Friday night, ordered the 1/2 slab of baby backs and they were fantastic! Super moist, Smokey and fell off the bones. I would definitely come back for the ribs. The sides were very bland. Corn on the cob had no butter, salt or any seasoning at all. The cole slaw was very mayonnaise's and had zero seasoning. If they stepped up their sides this place would be 5 stars for me. The sandwich comes with fries which was a bonus. Total order was under 9.50 and for the portion size it was good. I was expecting a hamburger bun but the bread was a nice hard shell, adding some texture to the soft pulled pork. Well.. let's start with some positives. Quick prompt service , served pretty quickly. When I accidentally ordered the wrong item, quickly fixed the order. Portions are quite large. Ordered the 2 ribs and pulled pork, and mashed potatos and Mac and cheese for the sides. The sides were awful. Potatos were bland, zero seasoning , wasn't the right consistency. The Mac and cheese was super salty and looked really dry. I love Mac and cheese but this one left me desiring more. The ribs were decent. Tasted like BBQ, fell off the bone and was moist. The pulled pork was pretty good. Mixed with some BBQ sauce. If the sides were made better.. might improve the menu. read more

I had my first taste of raining bbq today with my father and we were not disappointed. We had the brisket sampler, the chicken+pulled pork was good, but the brisket+pork ribs were awesome! The prices weren't outrageous compared to other spots, and the we could tell there was some care done with their food. They did a great job with my sampler platter tonight. I wasn't planning on eating there, but the cooked meat from the BBQ out back smelled so good that I was drawn in. Service was quick and friendly. Was out looking for some good BBQ in SW Portland (which is a quest all in itself) and tried Raining BBQ & Grill to see how it was. There were some good qualities, but many not so good ones. Compared to some of Portland's excellent BBQ places, almost all on the east side, Raining isn't in the same league. First, the good things. Nice friendly people who provided quick service. (It was a rainy, Sunday mid-afternoon. No one else was there.) I had a brisket platter with coleslaw, one chicken thigh, and two sauces: Chipotle and Habanero. The portions of brisket and coleslaw were very generous. The chicken thigh was kind of skimpy. The brisket was lean, as I had asked for. Now for the not so good. The brisket and chicken were extremely over salted. If you have any concerns about sodium and your blood pressure, do not eat at this stand. I'm 75 and would not come back for that reason alone. But, alas, there's more. The brisket had a char, but not the good kind of rich, dark brown/black crusty kind. The meat was juicy but on the side of too much liquid. The brisket also tasted too much like, well, just plain brisket. Not BBQ brisket. It didn't have that good, smoky, barbecued flavor. Same for the chicken. The biggest flavor they had was --- salt. The coleslaw was fine. Just coleslaw. Nothing special. The sauces were pretty good, but disappointing in that they seemed more appropriate for Latin food; they didn't taste like barbecue sauces. The Habanero, by the way, was very hot, to the point of overpowering the flavor of the meats. The Chipotle was fine. Overall, this is not much of a barbecue place. Friendly people who seem to earnestly want to give you well cooked meats but it isn't true barbecue. For that you still have to go east, like to Matt's, Botto's, and the like. Next time I'll head that way. read more

There was basically nothing redeeming about what I got here unfortunately. The mashed potatoes are obviously previously dehydrated and flavorless. The Mac and cheese was also completely flavorless and mushy. The pulled pork had way more fat than I'm used to seeing in pulled pork, the bbq sauce looks and tastes like it's straight out of the bottle and the meat itself wouldn't have been very edible without it. I took two bites of the sides and could only savage half of the pulled pork, the rest went in the trash unfortunately. read more

The fries and drink with Siracha/ketchup dip round out a great meal at fast-food prices. Now to be balanced: If you are a big time Mac and Cheese foodie, there is a cart that specializes in that very thing in the same food-cart pod. Having read the negitive reviews, I suspect that the writers did not bring their complaints to the owners. What do cooks and comedians have in common? We depend on feed back. Ive been here 3 times and each time was amazing. first i tried the ribs and they were the best ribs ive had in oregon. They were juicy tender and the sides were also very good. The last 2 times he had a brisket sandwhich special which i hope he keeps permanently because it is the best. Me and my girlfriend both love it and have gotten it twice so far, its huge and he puts on a ton of brisket with a side of fries. the food is great and who i assume is the owner has been nothing but nice.
