So first off let me just begin me and my family of three decided to take a trip to Hawaii on a whim, my 14 year old daughter included we were unsure if we were able to do this because we had no prior experience, So to begin our family vacation we decided to book scuba diving lessons with ken at Rainbow scuba . This was the absolute best experience ever. Ken was very upfront and open with us and the risks that come along with the experience good and bad I'm not gonna lie I started to get scaredLol ... Ken was a amazing instructor and made us feel safe he was extremely very patient. I am so glad we booked with Rainbow scuba . Kens instruction even helped us through the trip when we went snorkeling because we learned how to clear are mask from water please book with ken I promise you this is a must do !!! Hands down you will not get this experience anywhere else... mahalo and thank you from California

We chartered a boat for snorkeling with three kids. It was a great experience. The guys picked an awesome spot, were super helpful, excellent with kids, and ensured we saw lots of fish and turtles. Highly recommend!!!

Magnificent time exploring the ocean with Ken & Jeff!

My husband and daughter are certified Padi divers. I booked them on a private ship wreck dive with Ken and Jeff. Ken & Jeff not only make a living from the ocean they grew up in Hawaii. They understand the delicate balance of man & marine life. They want to give every patron a memorable experience while respecting Hawaii's waters. They offer group beginner dives & if you want something more challenging try a private tour that can be customized to your needs/desires. The ship wreck dive is amazing. Ken & Jeff are professional, fun & put safety 1st. They spent time making sure my husband & daughter knew what to expect upon jumping in, answered any questions & made sure they were both comfortable. They saw a moray eel, giant turtle, octopus, parrot fish & schools of vibrant beautiful fish!!! We highly recommend diving with these guys. Mahalo Jeff and Ken!

Wow, what an experience! This was my first dive, and I'm so happy I chose Rainbow Scuba! Ken was amazing and incredibly accommodating. We had 2 first timers, 1 certified, and 1 who had gone through the training but did not complete certification, so a rather diverse group. Ken made sure all of us were able to have a fun, safe adventure. It was also reasonably priced. The weather was pretty sketchy, but once we were down beneath, it was great! My husband did a 120' dive down in the Sea Tiger, and the rest of us did the Kewalo pipe. Sea turtle and eel sightings. We will be diving with Ken again should the opportunity to return to Oahu present itself.

Highly recommend Rainbow Scuba!!!! My two friends and I wanted to try out scuba diving for the first time and couldn't possibly ask for a better experience. We felt safe, educated, and definitely we will be returning to dive more in Hawaii with rainbow and dive in other locations with the skills and rules we learned. It felt like a private scuba lesson which was amazing, no big boats full of people which allowed more scuba time (less waiting for other people etc like some other scuba tours) A van picked us up from our hotel and during the ride Ken our instructor explained to us our basic rules and basic skills that we will need to remember and do. When we got to the boat we geared up and he asked us again to repeat our rules and skills. We got into shallow waters and Ken asked each of us to test out our breathing and "mask clearing" he was great at reminding us to equalize once we got into the water and as we were descending, We saw a sea turtle, lots of fish, sea snake, and various eels. All in all this was a great introduction dive that really positively opened the world of diving to us! Thank you Ken and Brian !

Incredible! I went as a beginner and learned a lot about myself and scuba diving. Got sea sick a bunch of times but I should have been more prepared by taking Dramamine since I knew I get queezy on boats. It was an experience that I am so glad to have had. Marc was our guide and he was great and took some amazing photos. Swimming with the sea turtles was the best. Wish I could take one home with me!

I completed my classroom and pool portion of the PADI Open Water Diver course in California. I was ready to complete my four ocean dives in Honolulu. I spoke with Ken on the phone. He was welcoming and reasonable, compared to the other local dive schools. Price includes tanks, regulator, BCD, wetsuit, mask and fins. Once I signed up for the dives, I was sent a confirmation email. One day prior to the dive, I was sent a reminder email. For someone who is a bit paranoid (did it go through?) and a bit forgetful (when is that dive again?), these emails were much appreciated. My husband (already certified) and I met with Ken on a Friday and Saturday during high surf advisories. Not your ideal scuba diving conditions. However, I was on a mission to get certified. Ken was honest with us on what to expect during our dives (low visibility, surge, etc.). My husband and I decided to push through. Ken provided us, along with three beginner divers, an hour-long instruction. Everyone's questions were answered. His primary concern is everyone's safety. Ken checks everyone's comfort and commitment to continuing on the day's dives. Once everyone gives the go-ahead, we were off! Ken took us to two dive sites. On the way there, we spotted a turtle swimming. Turtles are my favorite! He made sure that our group knew the basics before descending further (clearing our masks, regulator clearing, and regulator recovery). Friday's dives was a refresher of all of the skills I learned in the pool two weeks prior...except now I was in the ocean surrounded by sea life! On Saturday, it was a different group of people. There were two other students and another diving instructor. Ken gave an one-hour instruction to the students prior to going on our dives. We started the same as the first day, where we went to our first dive site and Ken tested us on the basics. (On the way there, we saw a monk seal swimming. Cool!) Long story short, I passed! :) Overall, I recommend Ken and Rainbow Scuba. Ken is knowledgable and fun. Although the dives were not the ideal scuba diving conditions, we made the most of it.

    Mahalo rainbow scuba!

They were awesome! Lots of fun to be around and still professional. They said they usually take on groups of four but we came with three couples and they had no problem taking us all down at the same time. They just had to take an extra instructor with us so everyone was taken care of. Ken and Jeff were great instructors. Just make sure you pay attention when they show you what the hand signals are because it's quite difficult to communicate under ground level for people who are so used to just using their mouths to communicate. Scuba gear is really heavy and kind of difficult to handle when you first get into the water but once you relax and take your time breathing you get the hang of it. They took us to two locations. The first was a bit more cloudy but we saw so many creatures there. My group saw a whole bunch of schools of fish, a baby shark and a huge turtle that swam away before we had the chance to take any pictures with it, sadly. The second location was a bit less exciting but really clear waters. It was beautiful down there! There wasn't much action but towards the end we saw an eel and an octopus! The best part is that they take pictures of you while you're down there and post it on Flickr by the next day! Free if charge :) Well worth my hundred bucks!

My son and I went scuba diving with Ken and Jeff. The experience was great. This was my second dive, but my sons first. He felt uncomfortable and he had a mishap on the skills test on the first dive, they encouraged him to try again, but did not force it. The dive itself was great and they take free pictures, which is a bonus. They are very safety conscious. And the instruction given was so much better than what I had before at a place in Cozumel. I highly recommend going diving with them.

I have scuba dived all over the world, and the professionalism, kindness, and fun energy from this crew really stood out. My husband attempted to snorkel, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure he felt comfortable despite his fear of the water and worries about seasickness. A huge thank you to Patrick, who showed incredible patience, kindness, and the perfect bedside manner while helping him. It meant so much to us. I originally chose Dive Oahu because I met their team at a scuba diving convention and immediately fell in love with the generosity and positive vibes they brought to their booth. Every year they treated me like a long time friend. When I finally dove with them in person today, that same family atmosphere was there with every single staff member on the boat and in the shop. After this trip, I can honestly say Dive Oahu feels like family now. A special shoutout to Captain Adam for his incredible hospitality both at conventions and on the boat. He brings the perfect balance of professionalism, humor, and genuine friendliness that makes you feel welcome the moment you step aboard. I also want to recognize Jeff, who was teaching a Discover Scuba Diving course on the boat. Watching him work with his students was impressive. He was professional, attentive, and clearly passionate about helping new divers succeed. His humor and relaxed attitude made it feel like meeting a long lost friend. And of course thank you to Jacob (aka Sir Fabio), our scuba tour guide, who did an amazing job guiding us through the reefs. He found nudibranchs, eels, and some absolutely gigantic sea turtles, and made the dive both exciting and relaxed. From start to finish, the entire experience was fantastic. If you are looking for scuba diving in Oahu, snorkeling tours, discover scuba experiences, or reef dives with a professional and friendly crew, Dive Oahu is the place to go. I hardly write reviews but their considerate and meticulous service made for an unforgettable experience. Many companies offer discover scuba lessons in Oahu so I called a few to understand the itinerary before making a decision. I spoke with Toby, he welcomed all questions and gave an honest glimpse of what the experience would be. He was also courteous enough to let me know that they might reschedule our reservation in case they don't have enough people to meet a minimum for the boat. This did happen but the company let me know this promptly well in advance and even followed up to remind me about completing e-learnings etc. Fast forward to the day of the scuba and my mother & I met with Toby and the captain on Diamond T II, their boat along ala moana. The captain did a quick lay down of the safety instructions and Toby walked us through the nuts and bolts of diving - key skills, sign language, etc. The crew split us into parties of two each. The sea was a little choppy and I was feeling a little sea sick so I asked the cap if I go jump in the water till the first pair finished their training and dive and he even gave me snorkeling gear!! This was a great way to kill time and also get a preview of the dive ahead. The cap also encouraged my mother to join me and despite her fear of water, she felt at ease in doing so. This half an hour was unexpectedly enjoyable as we were able to interact with some marine life and my mother felt more comfortable being in water. We then got into our gear, which was labeled, super clean and hygienic, and proceeded to do our training session with Toby in the water. This was the highlight of our experience as jumping in a water can be pretty daunting with heavy gear, especially if you run into tricky problems like water in the mask or your regulator. Despite my mother running into these frequently, Toby was incredibly patient and relentlessly made an effort to do her skill training without rushing her. Unfortunately, she was feeling pretty sea sick and also tired by her time in the water so she decided to pause but Toby and I carried on into the water. We spent a serious amount of time close to the ocean bed, Toby was alert yet let me free roam in the water so I gained some confidence too. I was surprised by how clear the water was and we saw plenty of fish, it was magical. On returning, I found out that my mother got sick on the boat so the cap helped her with a pair of goggles, some jelly, and light humor to alleviate her motion sickness. The crew was highly aware of most passengers feeling sick so they expedited our return to the waterfront. I fail to see how this experience could've been more enjoyable and how this crew could've been more considerate to first time divers. Thank you so much for this!!

At the end of this month, I am traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii with my wife and five-year-old daughter for vacation. I reached out to "Aloha Scuba Diving Company" (www.divealohascuba.com) a PADI 5-star IDC, inquiring about their dives. We exchanged about 10 emails, where they offered me to do a Wreck Certification. In those emails, we went over the dates, time requirement per day, dives, and cost, among other details. After a lot of negotiation with my family, they allowed me to step away from our time together, to go diving for a couple days. Based on the information Aloha Scuba Diving Company provided in those emails, I coordinated with my wife and scheduled the rest of our vacation (booking activities with my family, rather than going scuba diving by myself). After booking the rest of the activities in our vacation, I emailed Aloha Scuba Diving Company and they asked me to call the shop to make the payment and confirm the booking. Yesterday, I called the shop, and they took my credit card to confirm the booking. After the call, I received emails confirming the booking and notifications from the credit card company confirming the charge. The first thing that happened was that they overcharged my credit card compared to the price they quoted me on the emails (even when during the call I pointed to the specific email with the price they had quoted). I called back and they offered to do a refund for the difference. A few minutes later, the same person I spoke to called me, and told me that all the information that was given to me in our email correspondence was wrong. He told me that there was "some miscommunication" and that the certification required more days, more dives, and that they would need to increase the cost they had quoted. I told them that I had booked my whole vacation around the information they had provided and that they should honor what they told me. The person on the phone said he would talk to the dive shop owner and let me know. After we finished that call, within 2-3 minutes, I received emails cancelling my booked course. I immediately called the shop again to find out what was happening, but they just did not take my calls. I followed up with an email asking for an explanation, but they did not reply (again, all this within minutes of them taking my credit card, confirming the booking and calling me trying to charge more). In all my years of diving, doing so in multiple countries, I had never faced this situation. They clearly do not understand the commitment (cost and time) that going diving requires for a diver traveling with his/her family where they do not dive. I am taking precious time I could spend with my wife and five-year-old daughter, creating memories, for the diving certification. I also planned and booked all other activities around the information they had provided by email. When things are written, there is no room for "miscommunications." The fact that they tried to overcharge me (even when over the phone I pointed to the email where they quoted the price", and after catching their intention to overcharge, they started coming up with these additional days, additional time, additional dive, and additional cost required, is absolutely unacceptable, a deceptive practice (bait-and-switch), and disrespectful to someone that is booking a whole vacation around this activity. I always book my diving with shops that are listed in the PADI site because it gives me the peace of mind and certainty that they are established dive shops that abide to PADI's Quality Management Practices, Safety Guidance, and involving qualified personnel. This is the first time in all these years, and diving in multiple countries, that I find myself in this situation. Do yourself a favor and avoid Aloha Scuba Diving Company at all costs.
