I can't remember the last time an employee went above and beyond for a customer. The two guys that assisted me were great. I wish I got both of their names, but I only got one: Cisco. He will be unforgettable. Cisco was generous and charitable with his time and knowledge. I wanted mocha braided double layer Rainbow's. They were sold out in my size but Cisco said they could shave a larger size to fit my foot. I would have never known otherwise. They still didn't have the mocha in a larger size so the single layer was sufficient enough for me. I was checking out when Cisco told me that they're having a sale on a different color of the same style. I wouldn't have known this either if Cisco hadn't told me. Got my sandals 3 years ago and don't wear as often as many Rainbow enthusiasts, so when I noticed the strap had lifted I was super bummed. I had always heard Rainbow sandals were indestructible. They have a Guarantee but the store would not honor it very cheep materials and no customer service . They have the ones made in USA here in store, they have a small section dedicated to it but they also have some of them mixed in with the other sandals you just gotta look, it's itdentifies by the stamped in rainbow logo on the footbed the USA ones are clearly marked. I mention this because I've found the locally made ones to start out a bit more butter soft, squishy, and comfortable than the non USA ones. The non USA ones take a little longer to break in (I'm sure you know about the break in period, it can be brutal). Buy them as snug as you can stand cause they loosen up a decent bit. I made the mistake of sizing up my first pair and after they broke in they would basically fall off my feet when walking. Only available Monday through Friday 8-5. After that chargers are turned off. No explanation given for this policy change. Used to be a convenient location between San Diego and LA. I would make sure that my family and out of town relatives always had a pair of $50 flip flops to remain loyal to the company that provided a terrific service to EV drivers. They have a huge selection and you don't have to worry about them not having your size. Service was good, and I got in and out super fast. Parking isn't the best but that's pretty common. Quality and service has gone way downhill since my last review. I purchased USA-made sandals in June, and, six months later, the soles are coming apart. I sent them in for warranty replacement. A week later, I received a letter stating, "Even though a true manufacturing defect is present... the manufacturer's warranty is voided since your sandals have a non-covered issue." The non-covered issue they are referring to is a slightly frayed strap. The threads on the strap came loose (another manufacturing defect), which caused the fraying. I'm really disappointed. My wife made a return and bought a couple new pairs. Great service. She has sensitive feet but these sandals are always very comfortable. This is our third visit to the outlet, and we'll definitely go back. We got 2 pairs anyways and noticed after we had purchased it and had it adjusted that the sandals had huge scratches and fraying on the sides, then the color did not match, wish we noticed sooner! We were still in the store, when we saw how bad the sandals were, but cashier stated that all the sandals are handmade and there are flaws. He refused to exchange or help in any way. It's truly sad when even Rainbows customer service has changed, can't stand behind their product and can't accommodate long time customers. My partner and I have been coming to this store for some time. Recently, he had a problem with a pair of sandals, so we brought them to the store. As I was browsing, I overheard an associate getting really irate with my partner, and speaking so loudly, making the statement, "you wore these outside too much and it voided the warranty. Look at all this cracked leather!" And when he tried to respond to what the associate was saying, interrupting him loudly, "wear and tear! Wear and Tear! Wear and tear!" We just wanted to have the shoes repaired, even outside the guarantee and we would have to pay for it. the shoes weren't particularly old or anything, so it was worth it to us to fix it. The associate made it seem like we couldn't even do that in what they were saying to my partner. I went over there to understand what was going on, and when I heard some inconsistencies from the associate, I pushed back on what they were saying, referring to the well known guarantee of the sandals, and posing the question, "are these indoor shoes?" I also mentioned that their guarantee language did not comport with what the associate was saying. The associate responded with a shocking level of aggression. Clearly this sort of attitude shuts most customers up, as this associate was so comfortable with being so aggressive immediately when my partner first spoke with them. Every single time I tried to respond to this person, they just kept interrupting me mid-sentence with a level of aggression that was overboard. I expressed that they kept interrupting me, so how could they possibly thoughtfully respond; and that they didn't seem to know what they were talking about because they were talking in circles. Their response, "no! YOU keep interrupting ME! And I know what I'm talking about, I've worked here for six years!!" Now I understand that retail is rough, and consistently explaining and defending company policies is not pleasant. However, one cannot respond the way this associate did. One cannot offer less than decency, it's simply inappropriate. I was so disturbed at this person's conduct, I had to leave the store. My partner remained and when he finished with the manager at the register, another customer began confronting him in the store and followed him outside and after hearing we drove there from San Diego, started yelling that we don't belong in San Clemente and to get out of her town. Rainbow employees (both inside the store and standing outside) did nothing to intervene on that customer's verbal assault. We are people of color and my partner is an immigrant, and we get enough of that talk by people here and there telling us to go where we came from. So to be assaulted in front of rainbow employees by someone apparently self deputized to police San Clemente city limits just added injury at that point. Overall, we were understanding of their policies once the manager, Francisco was able to explain their position intelligibly and without the frenzied tone. However, the level of behavior that was allowed to transpire in the store by associates and customers alike was astounding. Given, a proprietor can not control everything their customers do. But my goodness, when a customer verbally accosts someone else in the store, follows them into the parking lot, and starts talking about who belongs in what spaces, it's cowardice not to even bat an eye. It was made clear that some customers are respected at rainbow while others are not. The associate said their name was Reese (or perhaps spelled Rhys) when asked. Rainbow, please educate your employees on how to adequately convey your business practices moving forward. Repeatedly shouting "wear and tear" is not how any conversation with a customer should start. read more

I actually did not know that the Rainbow sandals are originally from San Clemente, and this location is the original flip flop factory, however, they only are able to make a minimal amount every month. It says it's a factory store, I'm not sure if their prices are that much cheaper than buying them outside of a rainbow store (nordstrom..etc). There are A LOT of options for men and women. I actually didn't know they made kids and babies slippers, and also have shoes and boots for adults. The staff is really helpful. The prices in general, for flip flips can be considered a little $$, but considering they back their flip flops with a lifetime guarantee (as long as you don't do anything stupid to ruin them), they might be worth it. We ended up getting two pairs, and after wearing them all weekend camping, they're broken in and have easily become my go-to and favorite pair of flip flops. read more

The prices listed are the "out the door" prices, because tax has already been included. If you're still balking at the price and thinking "meh that's not much of a discount", I strongly advise you to reconsider. These sandals are the best ever! The materials used are extremely comfortable, durable and the design is iconic and very attractive. They guarantee the sandals for life, and if anything were to happen to your pair, just bring them in and they'll fix it for you! They have the most padding out of any sandal on the market, and over time, the sole will literally mold to your feet for a perfect custom fit. The double layer is totally worth it because it'll give you the "I'm walking on clouds" feeling with each step you take in them. This store is very well organized, clean, and adequately stocked. If you're unsure of the sizing, there's sandals glued to boards bolted into the floors for you to find out what size you need to get. Their sizes are S, M, L, XL, and these span the entire range of the normal shoe sizes, so rest assured, they'll have a size for you. They also carry a nice selection of loafers. The overall selection of sandals is kind of daunting, you'll probably spend at least 30 minutes walking around to see everything and the hardest part is deciding what color and material to go with. The sandals come in rubber, hemp and leather and will last you years! The workers are very friendly and eager to help. I wanted a pair of double layer in dark brown, but they didn't have my size. One of the guys got on his phone and texted someone and a few minutes later a girl walked out of the back of the store and came back with the pair I needed! It was like they have people working in the background and I feel like my pair was assembled on the spot for me. If that's the case, then holy crap, I'm very appreciative of that kind of level of service! The have a donation bin out front for your old pairs and there's various pairs that have traveled extensively around the world have been framed with notes from their respective owners. People treat their broken in sandals as badges of honor, and I do the same. They also help you offset even more of the cost of your new pair by giving you 10% off if you donate your old pair. It's kind of sad when my Rainbows start to show their age. They may look old but they're still as strong as the day I got them, and it's just an excuse for me to go get another pair. After almost thirty years of supporting this local business, I will never shop here again. They have missing signage in the store resulting in wrong pricing being placed above a group of sandals. People who aren't from California might not understand our obsession with flip flops. We love our flip flops. We wear them everywhere and devote ourselves to our favorite brands with fervor other parts of the country save for Nascar or, I don't know, reading books. Our family's flip flop is the Rainbow Sandal, and if you haven't made the trip with your kids to the outlet, you are missing out on a slice of Orange County history... and 25% off all sandals in stock. Simple and comfortable; these sandals last and last and last. Rainbows have been around since 1974 when a surfer named "Sparky" started making them out of his garage in Laguna. I'm sure no one really took "Sparky" and his whole "Flip Flop business idea" seriously back in '74. But, now they make over 1,000 Rainbows a day behind their San Clemente Outlet and the brand is recognized as one of the leading manufactures of the flip flop. A trip to the outlet is an annual activity for my family. Each kid gets to pick out two pair of Rainbows-which will be worn almost exclusively all summer. "Where are my Rainbows?" is a question I hear at LEAST three or four times a day in the summer-and to which I always reply, "Exactly where you left them." A mandatory deep sigh follows with optional eye roll. Spending time at the outlet is just as much an event as getting the flip flops. They offer free popcorn and stickers to the kids and have three ginormous Rainbow Sandals in front for the kids to sign and make jokes about the size of their Dad's feet (but maybe that's just our family since Larry sports a size 16). One of my favorite things about the outlet is the old, thrashed flip flops they've displayed on the beach-shack-like walls; most with handwritten letters detailing where those sandals have been in their lives.
