Food is often expired, thought it was a 1 time thing but it has happened a few times now and happened again today and I am talking about nearly 2 months expired! I can understand a couple days, but clearly someone should be fired here. Getting cash back requires $5 minimum purchase whereas other stores you can buy something for 25 cents or less and get cash back. I say this too because their ATM here is terrible. I needed a cake and have always gotten positive feedback from the vanilla cake with whipped frosting that staters has. Usually, with lovely decorations too, which is why I tried a grocery store cake in the first place. So, I went in to find a small cake on 9/15/24 They had a decent selection but the colors were pretty obnoxious (green,blue colors great for kids but not adults) with the exception of one. It was white with red edging and plastic balloons. The woman behind the counter pulled it out for me and I asked if the balloons could be replaced and happy birthday be written on it. She acted like it would be no problem and took the cake to the back to decorate. She returned with the cake in a sealed box which I had a moment of hesitation about but brushed it off. When I got home I opened it up to peek at it and was taken aback at the terrible job she did. It looked like a child had decorated it and it wasn't centered (see picture) There was nothing I could do at that point. I was so embarrassed to give it to my friend. Luckily she had a sense of humor about it. I really wish the girl would have told me she couldn't do it or wasn't comfortable and at the very least showed it to me before she sealed it up (I've learned my lesson). The best cakes I have gotten have been in at the Encinitas location, so in the future that will be my choice. Really disappointing experience. read more

The place where the bean sprouts are produced, they use unclean processing equipment so the top of the bean sprouts are black due to bacteria. A year ago, I reported to the cashier here about these unclean bean sprouts but until now the bean sprouts are still being sold. Rude employees mean I spend my money elsewhere! DO NOT shop here. Employees could care less. Asked for some very simple help from the guy at the meat counter when I asked for some Crab Legs that weren't sitting out all day, the employee threw a mini tantrum with his arms as he lazily walked inside the the freezer door, acted like he was looking for something and then came back and said "this is what got man take it or leave it," then just went back to talking to the other employee about getting a new job. The personalities of the employees, well let's just say that they know the customers very well! It's organized in my opinion the store, in a way to really get impulse shoppers to want stuff they wouldn't really put on their grocery list. I think you can infer what I mean by this. If not let me explain, you walk in and there's like different cases of beer to your left, lots of salty stuff to your right and you have to walk down the entrance of this before you even reach the inside of the store. Here's a little tidbit: they can make strawberry pies if you call ahead to the bakery. Ok, many may have already known that but I was surprised to find out that you can pre-order more than just cakes. The strawberry pie does not contain egg so that's my go-to for egg free desserts for my kiddos. It takes about 30 mins to make so I shop around until they're done. Easy peasy! I have been going to this store for over a year and a half now and can't say how happy I am with the customer service and products they carry l. One of the biggest highlights however is the meat department they have. Whenever I have a bbq or holiday dinner there is no other place for me that suffices. All the staff in the meat department are great but I do have to admit the go to employee I always seek out is Anthony B. He goes above and beyond customer service and has always recommended the best cuts for the occasion. The guy also has a fantastic attitude and is always cheerful. I will literally change the hours I go to the store to make sure he is on the clock when I make my selections. Great store with a great product. Cashiers cannot figure out how to scan items, stockers do not check for expired dates and courtesy clerks have trouble grasping concepts like weight and gravity. The store is clean and the associates are helpful with getting groceries out to the car for me when I have tons of soda, waters, juices, and other heavy items to get out to my car. I moved in across the street. I enjoy this store as it is not only convenient, but the employees are TYPICALLY exceptionally nice and helpful. The store is stocked, clean, and organized. My encounter today, and the encounter I'm sure those in the line both ahead of me and behind me, would have to say - that the woman Crystal/Christina (I think her name was) who was (not)helping at the register, was so passive aggressive and disrespectful, that it actually makes me wonder who in their right mind hired her. She was rude. And her attitude was obnoxious. I have never seen her here before. This is the store I came to, too late, and was helped by a gentleman behind the counter of the deli for a cake (after obviously washing his hands). This is the store I regularly attend that I'm typically greeted with a hello and bye, with a sincere smile regardless of how the staff may have been feeling that day. Crystal is obviously not the embodiment of customer service that your company typically upholds. She was degrading, amplifying whatever she was going through, and was pushing it on the customers. I'd reevaluate her presence given that she is toxic to your work environment. read more

Shop at your own risk. We filled up a shopping cart and then they announced that unless you had cash or a check, the registers wouldn't accept a cc. I asked if there was an ATM nearby. We would need to leave the store. I asked how long to resolve the problem. 10 minutes they said. No big deal right? Wrong. We cruised around the store wasting time, we waited by the register. Still not fixed at least 20 minutes later. Finally someone else walked up and asked how much longer until the problem is resolved. They said 10 minutes. We left. What an epic time waste. I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN THIS LOCATION EVER AGAIN!! This use to be my local grocery store because it's conveniently right down the street from my house. I have a son so I come here weekly to re-stock on snacks and school meals for the week. Usually I would grab a basket walking in but since it's Friday I just assumed I would grab a couple weekend items. Well of course I see a bunch of deals so both arms are full and some things start falling out of my hands. There were no empty baskets around so I knew I had to walk back to the front to grab a basket, as other customers were walking in I proceeded to grab a basket but before I could a employee named CHRIS stopped me and said "ARE U GUNNA PAY FOR THAT"! I was SPEECHLESS not only embarrassed but I see another employee Dakota bagging groceries laughing. I looked at him and I looked at the baskets and told him I was grabbing a basket because they are all IN FRONT OF THE STORE! I wasn't even by the FRONT DOOR BEFORE HE STOPPED ME!! It was so embarrassing and for other people to tell me to go talk to a manager because they saw what happened I knew this guy not only stereotyped me but when I got a basket and proceeded to shop he was right by me and with a smirk on his face!!! IVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS EVERRRRR LIVING HERE ALL MY LIFE! For Christ sakes he really thought I was walking on with some fruit snacks knowing I come here every other day!!!! When a situation arises where a stop at Stater Brothers, or any mass-market grocery store is required -- go in with an understanding that it's us versus them, and the game is rigged in their favor to sell stuff without any prior intention of buying. The store and shelf layouts are not about making the store work for you, the shopper. It's about making you work for the store's benefit to maximize profits. The layout is based on sales data, scientific research and even psychology. That's right, you are the mouse in the maze looking for the cheese. So we need to have an understanding and a stepped/up game-- in case we're ever forced to be this mouse again. Fresh flowers, produce, bakery, and other nice-smelling stuff near the entrance tries to put you in a giddy mood to shop. Staple items are placed at the very back of the store so you have to walk past all of the tempting items you don't need. Candy, chips, sugary cereal, cookies and other highly advertised products are kid-reachable in almost every aisle, mid-shelf. Bulk items, sale items, healthy items, and the items that you're looking for will be up top, or down below. If you keep in mind that the most profitable items are in the "thigh-to-eye" zone where you'll will see them first, you won't leave the store with a basket full of stuff that they wanted you to buy. read more

Not all Stater Bros are created equal. Unlike his 5-star little brother up this street, this store is a bit of an underachiever. I won't go so far as to call him the black sheep of the family (that title is reserved for the one in Escondido), but he's definitely brought his share of disappointed hopes into the family. The cashiers I've encountered here have all been friendly and competent, but there are not enough of them. The lines here become ridiculously long, yet they never seem to open more than two or three of the check stands at a time. This store does still have its great 30% off 4 or more deal on wine, but not as nice of a selection as his more accomplished siblings. It's got the same reasonable prices on produce and canned/dried goods, but again the selection is lacking. There is an absence of the harder to find items and produce that its brother store up the street carries in abundance. The meat selection and quality itself IS still comparable to its more accomplished brothers', but unfortunately it suffers from the same shortage of staff that plagues the check stands. I will often be standing for over 10 minutes waiting for the one butcher who is actually helping people, while a second butcher in the back purposely avoids making eye contact with any of the waiting customers lest he risk being interrupted from whatever it is he's doing. Unfortunately, the friendliness and helpfulness of the butchers is lacking as well. Attempts at polite small talk have been ignored, questions about the cut or cooking method have been brushed off, and apparently smiles/hellos/thank yous are not included in the price. I only come here if it's on my way AND I only have one or two things to get. If it's any more than that, it's worth the extra 4 mile drive out of my way to shop at the Bressi Ranch location. read more

Love how close this stater bros location is to my home. Produce, meat, and deli always have a great selection and I never have any issues until it comes to check out. I've been helped out twice by Dana S. & I can't help but notice how warm and friendly she is with customers before me but when it's my turn to check out she's cold and short. The gentleman before me she welcomed with a "hi how are you?" Even though he was on the phone. With me, I only received a "would you like a bag?" She handed me my receipt and rushed me along only to warmly greet the couple after me. I'm not sure if it's a race thing or an age thing, but I did not feel welcomed with our interaction. read more
