Shaded,full sun yards,Zero-scaped yards,rocky or sandy soil types,whatever. You can pick up top notch organic fertilizers, diatomaceous earth to get rid of slugs and aphids gardening and potting soil.They even have beneficial nematodes,praying mantis,ladybugs and red wiggler earth worms to aid in natural gardening aeration and pest control.How incredibly smart. Plenty of pots,garden knickknacks,tools,edging, organic seeds,bird houses,trees,rose bushes,shrubs,herbs,shade plants,ferns and all that. Which is why this is my goto place to boot. No nonsense and lots of selection. Every spring they start handing out gardening dollars and you get to cash them out for goods in August. It becomes a exceptional value if you are a frequent shopper.Gardeners tend to be obsessive so this is a great way to make sure your obsessive nature pays off in more ways than one.The bees will love it! Rainbow Gardens in Thousand Oaks is the best garden nursery in SA. The variety of plants is astonishing, from herbs, vegetables, fruits to perennials and annuals. Even though I live quite far from here, I still come about once a month with my wife just to look at the plants and walk around. My favorite part is the herb section. So many types of herbs that I didn't even know existed. Definitely recommend coming here if you even just a casual plant enthusiast. read more

Discovered this by chance, we've been to Rainbow Gardens in Bandera, don't know that there's another one here, not even sure if they are under the same management. Love it here, the staff are helpful and not as expensive as Milberger on 1604. Also like it so much since the place is not so big and pretty much one could navigate around so easily and fast. read more

Looks can definitely be deceiving. Driving by, you expect this to be a small nursery, with maybe a few plants in the back. But boy, was I blown away. Due to COVID19, you don't enter through the front doors, you follow the trail to the right of the building and enter through the side. Which leads you directly to the plants. There are so many, and it keeps going and going! There are wagons available to carry whatever your little heart desires to pick up and take home with you. I couldn't stop walking around and looking at everything, I just needed a few plants for my front yard. The prices can't be beat either, I did some price comparisons online. To check out, there are 2 booths outside, where they are practicing social distancing. Then depending on how much you spend, you get bucks to come back a few months later, which is like a coupon, to use towards your next purchase. I don't have any gardening needs right now, I just want to go walk around and look at all the different plants and trees they have to offer! read more

Just avoid this place. The plants are sick and infested with worms and aphids. I recently purchased over $100 worth of plants and all but 5 are now dead and I'm fighting an aphid infestation on my house plants now which was brought in on their Anise plant (I've never had aphids in my life). The sage had inch worms that were eating holes in the leaves, and the Mexican heather was so rootbound that it died from the base is within 72 hours. I called to see if they could help and I was met with a 45 minute hold and a rude person who said "bring in your receipt and the plants in the original pots. That's your option." There are so many lovely nurseries in the area, just go literally anywhere else. I've posted pictures of my healthy plants next to the trash they sold me along. worm eaten sage leaves, aphid covered anise leaf which days later turned into a brown mess, and rootbound Mexican heather. read more

I really like Rainbow Gardens. They have a good variety of plants and trees. That being said, some of the plants looked a little dry and scrappy during my last visit. I figure it's because they were about to get a shipment of fresh plants, since I have not seen this here before. The plants that I've purchased here have held up well, and I like their demo of different potting soils, and how they affect the health and growth of your plants. On every visit I find something that I just don't want to live without. So, I buy it! I think you may feel the same way, too. The staff here are really nice, and they get products and plants in regularly. They offer bonus bucks and there are sales and their plants are healthy. Check out is easy they have at least three or four cash registers going all the time to inside and two outside and there's plenty of parking. I really love this place because their staff is knowledgeable and very kind! We have been going here for years. I've only been to the Bandera location once, but it was pretty good. Also although it's a lot further out from us so we don't go there very often. Highly recommend Rainbow Gardens! read more

Rainbow Gardens is what you find at the end of a rainbow in San Antonio. It is much more appealing and rewarding than any pot of gold. Today, I took a look around at their "deals" now that it is closer to the end of the season and didn't see very much difference in their prices from regular season. Dirt, flowers, and plants are very well taken care of here before it heads to your own home and the prices are just as good as any Walmart or H.E.B. BTW, when did supermarkets start featuring plants? Please just leave it to the professionals. Today, there was plenty of trucks out in the rain from local growers looking to unload some of their crops. Delicious watermelons and cantaloupe....yummy. I love to see this type of local camaraderie between big business and small one person income survivors. 5 stars for being better than any supermarket and to being the coolest round hut building I have ever seen. read more

I went shopping around at various nurseries today and walking into Rainbow Gardens was wonderful. They had a roomy parking lot and it was pleasantly spaced away from their plants (a previous nursery we had just left had a small parking lot with vehicles, customers and merchandise filling a lot of the same area - the other nursery's parking situation was stressful). The folks that work here at Rainbow Gardens are very kind and knew their merchandise. We were looking for a particular ground covering plant and the first worker we saw was able to help us find exactly what we wanted. We filled up 2 wagons and were holding another tray of plants, when one of the other workers took notice and came over and helped us out with our load as we made our way to the cashier. We asked the cashier a few questions about the plants we were buying and she didn't have the answer so she radioed our questions in to the other workers around the garden. An older gentleman that worked there actually walked to our location and gave us all the information. It was nice. Customer service was amazing. Also I have to add that they have a few friendly cats that roam around the garden. They were really sweet and friendly. I had a great experience here. Loved it. read more

I'm a huge plant person and am always on the look for nursery's nearby, I saw this one online and it looked really cool so I drove 2 hours. Walked around for 5 minutes, all the indoor plants were dried up, or knocked over. I asked an employee if there was a second greenhouse because I couldn't believe this was right. Barely any indoor plants and the ones that were there were barely alive or just straight up dead. I don't know how rainbow gardens is for outdoors plants but I would not recommend for indoor. :( read more

I really love the variety and size of this nursery. There is every type of plant you may want, and the small store front and parking lot may look deceiving. Also, when you go around end of Spring, they have a promotion where you can get "bucks" to use in August. Basically, it's a $1 50% off coupon. Sometimes, even if I don't buy anything, I like to go just to look at the plants and enjoy the nursery. I purchased a rose there about eight years ago, and it is still the favorite in my subdivision due to its lovely fragrance. Over the years, I have purchased shrubs, herbs, and other items. I have always been impressed with their gardens of flowers. It's also the place where we were introduced to a plant/hedge called Sweet Olive. It was so very fragrant that we planted them all around our deck. They are evergreen and have beautiful white flowers. Anyway the point is how healthy their inventory is. I came here for a potted tomato plant for my new raised garden but the friendly staff informed my I was late and a big boxed hardware store would have them. I went walking around and found some potted herbs instead. Several staff members were very friendly and helpful. The place has a large selection of plants and outdoor garden items and has a nice cute geodesic dome as their main building The 2 cashiers were very nice when I was checking out. Overall, this nursery is much better than their larger competitor down the street who's staff were completely opposite of what I encountered here. There is a cat at this Rainbow Gardens location. Did you read that? A cat. He lives there and gets a box to sleep in. I would come here just to visit this chill creature. Otherwise - come for the plants! This nursery has some really neat vegetables and flowers! I struggle with getting broccoli and cabbage to sprout so I come here for starters. They even have asparagus! The plants are shockingly affordable and of pretty good quality. I think if you are looking for specialty plants - Rainbow Gardens will meet your needs. Otherwise, I'm a Home Depot girl. The plants there are a little cheaper. They also sell an assortment of pots and lawn ornaments as well as bedding. The employees are really, really nice. They know where all the plants are and will help you select the perfect plant. I would just be careful and not buy plants that are on the brink of death. I tried looking for succulents but I think a recent freeze killed them off. They were still being sold so don't be suckered in. Do some research and know what you're looking for before coming in. read more

Lots of little cactus babies to add to your garden, and of course lots of other plants. When I go here, it's mainly for nutrients and soils. They carry the Fox Farms line that I like to use for all my plants, and they also have the Fox Farm liquid nutrients, as well as a soil base nutrient to add based on what you are looking for (PNK mix). This selection has also grown in the last 4 months since I went there. For more specific micro nutrients for hydroponic/soil gardeners, you would probably need to find a hydro store, as there were a few I was looking for but they didn't have. Or get it online, where it where I got anything I couldn't find here. Be aware that for nutrients, it is a bit pricier than what you would find at online retailers, like Amazon. If you need it ASAP, then go here, if you can wait to get it shipped, well then do what suits you best. For soils though, no better place. read more

My green thumb turned black when I lost my basil and cilantro to the freeze a couple weeks ago, so determined to restock my deplenished herbs I sat out to the fabulous Rainbow Gardens. They were doing soo good too :( What an adorable and community based nursery! The staff was so helpful and being new to the game I loved the uber-informative signs that were paired with each and every herb there..no simple sun symbols here..real words describing each detail you'd want to know when purchasing a new plant or herb. I picked up just a couple herbs while talking to a sweet and informative woman who worked there who told me of a great sale that is starting this week. She also informed me of their rainbow 'bucks' available there and also informed me that a small group of local farmers will start selling some of their things once the weather gets warmer. Lots of their herbs are provided by local farms as well. I love any place that supports local and would much rather give a place like this a few more bucks as opposed to a big box store. In the end, its much more affordable than buying fresh herbs everytime you need them...but make sure to bring them inside when there's a threat of artic blast coming your way. read more

Since 2007, I have never had a bad experience with Rainbow Gardens. Today I walk into the Thousand Oaks Dr. location with an old Groupon that states, "The amount paid for this voucher ($12.00) with Rainbow Gardens NEVER EXPIRES. The promotional value expires July 31, 2010." I continue to spend a good hour and a half picking out the exact plants I need for my project. I expected to get a 'cocked eyebrow' look for having such a dated Groupon however, knowing how friendly they have been in the past I figured they would still live up to their end of the bargain and at least honor the $12.00 I have already paid them. No no, that is not what went down. I talked with the manager who made me feel like an idiot for even dealing with Groupon. Yes, I know the Groupon was old but, it was a contract with who's terms, they agreed. Plainly put, I just had twelve bucks, stolen from me. And there was a lady ahead of me who was having issues of her own with R. Gardens about something, I will let her, hopefully comment on. read more

Purchased my first plant from them just for my window sill and the staff was very helpful with picking out the pot and helping me set up and everything. A wonderful hidden gem of a nursery! I can't believe I haven't been to Rainbow Gardens sooner. I have gone twice now, gathering bushes and plants to replace ones that died during Snovid. Staff are very helpful, even though they were all very busy on both visits. On my first visit, my credit card fell out of my pocket. I didn't realize it until I was checking out with Lots of plants! The staff helped me put my plants aside and I got another card from my car. In the meantime, a staff person found it and turned it in at the front office. I don't like leaving bad reviews but this was a bit far. It was my first time there and I was super excited, I'm new to gardening. A young man helped me with where to get my wagon and where I could enter. No one else helped me from that point!! THAT was not my complaint. I figured it out and decided I'd ask friends a research anything else I needed. Went to a register outside to check out.....she had already closed her card reader. She was nice, asked me to go on the inside to check out. I lugged the wagon in for them to tell me they didn't know anyone was still there, they would hold it for me until morning.......no.......after A LOT of what shouldn't have been, another young lady agrees to check me out. Of course, NOW I'm angry. Another young lady proceeds to tell me for future references, I should watch the time while I'm shopping for when they close....yes at this point I angrily respond that maybe next time they should make sure all of the customers are gone BEFORE closing the register. How about if any of the 6-8 of them had helped me, they would have known I was there!!!!! What if they actually used the walkie-talkies to communicate what was necessary. How about an apology for the way things were being handled? She called her manager in because she grew concerned because I raised my voice!!!!! What if you call him to correct the error and inconvenience you've created for the customer?!? Better yet, how about you just check me out like you could have done as soon as I walked up?? Ive been coming to Rainbow Gardens every weekend now for a month and half. All the staff has been exceptional except my girlfriends and I experience with an older gentlemen with a ponytail yesterday 08/08/20 around 4:15 - 4:30. We were looking at Crossandra flowers which Rainbow Gardens mislabeled by the way calling them Cassandra's to fill our terrarium and we were smelling the flowers. My girlfriend had her mask on while i unhooked one side so I could smell the flowers because I've had 2 broken noses and after a few minutes with the mask I can't smell anything. I have a lot of cartilage build up in my nose from multiple breaks and my passages clog easily. An older gentlemen working there with a pony tail rudely told me to put my mask back on even though I was outside in the open air with only my Girlfriend and I around no one else. He broke social distancing guidelines by getting close to my girlfirend and I. He told me to put my mask back on and I explained I'm trying to smell the flowers were about to buy. He said he had to wear his mask all day and so could I. Last time I checked I was the buyer and you were the employee and I would like to know how the flower smells thank you very much. He could of asked at least why I had it unhooked. If that was the end of it fine but it wasn't. I hooked my mask back on cause at no point did it ever leave my face with the exception it fell off at one point while i was smelling the flowers and i was holding it in my hand, and we looked some more. We walked into the main room to buy some moss and my girlfriend loves cats. We noticed they had two and my girlfriend was fawning over them. The same man with pony tail made another snarky comment about the cats know when it's closing time basically telling my girlfriend and I to get out. I don't know if that was an owner or employee but that was terrible and we won't being going back to Rainbow Gardens for awhile at least. We have been fighting spider mites with our garden and upon inspection we noticed spider mites on some of their products and calcium stains on plants due to the hard water they are using. I am gonna state here we only found a few that had mites and I'm not recommending to not buy from them, it probably just happens cause its a huge garden likewise watering all those with filtered water is probably costly. Like I said the rest of the staff is AMAZING! but this one man with the pony tail has ruined our experience at rainbow gardens for the time being. read more

I LOVE this place and will definitely be going back for all my plant needs. They have beautiful plants at affordable prices and the BEST customer service! Every person in there was so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! I was on a budget so they helped me find the cheapest pots and soil and didn't try to up sell me on anything I didn't need.
