What an incredibly horrendous experience. My husband entered this store today, Friday October 10 at 7pm and was not greeted or helped. An Asian woman was racist and incredible rude. She lied about flag sweaters not being in stock when I had called earlier to double check and they held one for us in the back. What an unpleasant and unprofessional woman! I will head back to the store and return my purchase next week. I do not support this store any more. Hopefully this terrible human being is not located over to Newport Beach when Ralph Lauren re-opens their new location in Fashion Island, because as residents of Newport Coast, we do not want such unpleasant people over here! Never order online Ralph Lauren. Purchased a gift online not the outlet Ralph Lauren online and they said they will GIFT WRAP the item . This is what GIFT wrap looks like in REAL LIFE vs what is shown on their website. What a JOKE! I paid extra for the gift wrap! OMG, I've never experienced such BAD service before at a higher end store. Perhaps bro and I were dressed too shabbily for them to pay us any attention, but we didn't have any trouble at any of the other stores we went to before or after them. Usually, salespeople are like falling over themselves when they think someone is going to spend money in their store. At Ralph Lauren? They couldn't give a rat's ass. Staff were focused on themselves rather than their customers. Usually I don't mind since I prefer browsing and not having sales staff bother me. However, my brother was actually looking for something and as we ventured farther into the store, there was not one salesperson within eye view or ear shot. Hell yeah we got pissed off. After fumbling through what they had on the shelves and on the racks, my brother said "fuck it" and we left. We got FAR better service at Macy's in the Ralph Lauren department than the store itself. How f-ed up is that? Snooty salespeople who think they're better than the people they are serving. Don't need that kind of attitude. read more

If you are looking for people who judge you based on what you are wearing, this is your store. Personally, I own a lot of Ralph Lauren clothing ranging from polos to suits. I just decided to stop by after shopping for some items because I love RL and their clothing. I have never felt more uncomfortable in a place and never imagined it to be from RL. This place was empty (I can understand why). So much for working sales. Anyways, spend your money in places that give you better customer service. Honestly, it's just Ralph Lauren too LOL. read more

I'm going to say I'm a big fan of RL and love how the Purple Label shirts and suits fit on me. Shirts are around 500 and suits in the 2k range. The salespeople in the men's section are extremely helpful once you get to know them (Sean, Stephen and Mark). This isn't a department store so the salespeople are going to have their regular customers. So don't be put off if a ton of people aren't all over you at first. If you have room on your credit card, try buying one of their shirts. You won't be disappointed. read more

WORST. SERVICE. EVER. Is it because I wasn't dressed in all diamonds and the finest fur coat? Do I look like I don't have money to buy your expensive clothes? Funny, because last time I checked, I had a lot of it. I cannot believe the experience I had at this store today. Truly disappointing and outright rude. The customer service here is absolute garbage, which is probably why this store isn't as busy as all the rest in South Coast Plaza. I entered the store to do a return for a top that was purchased a week ago. This store is a bit confusing because of the layout, so I had to ask someone where the register was. Once I got to the register, there were four, I repeat FOUR, employees behind the counter. The second I stood infront of the register, all four of them split. They couldn't have been all busy... the store was practically empty except for two people who were shopping independently. I stood there for a good five minutes, I kid you not, without being acknowledged by any of the employees. One of the male workers kept pacing to and away from the register with nothing in his hands, simply muttering words that seemed of nonsense, like a schizophrenic. Three employees passed by me a few times, not making eye contact, avoiding me completely. Do they work on commission here? I wouldn't be surprised if they were, explaining why they wanted nothing to do with my return. By the end of the five minutes of me standing there completely ignored, FINALLY an Asian lady worker there turned around from being at the register and said, "Oh... has anyone helped you yet?" I said to her, "No. I've been standing here for five minutes waiting for some service." She had the audacity to say, "Excuse me?!" Ditch the attitude, missy. You're all but a part-time holiday minimum wage Ralph Lauren worker. Get off your high horse and do your job. That's what you're getting paid $8 an hour for afterall. After trying my best to not completely tell her off, she explained that she couldn't make the return in store and had to mail it back to the company in order to get a refund. HAH, you think I would trust you lazy and ignorant workers to mail my return for me when you couldn't even TURN AROUND to acknowledge the fact that I was waiting for service? No. I can do it myself, no thanks to you. The customer service at this location does not meet the high standard South Coast Plaza thrives on. NO WONDER this store was practically empty compared to all the hustle and bustle every other store in the mall was experiencing. Whoever manages this place seriously needs to teach his/her employees the importance of good customer service. read more

As I entered the store, I was greeted and I asked to be directed to the men's section. They told me it's located to the right. They allowed me to browse, solo, for a while. After a few minutes, I was asked if I was looking for anything in particular, by one of the sales associates. I told them I was looking for a garment for my husband to take back East with us, which would look classy, casual, and appropriate for warmer weather. The sales associate was wonderful. He was patient and let me take photos so I could show my husband, and he can come back and try on the garments. I did purchase my husband a shirt that I could give him as a gift. It's very rare that department stores provide gift boxes these days, but they provided me with a very classic RL gift box. As I waited to pay at the counter, another sales associate engaged me in friendly conversation. They provided service with class, without coming off as pushy or pretentious. I wear RL clothing mainly on weekends and Fridays and I previously had good customer service from this store. I came in this past Friday and was not greeted nicely or received adequate customer service. Perhaps it was because I was wearing jeans, chucks and a tee or because I asked if they had chinos or dress khaki's that I had seen online. She pointed me to where they were and when I indicated that these were not the ones I had seen online, she promptly indicated that I should go to Macy's. It's not what she said but rather how she said it. The delivery and tone was I did not belong in the RL store. I didn't catch her name but she was just absolutely snotty. She seemed think I didn't belong there. Rather than wasting any further time and money on their product I went over to Nordstrom... received excellent customer service and walked away with an impromptu $1,900 purchase of clothing... and a pair of chinos. The staff here could take a lesson in customer service from Nordstrom. read more

She was beautiful, gracious and she loved Lola who was with us all day hanging out in our shoulder bag. My husband loves this store! We shop the men's department regularly. Sometimes you may find the same merchandise on sale at Macy's or Bloomingdales. If you tell them that they will usually price match. We have had nothing but impeccable service here. Most of our salespeople are men, though since we are on the men's side. What can I say? their polos here looks nice and feels comfortable. As long as you buy the purple labels. If you buy the cheap polos, just go buy it somewhere cheaper like lacoste or hugo boss. They have nice cashmere sweaters that cost $400-$1000 too!!! read more

This is my absolute favorite Ralph Lauren Store!! I've been to one's in Beverly Hills, New York, DC, etc, but the service here is amazing!! Every time I come here everyone is exceptionally helpful. I'm typically a once a season shopper and try my best to have Charles assist me because he's amazing. Even though you're not somewhere like Barney's or Bergdorf Goodman, their associates really cater to your needs. I remember once when my shopping day had been going on fairly long (not just in the store but throughout shopping the mall) and Charles offered something to drink which is something you'd expect from a more luxurious store (as this location is more casual then formal). The associates go beyond what should just be expected which is why I've become a frequent shopper. But what I love most is that no matter what kind of shopper you are, they treat you with the upmost respect. Whether I'm only shopping for a Polo shirt or a new spring line up, they don't care how much money I'm spending just that I'm getting all the help I need. So if the recession hasn't hit you too hard, swing by and see what I'm about! read more

I went on a shopping spree with two tourist cousins from the motherland, the Philippines. Yup, they're the stereotypical Asians that you hear about that could buy your used, last year Honda Civic on a single afternoon of shopping. I never felt so impoverished before as with these two. Walking into the store, we encounter this middle aged woman that resembles one of the OC Real Housewives. Upon seeing my cousins with their loot, she gave us a big welcome, quizzing us about our afternoon. Yadda yadda yadda! It felt as though she'd like to hug each one of us. Nothing is wrong with that but please make sure that you, at least, make the effort to be sincere. I could smell fakeness from her pores. As my cousins were trying on stuff, we had her utmost attention. She is a hunter. All she could think of was her commission. She barely noticed other people in the store. She continued to pounce us with her incessant small talk. When my cousin asked about a $400 pair of shorts and why it was pricey, she stated that " that's the way it's done here, honey," with a matching Real Housewife laugh that you hear from TV. Downright patronizing! We were expecting for her to explain the details and tailoring that sets this garment apart and could justify its cost, but we were asking for too much. She offered us refreshments in between her incessant small talk which, I felt, was the first customer service she's done besides the big welcome. Aside from that, she never really gave us any insight to the taloring of the garments and the brand. What an airhead! That kind of sales talk would only work with the rest of the real housewives IMHO. But since the pair of shorts and the rest of the items were presents, she got her commission in the end. As she was asking for our information so that she could contact us personally if we needed anything, she was very loud to the point that the other sales staff were looking at her and at us. As though she wasn't too much already, she said " Why dont I give you two extra large shopping bag so you could put all your shopping bags in there? So now, instead, of having to carry all that, you only have to carry two big bags." And with a shriek, she shouted a name and came another salesperson carrying two big bags and was helping us put everything in those two extra large RL bags. This partcular sales lady was just too much to handle and offered nothing that we didnt already know. Less patronizing, and more sincere interaction next time pls. Although even without my cousins, the sales staff from this store has always treated me very nicely with a warm "Ni Hao!" everytime I come in like they are ready to converse with you in Mandarin. But even my Fookien is rusty at best. The company has to make sure that the sales people are well versed with their product line so that they could converse knowledgeably with customers and treat them equally. read more

Worst customer service ever! They make things so difficult and they are inconsistent with the way they do things. One sales associate gave me an immediate credit back to my account for an exchange, while the other one filled out some paper thing and I have yet to see the return. If and when I ever do buy something from them again, it will only be online, and I will make sure I won't have to return it to avoid the headache. read more

The other reviewers are right about the staff being courteous and helpful, but I don't think I've ever been to a Ralph Lauren store with a smaller selection. Since South Coast Plaza is a higher-end mall, this store focuses a lot more on Purple Label and Black Label than it does on Polo. I happen to prefer Polo, so I was disappointed at the lack of selection and variety. If you need a suit, shop here; if you need a polo, pair of pants, or anything casual, shop at Macy's or one of the other department stores. The selection here is so upscale that it's impractical. Also, good luck finding something that's not black or tan on the men's side. Of all the RL stores I've ever been in I'd have to say this one has the least to offer. read more

Below par customer service. I had a lunch date with a friend and wanted to process a return before meeting her. Upon being greeted, I asked whether someone could help me with a return -- I usually don't do this but I was running on a schedule. The greeter pointed me toward the register (which, actually, was helpful because this store's layout is super confusing) and said that someone would help me, and that if someone wasn't present at the register she herself would come help me. Yea ok none of that happened. I stood there at the register for five minutes and counting while the greeter didn't move (she could totally see that no one was helping me) and no one came. I finally had to ask for help. Following conversation ensued: "Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me?" "Return?" "Yes." "Hang on, let me get someone for you." Sales associate returns and introduces me to the second associate he had brought. Then he went, "OK, never mind, I'll just help you out instead" and told the second associate to leave. I am already annoyed and thoroughly confused but whatever. The sales associate proceeds to tell me that RL will just do what "I could do" (that is, mail the return myself). His tone indicated that I could just do this on my own, but I don't owe him an explanation for how I choose to process returns. However, his information is helpful, if somewhat surprising, because 100% of the other stores I have been to simply process the return in-store and I get the refund back immediately. But it doesn't matter; I just want to be rid of the merchandise, and frankly it was more of a hassle for me to go to a UPS store which is closed anyway on Sunday. Now I wish I had done the UPS drop-off because the sales associate had to handwrite each item I was returning and then calculate (via calculator) how much I was receiving back. Which he did, and took forever doing it. I left just barely able to make my lunch date but will think twice about buying from RL again. read more

I have been going to this store for over 30 years, the salespeople have always been top notch ! In reading the many negative reviews, they appear to be snots who are dressed like slobs and doing returns, which must plague RL because of the outlet items. Tomiko Lawless has been there for years and waits on us. My only gripe, is that the Beverly Hills store has a much better selection and better prices during sales. I bought my wife a black Alligator Ricky bag a few years ago, and concurrently shopped with Tomiko at the Costa Mesa store and she could not match the price. I even got another discount after I bought it and it ended up a fabulous deal. read more

This specific boutique is small compared to the one in Beverly Hills.The good thing is that it has great Purple Label selections.

After my interaction with Brian (manager's of the men's department) at this RL, they lost me and my husband as customers forever. We had to argue back and forth (and I had to make several phone calls) to resolve an issue with a $200 gym pant (which is a really cheap item comparing to what one would normally buy at high end boutiques). This was not a sale item either. Finally the issue was not even resolved to our satisfaction. RL lost us as customers forever. There are way too many other boutiques where we can spend our money, get better quality products and also much better customer service. With this level of service and product, it's best to look into outlet stores for RL. All in all, I am just shocked and will never go back to this store (or RL frankly). Very disappointing especially given that we did a lot of shopping last year in south coast & beverly hills and were treated like royalty by St John, Giorgio Armani, Dolce and Gabbana and several others. That's what one would except when you go to this caliber of store & pay full prices. read more
