Great Korean food with good portion sizes and good service. There's only a few parking spots in the front but plenty in the back. The tteokbokki rice cakes we're a little chewy and tougher than I typically like, and I usually like the sauce to be a little sweeter. It was not too spicy that I could not handle it which I liked. The banchan was great and they refilled it. Spicy chicken bulgolgi was tender and not dry but was a bit smaller than I expected for the price. Ja Kum Sung is a local Korean spot serving up HUGE portions of the spicy seafood noodle soup (jjamppong) and a large variety of side dishes! I always get the black bean noodles here which comes with plenty of sauce, meat, onions, and bits of potato. Another favorite dish is their sweet and spicy fried chicken (Kkanpunggi), it's deliciously saucy and crispy. The service can be a bit slow but the ladies are always so generous with handing out unlimited side dishes and refilling your waters. This is one of those places where I hesitate to review because even though I know everyone knows how good this place is. still, I'm afraid 1 more good review will make it hard to get in to to dine. But that's unfair to the business so here I go... There welcome they give you makes you feel valued. The constant attention which is not intrusive , from all who work here is something that kinda makes you feel like you are family. As you are seated a variety of small, complimentary side dishes are placed on the table to share. The one thing I love about this place is that if I decide to dine alone I still get a proper amount and variety of these small side dishes. And I finish every single 1! I recently learned this is called benchan and a Korean tradition. Let's hope this tradition doesn't disappear like the free pot of Tea has disappeared at Chinese Restaurants. These free side dishes is like a " Hello and Thank You for coming" kind of start to every great meal here. The menu is huge. Everything I've tried here is fabulous. This is where you go to encounter sweet and hardworking ajummas. The restaurant is a local spot where many families and friends come to eat quality food, receive no-frills service, and enjoy a homely experience. Located abruptly on an unassuming road, you'll find pulling in is wildly accessible with a few parking spots at the front (for some reason 10ft away and exposed to the highway) and parking at the back. As you walk in, the restaurant is heavily stylized with wood to reflect a modest and comfortable surrounding. The lighting is naturally dim accompanied by pop music played aloud. As you're quickly seated by the ajummas and handed the menu, you'll find that they offer a wide variety of dishes. To the inexperienced purveyor of Korean food, this can be daunting. As a suggestion for those joining us late in the game, please do try their jjangmyeon with pork and beef tangsuyok. They are solid options at this place and friendly to an Americanized-accustomed palate. For my Korean food enthusiasts, I can whole heartedly recommend their Kalbi tang and pork bulgogi. The Kalbi tang and pork bulgogi comes with a complimentary side of rice (of which you may require another). The pork bulgogi can be appreciated further for an extra $3 as you can opt in for a lettuce and ssamjang wrapping instance. The Banchan is not as extensive as other Korean restaurants but they're solid - their in house kimchi and fish cakes were my favorite. The spicy kalbi tang is spicy, but not spicy enough to regret it the next morning. The thin rectangular slices of radish were plump from soaking in the broth. Paired with broth poured over rice, this can already be enough. However, the prime short rib was the star of the show. Prime short rib is hard to get wrong, but harder to use perfectly - they used it perfectly here. Instead of silencing the beef flavor with an abundance of seasoning, the stew enhances the meatiness and umami nuances of the prime short rib. This is not to say that the prime rib did not take up any flavor, but it is perfectly balanced. You can taste the quality of the ingredients as well as the thoughtfulness of the dish. The pork bulgogi paired with lettuce wraps is a personal preference of mine - it is quality marinated pork served on a small bed of sweated onions. There's very little for me to say but it's just a simple cooked meat dish done well. Eating the pork bulgogi with rice is fine on its own, but enjoying the pork with the lettuce wraps adds a dimension of freshness and introduction of personalization that is up to the purveyor. For me personally, I add on ssamjang, sliced garlic (which you can ask for), sliced jalapeños (also ask for), and kimchi. All-in-all a stand-alone entree to get into. There's a reason that this place still stands the test of time. They have a solid menu and use quality ingredients. In all, please give this restaurant a try - it's that type of place where you recommend to both visitors and natives to the area. Cheers. read more

They have such a variety of food, I think the menu was like 8 pages, consisted of Korean and Korean-Chinese food. I'm a little disappointed. I loved coming here for my Korean food fix and decided to order uber eats for lunch. Seafood black bean sauce noodles and spicy pork were good but the shrimp dish (Kkunpung shrimp). OMG. What happened to it? Where it did go? If you're looking to be transported to Korea this is the place to be! Authentic Korean and Chinese dishes, from the meats to the noodles and the bonchans. I was really shocked at the quality of the food and the portion sizes. We ordered a bit too much not know how large the small japchae was or how big the pork belly wraps were! Not to mention the dumplings are massive. I truly enjoyed the bulgogi though, it was so flavorful! The tteokbokki was perfectly cooked with fish cakes and an egg. Reminded me of the street food carts in Korea. The service was quick and they were super sweet, all laughing and having fun. The food is extremely consistent here, and while their noodles aren't hand pulled, they are perfectly chewy and complements the delicious black bean sauce. The Tang soo yuk, or the sweet and sour pork, is also excellent here. Little hole in wall in the middle of Glen Burnie right along the busy Ritchie Highway. First we noticed is the parking. Not a while lot of parking space upfront, but there's a parking lot behind the restaurant. Not quite sure how late this restaurant is open for, but might be a bad idea to be parking back there late at knife. Broken beer bottles, used needles, used rubbers is a good telltale that the parking lot is being used more than a parking lot for the restaurant. Anyways, I'm here for the restaurant. Place wasn't busy maybe because it was on a midweek, early evening. We were greeted by a nice lady and got seated pretty quick. We were given the menu right off the bat, but our order weren't taken as fast as we expected. We already knew what we wanted - our baseline meal for every new Korean restaurant we got to. My wife - seafood pancake, our daughter and her bulgogi and my jjajangmeyon. It was probably 10-15 minutes before our food came, assuming that they were making some items from scratch, not really from scratch but not microwaved. Food came along with the typical ban chan. My daughter liked her bulgogi, the pancake was huge, crispy and flavorful. I am quite a snob with my jjajang, and this was a meh for me. Flavor - sure, quality was quite a let down. Massive amount of onions, little meat, no zucchini, no cabbage. Good flavor from onion and the black bean sauce. The quantity was sub par for the price and compared to other K-restos in i.e. Catonsville, Ellicott City. Place has charm because of the staff but we would think twice coming back here if we are craving for some quick Korean food and would much rather drive 20 minutes for a much better K food. read more

I'm so sad to say that Ja Kum Sung has gone downhill. The food has gotten worse, but service makes me not want to return. They're constantly short-staffed and I understand that they may be busy sometimes, but attitude is unacceptable to me as someone's who's worked as a server before. My husband recently got me some soup when I was sick and sadly, it did not help. It was a lot of liquid with not a lot of substance. Don't let the outside of this place deceive you, the interior is traditional Korean and has lovely tables made of slabs of wood. We had the seafood sundubu and pork tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork with vegetables). Both plates were delicious, refreshing, and good combination for a cold winter day. S/O and I were looking for a nearby Korean BBQ place for a lunch date and happened to find Ja Kum Sung less than 15 minutes away so we decided to give it a try. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff and seated right away as it was the middle of the day and while the restaurant did have some patrons, there were plenty of open tables for us to be seated comfortably. The venue had a warm and cozy feel to it and looked like a traditional authentic Korean restaurant. Dark mahogany-like wooden tabletops and warm lighting made us feel right at home. We decided to order some cheese Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) as an appetizer to start things off along with some Peach Soju and a can of coke as a chaser (although the Soju was so good that it really didn't require a chaser anyway). Noticed that they also offered a lunch special period and we were right on cue to take advantage of the opportunity by ordering Spicy Chicken Bulgogi (Korean style BBQ chicken marinated in Bulgogi sauce: sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic, and sugar) along with Seafood Jajangmyeon (Korean black bean sauce noodles and seafood protein) and everything was accompanied with the usual Korean sides: pickled and fermented items which included kimchi and pickled veggies and the sort. The Tteokbokki was amazing. The cheese was soft and had a consistent taste that really complimented the thick pieces of rice cakes along with the spicy sauce that the dish was appropriately seasoned with. The spicy chicken Bulgogi was perfectly cooked leaving a tender and flavorful morsel with each bite. The Jajangmyeon was just as good and not to mention amply portioned. Prices were reasonable and not overly inflated (especially in these times) so that was another pleasant surprise. Overall, one the best authentic Korean restaurants in the Glen Burnie area. The waitress i often get is so nice and once even flagged us down in the car before leaving the parking lot to give us the leftovers we forgot on the table. My favorite menu item is the Gochujjampong so far. I used to take this place for granted living less than a mile away but now after moving out of state I miss it dearly. Even my granddaughter couldn't stop raving about the black beans & noodles; beef short ribs; beef bulgogi; beef lo mein; and the white rice. We ordered chicken fried rice as well but she preferred the white rice. We took containers of leftovers home and ordered more bulgogi and short ribs for the crew at home. Simply put, they devoured the food and wish to return with us. For dessert we tried the dough covered ice cream, in each flavor. We were stuffed from dinner but wanted to sample chocolate, coconut, mango, matcha, and two more flavors that escape me at the moment. This place is amazing! I honestly wouldn't have visited but a friend recommended it to me so I wanted to try it out. It seems like a dive on the outside but the food and service is amazing! They bring every dish out to you on a cart. Both my sister and I ordered a hot pot which were great, they give you sauces so you can add spice if you want. They even have options for vegetarians ( I ordered the vegetarian hot pot). My mom ordered the beef bulgolgi which she said was yummy and very filling. Growing up in a Korean household, I was spoiled by my mom's cooking and have a hard time finding dishes that match the taste. That being said, parking was easy, and seating was easy. There's a really great variety of items on the menu and some kimchi setups that were pretty good. Between our party of 3, we ordered the bibimbop, japchae, and maeun-tang. The flavors were not very... strong. I took my soup home to have my mom fix it up a bit to finish it. If it's full of younger Koreans, good luck. It was a slow night, but there were a couple tables of older Koreans eating. (And me!) Had to try Ja Kum Sung after seeing all the positive Yelp reviews! Until today my knowledge of Korean food was limited to kimchi and bibimbop, so I'm glad to have tried something new. We started with the seafood pancake and then shared the beef bulgogi and jjamppong (seafood noodle soup). All three were tasty, but the jjamppong was my favorite. An appetizer plus two entrees is a lot of food for 2 people here because they give you multiple small side dishes complimentary. We probably only needed 2 dishes, but I'm certainly not complaining about taking home enough food for leftovers tomorrow. Overall value for the money was good- the bulgogi was small for the price but the other 2 dishes were large. I got the brown sugar boba tea to drink- I was worried it was going to be sickly sweet but it was just the right amount for me. I appreciate that they serve it in a plastic cup so I was able to finish it after we left. Service was good but I was confused. I read a review that said there were call buttons on the table for service, so I pressed mine when we were ready to order and it was a little loud. I didn't see any other patrons press theirs so I didn't do it again. There was a waitress watching the tables later so I was able to ask her directly for extra napkins, and the bill was brought to us without prompting after we finished. We came on a Saturday night around 5:15pm. No issues getting seated, but there were so many takeout orders (standard, Uber Eats, Grubhub, etc.) that it was difficult to get as much service as we needed. There were two primary servers and one hostess. They were constantly on the move. As for the food, mostly hits with one slight miss. Since Ja Kum Sung advertises itself as a Chinese-Korean restaurant, I tried to order a mild version of Jamppong for my young boys (7 and 5). Jamppong is usually served as a very spicy dish, but I'd never seen if offered in a mild version. My older son loves all kinds of noodles, but my younger boy barely ate any. We had to fill him with the pajeon (seafood pancake) and fried mandoo (dumplings) instead. I had the jjajangmyun, which was good but I've had better. In reality, though they may specialize in Chinese-Korean cuisine, their menu was large and contained plenty of Korean traditional favorites. The menu, in fact, is too large to really appreciate in one visit. On a side note, the Yelp check-in discount apparently doesn't apply to weekends. read more
