I agree with the other reviewer that the service has declined. We've been coming here for five years and have made some great memories--especially with my kids. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was disappointing. I got a dip manicure, and the next day, the tip of my thumb peeled off, with the other thumb chipping soon after. I went back and appreciated that they were kind enough to fix both. But just two days later, while on a flight, the entire top of the same thumb peeled off again. My teen had a gel pedicure, and within a week, only three toes still had polish. We're incredibly disappointed, and sadly, I don't think we'll be returning. read more

Pay ATTENTION to your reviews, they mean something.... I've been going to Rain Lily for 6 years and unfortunately the service has declined over time. The organic products used in the beginning are no longer and the manicurists, specifically the woman I've been working with is always in a hurry, she seems rushed and anxious for the next customer. In the past few years I've addressed issues of incidents I wasn't happy with regarding services at Rain Lily but all I've ever received were excuses or justifications rather than acceptance of errors or an apology. On one occasion my finger was burned when I put my hand in the nail lamp because the manicurist had left gel on my skin. When I brought it to her attention, she said "oh that's okay", NOT okay, it HURT, my skin was BURNED! During another visit, I mentioned to the manicurist the nail polish coat was too translucent and that there was not enough coverage. I was told by her, "no one will see that", I SAW it and that's why I'm telling you! On my last visit, I came home with air bubbles on 6 out of my 10 gel nails. Their work has become rushed and sloppy, the attention to detail and care for their clientele which was present in the beginning is now non-existent. If you are out of stock of a certain nail color please tag the sample nails so your customers are aware and don't waste their time or yours when making their color choices. Communicate with your clients properly, grunting and motioning is not a professional nor courteous way to communicate. The staff seems to have no problems when communicating amongst each other in Vietnamese but are extremely rude when communicating with their clients, why? REMEMBER THIS: DON'T RUSH YOUR WORK! I got my nails done for Thanksgiving with my daughter. Neither one of us will ever go back. She got a Gel manicure and 8 of her nails had bubbles in them. I had a regular manicure and when she was finished it looked like my nails had grown in for 3 weeks, the polish was only 2/3's the down my nails. We went back the next day and the manager agreed that they did a poor job with our manicures and offered to redo them. They were better but not great. I asked her to file my nails, no clippers. I turned to talk to my daughter and the woman clipped 3 nails down to almost the base of the nail bed. I was really unhappy with her little smile when I turned to look at her. I gave them 2 stars because the manager was very nice, other wise I would not give them any stars. For Christmas I went to Diamond Spa and was VERY happy with my manicure and pedicure. I've been coming to Rainlily for a few years now and am always happy with their quality of service. The salon is bright and clean, and the staff are always very sweet. They offer complimentary beverages as well! I usually go for regular polish manicures, but recently I've been getting gel with designs. Both times they were done by the owner Sam (he's typically the one who will do more elaborate designs) and he is AMAZING! He has incredibly steady hands and always takes his time to make sure the design's done well. Very friendly and keeps you informed of the process. The price point is great as well compared to other salons. Both were $52 (+$5 for gel removal), which includes their most basic $20 Pure Mani, $17 gel polish add, and $15 for the design. You can also email photos of the design you want to them for a quote. I believe they recently renovated and got a lot of new polish as well so there's a great color selection to choose from! My new favorite nail place. I've been about 6-7 times for pedis, gel manis, and dip powder manis, and have been holding out on writing a review. It's official- I'm in love with this place. The staff is skilled and super polite. The establishment is clean and super hygienic. I also love that you can make appointments through their website online. Other fun stuff: -They offer a complimentary drink each time, which is nice. -This place also frequently updates their inventory (or so it seems) with the latest trends and seasonal OPI stuff. -They have 2 LCD screens that are always on Food Network and HGTV. I could not find the one recommended by my friend and nobody could help me find it, they did know where or which one and no time. The technician did ok but my nail polish looks horrible, worse than if I did it myself. She put 2 layers but you can see the pink of my nails under it. Cheap nail polish. I was in the area and had some time to kill. I had decided to get a gel manicure because I have a holiday party and a wedding to attend this week. Bonus my nails had actually been growing out and currently at a decent length. I called right after Rainlily opened to get an appointment before 10 am. There was no problem there. The place, however, did get busy but they seemed to have enough people to accommodate. I got a gel manicure which I have gotten 1-2 times before at other establishments. I like it because it lasts longer but it can be harder on the nails. Anyway, it was a different process than I was used to because she trimmed my cuticles and filed my nails, painted them with the gel, and lastly did the scrub and massage. Usually, the scrub and massage are done before the painting. My overall impression was the tech was super nice and talkative. She seemed a little rushed at times. My nails look pretty good so no complaints there. I wish there was more emphasis on the scrub and massage portion. read more

My friends and I made reservations for mani pedis for 3 of us. The pedis were fine and they sat us together. The manis were another story. They weren't able to seat us together- which is fine. But they rushed through my SNS dip manicure and filed my long nails down to nubs. They also did a really sloppy job on the color. Not surprisingly, they chipped 2 days later. I have been getting SNS for the last 2 years and typically it lasts 2-3 weeks. My nails look awful. So much so that my friends have commented asking what happened to my beautiful nails. I really like the people at this salon but my last two manicure/pedicure visits have been barely adequate in quality and the prices have gone beyond reasonable for the quality. The polish never lasts beyond a day despite making sure I let them dry for half a day without putting on socks or overly washing my hands. The bottles of polish look really old and the last two times, the nail stylist added thinner to the point that it took almost 8 hours to fully cure/dry and there was polish on my cuticles so on day 3 there was a visible crack between the nail and top of the painted cuticle. Went back to Diamond Spa. The people are just as nice; there aren't 6+ "upgrade" price options; and, the quality for price is more consistent. read more

I am disgusted by how people are so selfish and say "the massage chair was broken" "no one offered me a free drink" They always offer complimentary drinks and their water always comes with lime! lol I feel this salon does a great job at keeping up a conversation, quality manicures and quality pedicures, they take their time and make sure you're comfortable! Yes nails chip/peel because that's what happens- but I have never had service less than outstanding here anytime a nail chips or peels the next day because I bump it or scrape it on something they are happy to retouch it up and they never complain. The employees are hardworking and sweet and I enjoy coming here all the time. Ignore any bad reviews you may see- they are from quite ignorant people. I think I may have found my favorite nail salon in NOVA. I looked this salon up from yelp, and although it did not have many reviews, most were very good. The salon is easy to find, a small, but easily accessible parking lot. When you walk in there is a WALL of polish. I think probably the best selection of gel polishes I have seen yet. They have a menu of teas and beverages you can select from. All the techs are very nice. I had Tina, who was awesome, and did a great job on my nails. Afterwards they do TWO hand massages. One was a scrub, and the second was an oil massage, with a hot towel wrap at the end. They have a large menu of services, all the prices are VERY reasonable. Finishing up my first pedicure ("comfort pedi") right now. I have very much enjoyed the experience! The place is very clean and pristine. As soon as you walk in, their foyer has a big selection of (organic!) polishes that you can choose from. My specialist, Monica, was attentive to detail and gave me a great massage and scrub experience. They offer you a drink in the beginning, and their greeter/front desk associate is very friendly and sweet. The decor is pretty cute--dried flowers and wick. The first thing I noticed, apart from the foyer, was how clean and new the massage chairs looked as well. I appreciate that they have disposable plastic liners in their foot bath tubs, so I know my feet aren't gonna end up potentially soaking in some water with a previous patron's nasty foot fungus or something. The tv's are right in front of you as you are getting your mani/pedi (usually HGTV or food network, i presume). Very relaxing atmosphere. The employees also don't try to talk about me--they actually mostly kept to themselves and were quiet, apart from asking me how I'm feeling or if I need something adjusted. read more

This is an absolutely amazing experience. I splurged and got the $45 Lily Pedicure and it is hands down with the extra money. I love that they use single use plastic in their pedicure tubs so you know they are clean and sterile for you. I received foot scrub to get rid of my dry skin, a scrub with either salt or sugar (I forgot to ask) a oil massage, a paraffin wax treatment, and then another oil massage with hot stones. I swear I was massage drunk. The atmosphere at Rainlily is on par with any upscale location and there service is heads above anywhere I have been around here. I will absolutely be back. read more

I had requested to buff my nails in addition to painting and my nail technician looked at me funny and told me "no." This place was too overhyped and a complete let down before even leaving. I know I am a picky customer but somethings should not be overlooked. The front desk is super professional and I felt excited after making my appointment. Once I arrived, I was still excited but once the gel manicure was completed that pretty much went out the window. The edges of the nails were not filed down or smoothed over and the cuticle was not cleaned up thoroughly. I even asked for a nail file and was given one without even being asked if there was a problem or if anything needed to be addressed or fixed. Inconsistent experience. I like them a lot but the last 2 times have been terrible. Disappointed with the lack of consistency when you get different people. My last pedicure truly looks like I didn't have anything done! My gel manicure is awful. Technician asked me if I wanted my nails shorter. I said yes. But he chopped them off! Badly. He nail clipper was not cutting and he kept pulling on the nails. Once he cut 2 of them I had to let him continue with the others super short too. I had polish on the skin of my fingers, some are not completely covered with polish (I chose a light color this time which I guess is better and less noticeable), my nails were uneven and rough. I got home and filed my nails to make them smoother. I seriously wanted to just go and not finish my manicure. To remove the gel he left the foul and cotton on for so long that my fingers started to hurt! I took the foils off my fingers! The whole experience was just not good. Came back from the salon today and while my daughter received wonderful service and a great job with her nails, my experience not so much. I hate feeling this way and leaving a review such as this because I feel like I am living in an alternate universe. First off, my nail tech had his mask under his chin so his nose and face were all exposed, hovering and sniffing over my feet. He was also coughing and had a runny nose over my feet most of the time and afterwards, he went to the back to hack some phlegm after he finished with me. He should not have been able to come to work like that in the first place! He even then took off his gloves to paint my toenails as well. The pedicure was rushed, my polish was poorly done and he didn't even do a good job cleaning up the edges he painted over. I came home and redid the polish and hours later started feeling some pain where he scrubbed too hard on my heel as well. Just horrible. I spoke with the receptionist/owner, Sam, about the unmasking issue, just for the sake of future clients after me. He did not seem particularly concerned or responsive, perhaps just a pat sorry without much validation or eye contact - so I surely did not see a reason to bring up my bad pedicure job in addition to this! I sometimes feel like had I been white, and a Karen I would have gotten a better response. Just from experience, Asians tend to be more biased against other Asians, I hate to say it. I really like this place, was excited about the new massage chairs - and I seemed to be the only person in the salon who received such service as this. All the other nail techs were masked and healthy, the nail tech next to mine was courteous and apologetic if she even sneezed masked, turning her head away to cough even, mask on. I've always enjoyed coming to Rainlily and preferred to come here rather than other nail salon due to their clean facility and professionalism. I don't live in the area (live near Old Town Alexandria), so it's definitely a hike to come to this salon. After today's experience, I will not be returning back to this nail salon. I went in to get a pedicure today, and one of the highlights of getting a pedicure--the massage chair--was not working. The manager (?) attempted to fix the chair; however, he was unsuccessful. He nor the nail technician apologized for this inconvenience. The massage chair was seriously needed today as I was having a back pain from pregnancy, and this really ruined the whole pedicure experience. In addition. this nail salon has always had offered drinks (coffee, tea, water, etc.); however, nothing was offered to me today until towards the end of my pedicure. I guess they forgot. There is no perks of coming all the way from Alexandria and paying steep price for a pedicure if the complementary service(s) are not offered--especially with the massage chair not functioning. They didn't even offer to switch me to a different chair although there was one clearly available on the far left, by the window. I know malfunction can happen; however, it's the attitude and the lack of customer service that bothered me the most today. One of the two worst waxing experiences I've ever encountered. I've been waxing for 20+ years - this isn't my first rodeo and having just moved to Vienna, I needed to find a new go-to spot. Having driven by this place multiple times, I figured I'd give it a shot. Wow, what a mistake. The woman assigned to do my full arm wax simply has no place waxing anybody or anywhere - she had no clue what she was doing and it was actually a painful experience. Again, been doing this for 20+ years - nobody says it feels like a massage, but it's not usually that uncomfortable for me and I've never wanted to actually quit 10 minutes in because of how inept she was. A few examples - 1. Typically, shorter strips are pulled in a swift, single motion. She opted to use super long strips (that almost went from wrist to elbow) and pull it slowly, in chunks of about 1-2 inches at a time. I was literally cringing in pain. It's also well known you need to be able to keep skin taut when waxing certain areas, otherwise you wind up pulling at skin and bruising. Well, I'm going to Miami in two days and now have bruises under my upper arms because of her lack of skills. I even told her she was hurting me and to hold my skin taut as she pulled, but she kept on going as is. It was after this first happened, I started sensing that I should just leave because she wasn't good. Shame on me for staying but I was already 1/3 done and don't really have the time to go to another salon before I leave. 2. She dumped so much baby powder on my arms and hands that it looked like I was walking out of a cocaine den. Of course I've had baby powder used on my skin before but a little goes a long way. She kept shaking and shaking until I had a 1/8 inch worth on my forearms. My jeans and shirt were covered in white powder and she even dumped a huge amount on my wedding ring and engagement ring which now need to be cleaned. When I was clearly annoyed being covered in white powder, she went to go wipe down my clothing with a WET rag. I asked her to stop over and over and over, and she kept wiping. I finally said "please stop, I don't want to walk out of here with damp clothing" and she giggled and said sorry. Oh, she was also dripping hot wax from the stick (that was double dipped over and over) but it luckily narrowly missed my pants. 3. She was generally incredibly slow at waxing which made her lack of skills even more painful. I've never had a full arm wax go more than 30 minutes. This took 45 minutes. The salon is perfectly fine otherwise - looked clean, spacious, and nicely decorated, etc. but no way I would ever step foot in here for any service in the future. I truly hope for their patrons sake they have other technicians who have experience waxing. read more

I think I found my new go-to nail place! I've been to Rainlily three times now and today I came in with especially horrid nails after 2+ weeks of traveling. I love that my nails turn out perfect every time, plus it's close to my work. Trang did my nails the last two times (super meticulous!) and Jenn did my nails today (I haven't had a shellac manicure this fast and immaculate in years!) - it seems you can't go wrong with any technician here. Here's what sets them apart from the rest for me: -Organic products (sugar scrub at the end and oil massage instead of some typical goopy pink lotion) -Clean!!! -Spacious and relaxing atmosphere -Great selection of colors (including many neutral options which I find other salons lack) -Complimentary beverage [not some sugary sangria/wine but healthy teas (hot and cold options), I tried the cinnamon drink today instead of the usual tropical green tea and both are great] -I've lucked out with getting same-day appointments -Wonderful staff :) I recommend calling ahead for an appointment. The customer service here is fantastic so try calling if you need to ask to be seen on short notice. Like most people my schedule can be hectic, but I'd be willing to wait a day or two to get my nails done here than to be seen sooner at another salon (but again, I've lucked out so far in getting same-day appointments). Tip: There is a 5% cash discount - they take card but accept tips in cash only. They have a low-fee ATM (I believe the fee is only $1) in the store for your convenience but it was out of service the last two times I went so if you want the cash discount, I would come prepared with cash, so that you at least have tip ready (they're not pushy at all about it but I'm not the type of person who wants to keep track of what I owe in tip at the next appointment, I'd rather take care of everything in one shot).
