Very disappointed and not recommended. I was coming there over the years but now the place is basically empty and I am not surprised why. It seems that they are trying to make up for lost customers with different overcharging fees, and having one waiter manage all. I had a family dinner and was charged more for the package than initially discussed, the waiter was just by himself not able to manage orders, bringing drinks/coffee not knowing who ordered them and leaving them in the middle of the table, and at the end they were unclaimed and wasted. At the end, they charged different service fees: for cutting cake, 5 % of credit card fees (even though I initially offered to pay cash a few days earlier and inquired how much is the fee the person said it would be very minimal) and mandatory 20% tip for poor service. Then I got a call from my credit card that they wanted to charge me an additional bill on top of what I paid which they later denied and I claimed as fraud. Amazing.....my husband and I went here on Valentine's Day for Brunch after finding out our first choice has been closed. As soon as we walked in the owner walked towards us and greeted us. It was freezing cold outside and she made sure to sit us in a warm comfy area right by the windows with the sun coming in on us. The place is super spacious and has a great decor. It's warm and cozy inside. On Sunday's they serve brunch and their regular dinner menu throughout the day. The menu is quite big and has many choices seemed a little overwhelming at first but it was because everything sounded delicious. I had the waffles with fried chicken and my husband had the French toast with berries and a side of eggs, bacon and hash brown. These entrees come with unlimited coffee. Everything that came out of that kitchen looked and smelled delicious! The waffles were nice and crispy in the outside and not dry in the middle. The chicken was perfect very crispy and crunchy on the outside and juicy in the inside. They were not greasy at all. My husband's French toast was so tasty and I loved the berry sauce to pour over it. I'm not a fan of eggs and bacon but they were tasty as per my husband. The hash brown on the other hand were crispy and tasty. We loved our meals. The wait staff was decent they were friendly and approachable. There seemed to be two guys waiting on the tables at the time we were there. The one waiter we had though friendly did not check up on us often so when I needed some condiments and a refill on the coffee it took quite a few minutes to get his attention. My Hubby wanted to tried this spot looking for a Portuguese resturant in Bklyn. It's a Portuguese infused dive bar/pub. It gives a "Cheers" ( the 80s sitcom) vibe. As for the food we shared the spicy shrimp. Our separate meals included salmon filet dinner, balbacu w potatoes ( it tasted more like potato au gatin). The vegetable paella had so much flavor and the portion was huge. Definitely two meals (maybe 3 meals if I didn't eat so much) worth. The yucca fries were crisp and delicious. The sauces were decent. I was kindly greeted by the bartender/waiter. He was very kind and helpful. I ordered chicken strips and fries for the child I was babysitting and chicken wings and cheese fries for myself. The child's meal was great, but I didn't like mine. The meat tasted as if it was in the freezer, reheated then doused in bbq sauce, the fries were soggy and topped with many unnecessary ingredients. I told the waiter I didn't like my meal, he tried to convince me that the meal was good. I asked for a manager, a tall white older woman with grayish/blonde she came over and asked me what was wrong with the meal. I explained to her that I didn't like the meat, it didn't taste fresh and I didn't enjoy the fries either ( I had only eaten on piece of each). She told me that no one complains about the food, she makes and sells it all the time. I explained to her that I'm a customer and everyone has different taste buds and that particular plate didn't favor mine. She told me that my reasoning wasn't good enough and she didn't like my attitude. I told her I wasn't going to pay for something I didn't like or eat, she then ordered me pay for the food that was eaten and leave the establishment. As I awaited the check from the bartender, the manager came back to my table, and starting speaking to the 3 year old child accompanying me, telling her to not be like me, to not scam restaurants. I quickly told her to not speak to the child, she said replied that she heard me say something to the child and that I should teach her right. She then told me that although I don't think I was,that I am lower than low. I was treated like a seconds class citizen, offered the worst customer experience as well as being insulted and humiliated. I was talked down on in-front on the child I was babysitting, even the toddler was addressed by the rude manager. I don't suggest that anyone of color invest their time or money into that business. The racist manager even attempted to belittle my character. She's clearly not fit to run a restaurant or communicate with customer. Ok so I'm portuguesa! I'm going to be very picky with the food i eat from my country. So the caldo verde i was super disappointed, they added beens and carrots. The octopus was definitely traditional and delicious. We had oysters-dozen raw and our waiter suggested we have the other half baked. Never has baked oysters like that but it was really good. The steak my husband had was dry and flavorless. I had a traditional dish-bacalhau a Gomes de Sa--it was a no no. They added pickled veggies on top, the potato did not taste fresh. So the first time I went here was before I ever moved to the neighborhood and needed somewhere to go after looking at apartments. The first time I only had yuca fries which were really good. I went back the other day for weekend brunch and while the brunch isn't exactly Portuguese or anything special, it did taste very good. I had a spinach and feta omelet. I am a regular at Raizes since it opened just under a year ago, around the block from our apartment. I have brought a lot of business there and usually enjoy the great staff. Until today. My girlfriend and I went there today for the World Cup final. I ordered oysters and surprisingly ate a bad oyster (tasted spoiled/rotten) and immediately felt/feel ill. I like the restaurant so I didn't want to make a big stink about it. I asked the waiter to clear the table. Mind you, I have never returned a meal at the restaurant. When the check came they had charged me for half the 24 oysters. I quietly refused to pay because I didn't feel it was right to charge us. The Assistant General Manager (tall lanky guy w/ black hair) insisted I pay and when I explained myself he called me a liar... and that I did not eat a bad oyster. Obviously taken by surprise I asked to speak to the manager where he replied, "Oh that's me! (Reaches out to shake my hand sarcastically) I am the Assistant General Manager here, hi!."After some debate he reluctantly agreed to not charge me for the oysters. I don't mind too much that I ate a bad oyster and as I said, I've never returned 1 meal the 20+ times I've eaten at Raizes. But after I get sick from eating their food the last thing I expected was attitude from the Assistant General Manager and to be called a liar...which really upset me because we are regulars. We paid the bill for our drinks and left 10 minutes into the game. The owner of the restaurant is a lovey woman so it's a shame she has people like the Assistant General Manager representing her establishment, treating her customers with disrespect, attitude and calling regulars liars. I really, really, really wanted to love this place. Considering my family is Portuguese, having access to Portuguese cuisine blocks from my home is awesome, but the experience really feel short on what I was expecting. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed with lots of wood and interesting metal bar stools. The back is a little too dark for my liking as its difficult to read the menus and see your food. In the daytime, the windows lend plenty of light so this isn't an issue. I'm also not the biggest fan of the open windows considering it's on the corner of a super busy intersection, so the noise and air pollution didn't exactly lend itself to a romantic, calm meal. However, this isn't something that can be fixed. It was rather quiet on a Saturday night at around 8pm. My family and I were greeted warmly and seated without issue in the back. The owner, a very friendly woman, spoke Portuguese to my mother (who is fluent) and asked a Portuguese waiter to take care of us. I really liked the whole "family" vibe that the staff exuded. I was extremely hopeful for the meal, but overall the meal doesn't warrant the hefty price-tag. The Sagres on draft was nice, although $7 for about 12oz isn't worth it. If they had a happy hour that included this beer, I would come to watch some soccer and pretend I was back in Portugal. They had a nice wine list - so maybe this is the way to go. My husband and I shared their version of caldo verde (which is a traditional Portuguese soup with greens and linguisa). They did warn us it wasn't like the caldo verde we're used to, but it was a delicious soup. It was a large bowl for $6, large enough to be filling for one person with some bread. A great lunch option. This was probably my favorite part of the meal. My nephew, 19 months old, enjoyed the kids meal (ask for it, they don't have a menu yet) of chicken tenders and french fries. It was $10 - so not exactly kid menu prices, but it was a huge portion and very good. They have great fresh cut french fries, definitely the only side worth getting. They needed a dipping sauce for this dish though. So for the meal we ordered: Grilled cod fish - this is a tricky dish and it was an epic fail. It was TOO salty and inedible. It needed to be soaked for longer. If you get this dish and its too salty, you must send it back. It happens with center cut cod fish, but its never fun to experience. They were very nice and brought my mother grilled sardines with a salad instead. She enjoyed this a lot. Surf & Turk - my father ordered this special, $29, that includes a sirloin and 3 stuffed shrimp and two sides. The steak was perfectly cooked and he liked the shrimp. He didn't think it was worth $29, but he still enjoyed it. His fried potatoes were under cooked and were replaced with better ones halfway through the meal. Grilled Half Chicken - we thought this was going to be traditional "frango no churrasco", one of the most popular Portuguese dishes. It was just a plain ol' grilled chicken. Honestly, frango no churrasco is fabulous and easy to make - why aren't they doing this if this is a Portuguese restaurant?! The dish was $16 and tasty. although its one of the most affordable dish on the menu, it's just roasted chicken. The fries are good with this dish, but the kale is just okay. Octopus and Kale Salad - my sister enjoyed this and it was a large portion. She said some of the octopus was a little tough, but still tasty. It's a hearty salad for anyone wanting a healthy dish. Broiled Seafood Platter - although this isn't a traditional Portuguese dish, I figured the seafood would be good since as half their menu was dedicated to their New England theme (strange). I feel like Raizes is having an identify crisis. Anyhoo, my dish was really disappointing. To put is simply, the meal was BLAND. Where is the salt, the spices? It tasted like nothing. The broiled filet of sole has zero flavor. No amount of lemon could fix it. The scallops and shrimp were perfectly cooked, but also bland as hell. It was so boring to eat but I ate it cause I was hungry and it was expensive. The mashed potatoes were also incredible bland, no butter or salt. The steamed veggies were bland too. There was no salt or pepper on the tables so I suffered through my meal, mostly eating everyone else's food. Maybe the fried dish is better? The desserts were tasty. The banana bread pudding was awesome and the flourless chocolate cake was okay. Not the best, but still chocolaty and good. So Raizes - if you want to make it in this neighborhood, you have to bring down your prices and added some flavor to your dishes. I just don't think people are going to pay between $20 and $30 for food that is just subpar. I want to love you guys, but things need to change. It looks cool, so Raizes has that going for it. I will get this out of the way, the service was laughably terrible. I was sort of laughing out of a mix of frustration, embarrassment and disbelief. There are simply too many good restaurants in the area for a place to open, charge what Raizes does and not deliver. The cod was just far too salty, the waiter could not answer questions people in our party had (Question: "How are the fried scallops?" Answer: "Like a scallop, but fried." Much of our food was cold. I am actually sort of impressed that they managed to screw up mashed potatoes. The menu is schizophrenic with a bunch of Portuguese and brazilian offerings and then a bunch of fried seafood, which is apparently "New England style." Went with my girlfriend once when it was empty and got the all you can eat entree, it was good. Came here for my birthday and they had a private party which apparently means I didn't matter. It took over 20 minutes to get our waiter to take our order and over thirty for the waiter to get the check, who was also a different waiter than the first. That doesn't warrant the one star however. What does is the fact that, once again, I ordered the all you can eat entree, and they stopped serving me food after fifteen minutes! I paid $28 for six pieces of meat and sides, absolutely unacceptable. After waiting 45 minutes for more food, or even our waiter to show up, he came back with a check and left...which then took us another thirty minutes to pay. Absolutely horrible service. So much anticipation over this restaurant opening, and I have to say it was a great experience. the inside decor and ambience is really fantastic and the food was great as well. The portions were huge for the price, and the presentation of everything was beautifully done. Had the oysters on the halfshell, and the Chicken dish for the meal. All the sides were delicious, and definitely did not leave hungry. The waiter even brought us a taste of Portuguese dessert wine compliments of the house. The cocktail menu looked great, and I can't wait to come back to try their happy hour during the week. My friends wanted to try this place. I was skeptical until I called the restaurant and they said they would be happy to work with the whole Celiac thing. They were more than true to their word. Here's the deal: if you have no food issues, just go and eat and enjoy. The food is very good, the service is attentive, and the prices are good for what you get. If you have Celiac, call first and talk to them. They have a good selection that you can choose from. Avoid the fried sides as they are cooked in the same oil as the fried seafood. Also if you order the flourless chocolate cake for dessert, make sure they leave the cookie off. (That was resolved quickly) I had the grilled salmon with mashed potatoes (freshly made) and mixed veggies. The salmon was done perfectly, and the white wine sauce really made it. Good price on beers for happy hour ($2 lions head cans!) also got a small bite - sliced steak sliders with platain and a side of yucca chips; they were awesome. Mariscos Na Cataplana Churrasco Skirt steak Decided to have my birthday dinner celebration at this restaurant after I read prior yelp reviews. This place did not disappoint. Came here with a party for 14, But two friends didn't show up so we had a long table for 12. We each ordered a combination of the specialities on the menu. I ordered the Mariscos Na Cataplana with a side of mashed potatoes. For appetizers I ordered the kale soup and grilled oysters (comes in half a dozen) to share. My sister and another two friends ordered the skirt steak, My brother-in-law and another friend ordered the Churrasco. First, I would have to say the grilled oysters was to die for. There was only 6 on the plate, so I only ate one and shared the rest. But the oysters was so good that I would had probably been happy eating a whole two plates of that. The kale soup was unique too. First time eating kale in soup. It tasted a lot like chili as the soup was slightly spicy. I would had enjoyed it more had it not been so salty. The side of mashed potatoes was simply delicious. Would had eaten two plates of that had I not been full. My main dish (seafood pot- Mariscos Na Cataplana) was plentiful. The 1 jumbo prawn was delicious. The rest (mussel, clams, shrimp, scallop, monk fish) was nothing particularly special. But there was a lot, so for $26 it was filling. I had a bite of the skirt steak and I thought it was rather good. I love meat and steak in particular so I thought it was cooked and seasoned just right. But my friend and sister didn't enjoy it that much. The Churrasco was roasted meat (Turkey, chicken, beef, sausage, pork, lamb) seasoned with spices. I tried a little of all except the lamb and thought it was so so. It was a little over seasoned in my opinion. Nothing spectacular but was still good. Maybe because we had a huge group as we took up most of the back seating, but the customer service was amazing. The staff was very attentive and was very eager to get our order and assist with all request. In addition, the head host gave me a small glass of Remy Martin, although my brother thinks it's red wine but I could taste the difference. It was definitely Remy. Which was very nice of them. The inside decor was very nice and reminds me of Portugal. I had the best company of friends and family and after eating dinner and birthday cake, none of us wanted to leave. We continue socializing and the staff did not rush us to leave or give us a hard time. I would give the staff 5 stars for service. This is the type of customer service I enjoy. And as we left the restaurant my cousin comes up to me and says "this restaurant deserves 4stars for customer service alone. I would come back here for the service alone regardless of how the food taste." This says a lot about this establishment in regards to their customer service. Definitely give this place a try for the decor, environment, customer service, and grilled oysters. The raw bar although I did not ordered it, is probably superb too. First the food was good but the service definitely wasn't worth the more than a $1,000 bill we had. I would give this place a negative rating if it were allowed. We went for a dinner during the break of the viewing of my grandmother. The waiter seemed very rude and slow. We had a group of 20 people. We told him we were short on time. There was only this one waiter for the whole place. The food was good. We enjoyed the appetizers but had to have our entrees wrapped to go because it came at 6:40 and weepers due back by 7. After paying the bill and leaving the remainder of the party to finish their meals, the rest of us went back to the funeral home. We were told one of the kids asked for a soda and the waiter said the bill is already closed and we can't get you one. After spending more than $1,000 on this meal you give us a hard time for a soda. Was there tonight for the first time and loved it! Used to walk by this place when it was a closed down autobody shop, but they renovateded it beautifully. Craft beer on tap, unique menu include a lot of fish/seafood, and an all you can eat dinner for $28 which includes salad, rice, potato (fries or mashed), black beans, kale salad, and soooo much meat!! It's brazilian steakhouse style except portuguese (very similar). So many types of meat. I remember chicken legs, bacon wrapped turkey (my favorite), chorizo, steak, lamb, pork (with a delicious marinade), and another beef. We were stuffed and sad we had no room to try a dessert. No good. Just no good, dude. I went there with a craving for steak, and some other meats, crammed onto a sword and sliced onto my plate like I was an extra in a Game of Thrones feast scene. I got my wish, but with the same level of forgery you'd expect on the show. The service was okay. Attentive but not overly so; you'd never feel like royalty here. The general atmosphere was such that you seem to be a traveler within the galley of a large ship, but not as any kind of guest of honor. In fact, the fellow patrons seem to have traveled great distances for the chance to be served gross food. Which brings me to the food itself. It was bad. Either overly salted, or downright stale. Perhaps this is in keeping with the boat theme. Hard tack & gruel? The steak could've been quite good, if it didn't insta-dry my mouth. Also, I know I got the "all you can eat" dish and that generally means no sharing, but I felt like they were studying my every move as I tried to sneak a bite or two to my beautiful girlfriend during the 2 hour meal. This place had some tvs showing the games. Only gripe was no sound. The service was quite good. Staff was super friendly and accommodating to our large party. This is a beautiful space, Huge and looks great. We showed up late on evening about 8 or 9 pm and it was pretty quiet. Ordered a bunch of different dishes to share between the 4 of us. Char-Grilled Whole Sardines - were good and different, I haven't seen a dish like that served anywhere Grilled Octopus - This was very good once we squeeze some lemon on them. Mini Rodizio - all the meat was cooked too much, was tough, otherwise it was decent meat. Server was decent though it seemed to change a few times throughout the meal. LOL. This entire experience. 1. The Calamari were not thoroughly fried, the batter was undercooked. We addressed our dissatisfaction to our waiter who later returned and advised me "for future reference" next time I want something fried properly that I should ask for "extra crispy". We sat there for an extra 30 mins when we decided to ask what is up?... Our waiter never sent the order to the kitchen because he was waiting for us to tell him when we were ready. Love Portuguese food. I am happy you are here near by me. We visited Raizes soon after restaurant opened for business. I love how they managed to build great restaurant with superb and outstanding look. Food was great which reminds me of my vacations in Portugal, Sagres beer was even better. But sadly said Sagres was well overpriced ($7) getting only small 0.3L glass. Want to go back soon to Raizes for grilled sardines, hope they have it. read more

Tried 6 appetizers for Mother's Day. Each one was exquisite. Crab cakes more flavorful than any I have had. Shrimp in spicy red sauce delicious. Mussels portion was very generous. I saved sauce to add pasta later that's how good it was crazy I know. read more
