One of the rare times I've ever done a d-ck move just because Ralph's pissed me off. They sent me this offer, that if I spent $100, I would get $20 off a home delivery order. So being me, I of course ordered $105 worth of groceries. What is supposed to be a time saver turns into an ordeal because you start getting never-ending texts about everything that they don't have in stock and they wanna substitute this or that and this isn't available and all of this nonsense so in the end my bill came out to just under $100 which made it full price and because they couldn't just handle it over the phone and just give me my $20, I actually ended up just returning the whole order so now they get to put it all away and that's what bad customer service gets you. read more

Go here if you want food poisoning. This is also a big neighborhood favorite of those who enjoy throwing money away. I should not be surprised given that this store is located in such close proximity to California State University San Marcos, however, as a new resident within 5 minutes drive time busy single mother I find that twice within the last two weeks I have visited the store and received something well beyond spoiled. The very first night that I spent in my new residence I ventured out to grab a few things necessary for survival and naturally, the rotisserie chickens were high on my list, unfortunately although they were on display when I walked in the door and the store is still going to be open for another 40 minutes all of them rotisserie chickens were taken to the back when I returned up to the front to check out and when I asked the three dudes, just shooting the breeze at the front of the store they all looked at me like I was crazy and said that they're closing up so they put them away for the night. I get it it's late do you wanna go home? Can you put the rotisserie chickens away no problem you don't wanna stay after the door is closed to deal with things like that but for me I was disappointed. We went home empty-handed as everything else I picked out was to accompany my plans for this rotisserie chicken, including making a broth with the carcass, etc.. About a week later I decided to give it another shot came in a little earlier right around 7:30 PM or 8 PM ordering 2 pounds of raw shrimp with shells and heads that were deveined and at an excellent price so I had to ask what was up and the butcher said that they just got them in and that they should be fresh for a few days. I immediately took them home and refrigerated them for our meal the following day. This was pretending to be a little bit of a celebratory feast for myself and my son upon our possession of the property, but live to our extreme disappointment. The shrimp hadn't even been in our refrigerator for 24 hours. It was all fluffy and super strong smelling, we tried to wash them, but they were rank and slimy. Luckily, we were able to get our credit back, but it was quite annoying because I called immediately was told that I could get the refund and not to worry about bringing this back so I took photos and videos of the shrimp the wrapper everything finally this guy let me have 30 bucks back so that I could drive a few extra miles and go to Sprouts from now on. read more

So I thought I'd give Ralph's another chance. It's the closest grocery store to my house . Nope. My God, what is wrong with this place? I can't tell you how many times I've gotten up to the deli and waited there 10!to 15 minutes before even an acknowledgment. They have like zero situational awareness. There's three people back there they don't even look up and there's two people standing waiting to be told hello and what can I get you? And forget about friendliness there's no hi. How are you or happy time this is what can I get you, like you woke them from a nap. These people are in a flipping coma. And I'm not saying that lightly it's like all of them. From people working in the aisles to the cashiers to the deli station. BIZARRE. Twilight zone shit. it's almost like you've entered some weird portal. Nobody's happy and they definitely aren't happy to see you and they definitely don't like their job in any way shape or form.. I mean when you hire somebody, don't you make sure they're a little bit personable? Is it that hard to find somebody that actually likes other human beings? Like how do you get that many people to be that comatose? I was just there at about 520 and I tell you there was not that many people in there. And usually every time before there is. The lines are usually way far back. I think the whole community realizes this is just a crappy store and if you have to drive up the street to Albertsons. Do it. I got my bare minimum that I needed and got out of that place as fast as possible. It's a horrible vibe. read more

If you're a super ultra reform Jew (like me!) and do juuuuust the bare minimum for the holidays, you'll find everything you need at Ralph's. Ralph's is the furthest grocery store from me but they have the largest kosher section. Now, I don't keep kosher, not even on the holidays but I know if I need something, I'll find it here. In years past, I've always been able to find matzo meal and challah even on the day of the holidays. They usually bake their own challah, but this year for Rosh Hashanah, I was only able to find Bread and Cie. Their stuff is good too! There's a sign up...Challah is available on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I used the self checkout and it was easy peasy. The self checkout clerk wished us a nice day as we left. They're located in a huge strip mall so grab parking wherever you can find it. The store is bright and clean. There's a Starbucks inside if that's your thing. 4 stars! read more

I'm not sure what happened to this Ralph's.... I know it's in the process of a remodel but man, it's really gone downhill! I've been shopping here for 30 years and it used to be a really nice grocery store! That's all gone downhill! First of all, everyone working there looks miserable! No one greets you, smiles or is friendly like they used to be. They have laundry detergent, shampoos and vitamins behind security doors now and it's own separate cashier!? Products are stacked so high now that you can't reach anything and it's so dark except for the new produce remodel area! Light up the place and get some energy in there for goodness sake! This Ralphs recently underwent changes to the layout. They put the spirits in lock boxes and partitioned off the personal care items so now you must buy them with a clerk in that area before leaving. The lighting makes me feel like I'm at an office rather than a neighborhood grocer, and I don't like the sacrine corporate signage about feeding the soul. The flow of the store doesn't make any sense and the extra security measures don't make me feel welcome. Additionally, I'm not going to go through the hassle and have two checkout experiences to buy these items from them when I can shop elsewhere and not feel like I'm being surveilled. They have also eliminated items I previously purchased rather regularly. Additionally, they don't have many things I would want such as half size containers of specific dairy products, certain flavors of things, etc. I now go to other stores to get these items. I'm disappointed in the changes and general feel of this store. This is the closest grocery store to me, but I'm going to try and spend my money elsewhere. I don't like this store. read more

I usually always have a great experience here, but lately, I have been noticing a continuing trend of false price advertising. Many times, I will see a "price with card" price listed on the shelf, but when I get to checkout, it still charges me full price. Sadly, most of the time I don't catch it until I get home. What really makes the situation harder is that returning things in this store is a pain, because you have to return it in a regular checkout line. The idea of waiting in line behind 3 people with full carts to return ONE item makes you not want to even go through with the return....as a result I always have to chat online with customer service and each time, they confirm the store incorrectly charged me. I can't say I'm surprised this is happening from a company that admitted to price gouging. read more

DO NOT ORDER A CUSTOM cake from here!!! I recently ordered a custom cake from Ralph's Bakery for my sons high school graduation party with a college logo. I uploaded the logo on their site and provided specific notes requesting deep purple for both the piping and the logo itself. They confirmed the design based on the picture I provided. By far the worst grocery store in San Marcos. Walking distance from my home but so poorly managed. Out of stocks are rampant, don't even bother going holiday shopping there, half the ingredients won't be available. The self-checkout is so hilariously disorganized and slower than hell. They stopped carrying plastic bags at the checkout and now you have to shout over the constant din for the rude assistant to hand you a flimsy paper one. Today was the last time I will ever shop at this location due to it having no plastic bags, and my paper one exploding in my hands sending my lunch to fall over the floor. first off its my birthday weekend i go to store and buy my own party to take home. hey, happy birthday to me !! so i know the store pretty well since i shop it more then twice a week maybe three time s per week. i usually go thur the self check because most ppl who work there are not very happy. with good reason im sure steven the manager is always in store its rare that he is not at the self check daily. heavy set guy tall grumpy a different look each week. really i dont care about i just want to buy my stuff and go home. today im checking out i never ask for his help because i check out at the other end of store . but, today i checked out at his area. so i got all my stuff scanned and waiting for pay when i try to look up "red tomatoe" no place on the look up item does it have red tomatoe but, 10 other kinds are listed. so he says only way to get the items is if i walk all the way back over and get a price check and name on the listed tomatoes. so i didnt gave it back to him . he couldnt leave his post he couldnt call someone over but, can spend time with other ppl talking about things he does like music or what have you. i walked back over scanned the image on my phone and showed him it just says red tomatoe! he says a fake sorry bout that. anyway im sure it doesnt matter to store owners or district because with all the complaints hes still here. btw items are raised in price now and to still get rude ppl is very sad i have the picture but, i didnt upload from my phone red tomatoes 2.99 per and lots of nats on all produce . read more

Another amazing visit to Ralph's! Came in for Mother's Day Flowers and was helped by a great team. Yes, it was busy. Yes, it was pricey. Yes, I waited last minute but that's why I'm always impressed with the floral team at this location. Left with two dozen roses and vases with extra decor for two special women in my life. My mother in law and my wife's grandmother. Do they need roses? No. Did they appreciate it? Yes. Will they last a week? Probably not but the thought and appreciation will. Thanks again Ralph's for providing a great selection and excellent service. I'll be back again next year if not sooner! I'll add, the place was clean and organized. The Covid-19 safeguarding is evident. They have done their best to make sure shoppers and employees feel safe. read more

This is my usual Ralphs location but today I was left in discust about the cleanliness of the meat department I picked up a pack of chicken breadt and it was covered in some kind of ooze. Love this Ralph's! I needed to get to a Ralph's after dark with my kids and didn't want to go to the Escondido one since that parking lot is sketchy at night. This parking lot is a lot more spacious and well-lit and has a pedestrian walkway which already makes it better and more family-friendly in my book, and to top it off didn't have anyone loitering in the parking lot with questionable intentions. When I walked into the store, I was impressed by how big it was compared to the other Ralph's, and clean! Definitely felt more comfortable there and like I could walk around without crashing into anyone. I found all the items I was looking for including one item that I'd been looking at other stores for for weeks. Self-checkout was a breeze and I was in and out super quick. I didn't interact with any of the employees so can't really speak to the service but all in all I would definitely come back here just from a safety standpoint alone. read more

Bad visit - multiple issues. I usually really like this store but it was really off yesterday. First, I went to get the 8-piece fried chicken. There was a sign for a special saying 2 times 8-piece baked chicken or chicken tenders for $12. However, when I was finally waited on, the clerk asked if I wanted the $12 special. I pointed out that the sign did not include fried chicken but she insisted it was so I said ok. She gave me the two bag of 8-piece that were each marked $7-something but told me that when they were rung up, it would fix the price. Well, that didn't happen. I explained to the check-out person and after a bit of back-and-forth, she did give me the $12 price but it took her a while to get it all correct. Next, there were no baggers at all. This was Friday at 5pm which should be a busy time. Oh well. Finally, when I got home, I was hungry and opened one of the bags of chicken. First, there were no drumsticks - they were replaced with wings. I would have been ok if I was told this but was not. This is for the bakery department. I called in to verify my cake order and was told they couldn't do a certain type of border on my cake. I gave a suggestion (only because I was a cake decorator at a Ralph's a few years ago so I knew it was and easy task) and was told she could do it. Well, it wasn't done. Also asked for marble cake and got half chocolate and half vanilla. Asked for sprinkles and that wasn't put on the cake so I had to buy my own. If changes were going to be made I should've received a call. Plus the lady who I spoke to on the phone needs to work on her customer service. Well, as of today, I will no longer be shopping at this Ralph's. Jacob was absolutely rude in our interaction. He needs to learn people skills and remember that tho he is young, he does not know it all, nor is he the Gestapo, he appears to enjoy emulating. Secondly, it is ridiculous that they make you bag your own groceries when you bring in your own bags. So not only does one have to take the items from the cart; but they must bag them; and then pay for them...and do it all quickly, please. I will say that after a bit, the cashier did have one of the employees set my items on the belt, but I still marvel as to the lack of help/effort they are willing to put out. Thus, having had much better service in other grocery stores, I will now take my business to them. You may have a pretty store, Ralph's...but without the quality service that is expected for the customer, you have nothing. read more

My go to Ralph's store. Clean and helpful, nice cashiers and managers. Minus stars because I've had some incidents regarding the Ralph's coupon app and receipt not matching up, as well as a meat purchase I made months ago and never addressed. I bought bone in rib roast and when I removed the packaging, the bone was mistakenly cut out and tied back in. So basically, I paid for a half pound bone that wasn't going to be cooked.
