This was by far the most unique tour we had in a while. We took the 5:00 PM tour, and our driver,…read moreJoel Miner, was none other than the owner himself. There are 5 Sherp vehicles and we felt very fortunate and honor to have him as our guide. We are a family of four, including two teenagers, and he made the experience enjoyable for all of us. He even used a drone to scout the area for wildlife. As a retired state trooper who participated in rescue missions, he immediately made us feel safe and comfortable. He was fun, knowledgeable, and shared many personal stories that kept our entire family entertained throughout the tour. Toward the end of the trip, he spotted a young moose in a nearby field, which was the perfect cherry on top of an already amazing experience. One of the best parts was receiving a souvenir video package that included drone footage from our tour. It was such a thoughtful touch and a wonderful keepsake. Highly recommended! We had a fantastic experience, and it was well worth the money.

Then we came to Alaska and spent 3 days in the Fairbanks area without seeing any wildlife. I drove around Healy...beautiful mountains, but still no wildlife. To be clear, there's never a guarantee of seeing animals in the wild, Joel was very clear on this point, but Joel, Tim, and Mark did everything to increase our chances and they delivered! Between two simultaneous Sherp vehicles and multiple drones scouting ahead for wildlife, we saw 2 adult moose and a cub. We also saw a snowshoe hare. We also saw beautiful mountain ranges from a perspective you won't see from the roadway, even if you visit Denali National Park. We got to ride over frozen rivers and lakes and see a historic WW2 era cabin and hear the unique history of it, as well as Alaska in general. The guides went out of their way to make the trip fun, safe, and informative. In the end, the tour was expensive, but a fantastic value for what you get. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting the area.

Unfortunately, the experience did not match our expectations. While the staff was knowledgeable, our driver was friendly and accommodating, and it was clear that the team cares about their dogs and dog sledding, the overall experience felt misleading. The majority of the 90-minute tour consisted of a presentation about Jeff and Amanda's dog mushing career, some training methods, and racing experiences. While interesting, it felt more like a seminar than an interactive dog experience. Our entire family was given approximately two minutes total with a single puppy. Much of that time was spent positioning us for a photo, which was later offered for purchase for an additional $10. We were also told we would have opportunities to pet the adult dogs, but when the dogs were brought through the audience, they passed by our almost every group without giving us the chance to interact with them. As a result, our actual hands-on interaction with the dogs amounted to only a few minutes during the entire visit. I believe the experience would be improved by either renaming it to better reflect what it actually is--a dog sledding seminar--or restructuring the schedule to provide significantly more interaction with the dogs. For example, dedicating a larger portion of the tour to meeting, petting, and learning about the dogs firsthand would better align with what many visitors are likely expecting. The presentation itself also felt longer than necessary, with many of the same points being repeated throughout. Most of the information could have been communicated in a much shorter timeframe, allowing for more meaningful engagement with the animals. Additionally, the experience felt somewhat rushed, as if the focus was on moving groups through efficiently rather than creating a welcoming and memorable visit. The staff were knowledgeable, but interactions felt more like a lecture than a conversation, and we did not feel particularly welcomed or encouraged to engage. If you enjoy learning in-depth about competitive dog sledding and hearing stories from experienced mushers, you may find value in this tour. However, if you are looking for a hands-on experience with huskies and puppies, you may leave disappointed. Based on our experience, I would not recommend it to friends or family seeking meaningful interaction with the dogs, especially given the price point of $50 per person.

I learned about Denali Jeep Excursions from a local Alaskan resident. So glad I met this person…read morebecause I wasn't aware of Denali Jeep Excursions prior to our meeting. You can easily miss this because there is so much to do around Denali. Our tour guides were Nancy and Abby. They were great! I rode with Abby. She was very personable and knowledgeable. I was quite surprised that she was only on the job for a month. Wow! I would've thought that she was on the job for a year or two. She also drove the jeep safely and was very aware of her surroundings. You may book online at Denali Jeep Excursions website. They're offering May discounts so that was helpful. You may flinch at the price but don't! Just do it! It's so worth it. They give you your money's worth for a full four hours of your time. They offer a morning adventure at 6:30 am for all you early birds and an evening adventure at 6:30 pm. I chose the evening adventure. Also, they shuttle you from either their main office in the heart of the Denali village or one of the cruise ship hotels to a location about 10-15 minutes south to where the jeeps are parked. They also have you sign a safety waiver. I was impressed with how both Nancy and Abby practiced safety. The views on the Denali Highway are stunning! Gasoline Lake was probably my favorite. I enjoyed the mirror like surface of the lake. I would do this all over again! Great job ladies! I highly recommend this!!!

The attention to detail and care that was given me as a client was matched by the experience and knowledge of my guide. For me, this included a night spent camping near a glacier, experiencing the scenic Alaskan Highway, hiking near Denali, and seeing caribou, bear, moose, eagles, and beavers along the way. For anyone not sure about what to do during their time in Alaska, I would definitely recommend Traverse Alaska. The staff is very helpful, and willing to tailor a trip that suits your desires and abilities. I was pleased to have experienced a "ultimate" Alaskan adventure while feeling safe and cared for--all while I was learning about this incredible land and its unique, majestic inhabitants." --

Even though we didn't spot any wildlife, I never once felt like we missed out because the forest itself felt so alive with stories. Maybe Denali Backcountry Guides ask everyone at time of booking "This is a strenuous hike covering x miles and y elevation gain. Do you feel capable of making that hike?" I don't know. Just know it is disappointing to book a strenuous hike, then go slowly and only cover half. The guide was knowledgeable and the hike was good. With a different group of hikers, it would be 5 star.
