Please figure out how to have at least 1 lane open. Having to use self checkout for an entire cart full of groceries was a huge pain in the butt. I had multiple employees and a manager look me in the eye and no one offered to open a lane for a full cart of groceries. It's 11pm, sure, but you're open and I needed help. When the self checkout machine forced us to receive employee help after we selected that we used 5 bags, no employee came and I had to walk up to the registers and ask for assistance. The store has gotten much better in terms of being out of things and restocking. I love the woman who works at Starbucks most mornings also.. she absolutely brightens my day. My complaint is with the staff at the front. There are multiple self checkout cashiers who are always friendly and helpful but also several who are not. It's really annoying. The several who are not appear to think they have way too much power over the customers and it's really stupid and annoying.... Like they should go work for TSA or think that they should anyways.... Just this morning I was turned away from self checkout and told to go wait in line in the regular aisle due to having alcohol. I have never been told this before. I even said to the guy I can't just check out with you? And he goes no not with alcohol (which is complete BS because I do it all the time). I was in line behind someone who had a cartful of things... like full... and the cashier was clearly nodding out and not awake due to whatever reason. They are probably still checking out... I went back and complained and the man working self checkout very angrily rang me up and I left. I told him I thought the cashier was on drugs and he laughed me off... he was a jerk... I need to probably go to Vons from now on. When I was a kid I worked at Longs Drugs and treating customers that way would have been considered unacceptable... This is my neighborhood Ralphs. I love it because most all the employees are very friendly and helpful. My 2.5 year old son loves it because they give away balloons at the register and there are ducks in the parking lot. Yes, a lot of ducks in the parking lot. If you don't believe me, I've uploaded 2 photos with proof. Store is very large and clean. There is a rack in the back with discounted items, which sometimes includes some half off baked goods. You have to shop the sales, which are plentiful, because the regular prices are a bit high. read more

Only Self Check-outs- BOOOOOOO - Save America Jobs!! Some of you may choose to use self check-outs buy I boycott them!! I will not let machines replace American Jobs!! This is the second time I go in the morning to store and you have employees all over the place and they can open a Register. I even explained to an employee I refuse to use self check out, they did nothing. Second time I waist 20 minutes shopping and have to leave my cart, which makes me go to the competition. There was no one in the front to assist anyone, I hate to give this store a bad review because I enjoy the cashiers and shopping there. Parents of Carlsbad...listen up. This store offers online order pick up of groceries curbside. Yes, you heard that right. Same day pick up and you don't have to get out of the car. Can I get a Hallelujah? You can order through their homepage or the Ralph's app and enter your preferred pick up date and time. When you arrive at the store you park in the assigned parking spots right up front and call the number on the sign to let them know you are there. They will bring out your order. No tips accepted but they love a good feedback. Life will never be the same. Tried it today with a sleeping baby in the car and it is the best thing ever. Thank you for the amazing customer service. Not sure what gives with only being able to use the debit feature of my debit/credit card. Manager told me it was my card's issuing bank's issue. The bank told me it was the store's issue which made more sense, as I can choose debit or credit anywhere else. Thankfully I learned the trick from a Ralph's cashier that if you insert the card into the chip reader with the wrong side three times, and then swipe it will override the system. If you're collecting miles like me, a good trick to know so share as you will. I'm guessing they're forcing the debit card to avoid retail credit card fees but who knows. Wish they'd just take Apple Pay and make life easier alot of shoppers. read more

This is my Go-To grocery store. Parking is easy and there is always plenty of it, even during busy holidays. This location has all the usual groceries you expect at a Ralphs and also some additional items that are targeted to the tourists and people staying at the nearby campground. They have firewood, ingredients for smores, coolers, beach toys, even Carlsbad t-Shirts for souvenirs. They also sell store made sushi, have a big deli, and sell roasted chicken, deli salads, and hot dishes like meatloaf, and they also have pizza slices and make sandwiches on the spot (They also carry Boar's Head deli meats". In addition they rent carpet cleaner machines, have a RedBox kiosk, a Coinstar kiosk, they sell purified water in 5 gallon bottles, and a Starbucks inside the store. Just everything that you need! Prices are also much better than at Vons, although you also need a club card to get the discounts. Club card is Free, ask during checkout if you do not have one, and they will kindly scan a card and give you the discounts even if you do not have one. ALso, this is a Kroger Supermarket, so if you have a club card from another grocery chain that belongs to Kroger in another state (Like King Soopers or City Market), your card works here as well! Points you earn on your grocery shopping gives you gas discounts at the local Shell gas stations. read more

I'm sad to give this store only 2stars because I have been a customer here forever and the wonderful team that works there are one of the BEST! However after the first month or two of the pandemic we have noticed this store manager is NOT taking the virus seriously and in fact is jeopardizing the health of many elderly shoppers who live across from the shopping center- the carts are definitely not being sanitized while he has signs saying they are sanitized!! We have seen the cart people just putting them in and no cleaning whatsoever! This is unethical to say the LEAST!!!! Frequently there are no wipes or the wipe holder is empty. There is no effort at limiting number of people in the store or do oak distancing and there are often not enough cashiers so people have to do their own checking out. Mr. Gabe this is shameful! Grocery stores are making money hand over fist and IT IS your responsibility to this community to run a safe and clean store!! Most expensive grocery store in the universe. Halfway decent selection of food. But probably double the price of what I pay in Orange County. I was camping at South Carlsbad campsite and was rushing out of the house. I thought, "hey, I'll just grab the salad stuff and some red wine near the campsite since we were trying to make a morning surf session." Huge f-ing mistake. I bought ingredients to make a spinach salad, two relatively cheap bottles of wine and a small salad from the salad bar. My bill? A whopping 80 dollars. So, I put my order on hold and frantically ran around the store swapping out items (7.99 wine became an embarrassing 3.99 wine; half the quantity of goat cheese was purchased, etc). I got my order down to 35. But still. Wow. The store gets mad props for the checkout lady, who was totally cool about the whole thing and didn't make me feel too humiliated by my current budgeting restrictions. read more

Our family arrived in Huntington Beach 1968. Just four blocks away was a wonderful Ralph's super market. Fresh produce was always mandatory on my shopping list and Ralph's served me well. It provided all my shopping needs, plus congenial employees and affordable prices. When our daughter reached working age, she was hired as an assistant checker. She stayed on until she went off to college. After living in that area seventeen years, we moved about the San Diego region. In Del Mar Highlands we enjoyed another great Ralphs, excellent food selections, fresh seafood, and a vibrant floral department. Then we moved to our present location, Carlsbad. Here again is our accommodating Ralph's, plus our favorite checker from Huntington Beach, Nadine! She was an unexpected prize. Happy day! This is my go to grocery store when I need to pick up items for work lunches or flowers or cards or something basically for work. I'm honestly not the biggest fan of Ralphs because in general I find their prices to be just a bit higher than the average grocery store that sells the same items. I do like this location though because their employees are extremely friendly and helpful. They also have a lot of variety in their deli section. Extremely clean store. Everything is fresh and readily available. Price is average as compared to other stores. Staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. They do what they can to help you out. I was looking for a specific air freshener and they didn't have it at the line I was in. The cashier ran to every one of the lines to look for the Capistrano Coconut air freshener I was looking for. I didn't even ask her to. In the end they didn't have it, but she was extremely helpful. Produce is fresh. Plenty of parking. They have a Starbucks inside too. read more

This woman maintains a great attitude even when the place is packed. Decent produce section. It's surprising the number of grocery stores who don't know better than that.It's way worth it to buy wine by six or more bottles here. 5 stars by virtue of having ribeye be 50% off. Here's how to do. Prep the ribeye by tenderly rubbing it down (ahh jyeah) with McCormick's Montreal Steak Seasoning. Get a resealable baggie and pour in like 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Place steak in the baggie. Squirt in as much Sriracha/rooster sauce as desired. Maybe a few dashes of Tabasco while you're at it, why not? Seal the bag and let it sit in the fridge for 1-3289523 hours. Grill it rare-med-rare. Brilliant MF steak. They only had 1 regular line open. The line was super long. My husband informed a manager about the line situation and was told someone was going to be back from lunch in a couple of minutes (at 8:50 PM). A minute later he came back and said they just opened lane 7 - another express lane! They already had the self checkouts and an express lane open! We didn't need more express lanes, we needed more regular lanes! It was seriously annoying. So we waited a good 10-15 minutes for the 1 regular lane that was open. Don't recommend. read more

We always shop at this Ralph's when we visit Carlsbad. Same brands as the Frys in Arizona and we still earn fuel points! They have a good selection of everything and the store is well laid out. The ONLY reason not 5 stars is the cashier we get, seems like every time we are there. Our receipt says her name is Tamara and "sales manager". Apparently she hates her job and every customer who walks in the door! Not a smile, "hello", did you find everything you need, nothing....just "enter your Ralph's number". What an unhappy, miserable employee! She needs to get a job with no contact with customers. And we are apparently not the only ones unhappy with "Tami", if you read the other reviews! read more

I really like this place. I've been to some ghetto Ralph's before and I'm giving this one 5 stars because of the service and the overall attitude of the staff in this store. Everyone here is just so gosh darn friendly and nice. I don't live in Carlsbad, but I work there and I always see the staff in the checkout lines warmly asking neighborhood customers how their day was, what's going on, what the surf is like, etc. Plus this place is always fully stocked, even on sale items. Whenever I go to my neighborhood Ralphs in UTC there's never any good produce left, and there's never any yogurt, especially if it's on sale. You can also get the attention of the deli workers here MUCH more easily than at other Ralphs. They'll come over and serve you with a smile. At other Ralph's I have to grab someone and try to convince them that it's worth my $5.99/lb salad to come over and scoop it out for me. Ralph's Trip #1: In town for Thanksgiving. My aunt, uncle & cousin all live closeby, & I needed some necessary supplies to bring as thanks for letting me crash & eat their food. They've got a nice selection of flower bouquets & a nicer selection of wine. Check. I used to hate this store but they did a full on remodel a few years ago and I really like it now. What do I like most? A complete selection of Boar's Head cold cuts and cheeses. A standalone Boar's Head refrigerator endcap. If you don't know what I mean by Boar's Head, well bummer for you. They will make you a custom sandwich right at the deli counter. $6.99 and you can pay right there. Get one with roasted red peppers and olive spread. Add chips and a drink for another buck. Then go to Subway and compare. No contest. Their meat section was never anything to rave about and still isn't but they have a pretty good produce section with a growing organic section. Nice beer selection as well, though not cheap. Most craft beers aren't. I actually get a lot of Ralph's Club coupons and cash vouchers which makes it more compelling to go back. This Ralph's is my neighborhood grocery store. The people who work here are always helpful and nice, whether it is at the check out stands, in the produce department or the deli department. Everyone is always happy to help any way they can. I can't, for the life of me, ever seem to pick out a good watermelon. A few times, when I did, they were bland, and they were happy to give me my money back, without any problem. Now, I just ask the produce guy to pick them out for me, and they always do, with a smile and a great attitude. The cashiers are all really great. A few of the ladies are really a kick- complimenting me on my outfits, and telling the other cashier ladies to check out how cute I look! They are darling! It's a great store- I've NEVER seen a cranky cashier or employee in there - not even one single time! By the way, the ducks in the parking lot just add one more fun aspect of this store! read more

The service at Ralphs has become terrible after the new labor agreement and the significant reduction in cashiers and employees to provide service. Today there was 1 cashier open and a long line. Everyone is forced to use self checkout which can't handle more than 15 items, every time I use it I have to get someone to come help clear an issue. After 20 years of being a loyal customer this is really bad. I complained to Destiny the Assistant Manager and was told to fill out a survey. No one knows how to provide service or contact corporate. Many of the employees you came to know over many years are gone. The entire attitude of the store is no longer friendly. Several other customers were also grumbling and complaining. They never did get a second cashier stand opened today when I was there. Ralphs is going to lose a lot of business and is no longer worth shopping at. read more

This store is fairly clean, vegetables and fruit are usually fresh. The location is close to my house and easily accessible from the freeway. The staff is friendly and I hardly ever have to wait in a line. I love cooking fresh fish and have tried to buy my seafood from their seafood department. But man oh man, time after time it is so old and stinky. Even after asking the employee to make sure it's the freshest I have still gotten old fish. It's just so disappointing to cook it and than to realize this thing is bad. Go to Pellys if you want fresh seafood. Before the renovation of this store I pretty much avoided it like the plague. The produce was always rotten. But now, this store is great! It has a great selection of nearly everything. The only downside is the cashiers always find a way to overcharge you for something. One day I bought like 4-5 items including 1 mango and the lady charged me for 25 mangoes making my total around $90. I said "Are you sure??" And she acted offended so she looked back and saw 25 mangoes on the screen and had to take them off. I've heard similar stories from friends. Make sure you watch them ring your items up! I get around that by using the self checkouts now since I never buy a lot from this store. Great cheese section. read more

I do Instacart and I needed two shopping carts for an order. Due to the busyness of the store and weight of the first cart I wasn't able to push both around at the same time so I left the first one in a corner of the store for a few minutes. I come back to it but it's nowhere to be found. I work at another grocery store myself and when someone leaves a cart for a while we put it in the back refrigerator. I figured this is what happened here so I asked a young staff member about it. He seemed very new to his job but was eager to help find out what happened. He went to the back to look for it and I asked another staff member by the front checkout in the meantime and she told me they had emptied it back onto the shelves due to people "stealing" full carts. I couldn't believe it. I told the original guy who helped me that I wanted management to know this isn't OK, I had about 70 items in the first card that took me an hour to find and that I won't get paid for it at this point. He didn't care and went off to do something else. No one fucking cared. This is unacceptable and I will not be returning to this store. read more

This has been my go-to grocery store since I moved to this area 6 years ago. I have spent SO much money at this store over the years strictly because of the convenience because I live close by. The good... it is a clean and organized store, and their produce section. They do offer good quality produce, but Costco prices are WAY less expensive. I have gone through many different experiences here.... where an employee treats me rudely, or I was over charged ( on already overpriced items), or some other bad experience like witnessing an employee wipe poop off of a toilet seat in the restroom with NO gloves on, only using a small piece of toilet paper. (GROSS) I have seen the managers deal with customer complaints very smugly. I have even been told by the checker that I (the customer) am supposed to calibrate the produce scales to make sure they're working properly. And lets not forget the time that there was chicken grease all over the floor near the rotisserie chicken station, causing me to slip in it and practically do the splits (in a sundress and flip flops). An employee down the isle saw me fall to the ground and laughed, then as she saw the look of disgust on my face she realized I wasn't on the floor doing the splits just for fun. Recently, Ralphs changed their lanes from having a few express lanes to now having 12 entire self checkout stations, and NO express lanes. So now we have to pay premium prices AND check ourselves out AND bag our groceries. And when the computer glitches and says "Help is on the way"... NO help is on the way, you have to track somebody down to clear the computer screen for no obviously good reason that it glitched to begin with. NOW... they are charging 50 cents to get cash back! So now they are taking MORE money from us. I have to come to realize that this place is nothing but an overpriced tourist trap and will become even more so once that hotel on the South Ponto bluffs is complete and the whole area across from South Ponto is developed. This store is horrible now. I am standing here at the checkout with one checkstand open and everyone else is required to do their own checking. If this were a Food 4 Less I would totally get it, but this is Ralph's where they charge a premium for most groceries compared to other stores. This store has had a lot of change over the past year and not for the better. The one shining star has been the staff...they are all wonderful people. This Ralph's is a bit bigger than the one by my house and lot big nicer too. It's much cleaner looking than the other Ralph's I'm familiar with (both Oceanside Blvds, Cannon Rd) and it actually has a functioning butcher's block (I know, "big" deal, but when the store doesn't have one, you might find you miss it). This one also has a broiler where you can get assorted chicken types (roasted, fried, etc), salad and olive bars, a sandwich making section, a coffee bean mini-counter, and more. Its the only store I've been able to find Siggi's Skyr (Icelandic yogurt, yum!) at so far so I'm definitely coming back! read more
