I visited Rails & Ales about a month ago for lunch I had the burger special which came dressed w bacon, cheese & french fries on the bun. I did like it but prefer my fries on the side si my mouth will fir over the burger. Fried green tomatoes are served with the center containing pimento cheese. Delicious. The roasted Brussel sprouts were fantastic. I tasted my sweetened tea a couple of times, but the food had my total attention. The service was great for me. I took home food and a side order of mac and cheese that was to die for. The atmosphere was very nice as was my server. Give it a try. You'll like it. If you're really picky about being catered to, try lunch instead of dinner. read more

Trust that it is WELL worth it to travel further into Georgetown, IN. This hidden gem is bright, airy and welcoming upon entering. Not to mention the staff great you from all over within the restaurant. There is an upstairs lounge that hosts live music at times and plenty of drink options. The Railbird Chicken Sandwich is beyond delicious. There Hot Brown was for the most part very good. The sauce needs a little work. But that doesn't change the warm greeting and welcome we found from Brandon (don't let the PBP hat fool ya!), the Scott Klein, who created our lovely meal and took time to chat with us. Tried Rails and Ales with my son. Was really interested to have a good bat/restaurant near us. Started with some of their special drinks the smoked cherry old fashion and the Bitter Berry. Unfortunately was disappointed in both. I love using smoke but that is all I tasted in the old fashion. The cherries were way over smoked and could not taste much except for some lemon in the other drink. Then ordered the shrimp poBoy and the pretzel and beer cheese and the cheese curds. The sandwich and the pretzel and beer cheese were good. I could do without the cheese curds. The service was good. A musician was playing and was good but the upstairs was very loud even after he stopped playing. read more

Dined there for the first time last night. Despite a VERY long wait for our food (kitchen was understaffed), we were happy when it came out hot and delicious! We were comped a portion of our bill for the long wait, and let the staff know that we'll be back. I'm sure it was just "one of those nights". Dang it - I had high hopes this local eatery would hit the mark - particularly after recognizing the need to shutdown for a period and revamp after initially opening. Unfortunately, problems persist - primarily service and wait time. We were promptly seated and greeted on a Thursday evening. Upstairs area was full and few tables on ground floor were open. Server took our drink and appetizer order quickly. So far, so good. Menu review was a bit disappointing, but not a game changer. Drinks were delivered and appetizer arrived in a timely manner. Order for soup, salad and a burger were placed. Then, we waited and waited and waited. No check-in from our waitress and no food. We stopped the person who delivered our food, an apparent manager, and asked for a food delivery update. She said she'd been watching our table and knew it had been a long time. After going to the kitchen she returned to say food was forthcoming. Unfortunately, there was no apology for the delay or follow-up after the food was delivered and no comment about the delay from our server . The layout of the restaurant is definitely a servers nightmare. The steep steps to the second floor limits expediency. The kitchen is on the first floor. The bar on the ground floor is in same area as dining. Our server was also managing the bar and the takeout orders picked up at the bar. This definitely impeded her service to us. The interior is modern and fresh. The small outside seating is close to the road and not very enticing. Parking is onsite and convenient. The food was above average. Unfortunately, the dessert we wanted to order off the menu was not available. An overall disappointing experience. Seriously hope they take another step back and fix the problems that will keep this establishment from being successful if not corrected. read more

Pleasantly busy for Wednesday dinner, but as a result we were quickly placed outside and forgotten. Twenty plus minutes another table sat outside and our waitress came out quick to assist them, when asked if she could locate ours she begrudgingly said she would. There are only three tables outside and is dog friendly. SHOCKER she was our waitress. The bar tender did get us a blonde ale(in house) only option that was good, could have been colder. So we did have time as we waited to memorize the menu and asked if we wanted appetizers... SHOCKER we say yes, then told no to everything we asked for, no to pretzel, no pierogi and no everything so she said let me tell you what we have. Curds was it, we passed. MORE SHOCKERS Wanted cabbage rolls, nope out. Went with wings, nope out again. Never got an offer for another beer. Fish and chips came out barely warm. Asked if we could replace slaw with mac (both 5$ sides) she did and then upcharged up over 5$ and kept the slaw. Kinks are being worked out in this nice venue, but being prepared and ordering is key to success. read more

9/20/25 7pm Waited 1 hour for our food. My husband's fish was good. The fried green tomato's were also good. But.... My cheese burger was Horrible! It should have never been served to me. The Burger was burnt on both sides and was dry. The bun was also burnt top and bottom of the bun. It had everything on it and I requested no onions or pickles. The menu said it was a 6 oz burger... no way! Maybe a 4oz burger. read more

We ordered food from Rails & Ales for the first time. We both ordered a Railbird sandwich and onion rings. The sandwich sounded fantastic in the description: crispy fried chicken thigh, pepper jack, bacon, smoked cherry tomatoes, spicy pickles, and Carolina barbecue. With that lineup, we expected something bold and flavorful. In reality, the chicken wasn't crispy at all, and the sandwich as a whole ended up wet and a bit unwieldy to eat. Between the sauce and the whole cherry tomatoes (which really should have been halved), everything kind of slid around and made for a messy experience. Flavor-wise, it was oddly muted, slightly spicy, but at the same time somehow still bland, which was surprising given the ingredients. The onion rings were also disappointing. The coating didn't have much seasoning and mostly tasted oily, and the onions inside were more mushy than tender. They just didn't have that sweet, satisfying bite you hope for in a good onion ring. At about $1 per ring, we were definitely expecting more. I also tried the chocolate mousse cake, which was okay but pretty underwhelming. It was slightly dry and lacking that rich chocolate flavor you'd expect, especially at $9 a slice. Overall, nothing was inedible, but nothing really stood out either. For the price, we were hoping for food with a bit more flavor, texture, and attention to detail. We went in optimistic, but left feeling like the experience just didn't quite justify the cost. read more

This was my first visit to the area's newest brewery. Let's start with a home run, the fish & chips were well seasoned, very good and the portion size won't disappoint. The fries are firm, salty and some of the best around, the fish was just as good. The service was excellent and everything about the inside of this place is new. It's well-lit and clean. However, it can get loud, all of the surfaces inside are hard and nothing to absorb the sound, so just a few people can quickly turn this into a loud venue. My wife had the brussel sprouts and to be honest just didn't care for them and sent them back only because this is a new restaurant and they needed to know that these were off. The waitress replaced them with fries and charged us for both. We also had onion rings which were oily and lacked taste; the thinly sliced jalapenos on top of the rings were the best part. This place is so new and still developing, so they're not set up yet to fill growlers. I'm looking forward to a visit where I can purchase a flight of samples and then fill my growler. Also, small samples of the beer are available. It was a good first visit. read more

The residents of Georgetown have waited a very long time for Rails and Ales to be renovated and opened for business. I'm happy to report that it was worth the wait! I've had lunch there a couple of times recently. The food is really good and served quickly and piping hot. The portions are huge and I always leave with another meal in hand. Not being a day drinker and not a beer lover, I can't report on the spirits there. I can say that the bar area is beautiful and there are always craft beers available. Stopped on a Sunday driving thru. Was excited to see them open. Great variety of beer on tap. Was rushed to get a food order in because they told us they were closing at 5pm. Quite surprised at the early closing, as this place seems to be a dinner spot. They ended up closing at 8pm. We ordered the Onion oup- which would have been awesome, but it was cold and no both. We ordered a hamburger medium well- it came out rare AND they put 2 whole cherry tomatoes on it (instead of cutting them up) , and the fresh were under cooked. Come on guys! There isn't anywhere else in that small time offering what you have.....you need to pull together and do MUCH better. Especially for the prices you are asking. The place is so nice with a great atmosphere and nice deck. Hate to see it not make it, since the concept of local food and brew is involved. read more

The atmosphere & decor is amazing! Can definitely tell a lot of work & sparing no expense went into it. At the time of our visit, it was newly open, maybe 2 weeks, so we went with understanding that the kinks probably hadn't had time to be worked out. We requested an outside table & there were none immediately available, so we sat upstairs at the bar for drinks & an appetizer (cheese curds--delicious!) while we waited. They were out of several appetizers & entrees, which was a disappointment. Maybe 30 minutes later, our table outside was ready. Our food took awhile & then came out cold, but it was tasty once they warmed it up. We both got chicken Mac & cheese. The servers are sweet, but aren't strong servers just yet. It's a really cool place, good atmosphere & good food. Lots of drink options. Their house blond ale is 5 stars!! Definitely still have kinks to work out with quality/presentation of food & service. Food was certainly worth going for. Be ready to wait though. Service was way below average- took over 30 minutes for the loaded fry app, drinks were forgotten, and really no apology or recognition by server (although to be fair, the bartender who was not our server did step in and help when she sensed our frustration). The place has been decorated very nicely and it was very comfortable. Our entrées were all above average and the price point seems fair as long as we don't have the same server, we may try it again. read more

My husband and I stopped in for lunch a few weeks ago - and had the most delicious burgers! Perfectly cooked as we requested and loaded with delicious toppings. The fries were excellent as well. Went there on Wednesday evening with my family of 4. Chose to sit outside on the deck. The weather was perfect, we watched a softball game being played on a nearby field. A train went by and we made the engineer blow his horn. The food was great! The cheese curd appetizer was the bomb. Their craft beer was was really good. We'll definitely be back. read more

Finally tried this place after wanting to for a few weeks. The ambience is absolutely awesome. The upstairs bar is amazing. You can tell they definitely did not short change anything. We were served drinks immediately upon being seated. The spicy margarita and cherry old-fashioned were great. I also tried the hazy IPA, it was good as well. The fried chicken sandwich was absolutely fire. I saw other people saying the cheeseburger wasn't good, but my wife's was fantastic. This place is great, and I definitely recommend it, whether a family dinner or heading upstairs to the bar area with a few buddies. This place is awesome! It is beautiful inside! And there is a deck with a view over the tracks and into the park! The beer was great, the blonde awesome and I especially liked the hazy IPA! We had cheese curds, unique twist with peppers and honey. The burger and chicken sandwiches were really juicy. But the tallow-fried French fries were show stealing. I could eat a bucket of them! I'll start with the service. Two couples, one couple orders a cheeseburger and loaded fries. Other couple, cheeseburger, wings and french onion soup. First couples cheeseburger and wings come out, no soup, and they start to eat so the food wouldn't get cold. Ten or so minutes later other food comes out, still no soup. First couple almost done and they remind them about the soup. Dishes from first couple cleared and second couple nearly done, remind them of the soup again. Second couple finishes and presto! The soup arrives! Cheeseburger comes with fries, if you want a different equally priced side they charge $2 extra. Not a higher premium side, an equal priced side. Cheeseburger was burnt one side and tasted like charcoal. Menu price was $16.00 but when check came they had charged $16.48. Everything was marked up 3% to cover the credit card fees. Don't like it but understand it and they should tell you first. Funniest thing was waitress offered a refill on Pepsi, said keep your straw. Half way thru eating she comes snd asks if I need something to drink and I remind her she took my glass and I'm still holding my straw. They do have really nice long plastic straws! I might try them again in six months but I can't them making that long. Best of luck to them read more
