My brother and I saw this on yelp, and was wondering if you can find authentic Japanese ramen in Banff of all places. The answer is YES, the folks working here are Japanese and knew how to sling some good ramen. They had some interesting flavors but I really like their signature, which is a sesame oil based with pork. The broth was rich, flavorful, and had that bone broth flavor with complex flavors, it was all amazing. We all left satisfied and would get ramen here anytime. read more

As a visitor here in Banff, my cousins and I were looking for soup; the ultimate comfort dish. Glad to see that Banff has ramen to offer. If it's your first time here it can be a little difficult place to find. The restaurant is not that big and the wait-list is based from the entrance and the benches along the walls. The menu is pretty straight forward and liked how they offered various styles of broth as well as vegetarian ramen bowl options. As far as the quality it's not the best but it does the job. The portions could be better especially for the high price on such a small bowl. No complaints on the service here. I'd come back here especially since it's the only decent ramen spot in Banff. read more

It's not a fancy place but the open kitchen and small space makes it feel as authentic as the food they serve. We had the Arashi and Spicy Tonkatsu and they are two different kinds of ramen soup but both were amazing. read more

Stopped by after a moderate hike in Banff, it is a very small place located inside the Sundance mall in downtown. This place was amazing. We got there a little before noon, and luckily didn't have a long wait, but the line got really long right after us. I especially liked the black sesame option, it was very different, salty and spicy. I also liked that the kitchen was open. read more

One of the best place to eat in Banff. Located on the 2 floor. You walk inside the building and then go up the stair case near the Koran Restaurant. Service was great very friendly people. Dropped by Ramen Arashi on our trip to Banff, the chef is from Japan, and the service here was very efficient. We ordered the Shoyu, Miso + Arashi tan tan. We found the Miso to be exceptionally delicious ! The texture of the noodles were perfect, and the soups were not salty like many other ramen shops. Considering that they are located in a national park in Canada, this restaurant is definitely deserving of 5 stars. We came here because I wanted something light and quick before attempting to try fat tire biking for the first time. Surprisingly, it's a very authentic place. We got the arashi ramen, vegetarian black sesame soup, and tako yaki. I opted for the vegetarian option because I didnt want to feel bogged down with sodium just before exercising. It was done really well but I wouldn't order it again just based on personal preference...the black sesame tasted too much like dessert to me. And that's just because I've had too much black sesame in desserts lately. I'd go back without a doubt to try any of their other dishes. The arashi ramen was very good. Broth was rich and flavorful. Came with about 2-3 pieces of meat. The tako yaki was excellent. It was cooked very well and topped with the usual fixings. The ramen and takoyaki were similar to what you'd expect at other authentic Japanese restaurants. If we had more time, I would have loved to come back and try their rice dishes and other appetizers. Definitely worth trying and comparable to any good Japanese restaurant you'd find outside of a national park. Prices are also very reasonable compared to the rest of the pubs and what not in the area. read more

On a relative basis, a reasonably priced, low-cost meal in the area. We came around 7 PM as a party of two and luckily was quoted only a 15 minute wait time as the next in line (maybe being upstairs helps keep the crowd small); the line grew much more quickly while we ate. Our ramen bowls were decent, nothing spectacular, but given the reasonable wait time and the absolute cost (especially compared to the nearby Chinese/Thai restaurant), it's a fine low-cost meal for the area. read more

With the pandemic restrictions, we ordered takeout from Ramen Arashi and walked back to our vehicle to eat our ramen. The Black Arashi Tantan Men I ordered was flavourful. The only thing to note was that the noodles were overcooked. The noodles were not kept separately from the broth. Our vehicle was parked a short distance from the restaurant, so the noodles didn't soak in the soup for long. read more

This is a belated review but this place is so memorable even after a year. First off, thank you Yelpers for the heads up about the long wait times and no reservations. We made a bee line for Arashi right after leaving the slopes (arrive before 5:00 and no wait). We were repeat customers during our 1-week stay and had the shoyu and tonkotsu. Both were comforting and heavenly - the broth was perfectly seasoned, the ramen was fresh and cooked al dente, the toppings were delicious. They allowed to me substitute some of the toppings (I need my veggies). Needless the say, the service was great - the waiters knew the menu well and were very friendly. We're from So Cal where ramen is plentiful, but Arashi is a top contender for the best ramen ever. We'll be back. read more

I was really excited to try this new ramen place in banff, coming from calgary we have many good ramen places so i had to compare. Local is small, we had to wait 20 min for a table. Once seated, we ordered chicken karaage, arashi ramen, miso ramen and sukiyaki bowl. The arashi ramen was delicious at first, but after a few more bites it kept getting heavier and heavier, had to keep drinking water just to be able to swallow, but it did taste good. Miso ramen was just ok, chicken karaage could be better, it was not very moist inside, and it did not come with the usual chili mayo but other sauce that didnt tasted as good. Overall. Good to try one time, but may not come back. However!! They also have a small To Go area in the first floor where u can buy food and snacks to go. Prices were good and food( ordered takoyaki, poke bowl and coffee can) was delicious! read more

Actually run by Japanese people! Coming from Ottawa this was honestly quite the surprise for me. Because of this the food was amazing, I had the shoyu ramen and chasu rice bowl. The rice bowl was filling enough to get my family through all the waiting and was quite delicious. The shoyu ramen comes with an egg, naruto, chasu, bamboo shoots, green onions and some other vegetable. The soup wasn't too salty and flavoured just right and I absolutely loved the noodles. They were the right amount of chewy and soft. The place is quite affordable if you stick to the basics ($11) a bowl and they have a daily special priced at $10. However, the place itself is tiny and the wait is long. If you're in a rush to get food I would recommend getting take out, because otherwise you'll probably have to wait an hour or more for food. read more

Solid ramen place in Banff and well priced compared to some of the other restaurants in the area. The place is confusing to find - you have to go to the second floor of the Sundance mall and wait in line outside the restaurant. The place is first come first serve and there's no list to put down your name. In addition, the bathroom is downstairs in the basement. My brother got the tonkatsu and I got the veggie tantan men. I thought the tantan men was pretty good - the vegetables were not classic ramen toppings (there was spinach, corn and peppers) but I guess they have to make do with what they can get in Banff. The broth was very thick and rich and heavily sesame flavored. I like this kind of soup but it's definitely not for everyone. My brother, on the other hand, thought that his soup was overwhelmingly salty, even after diluting it with a cup of water. You have to pay at the counter after your meal! I never expect such comforting ramen bowls in Banff. One of the best tonkotsu bowls I ever had. Egg was perfect. Broth had a complex taste, felt like an umami from mushroom, never had that before. The only reason I didn't give them 5 star is that they have a very problematic system. As there is always a line, but they don't even have a waiting list in any form to track how many ppl in your party, your name, you just line up outside by yourselves. But people are not usually aware how the line goes, you can already tell what would happen. Hopefully they can improve. read more

Whoa, Banff actually has a solid ramen eatery! I'm impressed. Coming from someone who lives in SoCal and has access to some pretty good ramen eateries, I'd say this place is in my top 5. I'm EXTREMELY picky about the noodles for ramen, and this place delivers. Noodles were cooked perfectly and "cling to broth." I ordered their signature ramen and it came with some chashu, half of seasoned egg, nori, bamboo shoots, and spinach. I've had better cha shu and portion is a bit on smaller side for the price, but it's located right in the middle of the town, so if you're a tourist staying in Banff, this place is most likely within walking distance from your hotel. It's pretty popular (judging from the line of people waiting when we came in), but the line moved quickly. Service was also pretty quick, probably due to the simplicity of their menu. It's too bad they ran out of gyoza when we came in, but if you have the chance to try it, you should. The reason I'm docking a star: Unclear instructions about waiting in line. The written instructions outside of the restaurant only says to "wait in line" and point the arrow to the bench, but apparently you're supposed to "sign in" first by putting your name on the waiting list. Or if the list is not available, let the staff know. Almost ALL eateries in the US go by this rule (especially during busy dinner time) so by habit, we automatically walked to one of the staff and put our group down in their list, but two groups ahead of us sat on the bench without signing in with the staff and were pretty upset that our "party of three" got called before them. I feel that the staff should make it clear in the written instructions to "put your name on the list AND THEN go wait in line for it" because it's a touristy area and guests can be coming from countries that don't go by this "sign in and wait" rule. Need to know: 1. You pay at the front after your meal. 2. If there is a line outside the door, go check in on their waiting list before you sit down and wait. Lol 3. Place is extremely small. If you have large party (more than 4 people) maybe its better to do take-out. read more

Food was good, although this is my first time actually trying ramen from a restaurant, so not much to compare to. There is no signage from outside, so kind of difficult to find. Busy place, had to wait a while to order and get the food; we took it to-go. Service was nice. They do not have anything with chicken on the menu anymore, so the older menu photos are not valid anymore, no Shio ramen or anything similar, literally the only chicken they have is the fried chicken dish. I am writing this review soley based on eating the Shoyu Ramen. I ordered the Shoyu with extra broth and extra pork because the soup only comes with one measley piece of pork. For starters the pork tenderloin is flavourless and boring. Its just sliced pork tenderloin. The broth is an even bigger joke. Its not original porkbone based broth and if it is, it feels like a flavoured instant broth thats been overly clarified. Realy seems like canned broth. Shoyu is really just soy sauce they add. The noodles themselves are ok but just seem regular. I was not impressed with this place. Based on the reviews its not what it should be. I have no idea about the other items. Maybe they are good. Service was meh. Nothing outstanding. Price is ok. read more
