The staff were quick and friendly, food came out in a timely manner, and we enjoyed everything we had. Wilmington, DE - the flavors here are sort of a fusion Japanese-Chinese/Taiwanese-Korean and not authentically Japanese, but the food is pretty decent. We ordered some ramen and donburi bowls, along with gyoza and Korean fried chicken (half spicy garlic, half original plain). It was a lot of food! My chashu donburi was was interesting - it's drizzled with sweet mayo, but the chashu was quite dry and not that tender. The marinated egg is perfect however. My family all really enjoyed their dishes, and I thought the gyu ramen was a standout and had a nice flavor. The noodles are well-cooked: firm and al dente. I would order from here again and would like to try the tonkotsu or tan tan ramen which are my usual go-tos. 3.5 stars but rounding up to 4 stars for being open on July 4th! read more

I was very excited to learn that there was a ramen restaurant near me and couldn't wait to try it out. This was our family dinner night out and we were all hungry and ready for some good ramen. They offered a number of different recipes for ramen and good list of appetizers. We had the Korean fried chicken tenders jumbo shrimp shumai and then our ramen. **Whenever I eat Asian food out I always drink beer and specifically Sapporo.** For this to be our first time at this restaurant, and stated to the waiter, I would have liked the waiter to go over the menu and give us suggestions and favorites, but I'm learning that service is no longer prioritized in certain aspects. Luckily we are not new to ramen and kinda knew what we wanted. That's my only dislike. The food was excellent, enough for leftovers and I surely ate mine for lunch the next day. We came to Yokai Ramen on a chilly Sunday afternoon - the perfect kind of day for ramen and it hit the spot! The service was great, everything came out quickly, and we didn't have to wait for a table, which was a nice surprise. We all shared some Korean fried chicken, and it was absolutely delightful and full of flavor. We tried both the soy garlic and the cheese versions. But probably not something I'd crave or go out of my way to have. The minced meat was good in the tan tan noodle. Was eager to try this place: we've had a surplus of pho places recently, but no ramen in Wilmington. The ramen was great: my "jigoku" ramen (pork broth, fried chicken breast, spicy) tasted great, was super filling, and the individual components were all delicious. The broth was hearty without being too heavy, and the serving size was generous. My kid was happy with his vegetarian ramen. The dining area and decor are surprisingly pleasant. And service was fast, attentive, and polite. Couple of minor quibbles--would be nice if they asked how firm you want your noodles (I prefer mine a little firmer than I got), and I wish I'd had a bigger bowl for my ramen even with the same portion size (it got a little crowded). Awful, awful, awful. We have eaten a lot of Asian food in the last 50 years (most of it in California) and this food was worst we had ever experienced. I had Unagi Donburi. Who puts mayonnaise on Unagi? The slimy mouth feel was absolutely horrible. My partner had Grilled Chicken Ramen. The source of the broth could not be determined. It was strange tasting and certainly not flavorful. The chicken had no taste and I would describe it as 'dryed' rather than grilled. Neither my or my partner could finish our meals. We went to Yokai for our first time and we were very happy with our food and the service. Ramen isn't a regular food for us, so we wanted to try it at a dine in place and this was a great decision. We started off with the chicken buns and the shrimp shumai, and they were flavorful and not too filling. For the ramen we asked for suggestions without pork and we decided on the Jigoku ramen and the shrimp tempura udon. The Jigoku ramen is spicy and you can specify your spice level. I went with one to be safe and it still definitely had a nice kick, not too hot to burn your mouth, but a nice chili oil flavor. This complimented the crispy chicken, cabbage, and corn nicely. The shrimp tempura udon was not spicy, it had a good flavor and we did end up getting a side of chili oil to add a little kick. The bf also added a topping of chicken Kara-age that added some more crunch. He likes the udon noodles more than the thinner noodles, and he really enjoyed them with everything that came in the soup. The portions are plentiful and we both ended up taking almost half of our soup home for lunch. The service was great and very attentive. We opted for an iced green tea instead of a cocktail or wine, and there were options for the tea. Prices seemed very reasonable, and we will definitely be back to try more. read more

I was seated immediately on a Sunday afternoon and immediately impressed at how clean and open the restaurant was. There is a decent- sized bar with lots of open areas for seating. Some places pack in as many tables as possible and end up feeling cramped. Yokai has lots of room, and you'd never worry about bumping into another patron just getting out of your chair. Drinks came out quickly, and the server was very friendly! The interior is calm with a great aesthetic; very pleasant piano covers playing in the background at a comfortable level. The menu had lots of options for different dietary restrictions (I don't eat pork, but I do eat other meat, so I was very pleased there were other soup bases available. The presentation and plating of my entree was Grade A. I ordered the Jigoku Ramen (spice level 1) and it was incredible. The perfect kick, a little spicier than anticipated, but I loved it. They do put a bunch of ingredients in the set dishes and it looks pretty too. The broth is a bit bland, not salty so you are able to add more to your liking. They did remake their ramens, but it sour our experience. Also, the pork belly they use was too tough. I expect it to be more tender. Went to this place a couple of times and this is the best ramen in the area. There is a dearth of good Asian food in the area, so this was a welcome addition to north wilmington. I've been here a couple times and my go-to is the vegetarian ramen with chili oil & black garlic oil, so good!!! I'm picky with vegetarian ramen because they can tend to be on the bland side, but this one has lots of flavor, the fried tofu is sooo good!
