Japanese Ramen in Delaware exists! We stopped in for lunch, hungry for real Japanese-style ramen and we were not disappointed. We started with the karaage fried chicken and the gyoza. Both were good, the karaage was better and while both appetizers were served quickly and piping hot; the gyoza were more Chinese in flavor than Japanese. The karaage was also an interesting take - but very tasty. The ramen was very good. We tried the Miso Ramen, Spicy Ramen and the Tonkotsu Ramen which is my favorite. The broth and noodles were delicious (and for Japanese, you can get a bowl of rice on the side as well) and the traditional ramen accompaniments like bean sprouts, menma, ajitsuke tamogo (egg) etc., were very good. It must have been an off day when the food wasn't delicious, because I ate here recently and the food was tremendously better. Since the pork buns were sooooo good, we ordered a few more than we normally do, which was probably caused by us being super duper hangry and being excited about the food tasting good. This may have been one of the best experiences I've had at this restaurant, the last time I ate here. We talked with another customer, who was super sweet, and there was hardly anyone seated. I've been coming to Ramen Kumamoto ever since it opened, and have had many great meals within these walls. Main Street too often panders to the bland tastes of the average White American palate, with authentic world cuisine hard to come by and sterilized Americanized eateries like El Diablo springing up left and right. The food carts and a select few Middle Eastern restaurants can claim respectable authenticity, but Ramen Kumamoto is even closer to the real deal. The staff has changed recently, but the newcomers are figuring it out. Service is generally prompt, but if you want something, ask for it. Appetizers here are worth every bite. The takoyaki, octopus cooked in balls of batter, is a favorite of mine, but let them cool off before you bite down. The charshu onigiri, a rice ball with pork in it, is delicious. The gyoza are good, and the sauce used on the chicken in the slider buns is exclusive to that item. Ramen is the focal point of the establishment, and fittingly, the Kumamoto cooks make it well. The miso ramen is a more advanced flavor, while the mayu ramen is robust in its seasonings. My favorite is the tonkotsu ramen; the pork falls apart as your stir the contents of the bowl, and there's plenty of ginger, bean sprouts, mushrooms and bamboo shoots to make each bite a delectable flavor combination of your choosing. Outside the noodle sphere, there are two other main course dishes I recommend. The karaage chicken curry is a delight, with delicious pieces of chicken breast served alongside white rice and a lovely curry. (When I get ramen, I like to add the side mini curry bowl for an extra $2.) Finally, the dish I consider to be Ramen Kumamoto's greatest achievement, is the charshu don. This rice bowl is topped with Japanese pork, pickled radish, and scallions. The meat is soft, with an out-of-this-world taste. For drinks, I like the lychee Calpico and the melon Ramune. I hear they may be getting a liquor license someday, which is certainly worth looking forward to. The green tea mochi for dessert is also recommend. Ramen Kumamoto hits the spot. read more

I can't speak for the ramen because all the appetizer options really caught my eye! So being a person that loves trying so many foods, I chose to get a bunch of appetizers as my main meal. Best choice ever. Every single appetizer did not disappoint. The pork steams buns were really tasty! I would rate them in my top steamed buns I've ever had. You also cannot go wrong with steamed dumplings. The seaweed salad was just as good as I always remember It to be! Came here for dinner. The place was a little hard to find since it wasn't on the main road and is actually behind the building on E main street. We ordered the pork buns for appetizer and the shoyu and miso ramen. The pork buns where steamed and tasted pretty good! Pork was tender inside and the sauce they put on it was paired well. Both ramens came out and the broth tasted really good for both of them. They didn't need additional sauce since they were already flavorful. What really made the dish was the soft boiled egg and the pork belly that came with the ramen. The pork belly was so tasty I would have liked one more piece (only came with two slices for a small bowl). The service was also good. They refilled our waters and was attentive. We did not however got the array of toppings ( sesame seeds, sesame oil, toaster garlic etc) to go with our ramen. We grabbed the set from the empty table next to us. Ahhh ramen - my favorite type of men ;) Ramen Kumamoto is perfect on a frigid winter day and they have so many noodle choices on the menu that I didn't know what to get! After some consideration, I finally decided on the spicy ramen, which has a soup made out of chicken and seafood broth and is topped with roasted pork, kimchi, bean sprouts, mushroom, scallion, and a boiled egg - it turned out to be a perfect choice, but I'm sure their other ramens are delicious as well. The broth was so flavorful and soothing that I drank it all up even when I finished all my noodles; the roasted pork, which was paced so artistically on the bed of bean sprouts, was definitely my favorite part of the dish. The pork was sososo tender and juicy, and with the addition of scallions and a few noodles, it complemented the spicy broth perfectly. Although the ramen was only $12, it comes with so much food that I could barely finish it all. My stomach was so full by the end of the meal that I could hardly move and it definitely kept me full for most of the day! 10/10 would recommend to all food lovers. Probably sake) where people can eat alone, which I very much appreciate because it stays authentic to Japanese culture. Why is it so bad for people to eat alone in public right? The ambience of the place is very chic and I love the design. I've probably had everything on the menu here and everything is delicious! I also like it that their ramen are not very oily compared to some places. My favorite dishes are the chicken karage curry, the beef udon, the gyudon, and the shoyu ramen. I visited Ramen Kumamoto with some friends and had a nice experience. I started lunch with some Pork Buns. The buns were nicely soft and filled with sweet tender pork and crisp veggies. Next I had the Spicy Ramen. The bowl is larger than it looks in the pictures and is filled with tender moist pork, savory noodles, addictive soft boiled eggs, tender mushrooms, and crisp kimchi all soaked in a flavorful spicy broth. I really wanted to like this place. They have a really cute interior with anime playing on two screens, one was playing the last airbender and not sure about the other screen when I went in. I love Kumamon so this was one of the reasons I got hyped when I saw him. Kumamon is the mascot for Kumamoto Prefecture FYI. He's a cartoon black bear. They have a weird seating check in, even though there were no lines and only two tables, the waitress told me to put in my phone number in the Yelp waiting list tablet. Ok, so right after we got seated and I get a text from the restaurant my tables ready. Not sure what the point of that is aside from collecting our contacts. My mom got the Mayu and I ordered the spicy ramen and we also ordered pork belly buns steamed for appetizers. Our food took forever. Even though we had gotten there and placed our orders before a slight lunch rush, we were waiting around a good 15minutes with no appetizer in site while other tables got their food. We had to flag down waiters to ask what the hold up was. Another 8 minutes passed before our steamed pork belly buns came and they were ok. The steamed baos come with cucumber and a sriracha Mayo. The baos texture was perfect soft and the pork belly was fatty so with two bites it was gone. Finally our ramen came and we were both disappointed , maybe because we had just had Akira a few days ago but this ramen was lacking. GROSS... This is what we got in the noodle - A USED BAND-AID - already in my mouth and almost swallow it (color very close to kimchi in the noodle). Chewing a BAND-AID is not fun and still feel sick hours after. Now there is still the antiseptic cotton flavor in my mouth... I know people can find all kinds of stuff in restaurant food, such as hair, bugs, etc, but a BAND-AID is really new to us. I went with my family and we shared several bowls together. Nobody wanted to continue eating after seeing the BAND-AID and me trying to throw up. The worst restaurant experience we've ever had...Still sick now!!! We ended up canceling the order because we're not going to pay $30+ for two bowls of soup, plus $7 for a tip plus a fee that is supposed to keep prices low.
