Ramen Ya is a small place in comparison to their popularity. What seems to be an old Pizza Hut has been transformed into a casual ramen eatery. The BLACK JACK RAMEN was fantastic! The pork was tender, well seasoned and surprisingly lean. Often you get more fat than meat with Chashu, but here it was the exact opposite. At least that was my experience. The ramen here is phenomenal! This is my first time here. I tried the tonkotsu ramen which was so rich in flavor. It comes with an egg and 4 pieces of chashu which was so so tender. It literally melts in your mouth! My friend got the black jack which has garlic oil which was also good. The wait on a Wednesday evening was about 30-40 minutes wait, but it was so worth it. This is still my go to spot for Ramen. The curry Ramen is top notch. Over the years I have seen them become skimpy on the portions of noodles and they have also decreased the amount of broth given. The normal portion is now a half portion. It's disappointing to see a place I and been supporting since they opened start to cut corners and also increase the price charged for the smaller portion. Because of this I don't go as often. I didn't see the original gentleman there anymore, makes me wonder if he sold the business, which would make sense for all of the changes to the portions. The noodles had a good chew/spring to them (and built on location; you can see them make it from a window in the building). And the chashu meat is to die for. the ambiance: I think this is kind of where the limitations start to present itself. The building appears to be an old pizza hut location and there's not too much seating available. It's not uncommon for there to be a long wait list to get seated depending on when you go, so choose wisely. There's not much to look at from a decor-standpoint, but it does have a home-y ramen shop vibe, so I don't mind it especially since the food is so good. the service: not sure if it's understaffed or the system they have in place, but it was hard to get servers to come to our table at times. For what it's worth, everyone was very nice, but it definitely felt busy. Came here for a bowl of ramen on a chilly evening. Ramen Ya is located behind the Sunoco across the lot from Giant grocery store. The building looks like it was a Pizza Hut in a previous life. We entered and were immediately assisted by a pleasant man and taken to our table. We were seated next to an open glass window where a young lady was making the fresh ramen noodles. She feed the dry pasta into a machine and out came a continuous sheet of noodle pasta slowly winding to form a roll, which she took off and transferred to a holding reel and proceeded to make the next one. Cool! We proceeded to order the tonkasu bowl and I got mine spicy with chili oil and flakes. We also order the pork buns and gyoza. The buns were soft,fluffy, and light with a perfect portion of pork with a dab kewpie mayo to hold it together. Nice taste. The gyoza arrived fried on one side and was tasty. Our bowls arrived hot and steamy full of the thin ramen noodles, green onions, bean sprouts, half an egg, and sliced pork all bathing in a pork broth with mine topped with a layer of chili oil and flakes. The broth was tasty and not heavy, which I liked. The noodles were perfectly cooked with the right amount of chew. The pork was cooked perfectly as well, and was tender. The egg was soft boiled, which I personally don't care for, but I drowned it in the broth and came back to it later and it was perfect. The bean sprouts and green onions were fresh and had the right amount of crisp to accompany the noodles, broth and pork.
