Living in Southern California, having a good pair of sandals is almost as essential as having a good car. You want one that works, is in your favorite color, lasts years and is comfortable. Rainbow Sandals fit all of those qualities. I feel like people here have their favorites... you either like Rainbows, Reefs, Birkenstocks, Adidas Adilettes, Havianas, or whatever is cheapest or is on sale. I know whenever I say to a friend, "Oh, you're wearing Rainbows..." They always reply, "I love, love my Rainbows, I have had these for years...." Prices here for standard single layer and double layer (with arch) sandals are about 20% discounted from retail. In my book that's not a huge discount, but considering that Rainbow Sandals never get knocked down 30% or 40% or 50% in any store, 20% is a good deal. If you're going to get a few pairs, get them here. The factory store has more colors and styles in stock than you will find at any retailer. One catch is that they may not have all the colors you want the day you go. Come back a couple of days later and your color might be back in. I noticed this when looking at the blue leather sandals. Some sizes had them, others didn't. Basic brown, black and tan? Those are always available in all sizes. Leather single layers are $42. Leather dual layers are $45. There are lots more women's' designs than men's. Women can choose from different braids, 3x as many colors, sparkly ones, platform ones, skinny strap vs. fat strap while men get to choose form foam/rubber sandals, leather sandals, and slip on shoes. Before it used to be touted that every pair was made in the USA, in San Clemente. That stopped about five or six years ago when they shifted production to China. They still do repairs in San Clemente, but they no longer make them in San Clemente. I just got my first pair of leather China Rainbows. It looks like they did a good job on quality control because they look and feel the same when I put them next to the Made in the USA ones... I guess time will tell. Rainbows are on the higher side of the sandals price spectrum and have diehard devotees due to their durability and comfort. If you are trying them on for the first time, you will not find them comfortable. They are stiff, hard, and the straps are so tight that you can barely get your foot under them. Everyone will tell you that that is the pair you want to buy. All this quality and still you might not like them after you buy them. They are a b*tch to break in. For you to get blisters or rub cuts during the first few weeks from the tight straps are part of the process. Yes, you paid to get tortured. 9 1/2 Weeks... it's not a movie, it's the guaranteed amount of time until break in. You actually want tight straps because with wear, they all loosen up. The leather and foam start to conform to your feet while maintaining firmness. Once broken in, the sandal will still feel very solid and secure, but should also feel very comfortable. Then you will wear them for years. And you'll like it... because I said so! For Rainbow fans coming to this store, you will feel as if you are in Heaven. You aren't in Heaven, you've just reached the end of the rainbow and that's where the treasure's at! ***Tip #1 - If you are only buying one pair and you can find it online or at a store near you for retail price, it's not worth the time and the drive to save $10. You get your best value if you are buying more than one pair.*** ***Tip #2 - Check the stitching under the straps. One of my straps kept on wearing down my skin even after a couple of months. I kept on thinking it was the leather strap that just needed a little more wear when in actuality it was a bad/rough stitch bump under the leather strap that was causing the problem. It's so sad what has happened to this company. My first pair of rainbows lasted a decade before my foot started touching the ground, but, the most recent pair fell apart just after I broke them in. Maybe 1 year. Since that first pair, the quality has gotten progressively worse and the warranty less and less comprehensive. I imagine the old man who created those original indestructible flops is tired and depressed watching his legacy disintegrate with each new cost cutting "improvement." I was depressed looking at the artifacts on the wall reminding me of the days when a pair of flops would last 5 years of every day wear. I literally live in flip flops (slippahs for us Island people)..... so this store is every islander's DREAM. Not only is this a slippah outlet, IT IS THE PREMIUM OF PREMIUM brand which never breaks and has a lifetime warranty. I owned 4 pairs of Rainbows before this visit and they've lasted around 8 years apiece. When one of my BFF told me about this place, i said LETS ROLL. Like today. And off to the OC she and I went. This gem is located by the Rainbow Sandals factory and right off the 5 fwy, tucked away on a side street. There is limited parking in front of the store, but ample parking on the side streets. Upon approaching i heard the sounds of the slippah gods saying clat clat clat clat. I saw a huge slippah at the entrance and a Costco-like security lady greeting me and checking my slippah membership card. At the entrance was a "Rainbow graveyard" where u can donate ur used, worn and torn Rainbows for recycling (they also give you 10% off for this). I browse around the store and there is literally every sandal and moccasin that Rainbow has ever made. Womens, Mens, Kids, accessories etc. Overwhelmed by the selection I roamed outside where i found some REALLY THE BEST DEALS out of the entire store. Inside i also roamed to the Kids section where i found more slippahs in my size. They also have a selection of new as well as staple sandals at discount prices. WELL WORTH THE DRIVE, I was able to grab 4 pairs for $130 out the door. This is great considering each pair is $60 at any retail outlet! read more

I bought a pair of swarovski Crystal rainbows and paid 80 something dollars. I actually bought a pair for my daughter too!! I've worn my rainbows maybe 3-4 times and the the left side stretched out so bad I can't keep it on my foot!! Mind you I've owned rainbows for years!! I drove back to the store today (wearing a pair of older rainbows) and talked to the manager. He was a complete ASS and has no business being in customer service. He took out a ruler and proceeded to measure the piece that goes between the toes and said "there is nothing wrong with your sandles!!" I said measure it from the same points... which he didn't. A year ago I brought it in the store to get it fixed and they mailed it back. After a couple months the leather sole came apart again but since I don't live near the store, it took me awhile to get back to the store. BUYER BEWARE....the old days of quality rainbow sandals are gone. Severely disappointed with rainbow sandals and their lack of service. I have been buying their flip flops for 20 years and wear them exclusively. A recent pair of flip flops i purchased I wore for while and had the sole crack (see pics). The upper leather part also cracked and went to crap. Rainbow is (or shall I saw WAS) known for their quality and long lasting flip flops and this recent pair was crap and didn't last. For years I had heard how good rainbow was to their customers and standing behind their product. So I took them in and explained my issue. Their response was since they were worn I "got my money's worth" yet I have numerous older pairs with a lot more use that never cracked. This was obviously a product failed due to their use of cheaper quality materials yet charging the same price as the older better built flip flops. So after 20+ years of waring their flip flops I won't be purchasing any more. They are ok with their products not lasting and premature failure. The customer service as well is gone. read more

First time here. I made the drive from Long Beach to purchase 4 pairs of slippahs for each family member for Christmas. I ended up purchasing one for myself as well. I couldn't help it. LOL. Endless amounts of slippahs here. I felt like a kid in a candy store. Every style imaginable. Tons of styles I've never seen in any store before. Prices were good. Parking is available in the front of the store. It's a bit tight but manageable. Some street parking is available as well. Staff was nice. Store was clean. Like In N Out, Rainbow sandals are one of the symbolic Californian products that people recognize and associate with our golden state. Yet, I've never owned a pair until recently despite being born, raised, burger-fed in Southern California. I knew friends who had a pair, strangers who had a pair, and my own sister who owned pair. You could've literally dropped a pair of Rainbow sandals on my head and I wouldn't get it. I would go "why'd you drop sandals on my head?" and miss the point, then again why would you drop sandals on my head? Forget the sandals, you could've hurt me. What are Rainbows known for? Lasting forever and becoming ultra-comfortable after you break them in. They are not cheap as these sandals are a long-term investment. Nearly all of their sandals are outsourced to China, but I think their quality does hold. If the sandals were cheaper like being under $40, especially since they're saving money manufacturing in China, and not so hard to break in when you first wear them, I think they'd be the perfect sandals you can possibly buy. I got blisters on the side of my right foot and between the toes where the strap is as I was breaking my pair in. -------------------------------------------------- QUICK TIPS: -------------------------------------------------- # The classic Rainbow sandals are the single layer 301Alts. They're $46 for the single layer and $49 for the double layer, tax included. # Most of you should choose single layer sandals as those feel like ordinary sandals. Double layer felt like elevator shoes to me and I didn't like it. # When shopping for sandals, choose your favorite color then check that they fit perfectly. Remember that when you break them in, the sandals will stretch a little. While my left foot fit perfectly, the back of my right foot barely stuck out and my right foot just felt tight overall. I still bought Mediums and that was right because after breaking them in, the length of both feet end a little before the sandal's edge now. # If buying "made in California/USA" matters to you, you can tell by looking at the Rainbow logo imprint on the sandal soles. Most sandals will have the "Rainbow" logo while some will have "Rainbow USA". As I looked them over while trying to remove the (Chinese-manufactured BTW) sticker I noticed a chunk of rubber missing from the heel of one sandal. The sandals get a 5 star review and the customer service 1 star. The sandals are super comfortable and durable (if they are purchased new). I recommend not purchasing a pair from their clearance rack. The signs clearly say no returns, exchanges or warranties on clearance product. Totally understandable, purchase at your own risk. However, from my experience, I purchased a pair from the clearance rack and after a month of use, maybe worn 5 times at best, the straps broke at the toes. Went in to see what they could do. After talking to a counter person and a manager, I was rudely told there's nothing they could do. I could have sworn I heard him, the manager, yelling for me to leave from the back room. Got my very first pair here just last week. I used to be very opposed to getting rainbows because everyone had them. But they are worth the investment! One nice thing about this outlet is that whatever price is listed in the store includes tax! I ended up getting a double layer thicker strap dark brown color. These costed $45. Normal retail price of rainbows anywhere else is $55-65ish plus tax. The single layer rainbows were $42. And don't forget: as everyone else said- bringing in your old rainbows to donate gets you 10% off. If it's really crowded, don't worry too much, there's plenty to go around! I highly recommend checking their clearance items as well- it just might not be in the color you want for their selection. For example, they might have a pink colored sandal of the kind you wanted, but you'll pay $30 for that pink one as opposed to $50 for the color you wanted. Many of my friends have had their rainbows for several years. So far I can see why everyone likes them- but warning: if you've never owns rainbows before the first week or so of wearing them you'll feel soreness in your toes because the sandal is conforming to your foot shape (if you have a high arch foot, medium arch or flat foot). And the strap will be chaffing your foot initially when you are breaking them in. Don't get them wet and they should be lifetime flip flops :) read more

I've come by here several times over the past few years. The store has extended their weekend hours, and many folks come by here for better deals on the everlasting Rainbow Sandals. Their prices are slightly better than what you may get in retail stores. Parking is ample on the street, although their front lot is small. They have everything everything here, including those items you won't find in most stores. It all starts with their robust leather single layer and double layer flip flops to rough-use ones. Either way, people eat these things up. They're not going anywhere, and neither are the flip flops. I have yet to see one break down, and they have the insanely high mark-up to prove it. In my opinion, if you're in the area and really want a pair it's worth checking out at least once. Many tourists and locals frequent the shop for better deals, but if you're at least 30 miles out I wouldn't bother. I've worn Rainbows for a decade or more. Love the style and price. Recently, they changed their Cloud line...and I waited for the new ones to come out. I go in to try on a pair and the straps are now significantly looser on the new pair. I try on their classic single layer leather. Same thing... So my option is to pay $15 to shorten the straps...ok...lame, but whatever. I wait for a call...nothing...another week goes by and I go into the store. Apparently the owner saw my sandals and put them back on the rack because they were new. Thanks, buddy. The Small size fits sizes 5 to 6 1/2. But the strap seems fit for 5 or 5 1/2 only because for my 6 1/2 feet the strap really feels like it's squeezing them. I had a pair of the one strap braided sandals and the toe strap tore making the sandals unwearable. I took them to the outlet today assuming they would either fix them or offer a new pair per what I read on their website (pasted below). "The Rainbow® Guarantee is for the lifetime of the sole. Yes, obviously, because I wear them. However, there was nowhere on the sandal that was completely worn through. Once I pointed that out, his reason changed to they wouldn't cover it because the entire tow strap didn't pull out (2 little strings were left in the toe part). I was also told that the braided ones don't hold up as long because it's a leather Toe strap, not nylon. Well, if this keeps happening, I would imagine they would change that part of the sandal. The excuses were endless. While in the store the short time I was there, I witnessed two other people complaining about the same thing. They more or less for the same response as me. Another one complained about cracks (which according to their website are also covered) and she was told well ya that's what happens when they get wet and dry. So lesson learned is that the "lifetime warranty" is not what it comes across to be. If you choose to buy rainbow sandals, stay clear from the braided ones as it is clear from multiple people, and another review a few down, that they will not last long. read more

SELECTION: these are my 3 favorite models for guys 1. my go to has always been the DOUBLE LAYER CLASSIC LEATHER ($51 tax included). This pair lasts for yrs and feels amazing once broken in. It does take some time to break in. If you've never owned a pair of rainbows, get this as your first pair. 2. Newer model - DOUBLE LAYER LUXURY LEATHER ($69 tax included). I've recently switched to these as my favorites as the leather is a bit nicer and less break in time. I ranked it 2nd bc of how pricey it is and not being on sale even at the outlet. 3. HEMP DOUBLE LAYER ($37 tax included). These are super soft and have no break in time. Price is great, but they don't last as long as the leather pairs. PRICING: solid discount. You're not gonna save a ton of $ here, but rainbows almost never are on sale at other retailers, so any savings is good. STAFF: always great customer service and friendly staff MISC: donate your old pair of rainbows and you'll get 10% off a new pair (employees will check bottom tread - so don't bring some pair where half the bottom of your foot is showin thru) OVERALL: Bought my first pair of Rainbows at this outlet back in high school and have never bought a pair elsewhere.
