Ada's Gojjo has an interesting concept. I never saw a restaurant that served Ethiopian and Dominican food in the same place. I visited this restaurant with a good-sized group of women from a social club that I'm apart of. The restaurant isn't large, but they accommodated us. I ended up getting the chicken empanada as an appetizer, but I went with Ethiopian food for my entree. I didn't really care for the empanada much. It could've used a little more flavor, and the filling was more on the dry side. I had the Doro Tibs for my entree. It came with my choice of two vegetable sides. I got the Kik Alitcha and Gomen. I wasn't too crazy about the Doro Tibs either, but I loved the sides. We met the owner of the restaurant, who was very nice and excited to interact with our group. I was happy to support this black-owned business, especially during the holiday season. I would return, but I would probably stick to the vegetarian dishes because those seemed to tickle my fancy more. read more

Another lovely dinner to cap off a wild work week. I was hosting one of our consultants again and a group of us decided to decompress after two days of hard work. I try to experience new restaurants and cuisines each time so that my guest leaves with a favorable impression of NJ and we get to put money back into black owned businesses and other business of color. This time around one of my co-workers recommended this Ethiopian spot and I was delighted to learn no one in my party had ever had Ethiopian food. This place is interesting because they serve Ethiopian and Dominican food. It actually worked out nicely because two of us got the Ethiopian and the others the Dominican and we shared bites. Overall the food was pretty good. The beef empanadas were stellar and I loved the two gomen I had. Portions are...restrained which is great because I wasnt too stuffed to walk as I usually am after eating Ethiopian. My friend did not enjoy her mofongo - texture was strange to her. The person who had never had Ethiopian cleaned his plate. Service was outstanding and I'd go again just for that. Tables were good. I requested the 1/2 booth 1/2 chairs for my party and it was ready to go when we walked in. They do not take American Express so be aware. Free parking was available at the far end of the strip mall. This was an amazing last-minute fine. We needed a quick dinner while we were in the area. We were able to sit outside. It was relatively quiet although right near a train station so just be aware of that. Service was quick friendly. Food was delicious. My favorite was the cabbage. Not a fan the second time around! I came here last summer and was blown away by the food but this time, I was sadly disappointed both by the food and the service. We ordered the shareable vegetarian platter and they gave us the incorrect vegetable entree. Upon informing them, the waitress came by and scooped it off of our shareable platter after we had already started eating. It was pretty strange to me because I thought they would take it back to the kitchen, replace the entree and bring it back out. I felt like that was poor service on their part. Ada's combination of Ethiopian and Dominican food is unique in our area. Although Ethiopian food is traditionally eaten with injera bread instead of utensils, a knife and fork always appear . Use them in combination with the tasty injera. Try the vegetarian combo platter for two with six different choices including lentils, collard greens, and split peas. On the Dominican side I like the chicken stew and empanadas but plan to explore further in the future. Ada is always attentive and patient with those not familiar with the menu. And her coffee was terrific. Unlike some more traditional Ethiopian spots, Ada has regular tables. Check it out in Asbury Park. read more

A friend thought this would be a great experience since this is a mash up of Ethiopian and Dominican food. I'm always happy to try new things so was down. The staff was not wearing masks which concerned me but we sat outside which helped me feel a little better. The meal started strong. The Vegan Yucca Cakes were delicious. They are also a great base to put some of the Ethiopian food on. The Vegan empanadas were okay. Could use a little more flavor. We were able to order the Veggie platter with all 7 of the vegetable options. My favorite Ethiopian dish is Gomen ( collard greens) but I could tell these were frozen greens that were cooked up. I'm accustomed to fresh so that was disappointing. The other dishes were okay. I was confused about the beets on the plate but I appreciated the salad addition. This was only my second time trying Ethiopian, and the first was so good that I wasn't sure if this could measure up, but it was delicious! I had the Mesir Wot, Gomen, and Tikil Gomen. I think the Gomen was my favourite but I would totally recommend all of these. I love how this kind of food is very flavourful but at the same time easy on the palette and the stomach. The injera had a nice texture and was the perfect size to scoop up all of the vegetables. I also got to try a maduro from someone else who ordered a Domincan entree - it was really good with a crispy caramelized exterior. I also had the Tamarindo drink. It was my first time trying this and I really liked it. I didn't expect it to be so thick but I thought it was much nicer than drinking regular juice with a more watery consistency. The restaurant didn't look like much from the outside but the interior was actually very classy. They even had live music getting set up as we were leaving. The place seems to be family-run, and I think the story behind how they came to have the Ethiopian-Dominican combination is cool. The two servers/hosts that helped us were young and didn't seem the most experienced, but they were very polite, helpful, and attentive. I was also impressed with how fast the food came out considering we were a group of 5. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and come back all the time if I lived nearby! read more

We visited Ada's Gojjo back in mid-June after morning at the beach with quite an appetite. The place was pretty and clean, the ambiance was authentic. There were plenty of vegetarian options. We ordered the empanadas and the entrees to share. The food was fresh and delicious. The service what is put us off. Our server seemed disinterested and clumsy. The food is pricey, which we didn't mind, but when we asked for Injera we were told there are only limited in stock and they needed to saved for other orders (note the place was not very crowded). They charge for additional injera's btw. not like we asked for anything free. In addition, while placing the food on our table, the server was clumsy almost like she was going to drop the food. The indifference bothered us too, overall not a pleasant experience. While leaving the lady at the front desk was nice, but it was too late given the service we had received during our lunch experience.
