current economy to be cheap, and puts customers first. read more

Read previous reviews and wanted a reason to grab lunch anyway in the area and glad everything worked out well. Food is very good and decent portions for a relatively inexpensive place. Only downside is the size of restaurant is limited to two tables and bar stool seating which is fine for eating in or take out. read more

I have been looking for a good gyro place, with no luck. But recently, someone on a local media page suggested Rafi's, so made the trip over Storm King and found the location easily. There is nothing better than watching the chefs carve the gyro meat off the spit: you just know that it is going to be good! This may very well be the best gyro I have EVER had. I really wanted to try Rafis Gyro Loco since moving to town and I was pleasantly surprised with their options! Being of Mediterranean heritage some of these items on the menu are meals I am used to eating, Rafis did not disappoint by bringing the flavors I am familiar with to life. I am glad to know I have a spot to get Döner and baklava locally, that is incredibly delicious! Menu Faves: The Baklava: This baklava is perfect! Just sweet enough but not overbearing or dripping in syrup. The inside consists of pistachios - which also makes it extra delicious! I absolutely recommend trying their baklava if you have a sweet tooth or craving for pastry sweets! Rafis baklava was very familiar to my native baklava and I look forward to having my dad try it for comparison. The Egg-roll: This was delicious!! My only comment is that it was a bit too salty, but that did not stop me from devouring them. The remind me of an egg-roll meets Börek. They consist of beef gyro, jalapeño, and cheese (I believe Monterrey cheese but don't quote me on that!) read more

On the recommendation of the person taking my phone order that the donor meal would be a good choice.It was never explained what was in doner dinner and neither was it explained on the menu.The meal came in a container with ever thing , fries ,falafel ,yellow rice,salad; which was buried under ever thing and cut up pita bread . I looked up what a doner dinner was, it should have the meat or falafel,the fries,and the not imitation rice pilaf, and the salad and dressing on the side not buried. Being disappointed I called the establishment and explained all this, he could care less. Not a very good business man. Way too expensive for what you get. Almost $14 for JUST a gyro sandwich coming from a restaurant far away from NYC. This is a blue collar town. And you don't get anything with your sandwich for $14. And they have started to give less meat with their sandwiches. Very disappointing. They need a cheaper "just the gyro" option. read more

We are from San Diego, California staying in Highland Falls. We were looking for a good restaurant so did a little research online and found a little Mediterranean restaurant on Main Street called Rafi's Gyro Loco. The ratings were good, so we decided to try it out. That was a great decision on our part because the food was incredible. I ordered the beef and lamb Gyro, and the flavor was fantastic, and the portions were large. In fact, I only ate half of mine and took the rest back to our hotel to eat later. The owner and his son were very friendly, and the service was great! If we're ever in town again, we will definitely eat here. This restaurant truly deserves 5-stars. read more
