The plant shop carries a wide variety of plants and has a strong overall selection. The staff is very knowledgeable and able to answer questions clearly about plant care and options. Inventory looks well maintained and organized. Based on the selection and service, this will likely be my new regular spot for plant purchases.
Elton is my main plant squeeze! Ha. Honestly, there's tons of plant shops in LA. It can feel overwhelming AT FIRST! Rainbows been good to us! Been coming through the last 8 years! Even bought plants for the office from here and when my Pops wanted to buy a outdoor bamboo and Elton didn't have the type we wanted he actually went OUT OF HIS WAY to find another nursery in the valley that has it in the stock and sent us there! Elton is a super informative young man, attentive, listens to your needs and suggests accordingly! This is TRULY customer service at its finest, especially if you want plant advice or need to go the extra mile. I typically come here for my potting needs too as Elton is ONE OF THE FEW individuals in the industry who'll help you put your plant in the right pot (based on the type of plant, it's need and your specific plant care habits). I've got majority of my cute pots and stands from here! I truly, truly hope they're one of the businesses that end up back on the map since Covid 19 was devastating for many local businesses! I can't wait for Rainbow Nursey to resurface again! I'm sad post covid caused Rainbows to temporarily closed but DTLA oversaturated plant game simply ain't the same without Rainbows playin' the field.
So happy I found Rainbow Nursery. I've been searching for a tall, full Aralia Fabian with multiple branches, and this one was perfect. I also found a tall Aralia Black, Hoya linearis, and a few other beautiful, rare plants that were all healthy and stunning. Elton was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about plants. Great pricing and a wonderful experience overall. This place is truly a gem.
Thank goodness for this plantshop! It's an inexpensive, no-frills plantshop that's located in Chinatown. It's crazy to think that I had been here before as a kid when my parents used to come and buy plants here and now I've come full-circle and shopped at their very plantshop to buy my own plants! I love seeing that this shop has been around for a generation! I ended up buying three small plants to take home for my own plant journey. I'm excited to see them flourish in my home. A huge thank you to the gentleman who helped me out at the store. He was so informative and educational and helped me select the plant that was right for me.
Plant shopping was part of our LA weekend trip. We came in on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Yes, we stopped by at this shop twice in this road trip lol! My friends found themselves in plant paradise! Plants: The plants seemed to be well cared for as the leaves appeared lush and alive. The price overall was extremely cheap. My friend was surprised that a pot of Alocasia Dragon Scale retails for less than $20, while back home in Vegas it's around $50. We ended up loading the car with at least 8 pots from this shop that Saturday alone and came back Sunday morning for more lol Service: The employees were friendly and knowledgeable. Card was accepted as a form of payment. They have boxes to carry the plants and pots in. They offered us refreshments while we shop :) Parking: We parked at Dynasty Empire Mall parking garage. There were also open parking lot on the corner of N Spring St. and Alpine St. for $4, and parking meters to the front of the shop. Highly recommend!
WOWIE WOW WOW!! 5 stars is not enough. I cannot say enough good things about Rainbow & the people that work there ESPECIALLY ELTON! I moved our offices last week and once we got everything in I knew we needed some plants...and fast as we were having meetings on Monday. Rainbow not only answered my email Very Fast on a weekend. Elton and his team curated plants for our whole office and delivered them SAME DAY in DTLA. He went above & beyond. The selection of plants, the pots, everything is amazing. Everyone comments on the money tree when they walk in & we got every desk a little plant & it truly made the space feel like home. There is NO DOUBT we will be using Rainbow for all of our plant needs. Thank YOU Elton & team!!!
This place deserves 6/5 stars! The person helping me let me know about their rewards system and I told them I had been there before but was never set up so he added points for me based on my last purchases. He was very friendly and told me how to properly care for my new plants. I always feel welcome here and their plant selection is amazing! I now became a regular!
One of the best places to get plants in LA. Period. This place looks deceptively small, but has a great selection of plants. Last time I was there, I spotted some rare ones like Monstera Thai Constellation and Philodendron Gloriosum. If you have a specific one that you are looking for but don't see it on the floor, I would definitely ask one of the workers to see if they have any in the back. I asked one young gentleman in particular, and he took the time to help me get them from their greenhouse even though the shop was busy with customers. Despite being busy, he took the time to explain care for my new babies so I don't accidentally kill them. 'Cause I've killed many. Sigh. Did I mention this place is pretty affordable? They have a loyalty program and offer certain discounts as well. I came out of the store with a haul of Philodendron Florida Ghost, Philodendron Gloriosum, a Albo Syngonium cutting, Calathea Musaica, and 2 4 inch pots of Philodendron varieties for under $80. Parking isn't the easiest as typical for LA. There is a parking lot for $5 right around the corner. Sunday has free metered parking so if you're willing to scope around the neighborhood, you can nab a spot.
I needed some plants to complete my balcony set up. I wasn't necessarily looking for Rainbow specifically but I stumbled across it kind of after looking up some places and seeing that Chinatown's outskirts had some solid places. There was one employee in particular I worked with who was extremely friendly and helpful but I forget their name. Everyone I interacted with was great, though. I am not sure how their selection compares to other places but they had enough plants to cause me to wander around for awhile due to my indecisiveness. They also have a good selection of pots and I picked one up to go with one of the small-mediumish plants I purchase. I also got 2 baby succulents (2 for $5) but the small saucers/pots are back ordered for another month. Including the yelp check in discount and the 5% off for joining the reward program (they just ask for your first name and phone number) I paid $28. They also validate parking for 1 hour if you parking in the Dynasty center lot.
The owner of Rainbow is the nicest and friendliest guy ever! Thanks Philip for taking the time to walk me thru the different indoor plants and the care process for them. I ended up buying three plants; the lucky bamboo, money tree, and tropical snow. I got a small plant on the house as a discount which is always welcomed. The prices were all super transparent and reasonable. I'm definitely coming back again this weekend to check out planters since I didn't realize that ceramic pots and stands were so expensive! Hope I find good ones! Overall, I don't think I'll go anywhere else for plants now that I've found Rainbow. Philip even carried my plants with me to my car. Great service all around. Support this locally-owned business if you can because they are all around awesome.
This is the spot to go for all you plant lovers (and first timers like me too!). As I was strolling around being indecisive, Elton came to my rescue. He was incredibly helpful trying to find me the right plant stand while working with my budget. I also overheard him help another customer deciding what type of plant to get and it's care needed. On top of all that, he has the more cheery attitude that just makes you feel very welcomed. He made it easy for me to sign up for their rewards program despite the fact that I don't come out to Chinatown too often. (But because I did sign up, I left my phone number where he was able to reach out to me when he found my dog's shoe. This is a complete side story, but I lost my dog's shoe and was walking around looking for it but gave up. A few hours later, I got a voicemail that he found it!!! He was so kind to walk out to my car when I came to pick it up as well, so I wouldn't need to park. Elton, you're seriously the best!) Anyways, even if he didn't just find my dog's missing glass slipper.. I would still give this place more than 5 stars if I could just for their selection and friendly customer service. I was so happy going home with my new plant stand and a plant. I will definitely be back even if it's a bit further for me. Note: They validate parking for the garage next door. This is a huge plus considering how difficult it can be to find parking in Chinatown. read more

This is such a hidden gem! I grew up in Chinatown and have passed this area countless times, but I never took notice of this shop until my friend told me about it. The store is located on Spring street, right next to the Gold Line station. The front of the shop is unassuming, but make sure you walk towards the back where all the beautiful plants are! They have SO many affordable plants and cute designs for planters. I've been searching for indoor plants/planters at Home Depot, Target, and Amazon.. all of which are overpriced. I bought my two plants (one small and one medium size) and two planters for less than $80, which included the Yelp discount. BRING CASH! I think you might get another discount if you don't use a credit card, but I could be wrong.. Most importantly, they have staff who are really friendly and aren't pushy, which I appreciate. I really dislike shopping in Chinatown sometimes because some store workers are super persistent about making you buy stuff and if you don't they get upset. But Rainbow is a genuine business and the younger gentleman who helped me was knowledgeable. When he didn't know the answer to my questions, he went to ask the store owner or his coworker for suggestions/recommendations. I appreciate their honest business! They also validate for the parking lot nearby or there's also street parking. Overall, I'm in loved with both of my Ruby Rubber and Snake plants! It's amazing to see an authentic Chinatown family business thrive in this time of gentrification! It makes me so happy! I'll be back for more plants! read more
Been really into greenery lately and wanted to add some color to my office and make my apartment a bit more inviting. The staff here are very friendly and knowledgeable. I was previously at a nursery closer to home but I didn't like that there wasn't a person in sight to assist me. We drove out of our way to stop by Rainbow since I knew the price was very reasonable and the service was great the last time I visited. They have a wide selection of houseplants. I do not have a green thumb whatsoever and I was looking for indoor plants that do not require direct sunlight. I was assisted by Elton and he recommended me several plants that fits my requirements. I ended up getting a snake plant and a parlor palm for my desk. He went above and beyond and went through their inventory to make sure I got the healthiest plant. He explained the care instructions for both plants. I was looking for a planter as well and he recommended several that would go well with my parlor palm. They did not make me feel rushed whatsoever. I highly recommend this place and am definitely coming back when I'm looking for more plants. read more

Centrally Located (Chinatown) Cons: 1. Pricing 2. Location I live near Culver City. I spent more time getting there than I actually did shopping. I bought a Fiddle Leaf Tree, Snake Plant and an Aloe Plant. After discounts I spent approximately $70 and was initially quite pleased. However, Home Depot has similar offerings but with planters included for the Fiddle and Snake. The Fiddle seemed a little less robust at Home Depot though. I gave Rainbow 5 stars because it's a little gem of a shop and will be going back again for the hard to find plants. Otherwise, I'll be shopping at Home Depot for basic plants. read more

I also got into the indoor houseplant craze during COVID. I've shopped around at different nurseries, and Rainbow is always the best in consistency: healthy, cheap, and selection. I've bought a bushy fiddle leaf, Monstera, various pothos, dracaena and more. Pricing varies depending on the size of the plant, small $5-$10. Medium $15-$30. Large up to $40- $100ish I believe. read more

I absolutely adore this little shop!! I've been looking for a place to shop for a new indoor plant, but wasn't looking to drive to Hollywood and spend $100+ on plants. So I stumbled onto Rainbow in Chinatown. It's located on spring in Chinatown, but luckily on the street stalls instead of actually inside the mall shops, so it was easy to find. They had dozens of gorgeous indoor plant options and every person that talked to me to help my shopping experience was super friendly. I ended up getting an algaonema plant about a medium size for $15!! Super affordable and healthy. Also got a planter and a stand for roughly $30. I can't wait to come back to buy some more table top options! *street parking in the front& also validation for the parking lot for 1 hour. read more
If I could give more stars I would! Rainbow is my favorite place to go plant shopping! Hands down, PERIOD. A little shop tucked away in Chinatown is everything you will ever need. Elton is the absolute BEST. Impeccable service from him and the rest of the staff. Shoutout to Michelle too! Always helpful when Elton is sharing his tip with the busy crowd. If you have any doubts in diving into to this they can direct you to a plant you are not going to kill on your first try. I appreciate all the knowledge gained here and I will always recommend this place to people. One thing I love here is the price tags have care tips which so helpful when you get come and forget what they said. Plants are happy here and they usually have little baby leaves waiting to give you some luck. Great pricing - one of the best I have ever experience. They have a wide variety and every week there is always something new to add to your collection. My advice is too look everywhere - even look up at the ceiling they have plants all over the shop that you might miss. In the back they have a great selection of pots. Their pots & stands are super cute I want them all... They range from about 12-40 bucks? I mean reasonable if you ask me. Do not skip out on this place if you are looking for plant babies. You will not regret spending an hour in here. Because, I can and have spent over an hour in here!When I decided I wanted to become a plant mom this is one of my first stops. Honestly for 2 months straight I came every weekend. Couple times, I came twice in one weekend... No shame in my game here. Being a plant mom is a serious addiction. I have no regrets. After having lunch in Chinatown, my bf, brother and I decided to stop by Rainbow after seeing awesome reviews on Yelp. We've been meaning to get a few more indoor house plants and Rainbow has a great selection. On a Saturday afternoon, we had a little trouble finding street parking so we parked in a nearby parking lot two blocks away that charged $5/day. The shop is super stocked full of so many different kinds of plants. Elton and Linh are both super helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about all the plants. They can speak English, Cantonese and Vietnamese. Don't hesitate to ask questions and don't forget to look up and if you're interested in the trees/plants up higher - they're happy to explain watering and care tips about all the plants they have and also help bring anything down to let you have a better look. We saw a great fiddle leaf fig tree that we wanted to take home, but we still have to evaluate our space and decide what size we want. Ultimately, we decided on a robust rubber plant that's great for purifying the air in a perfect corner of our bedroom and two matching snake plants as air purifiers for my bf's parents night stands. Extra thanks to Elton for helping us repot the rubber plant in a larger pot to take home too! read more

A great variety of pots/ plants. Green thumb or not they will help you fine the right plant for you. Nothing compares to Rainbow Qualities. Freshly stock live plants arrived daily, with the best quality around town. This is the place where I would recommend my friends, family, co-workers, and everybody else who are looking for plants. On the other side of plants, they also sell trinket, buddha figurines, other displayable items to make your place stand out. I highly recommend Rainbow to Locals and Visitors, anybody visiting L.A. chinatown. Go stop by. Family and Friendly staff. FYI. RAINBOW IS THE ONLY ONE AND ORIGINAL SHOP TO CARRY LIVE PLANTS IN L.A. Lots of variety of healthy and affordable plants. Much cheaper than Armstrong, HD, and Lowes. They can be crazy busy on the weekends, but the employees are always friendly and willing to help. Join their rewards club and you'll get some $ off your future purchases....you can use right away or save up the $ you earn...and if you check in on YELP, you'll get 10% off. My only complaint is they don't have prices on most of their plants or pots. I wish they can write on the planted pots with a sharpie and/or on a piece of tape so you don't have to find a person to ask. Oh! I know it's a problem and some are hesitant to buy in these alleyway like businesses around Chinatown because of the bartering and price quotes provided. It is common practice with stores that charge differently depending on the person who ask or who you ask, the day, etc, but one of the best things about this place is they are consistent in their pricing and friendliness to everyone! The price is the same whether you're Asian, Hispanic, Black or White.... ..Also, there is a small lot across the street under the metrolink that charges $3 for all day parking. Highly recommend it. The metered parking (if you can find one) is 25 cents for 5 minutes and if your time runs out, its a $63 ticket... read more

Love this place! They have some rare plants here. Their plants are usually lush, and a great deal! Their pots are super cute, and fairly priced or such a good deal! Street parking available if you can find it. Parking lot is on same side of the place if you can't find street parking. It is 1 hr free when you buy something and get validated! New stuff every weekend! Got a watermelon peperomia plant this weekend that I've been searching for a while now! I am so happy! They got cute little money trees too .. they have money trees in all sizes. My friend got one for $7. Pathos joy & snow queen pathos. They also have string of turtles. Oh man where do I even begin?! This local family owned plant shop is definitely my favorite place to go when I am looking for a plant for myself or for my friends. They have very healthy & very clean plants and best of all, really great pricing. Also the manager Elton is so knowledgeable and patient. He will answer any of your questions in depth no matter how busy he is and will help you get the plant on that wish list of yours. I have been here about 5 times in the last few months and their service is always top notch. I was actually here earlier today and Filips was there unloading the new shipment. There was a group of us with googly eyes just waiting for him to unload these new plants and in this intense heat, he was super patient and kindly asked what we were looking for as he was doing his best to get all the plants off the truck. I can't say enough how great this shop is. I bring all my friends here that have joined the covid lockdown plant craze. It has become something to look forward to during these difficult times. And lastly in terms of covid preparation, all the staff wear masks and try to keep their distance when they speak to you. There is hand sanitizer provided and at the register and of course you can't enter without a mask as well. It is a smaller shop but everyone is pretty respectful of each other's space and tries to keep their distance. All I can say is that I'm so grateful that they are open right now because taking care of plants has become therapy/ healing for me. Thank you Rainbow! Oh wait one more thing...you can park in the parking structure and get free 1hr validation! Huge plus as well that parking is easily accessible in this busy area. read more

I have been on the lookout for rare plants. After seeing all the common plants you see at nurseries, you definitely want something different in your collection. This is the place to get them! Now I'm not the type to spend my time of day to leave a review.. EVER! (I think this is my first review)....but my time there was simply amazing. When I got there, there was a line on the side of the store to buy rare/exotic plants. As we were waiting in line, one of the staff members were making sure we were doing ok (I'm sorry I don't remember your name! She's a super tiny girl with long black hair and glasses). She was so sweet and offered us refreshments and even asked if I wanted to take a peek at the plants just to see what they had so I wouldn't be waiting in line if I didn't see anything I liked. Eltons selection was fantastic! He had a lot of anthuriums, Thai constellation monstera, PPP, alocasia and some philodendrons for a ridiculous low price. Some are already in LECA so if you're in that LECA lifestyle, you won't have to convert it. If you aren't, They will tellyou how and when to convert it. He limits one per person because he really cares about his plant babies and wants the plants to go to a good home and not just be sold online to make a quick buck. To top off the amazing prices already, they give you a additional 10% off if you check into yelp and also another discount just because! My boyfriend and I actually came yesterday and he lost his wallet. I asked if someone had turned in a missing wallet and he said no one did. But he then offered to check the security cameras to check and if he did find out if we lost it there, he would call me. I mean, most store owners would just say no and leave it at that..(we found it by the way!) But the customer service here is just great. In fact, he even apologized that we lost our wallet and gave us another discount on top of the discount that we were already receiving! Staff is awesome, plants are amazing. Rainbow offers the best plants, pottery, and price around in Chinatown. Their staff members, especially Elton, are all super friendly and helpful. They will try to find the plant you are looking for even if they don't currently have it at their store. I have bought a handful of plants from here and I know they always give me the best prices. Sign up for their rewards program to get extra discounts on all of your purchases. AND, they validate 1 hr free parking when you park in the garage behind their store. Tip: They restock every Friday, so go Friday afternoon to check out their new selection of plants!! read more
This place is such a hidden gem for plants and planters in LA. I actually live in San Diego, but I stopped by here when I was in LA. It's right next to Chinatown, so we stopped by after lunch on a Saturday. The store itself is small and very tight, but all the employees have masks on and are very helpful. I came in looking for the watermelon peperomia but they unfortunately ran out :( Instead I got myself a big 8'' planter for ~$17! It's super cute and I was surprised how affordable it is. Especially in today's plant raving days, I felt like the prices here were extremely fair for the quality. They have a large selection of plants inside and outside of the store. I'm kind of a plant noob, but I saw some really rare plants going for like ~$200??? I didn't catch the name though. They seemed to have a lot of other standard plants for standard prices too though! Anyways, their selection of both plant and planters is great!! They also told me to check in for 10% off my order, so that's a nice discount read more

I went to rainbow with $400 in my pocket thinking I would need to spend an absurd amount of money to liven up my home a bit. I was wrong. The team at Rainbow planted 3 big pots I brought as well like 6/7 little planters I brought. I was out the door for $135 bucks and they delivered to my house which was incredibly helpful. I've been to Rainbow Nursery several times to shop for small - large size plants and pots for housewarming gifts. They have a beautiful and reasonably priced planter selection. I went again this past Sunday to buy new planet babies to add to my new home. It was even better because I met Elton and he was beyond helpful. I left with a Snake and Tropic plant as well as 3 new planters (1 large size planter on legs, 1 medium size planter on legs and a table planter with drainage). Elton showed me his best plants in the shop and from the truck. He made sure to show me all the plant options so I can pick the one I like best. Once I decided on the plants I liked, we picked the planters and made sure the sizing was right. Elton is very knowledgeable. I had some plant related questions and he was able to provide solutions and when he didn't have an answer, he offered me to email the store so he can look into it for me. Elton and his team went above and beyond for a mom and pop shop. Another guy even helped me to my car. They get fresh plants weekly and planters biweekly. PARKING There is street parking. Sundays are free. There is a small parking lot just a few doors down and they offer validation for 1 hour. Shopping here was a 5/5 star experience! I'll be going back soon because I just can't seem to get enough of these plants! read more

It takes an impression of considerable magnitude enough to compel me weather the excruciating registration process to sign up for a Yelp account, just to be able to leave this review for Rainbow-- The first time I came by three days ago, I wasn't expecting much more than the typical (but equally charming) Chinatown plants/gift shops like the ones on Broadway, until I walked in an immediately saw the rarest-of-the-rare hoyas and the coveted ghost / dragon's bones euphorbia. On top of that? If you're a practitioner of Feng Shui, which I am just beginning to train myself in, you'll find every cure and activator, as well as altars and offerings, for every budget here. But that's not the reason why I came back today: I was passing by the neighborhood and decided to say hello to Elton and Lin, who the week prior, went out of their way to help me with plant selections and entertainment me with vibrant conversation ( as well as give me expert advise on both my Feng Shui techniques and share some plant care tips). What was especially heartwarming and made me feel like welcomed family was that they remembered my name, and was as excited as I was to be back in their shop. They are the Beyoncé of customer service . Like, they should drop a surprise album and lay down the law on what excellent, above and beyondcé service is. And the prices? They're so reasonable that I would have blown an entire paycheck there if I had more time to explore--last week I walked away with two rare hoyas, an ultra rare philodendron, a cute replacement for a philo I accidentally killed, and two Feng Shui cures i had been looking high and low for, all of which would have cost me 5-7x more at other places. Today? Walked away with another rare Hindu rope Hoya, two calatheas, and another rare silver philodendron (of which I already have 3 in my collection, but this one was just too cute to pass up). And one full disclosure that I hope will convince you to come and experience the excellence of this hidden gem and the people who make it what it is: I am an LA Flower Mart Badge Member (I live two blocks away from the flower district) and have access to at-wholesale prices and plants literally at my fingertips... ...and I can genuinely tell you that there will be nowhere else from now on I will be going to other than Rainbow for anything my indoor jungle needs. Even if they sold me a plastic plant, I'd still wholeheartedly tell them to take my money already!!! People like Lin, Elton and the rest of the Rainbow family deserve our support against the face of big-box, corporate plant-farms. They are pillars in this community, and I hope their roots continue to grow deep and that their success will grow for a very long time. read more

UPDATED: Still in love with rainbow. I have legit told every single plant person I know about them! I got these a little bit after I got my watermelon Peperomia and to be honest it's one of the most easy caring most loving plants I got ever. Elton helped me get this from the green house. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. They'll answer all your questions and they even go above and beyond to try to find you the nicest looking plants if you happen to be there during a delivery. I came during this time and asked for options so they happed into the delivery truck to show me everything that just came in. Super legit customer service if you ask me! They also have a free membership program and a current yelp check-in discount. Be sure to ask about it before your checkout! I will definitely come back for more green friends very soon!! read more
Seriously in love with this place!! First time visiting and I was blown away with the selection they had to offer. You can really tell that everyone comes here! Prices are unbeatable and the plants are super healthy. They have a great selection of pots as well. Two of the pots I chose didn't have holes and they were able to drill them for me. Looking for new plants? Please! GO TO THIS PLACE! Besides the wide selection of healthy and sometimes even hard to find plants, the people that work here are extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. We were all wearing masks but I can tell they are all happy and smiling. Elton is super helpful and gives all the care tips for everything I asked about. They're not pushy salespeople, they just really love plants and it shows. I've been here 3 times in the past week. I went the previous weekend and they had a good amount. It looked pretty healthy too, I've been told by the staff that they get new plants on the weekends. I even went to their truck to view the plants and it was seriously walking into a jungle!!
