Such a shame, That gave it another chance and they just have the laziest employees. No smiles, no hellos. The woman at the deli counter scared me... just barked at me " what do you need". Loud rude and no people skills. So sad as I live 10 minutes away. The girl at the Starbucks counter was most helpful when I needed an answer. I left my filled cart and walked out. Won't be back. I will not go to this location again - ever. (Notice that all the good reviews, except one, here are 2008 and earlier). I used to go here often when I lived in Venice. Now that I live in nearby Playa Del Rey, I still won't go here. It used to be good.........what happened? Well, this is what happened. Suddenly, the place got run-over by a bunch of "I don't give a shit, let's goof-off" high school kids (I hope they were high-school age; if they'd been college-kids, that makes it even sadder....). The place is like a high-school roller-skating outing, minus the roller skates and rink. In other words, kids (read: Staff) running around yelling greetings at each other (e.g. "Yeh, that was sum' wicked shit last night, homey!" "Hey, I don't give a fuck (and I quote directly) what she said!"), with inventory strewn all over the place. And when I stopped one of them to ask a question, they had this 'What-do-I-look-like-I-work-here????' expression. One reviewer wrote 'ghetto' (or similar) in his/her review. I do not disagree. What is 'ghetto'? I think in the 'parlance of our times', in 2010 urban America, it has gotten the connotation of low-income neighborhoods. However, the more accurate meaning is not on how much or little a person earns, but more the attitude that "I don't give a shit and I'm 'cool' no matter what I do." read more

Love this ralphs! Staff has always been friendly with me and they always have the essentials I need in stock. They even carry King's Hawaiian bread, which I can't always find at the admiralty location. What makes this ralphs stand out from the admiralty location besides their super friendly staff is the way they organize their items. It's vet user friendly and I can usually zip in and out of the store without having to search for any particular item for too long. Parking is convenient. There's always plenty of space out front. Minus one star only because it can be difficult to drive in and for their limited hours of operation. read more

This Ralph's is much better than some of the other one's in the area. The produce always seems quite fresh here. And they have a great selection of humus, fresh sushi, and cheeses - they carry brands and a bigger selection than some of the other Ralph's. And of course with the discount card, Ralph's has much better prices than Albertsons (which always seems overpriced, even with their discount card). Will continue shopping at this one. I've come into this store for the 4th Sunday in a row at 6am to get some bakery items for breakfast and it's the 4th time I've walked in here to see the bakery cabinet completely empty. I see about 6 people standing around talking to each other but nobody is baking. I asked the manager what the problem was and their answer was "we don't have anyone scheduled to do that". What?!?! I get 1 week, 2 weeks or even 3 weeks of not having enough staff, but to be 4 weeks without a baker is pathetic. read more

It still exists, it still exists! Wow, so I thought Ralphs had intelligently closed this store, as it's less than a mile from another Ralphs store and fewer than two miles from two other Ralphs stores. But apparently people on the West Side like Ralphs because not only is the chain not shutting down its stores it's turning them all into twenty-four-hour locations. Of the two Marina del Rey stores, this is the nicer one. Or at least it was from 1995 to 1999. That's when I lived in Westchester. Things may have changed, but I really don't think they have. And when I write "nicer," I mean "a place I'd rather visit." There are a lot of "nice" places and restaurants and stores that I find horribly annoying and pretentious. So by "nicer," I mean this store is less horribly annoying and pretentious than its counterpart on Admiralty Way. read more

Today my loose sweatpants accidentally fell off inside of Ralph's when I dropped an onion because I got a text and then tried to pick it up really fast. I was commando and a bit untamed. Everyone was super chill and didn't panic by the fact that I almost blinded the whole store. When I got to the register, the checker pretended like it never happened and had a nice big smile. Excellent customer service at this location! I want to write a personal review for John M. I had had a very difficult week and grocery shopping is my least favorite domestic necessity. In fact I dislike it so much it has become more of a sport as I run to the check out! John was kind and delightful he offered great service and made my experience worth while. I would return to this store again just to meet your wonderful staff. It is nice to find a "small town feel" in your neighborhood grocery store especially during these tough economical times. I shop for my 82 year old Mother. I am disabled. I often cry myself to sleep as I am in such pain and refuse to take opiates or any other pharmaceuticals. I don't need the rest of my body breaking down or an addiction. I have shopped at Ralph's for over 40 years now. I have always been pleased with the company until 10 weeks ago. I have repeatedly told management the disabled carts are broken. I have been stranded several times in back of store with a cart full of groceries and no one in sight to help. If I do not bring food to my Mother she will not eat. She is set in her ways and insists on Ralphs. Today the cart stranded me again in the store. I made my way to the front of the store with the two items I could carry. I told the cashier about the cart situation and he responded by saying its probably not charged. I then said its more than that, the carts stop moving in the middle of the aisle fully charged. He responded again, by saying he knew that. After checking out I walked toward the exit near the row of handicap parking spots. As I approached the door the guard had his keys out getting ready to lock the door and I said can I please get out this door. He said no go around to other door. I responded that I couldn't, I'm disabled. He again said no go to other door. I said I cant, but I can if you get me a disability cart. Of course he couldn't get me a cart because the only operational cart had a dead battery. I stood there with groceries in hand, frustrated and said open the bleeping door. Not my best moment. Some employee said they are calling the police. I responded please do knowing the officers would help me to my car. Of course no one called. I said I would stand there in that spot and wait for the police. The manager then said that if I calmed down she would open the door. I then said please do. It was 6:00pm. I walked to my car obviously limping severely while Being followed by that same guard. He then said something that I can't shake. He said you don't look handicapped. I responded can you repeat that. He said you heard me you don't look handicapped. Then he said your banned from the store. Assuming is not a good tactic in such a situation, yet I cant help but wonder If the guard hadn't already come to a conclusion about my abilities and that's why he chose not to open the door for me and then followed me out to say you don't look handicapped. A sad state of affairs to say the least. More will be revealed! I choose not to name the guard or manager. They know who they are. I write this in hopes that such a travesty does not occur again, especially to another who can not speak or stand up for themselves. read more

Well organized clean Ralph's location. They have a great bakery and the staff is awesome, friendly and helpful... much appreciated! I don't shop here often because I have a grocery store closer to home but when I do, I'm always well taken care of. They usually have multiple checkstands open and it's nice not to have to wait forever, especially if I'm just getting a few things. read more

This is our go-to grocery store, I probably visit this location 5 days a week. It's great, EXCEPT for the majority of the employees- the checkers in particular. Sometimes you get the angry large lady who ignores you when you say hello and give you dirty looks for no reason. Or you could get the kid that spends his time 'rapping' while packing your groceries- profanity included of course. Or if you're really lucky you could get the triple threat- three checkers all yelling back and forth about their plans for the weekend, or grocery store gossip all with full backed up lines. The funny thing is that the manager is usually one of the three. Compared to the Pavilions, Albertsons, Gelsons and Ralphs on Admiralty, this store has by far the worst customer service. Oh and the seafood department ALWAYS smells like old, stank, crabs. I highly recommend going across the street to Gelsons instead... trust me, your stomach will thank you later. Now, there are a few bright lights in this grocery clerk hell hole. Always make sure to hit their line on the way out. Oh- the Pharmacy here is awesome. So nice. read more

They did a huge makeover about a year ago...it's in Venice and the area is starting to be a lot safer! However, lots of homeless people hanging around and just yesterday witnessed an altercation with an individual that was definitely high on something loose his mind on an employee. They have a few security guards so it's safe... Great product section and excellent selection of booze. I noticed the beer is cheaper at Vons...example is the big Sapporos are $1.00 less at Bons when buying two. Great deli and salad bar...the seafood is marginal compared to Vons. This five star is not for the floor manager or supervisor but only for one excellent employee named Mike (produce). I was waiting at the floral department needing assistance and saw 5 group of managers just talking on the floor. I walked towards them and asked if I can get an assistance. This one manager told me "I'm sending someone right now". I was wondering why can't she just help me since comfortably looking very open. Well, I went back to the floral department and waited for 15 mins. No one came. As I saw the managers still talking on the floor. I saw mike busy working and hate to bother him but I went ahead. He then went to page, check if someone is coming then realized that no one is there. Then he just went and help me and even apologized that I waited. Wowwwwww. I expect that from a manager. Some cashier told me that the managers are making big fuss because the big president is coming. I hope the big president reads this. As the other managers were just standing and talking. read more

I've been coming to this Ralph's for 7 years and in the last year and half it has gone completely down hill. There has been so many new employees it's insane I know 2 transferred to the Ralph's on Venice but others must have left for a reason. This stores customer service is HORRIBLE!!! The cashiers they have now are beyond rude with NO personality. I don't need you to talk to me I just want to get my items and move on however a greeting would be nice as I approach the register and also a follow through as I'm checking out. Last night there was my final annoyance I was checking out with the new Asian lady at the register before I could get in-front of her because the last person she was checking out was still in front of her in the isle she asked with a annoyed tone if I had a Ralph's card I then told her yes I'll punch it in when I can and gestured that the man was still in the way getting his grocery's. Then she's fully done checking me out and I've paid and I had to stand there and wait for my receipt because another employee thought it was the right time to come and spark up conversation with her which she then started taking with another employee across the way all while I'm standing there just waiting to get my receipt!! Then to top it off I get home and I'm missing a product I purchased because they failed to put it in my bag! So now I have to make another trip out of my way to go get it since they failed to do there job right the 1st time. Corporate/ management you really need to take a close look at horrible service your providing I wouldn't be surprised if sales are down. This store has become such a disappointment my husband used to know all the employees prior that where friendly and helpful now it's just chaos. read more

Every time I come in here I hope for a better experience but yet I keep losing faith in your customer service representative's. I think tonight was a breaking point for me and I won't be returning to this grocery store. I went to purchase some items from the deli this evening upon entering the store I realized it was getting close to the department closing so there would be a huge line for last minute buys. So I decided to use the restroom real quick and wash my hands until the line died out a little bit. Almost 2 minutes after I entered into the restroom the courtesy clerk was rapidly beating on the door to get inside the restroom to clean whatever mess. I am sorry I am not a boy i use the restroom sitting down and it takes me longer than two minutes to use the restroom. This shit head went and got the security guard to get me out of the restroom sooner so he could sweep!! Are you kidding me??? Is that what you do when you're in a hurry??? That was so beyond rude I couldn't even believe it!! Here I am trying to use the facility and this guy is just in a hurry to do his job and doesn't give a rats ass if I'm using the restroom!! The security guard would not leave the restroom until she saw me physically get out of the stall and wash my hands now I'm having to be escorted out of the restroom because of this guy??? I worked in grocery for three years my father worked in grocery for 19 years, it doesn't matter how long the customer stays in the restroom you sit there and you either wait till they are done or pick a different task to complete and come back afterwards!! When I exited out of the bathroom the clerk was standing there with a smug grin on his face like "ha ha I got my way" who the hell does that what are you five??? I honestly felt like giving him a piece of my damn mind but I needed to get my dinner and get home since there were people waiting for me. I went back to the deli to just finish grabbing my salad and the deli clerk look like he hated his life! I know no one "loves" their job but you're supposed to put on a smiling face and greet each customer with a "hello how are you doing this evening how can I help?" But no I got a "what do you want" I pointed to a cucumber tomato salad and said "May I please get a medium?" he grumpily grabbed the medium container and just started shoveling food into the container like each spoonful was filled with hate for his job. He filled the container just a little over half didn't ask me if that was enough or if I wanted less took the assumption that that's how much I wanted and that's how much I was going to get gave it to me and walked away. Does your company not properly train your employees on how to respect customer's? You must have some of the lowest secret shopper scores in your district! When I worked in grocery I never received less than a five stars across-the-board and it never mattered how bad of a day I was having! Maybe you guys should consider re-training some of your employees on how to properly handle customers and what Customer Service actually is... this is by far some of the worst customer service I have experienced. read more

Located at the end of the 90 freeway & Lincoln Blvd in Marina del Rey. Above average when it comes to a chain grocery store. This store was remodeled about a year ago. Very clean store. Wide aisles. Well stocked store (I usually shop either Tues. or Wed. night). In-store pharmacy & Downey Savings branch. Good number of cashiers and baggers to keep the checkout lines moving. Easy parking. I look for the specials with the Ralphs Club card...you can save about 20-25% overall off your bill this way. I've been a regular customer for over 12 years when it was an Alpha Beta back then. read more

Even though there's another Ralph's around the corner & 3 blocks down, I ALWAYS go to this place for staple food stuffs! It feels like A Gelson's (which, btw is across from the icky Ralph's at Maxella), since the re-modeling especially. Sometimes the stuff moves around (my dog's food has been in 3 different locattions so far...), but it's nice, the staff is usually cool (once in awhile, though, there's the cashier from hell), and the meats are pretty good if I want to venture past my locale (see Alan's Market). The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is def. a plus, not having to wait at the "other" place right outside the entrance and like 3 doors down (rhymes with "Schmarschmucks")...all in all, a classier-than-most Ralph's that I don't mind going to! Great salad bar/deli and selection of actually "fresh" fare! read more

The store is clean, well organized and certainly convenient to where I live. In fact, I rarely stock my fridge because this place is so close. But, while it's passing, it's also not exceptional. Perhaps I've been spoiled by Whole Foods too much. In any case, the prices seems fair for the area and the items easy to find. I quibble a bit with the flowers as they are often at the tail end of their usefulness and have often stopped in to purchase an arrangement, only to leave empty handed. The produce is well attended to; the meat and fish area is attractive. Heck, you'd think that the marina is full of drunks with the well-appointed liquor section. The other negatives include having a few too many homeless around. I've seen them literally set up camp behind the store. So, if you're a single woman, perhaps exercise caution if you shop in the dark. But, otherwise, I'm glad they're in the neighborhood. read more

This Review is based upon my visit yesterday. i work very close to ralphs so at some point during the day i go in there. yesterday morning i was running late so i forgot my wallet at home. I did have my checkbook with my ohio license in it. so i went to ralphs to get my coffee and lunch for the day. So once its time to check out i start writing a check to pay for my food. when i gave it to the cashier with my ohio license she says she cant take it because its an out of state license! so I told her that i have never heard of such a thing, than i explained that i have a california license but i forgot my wallet. I also told her that im in her store almost everyday (she has seen me and checked me out on may occasions) and i used my bank card with my name on it, my bank is out here and i know my license number by hard. she just said no and handed me my check back. I was totally pissed at this point because 1. people were behind me 2. i was going to be late for work now, 3. im a regular customer and 4. i was hungry and didnt have any cash or cards to buy food. the stuff was only like 6 bucks she could have let it go but she didnt. on my way out the woman that was behind me offerred me some money and said how wrong i was treated. Love it. Close to where I live (I just walk over). Pretty large location with a great assortment of food and non-food items. Open 24 hours! Easy self-check out and smiley staff. It has a large parking lot too for those that need to drive on over. read more

This is my favorite Ralphs store & it would have gotten 5 stars except for the fact that... The service at the meat/ seafood counter is the worse I have seen in any market, any place, any time. There's rarely anyone actually there, & I don't think the "press for service" call-button is even hooked up because no one ever responds to it. Ever. And if one of the clerks is in the area they will look past & ignore you until you make it absolutely clear that you're not standing at the counter because you have nothing better to do. I went in there at 5:30 last evening, waited & waited for "service", then was told by one of the store workers that the 2 counter workers had gone to lunch & didn't know when they'd be back. Doesn't it seem logical that you might want to have at least one clerk working while people are getting off work? I have complained to management at least 4 times now. One day I had to wait my turn to complain while another customer was bitching about the same awful service, or lack of. Then the manager(s) will look at you like they're flabbergasted that something like this could happen before they get on the p.a. & call for someone to get over there. Unbelievable. read more
