Now the bad news: It took NEARLY TWO HOURS to get all the dishes we ordered! No joke. The final dish--arroz con pollo--took so long to come out, that we simply asked the server to wrap it up so we could take it home! No explanation was given as to why our 5 dishes came out one by one over near two hours. The restaurant was only about 3/4 full, and certainly something like arroz con pollo is far from exotic. It was a shame to have had this experience, because the food was good. But who can sit for so long waiting for each dish to come out!? Very disappointing. And here's the kicker: we were served a small basket of chips with salsa. When we ran out of chips (which didn't take long with 5 people and not much food being served) we asked for more chips. The server actually said they would have to CHARGE US for more chips! Are you kidding? Do they not realize how much good will they lost for a nickel's worth of chips?? We were outraged.

The food had NO flavor whatsoever - it's as though there was a different cook, it was quite bland. The woman at the front was not friendly, even as I greeted her with a smile and said goodbye with a smile. Still the same unfriendly stance. This is not the same woman I came across a month ago that was friendly. Note to the owner: How you greet your customers makes a huge difference! I have to say how disappointed I am, the food was delicious the last time I was there and now just inedible. Also the curry chicken had chopped small bones, so be wary if you're going to order this dish. I hate to say that I doubt I will be returning and will make the drive down to Asbury when craving Caribbean food. You will find that El Capitan has two sections with one for ordering and the other being the dining area. The blue-and-orange walls give the dining area a warm, inviting glow, and the straw roof décor gives you somewhat an immersive experience. The brochure features the El Capitan logo, which consisted of a cartoon shrimp mascot holding up a plate with a taco in front of a beach. I do think the mascot works, but the taco was blurred and the realistic beach photo added too much information to the logo. Wait Time: 4/5 Although I experienced no issues or delays, the wait did feel pretty long to the point I started to question whether they took my order. Ambiance: 3/5 I spent a duration of my time within the dining area of El Capitan cloistered away from the rest of the flea market. Shockingly, the noise from the outside did not intrude upon my eating experience too much from the wooden wall. Instead, you will mostly hear Mexican music throughout your dining experience. I did notice an unclean napkin at my table, which did ruin the ambiance somewhat. The seat and the table did not have much of a problem for me, and plenty of space existed between the tables in the dining area. The food selection on El Capitan's menu basically involved traditional Mexican cuisine with a special emphasis on seafood. My limited Spanish knowledge could only decipher which of the menu items were consistent on the multiple menus that exist either on the walls or in the brochure. Food: 5/5 I ordered the chicken chimichanga. The form of the wrap held quite well, requiring me to really cut into it with a knife. Stuffed within the wrap, the chicken had a well-cooked slough, and the seasoned rice gave it a robust zest. The sour cream upon the chimichanga gave it a warm taste, and the green and red salsa gave it spiciness. Every bite, from the ones with the meat to others with only the wrap bits to others with just the rice, managed to fill me up slowly. The chicken chimichanga definitely represented El Capitan in a positive way as a major staple of Mexican cuisine. While I did wait a while, I will say that the chimichanga managed to make the wait worth it. The chimichanga managed to give me a positive mood throughout the day. The service behind making this dish put a lot of care into it, judging by the preparation with the sour cream on top and the sauces on the bottom. Service: 5/5 The staff ensured that I would receive my order, clearly understanding English and asking me specific questions about my order, whether I wanted chicken or steak chimichanga, and if I wanted it to go or to eat there. I had a good first impression, when I admit I had apprehension about going there since I never went there before, with the service making me feel welcome. Nothing about the service try my patience, for they still managed to make a good dish. I can see how the dining area would become an important part of the business, since it could accommodate many people despite being a small spot. As such, the service prioritize that space and the food. Cost: 5/5 Despite the numerous menu items that might confuse anyone, I would absolutely want to return and try the different menu items, whether the tlayudas or the empanadas. My personal suggestions are to have a consistent array of menus on the walls and on the brochure, and to show the brochure logo more often since it would attract more customers. From the food to the dining area, they work the most for the establishment despite its short space. Considering the size and authenticity of the chimichanga, and the experience going there, I will say that the price was worth it. There are also some sides available. I always got oxtail. It's good, but a bit pricey for the amount of meat you get. Others have ordered the pepper steak before and the portions for that are great. The rice is definitely on the salty side, but is good overall. I do appreciate that the lady working there is always generous with pouring extra sauce on our rice as well. We also tried the tres leches during our last visit and would get it again. It had the perfect texture and sweetness.

I ordered chicken fajitas and it came with corn tortillas and cilantro spread over the top, not a fan of either. I was able to remove most of the cilantro and when I asked if they had flour tortillas the gentleman that was waiting on us had no problem switching them out. Once that was sorted out, the food was delicious. Next time I go, and there will be a next time, I now know to ask them to remove the cilantro! Give it a try you will be glad that you did!

I'm so glad we did. The food was absolutely amazing. The host was extremely helpful and pleasant. The place was extremely clean and well decorated.
