We got seated right away, and we ordered: -Gomoku Ramen -Chicken Katsu Curry Ramen & Spam Katsu Gomoku Ramen was very rich in flavor but was a little too salty ( even the boiled egg was salty ) & the char siu was sliced so thin. Chicken Katsu Curry Ramen was watered down and wasn't a consistency of a curry... Both chicken and spam katsu was ok. At the end of the day, ramen is ramen. Excellent service and excellent food at reasonable prices! I am so glad that Rakumen opened up in Mililani Mauka. They are close to Gyu-kaku in the Gateway at Mililani Mauka. There is ample parking and they're open daily from 10:45am - 8:45pm. We tried a bunch of different menu items and they were all delicious! The ramen noodles tasted fresh and all the broths were rich in flavor and steaming hot. All the food came out in record time after ordering. The staff came by to check on us throughout our meal to ensure our drinks were kept full and were always friendly and helpful. My husband was jonesing for ramen and gyoza after receiving advertisement via mail for 15% discount. I was skeptical since Mililani is not really known for their local eateries. We agreed to give this place a try. Side Order Kim Chee: Only took two bites. Tasty and fresh. Kim chee has been fermented for a long time which tasted soft. Black Garlic Oil Tan Tan Ramen: Few bites of ramen with seaweed tasted fine. Observed there were only three thin slices of pork in entire bowl. Pork tasted very tender and easy to pull apart with chopsticks/hashi. Please don't skimp on the pork. Wish there were a few more thicker slices. Slurped some broth and realized there's too much salt which overpowered the garlic. At first I thought it was kim chee taste that lingered on my tongue. I told my husband, "Please taste the broth. Tell me how does it taste?" He responded, "Salty." I finished ramen and seaweed, then left the remaining broth in bowl. Black Garlic Oil Tan Tan Ramen earned the nickname Salty Broth. Mini Ramen Combo Set A Mini Ramen: My son said he enjoyed his ramen and broth was not salty. My husband noticed and commented that mini ramen only had three thin slices of pork. Mochiko Chicken, Rice & Mac Salad: Decent portion size; however, one side of mochiko chicken tasted crispy while other side tasted soft. 4 pcs Gyoza: Disappointed to have more cabbage to ground pork ratio in filling. After taking a first bite from gyoza, top portion of wrapper opens and diced cabbage falls out. Server spoke too quickly before, during and after dining even though we're able to understand conveyed messages. Continuous water refills doesn't resolve salt overkill on my tongue. Yay a new restaurant in Mauka! I'm so excited to try here! It's so close to home and we love ramen! Rakumen was busy with dine in and take out orders. We were seated promptly and our drink order was taken as soon as we sat down. We looked over the menu and I decided to try the Combo A so I can try three things in one order. Combo A comes with the mini ramen and gyoza and I chose the chicken katsu curry for my third choice. I wanted to try the shrimp fried rice so I ordered a mini. All of it was really ono and the portions was good. I wasn't able to finish it all. Tomorrow's breakfast is the Shrimp Fried Rice and the katsu curry is for lunch. Both of my sons ordered the Black Garlic Oil Tonkotsu Ramen. It smelled so good.. garlic!! They said it was really good and they would order it again. Me and the ms got 1) black garlic oil tonkatsu ramen $12.95 with extra noodles $2.75 2) chicken katsu curry $11.95 upgrade to char siu fried rice $3.95??? 3) beef curry $12.95 Prices are kinda normal compared to daiichi and ramen ya etc. like the fact our takeout ramen was separate the broth was a plus. The extra noodles was already with the other noodles. The ms said that there was to much noodles and next time don't order the extra noodles. Over all the curry is comparable to sumo ramen curry it's on the sweeter side. The chicken katsu was nothing special but the beef curry and the black garlic ramen is something we would order again. * note happy hour 4 piece gyoza is 2pm-5Pm! However we ordered online and used the 15% code i got in the mail. However when we went to pick up the order they said no gyoza because we used coupon code. Nowhere was it stated in their flyer or online when I ordered did it say either or. Wish I knew I would of rather had the 12 piece gyoza then the 15% off. And I was very satisfied indeed being quite the ramen connoisseur and lover. My daughter enjoyed it too. I loved this ramen shop as well for the wide array of condiments and spices that they provide on the table! This makes them more fun and unique! New ramen place in Mililani Mauka! Everyone in the neighborhood received a 15% discount through online and takeout orders. My boyfriend and his family wanted to try it out one night, so we ordered through their website! It's located next to Poke Stop, directly across of Starbucks in Mililani Mauka. There's a huge parking lot with ample parking. I got the Black Garlic Tantan Ramen which I have NEVER heard or seen in other restaurants. Black garlic + tantan? Whaaat. Only seen black garlic tonkotsu. So, of course I had to get that option. The soup smelled delicious! And it tasted good! Definitely not the authentic kind of ramen but a great option to have when it's a cold, rainy day. The noodles are saimin kind of noodles that need to actually be cooked before eating. That was actually the downside since the soup wasn't hot enough to cook the noodles. Booooo. But everything else was good! The egg was also marinated in shoyu, giving a little more saltiness to the already salty broth. My boyfriend got the tonkotsu ramen, and it wasn't as heavy as mine. Came here on a Sunday night around 7pm and was seated right away. It is a very casual ambiance. The staff wasn't anything extra, they took my order and food came out right away. They were also very attentive and kept the water filled. I've only had the set that included ramen, gyoza, and choice of a side dish. All of that for $14 is a steal. On the table they leave all the condiments such as gyoza sauce, shoyu, vinegar, and chili oil. I put a little of the chili oil in the ramen and it really enhanced the flavor. Having Rakumen in Mililani Mauka gives me a chance to come back down to my old neighborhood and away from downtown traffic, so there's that. I like where it is, although the parking stalls just seem so tight here on island. Why is that? Not Rakumen's fault though. Every time I've been here, I feel like the food comes out in less than 10 minutes and I'm always so shocked at the speed. The food is still very much hot and ready to eat, but it just surprises me with how fast it is ready. Everything that I've had here has been good. I also don't know what it is about map tofu ramen on the island, but they come out very gelatinous on the top, and I've never had that on the mainland. It's weird, but it doesn't take away from the taste so that's just something I've noticed. I think the best bet for me to have an enjoyable meal for the best price is to do their combo sets. I don't normally get just "regular" ramen, since I favor mapo tofu, but I remember when I first tried to change the ramen to a mapo tofu and it was not a mini like the set usually comes with. It was the full size, and cost more since it was the full size, so just keep that in mind. It doesn't sound like you can exchange the ramen for a different kind and keep it mini if you do the combo. Everything runs really quickly here as well, and I think it's due to limited space. However, the staff is very good at not rushing you while you're eating, which I appreciate it. You'll probably want to eat quickly though just with how fast everything happens. I like that they send occasional discount codes and that's been a big factor in me going three times so far since I've been on island. read more

My recent dining experience was disappointing. We placed an online order for char siu fried rice and chicken katsu curry. The order included separating the curry from the rice. The portions of food remain very generous. However, the curry dish included very little curry with no vegetables that sparsely covered the rice. The curry was also not in a separate container. Based on a prior order for the exact dish, there was 75% less curry at a higher price. The savior was the fried rice which was tasty. Decided to dine in here with my co workers. The menu is very similar to dining in at a Daiichi or Ramen-Ya. There are combo plates as well as curry dishes and of course . Ramen. The service was good. Server was attentive and always made sure that the waters were filled. Went with the Spicy Beef Ramen. The only thing that makes it spicy is the abundance of Chilli Oil that was dumped in. The top layer of beef on top was the only beef and honestly it wasn't enough. The broth was watery and never really had taste just needed some salt. I had very high hopes for this place. A few weeks ago, I stopped by for the first time and got beef curry and gyoza to go. It was spectacular! Decided to go for the ramen next visit. And I did. I wanted to get the thickest, most robust flavored soup, so I got the "Special" tonkotsu black garlic ramen. I really liked the visual presentation. Very vibrant, neat and appetizing. As with most ramen takeouts, the soup and noodles were packaged in separate containers. Before pouring the soup into the ramen bowl, I took a little sip. It was a tad disappointing, as I had such high hopes for this shop. The soup was a bit on the bland side. I guess the fried garlic chips are supposed to carry the flavor but there's nothing else. What I did notice was a slight slimy texture and a hint of odor. This probably indicates that inferior pork bones were used to draw the soup stock. For those of you who don't know how tonkotsu soup is made, ignorance is bliss. If you knew exactly what's in it, you may be traumatized! So, I'll spare you the details. What I will say is that hours of boiling the pork bones is needed to extract the umami, but other ingredients are crucial too. Grated ginger, garlic cloves, salt and pepper are some of the common items that are used. Despite the shortcomings of the tonkotsu soup, I have high hopes that Rakumen could be a top contender in the ramen world if they tweaked their soup just a little bit. Use better quality pork bones would be one. Adding a bit more flavor would be the other. *I had some leftover soup, so I added a little grated ginger and garlic with a few drops of la-yu to it and already, it was about as good as the other ramen shops in town. I give them 4 stars despite the seemingly harsh critique of their tonkotsu, because of their prompt and courteous service. But most of all, I believe that they will only get better. I recommend online order if possible or dine in, because it took 15 min in line to place a to-go order! They are truly slammed for take out, and could not stop to answer the phone, but had at least one table open the entire hour I waited for my order to be ready. I spent my time chatting with the people in my neighborhood and watching the clouds as the sun set behind the building. There are worse ways I could have spent that time. The restaurant employees did their best to keep us updated while we waited, which I appreciated. When I received my food I was happy to see how well the order had been packaged. They separated the noodles and broth as standard practice, and the various containers were securely taped into the box. Everything made it home without incident and we were ready to eat! My guess is that the food will all taste better next week when they have time to breathe. They have some ground to make up before they get to the level of some of the nearby ramen shops. We ordered gyoza, two different types of broth, chicken curry katsu, shrimp fried rice, and seafood fried udon. The broth was too salty, noodles and rice too oily, and the katsu was dry. The gyoza seemed to be house made, as the wrapping was loose and the filling had big bites of cabbage. Not a bad thing, but unexpected. There are so many simple ramen shops nearby, so I am positive that they know the level they must meet in order to thrive. They are fortunate to be the only one on the Mauka side, and to be the newest and therefore nicest and cleanest spot around. For all of this, we paid $30 dollars with the 15% off coupon. Pleasewhatever you do don't order the shit we did. The ramen was salty. Everything in it was salty. We both couldn't finish the ramen because it tasted like you swallowed ocean water. Fricking gross. My girlfriend also said the soup was lukewarm. Service was good as they filled my water up a couple of times because I kept drinking water to kill the salty taste of the soup. The gyoza was decent but it kept falling apart after the first bite. I' was looking for Ramen to take home to hubby for dinner. I knew that there was a new place open in Mililani but I didn't know that this is where I was ordering food from because I was in Mililani Town. I ordered the Set A. Which is Ramen noodles with Char Sui meat, Fried Rice and Goya. My order was to be ready in 10 minutes but it took me 20 minutes to get to the restaurant. When I pulled up, the foot traffic going in and out was amazing. I said this must be a good place to eat. I walked in to hear chatter happening as families were enjoying their meals. It's small but quaint. They have a shelf setup for pickups and deliveries, very convenient. The young lady asked my name and the manager quickly came around helping to get our order together. The base soup was separate from the Ramen. This was good but the ramen noodles were too dry by the time I made it home to the North Shore. I heated the Goya in the toaster oven. They heated up perfectly. I steamed the noodles and warmed the base. We enjoyed a really delicious dinner tonight. I'm usually slow when it comes to realizing about new places to eat, so when I learned of a new ramen place just minutes from where I lived I made every effort to try it out, especially since I do like a good ramen bowl. And you will get that here for sure. I of course just had to get the Big Ramen bowl, which looked it had everything you could want in it, to include katsu? Yes please. I pride myself on eating everything in one sitting, but this buggah gave me hard time as I struggled to finish everything. This was a loaded bowl, well worth the $15.75. I almost tapped out. Almost. The egg was a little overcooked as the center turned into hard-boiled instead of the gooey richness you want, and the broth needed a little more flavor, but it was all-around good enough for another visit. The next time we got the combo, and that was an even better deal! You get 3 dishes, so you can dabble in some different flavors and textures, all around the same price as the B.A.B. of ramen. Their smoothies are yummy too. I'm super happy that there is a newer ramen place nearby with better ingredients.
