I do Instacart and I needed two shopping carts for an order. Due to the busyness of the store and weight of the first cart I wasn't able to push both around at the same time so I left the first one in a corner of the store for a few minutes. I come back to it but it's nowhere to be found. I work at another grocery store myself and when someone leaves a cart for a while we put it in the back refrigerator. I figured this is what happened here so I asked a young staff member about it. He seemed very new to his job but was eager to help find out what happened. He went to the back to look for it and I asked another staff member by the front checkout in the meantime and she told me they had emptied it back onto the shelves due to people "stealing" full carts. I couldn't believe it. I told the original guy who helped me that I wanted management to know this isn't OK, I had about 70 items in the first card that took me an hour to find and that I won't get paid for it at this point. He didn't care and went off to do something else. No one fucking cared. This is unacceptable and I will not be returning to this store. read more

This has been my go-to grocery store since I moved to this area 6 years ago. I have spent SO much money at this store over the years strictly because of the convenience because I live close by. The good... it is a clean and organized store, and their produce section. They do offer good quality produce, but Costco prices are WAY less expensive. I have gone through many different experiences here.... where an employee treats me rudely, or I was over charged ( on already overpriced items), or some other bad experience like witnessing an employee wipe poop off of a toilet seat in the restroom with NO gloves on, only using a small piece of toilet paper. (GROSS) I have seen the managers deal with customer complaints very smugly. I have even been told by the checker that I (the customer) am supposed to calibrate the produce scales to make sure they're working properly. And lets not forget the time that there was chicken grease all over the floor near the rotisserie chicken station, causing me to slip in it and practically do the splits (in a sundress and flip flops). An employee down the isle saw me fall to the ground and laughed, then as she saw the look of disgust on my face she realized I wasn't on the floor doing the splits just for fun. Recently, Ralphs changed their lanes from having a few express lanes to now having 12 entire self checkout stations, and NO express lanes. So now we have to pay premium prices AND check ourselves out AND bag our groceries. And when the computer glitches and says "Help is on the way"... NO help is on the way, you have to track somebody down to clear the computer screen for no obviously good reason that it glitched to begin with. NOW... they are charging 50 cents to get cash back! So now they are taking MORE money from us. I have to come to realize that this place is nothing but an overpriced tourist trap and will become even more so once that hotel on the South Ponto bluffs is complete and the whole area across from South Ponto is developed. This Ralph's is a bit bigger than the one by my house and lot big nicer too. It's much cleaner looking than the other Ralph's I'm familiar with (both Oceanside Blvds, Cannon Rd) and it actually has a functioning butcher's block (I know, "big" deal, but when the store doesn't have one, you might find you miss it). This one also has a broiler where you can get assorted chicken types (roasted, fried, etc), salad and olive bars, a sandwich making section, a coffee bean mini-counter, and more. Its the only store I've been able to find Siggi's Skyr (Icelandic yogurt, yum!) at so far so I'm definitely coming back! read more

This is one of the smaller Ralphs I've been to. And although I found everything I was looking for, they don't carry a lot of stock. By the manager's own admission, they are a smaller store so they don't keep a lot of stock on hand, or on the floor. I was looking for a certain sorbet that was on sale and they shelf was near empty with a very little selection available. The manager said to return the next day and they would have more. Well, I did and they didn't. So as far as options in town, you are limited so it will serve it's purpose and it looks like they are under construction to improve their service. read more

I couldn't be more pleased with the upgrade and total conversion of this Ralph's. According to the one of the workers in the store, the store has been made the flagship store in the area through the process of a 10 million dollar conversion. Highlights include an updated meat and fish market, an upgraded salad bar, expanded sandwich bar and hot foods, Coffee Bean coffee shop in the store, and an upgraded floral area to greet you as you walk in the door. As a Ralphs, this is a Ralphs at its best. Its the best one I've seen, the cleanest, and the staff are all super friendly and ready to help. They will even take the time to order things if you ask for new products. How does it get my 5th star? It takes the quality of the ready foods to that of a whole foods or harvest ranch? Do I expect it? No, but it would be celebrated if it could get there. But for Ralph's is the best around, and definately my grocery store of choice. Worth checking out. read more

When I lived over near Paseo del Norte this was the closest grocery store. It closed early and was so so. Now with its recent renovation, I give it a thumbs up for a big grocery store. They have a Coffee Bean and a bank. They also carry way more organic items and green cleaning products. You get credit for bringing your own bags. The deli has Boar's head, they have more soups, a salad bar and more hot foods. They double coupons and all the employees are really nice. When I need to go to a big box grocery store, I like it here more than the Vons across the street. I wish they carried La Brea Bakery bread and natural turkey breast in their deli like at the Ralphs off of Del Mar Heights Road. Those are the only downfalls for me. read more

This store is horrible now. I am standing here at the checkout with one checkstand open and everyone else is required to do their own checking. If this were a Food 4 Less I would totally get it, but this is Ralph's where they charge a premium for most groceries compared to other stores. This store has had a lot of change over the past year and not for the better. The one shining star has been the staff...they are all wonderful people. This is in regards to the Bakery. Disappointed is an understatement. I ordered a cake for my sons Baptism and although the cake tasted good, it looked horrible. When ordering, I showed the picture on the left to make sure they could replicate the cake. The girl said, Yeah of course we can make that! Not even close. I ended up cutting the cake right away so no one would notice. Save your money and invest in a high quality cake elsewhere. read more

Literally the rudest ladies ever at the deli. I asked her if I could have a croissant for the bread on my sandwich and she says we don't have croissants, I point to the one siting right in between us and she says I can't have it... like what the actual f***.... Whoever is the hiring manager at this store is sensational. The employees here are top notch. They all have excellent customer service skills and are genuine human beings. They are the reason I shop at this store. Today I was super busy and decided to try the "click and buy" where you purchase your groceries online and pick them up at the store. An employee brings them to you and everything. One of my items I accidentally ordered the wrong size and the nice lady went back in and grabbed me the appropriate size! I love shopping here! Prior to Covid my husband did the grocery shopping. He is older so we have opted to keep him socially distanced. I have found all of the staff extremely helpful and caring. This week Avis ( works at the Starbucks counter ) was extremely kind and went out of her way to care and resolve an issue. I am a nurse and was on my way in for a long shift. I love everything about this Ralph's, but the deli is so very slow. Management please up your game. You need to get more people working in the deli especially during the busy times. It took twenty minutes to get a pound of ham and 1/2 pound of cheese. There were two people working and they were each filling an order when I walked up. There was one other person ahead of me and she didn't get much. Twenty minutes is too long. However, when I left there must have been 10 people waiting to get their order filled! I love the Boar's head products and the quietly is great, but the deli needs to be managed better. read more

I come from Tucson, Az I visit here every year! 2nd grocery store today where I was asked if I would like my groceries in bags because there is a 10 cent charge per bag! This is my grocery store. I love this place because no matter what happens the managers are in it for excellent customer service. Even though Ralph's is a little more expensive than other national chains, it's familiar, solid staff, and has everything you need. Redbox inside, firewood if you need it, happy hour most weekends (yes you can try alcohol), and the most beautiful flowers you could ever need on short notice. It's a Ralph's. You know what to expect. Do NOT attempt to grab a "quick" drink at Starbucks because despite being the only customer waiting, it still takes about 15 minutes to receive a single drink. More than once I have had to instruct the employees as to what a Raspberry Mocha is, which is (btw) a Mocha with some pumps of Raspberry syrup; not exactly a brain buster... Greeted about 25% of the time after approaching the counter regardless of there being an employee present. The deli... oh my... Having *been* a manager of a Ralph's deli in the past I personally know what goes into running an effective deli. I also know just how hard it is to find fast, competent, and motivated employees to people this particular department, which always seems to be a revolving door of apathy and confusion. I extend to them my full empathy regarding that matter. However, I cannot overlook the amount of times an employee would walk by completely ignoring the growing herd of hungry customers. When inquiring as to what specials they currently have I am usually told: "it's on a sign somewhere, just read what's on the sign". Not an acceptable answer when working in a position which entails customer service. It's hit or miss though, you can ALWAYS tell when you are working with an experienced employee, which is like a breath of fresh air. Just prepare yourself to have patience and expect to wait. The rest of the store functions like every other Ralph's. They are extremely corporate and run things the same at every location so if you have ever been to any Ralph's you can apply your general impressions to this location for a pretty accurate depiction of what you can expect. read more

I don't shop here often (it's a little expensive when it comes to fruits and veggies).. But since it's close to us, I come here for things I need when I'm not making a huge shopping trip. It's convenient. But the reason I am writing this review is because the employees here are so sweet. Every time I come in, someone goes out of their way to small talk or just say hi. Honestly a really great experience. I was able to find everything without issue. I had my 2 kids with me and my son was melting. I was having to hold him and push my cart while trying to keep track of my daughter. I was on my way towards the checkout and Kelly asked if I wanted help and she pushed my cart to an empty line, had another employee come check me out AND she unloaded my cart. They are taking away all of the checkers and baggers but not the associated higher prices. One of the strengths here is the produce which is very difficult to get through the self-checkers. With Winco down the road now, time for this Ralph's location to make the hard choice of the service or price path. read more

By far the nicest employees of any grocery store I have ever been to. Being from out of town and having no Ralph's back home I had no idea where anything was. A young gentleman was sweeping when I asked him were something was and he made 100% sure that I got everything I needed. I wish I got his name but he was not the only great employee. I work nearby on occasion, and this is a nice grocery store. I can always count on these guys to have what I'm looking for at lunch. They have this amazing salad bar, with cooked tuna and salmon!!! Spinach, every salad item you could think of, kalamata olives, OMG! This place is dynamite. That's not the best part, the best part is... THE CARROT CAKE SLICES You can get a $2 slice of carrot cake that will curl your toes. Girls you know what I mean. It's got freaking cream cheese frosting, it's huge, it has real carrots in it, and pecans. If you're allergic, I'm sorry. It's good, way good. I always get a really healthy salad and a slice of cake for lunch. I know I'm breaking even health wise, but they must put heroine in that cake. It's THAT good! They also have a sushi bar (!), complete with on duty chef, a large delicatessen, a Starbucks, a florist, big inventory, huge seafood market, the list goes on. AND, if you have a Ralphs card the points stack for gas... I believe at Chevron. This place also has Rite Aid, Chase, another Starbucks, and many other locals nearby.
