Can you give zero stars!? We booked this as an add on to the Polar Express, so if you're reading this and considering doing the same, STOP NOW. From the time we walked in and the man, with sores on his arms, served us our water we should've immediately vacated the premises. Our kids were already seated and watching Polar Express, so we decided to see if things got better... spoiler alert, they didn't. The buffet consisted of a welted lettuce salad with mushy cucumbers, the rest of the food was dumped from a can and heated to a barely edible like warm temperature... now moving on to the main event - boiled ham and turkey bathing in a warm water bath. Can you say delicious!? We all consumed about 50 cents worth of food and headed across the street to the truly lovely (seriously, it really is) coffee/gift shop where we were able to get peppermint tea to soothe our tender tummies. Wow - can you "A Horrible Experience"? On a busy night for The Polar Express (keep in mind I was told is owned by the same people.). Three of us went to eat here as it is the only restaurant in a few blocks still open. The place was full, but clearing out for the second run of the train. We sat down. Had to ask someone to finally take our order. They came back and said "Out of fries." They came back and said "Out of Pot Roast." The came back a third time and said they were out of something else. Each time we changed our order to accommodate their poor planning (keep in mind I was told is owned by the same people.) We finished eating mediocre food. Had to wait for bill for 15 mins because only ONE person knows how to run cash register. They were outside smoking! 1. Horrible service. 2. Pitiful planning by mngmt. 3. Incredibly mediocre food. $20 per head for the Polar Express pre-ride buffet -- We should have ate mayonnaise sandwiches in the car with a case of a Faygo and a Family Size bag of Mister Bee chips. We would have a better meal and saved $100. The Mashed potatoes tasted like bleach and soap, and they were nothing more than boiled and puréed potatoes. The salad was wilted, the cranberry sauce still had the ring marks from the can, and the ham tasted (and looked) like Spam. Drink refills came with no ice, and the cookies came in vacuum sealed baggies. Everyone's stomachs were uneasy afterwards; I'm bothered to think about what we actually ate. This place makes drive thru fast food look like Ruth's Chris, and a gas station sandwich look like something from a gourmet delicatessen. AVOID, EVEN IF IT'S FREE! read more

Two Thumbs Down On This One We ate dinner at this place on a Saturday night in July. I ordered a 12 oz ribeye medium with a garden salad. I was served a huge hunk of beef that looked like a pot roast. It was in no way prime rib. It was an overcooked, dry tough and disgusting piece of beef. They also brought out a terrible baked potato and cold green beans. Even the water had a terrible taste. On top of the bad food a very young girl waited on us and it was obvious that she had no training. While we were waiting two gentlemen who had just finished their dinner stopped by our table and told us that their meals were terrible. I wish they had talked to us before we placed our order. We complained to two waitresses but only received a whimpy "sorry about that. Don't go there because you'll be disappointed. read more

Was staying in Bridgeport, WV and returning to Centreville. A 'local' recommended this restaurant since I was taking the scenic way back through Elkins. Nice place. Service was excellent even though only one waitress seemed to be on duty this Saturday afternoon. We had appetizer and sandwiches. read more

Sad sad sad! At eight, waitress looked like she wanted us to leave after seeing we had seven (only six others there). We wanted to eat lightly and ordered the only real salad on the menu (speeder) which was tiny, tiny for $5. The promised cheese and olives were absent. Other dishes were from the freezer or buckets. Quite institutional. They are gambling that their customers are all one-timers (scenic train riders) who will not be able to boycott in the future. Find somewhere else!!! Anywhere else!! read more

One of the best places to eat in Elkins, has an amazing view of the trains coming in and out. CJ Maggie's Calzones are my favorite, but after I eat there I eat here the next meal. We've had large groups and no one has ever complained about their food. I usually order one of the steak dinners which is prepared just as good as any steakhouse, the sides are a bit better than Steer's Steakhouse down the road. They have a gift shop for the train station and some information on the area. Upstairs is a big room you can rent out. The dining room is plenty big and the wait staff works very hard to make sure your drinks are filled and that you are happy. Couldn't ask for more. Plenty of selections for kids. read more

We stopped in right after riding on the Polar Express. The restaurant was empty except for one other family when we sat down. We ordered 1 cup of soup and some sandwiches. Literally 50 minutes after we ordered, our food came out. We almost left because 2 tables who came in after us and ordered after us received their food first (and they ordered full meals as opposed to sandwiches). The French Onion soup came out after all the sandwiches and they somehow burned the soup. It was inedible. The smell was awful and taste was worse. I asked for the bill and requested that the soup be removed. They made a big deal out of removing it, yelling to the back "I need something voided" sounding very exasperated. The table behind us asked if their food was coming soon and if they could have drink refills complaining they'd been in the restaurant for an hour. The 2 waitresses then stood in the middle of the restaurant complaining about the customers stating "I mean they can see that we're busy." When they noticed me looking right at them they turned their backs on me and began whispering. $35 for 3 sandwiches and a kid's meal. We should have just gone through a drive through on the way home. read more

Service was fine, clean atmosphere, and food was ok. Prime rib was tender but greasy. Pot roast was pretty good too. Much of the food though was probably from a can or previously frozen. Green beans not seasoned, just heated up for example. Potatoes and salad were freshly prepared and fine. read more

Not even close to one star but I had to rate this place. Worst restaurant in Elkins. Don't go to this place unless somebody else takes it over. I'm not sure why it's still open other than they are in a good location and people make the mistake of thinking it's good. When I think of places I have ate that I had the worst food and worst service this place comes to mind first. It should be a great place they just need a chef good servers and somebody that knows how to run a restaurant. read more

Bad food, cold food, poor service. We ordered chicken parmesan and it came with no parmesan. The waiter said, "really?" when I told him it usually has parmesan cheese on top. We didn't get any bread or refills on our drinks and the salad was wilted bag salad. read more

The restaurant was bright, had a nice atmosphere and friendly wait staff. The price was average for a sit-down meal, but the food was truly not very good. The sandwich meats seemed as though they were from a packet and the chicken "tenders" were low grade frozen nuggets. It was all edible, but it certainly wasn't worth the price. read more
