Every time we have come in or ordered out the food has been delicious. This week we came midday and tried their happy hour specials along with a few sushi rolls. Ever since we stepped foot in Katana it feels like we've never left. I think we eat here twice a week now, thanks to the excellent menu, which offers pan Asian cuisine. The only thing that tops the food is Nancy, the restauranteur whose hospitality is unmatched, she goes out of her way to make sure she gets to know each customer when she's not running back and forth between phone, and balancing the business. She is genuinely in her concern and care and that makes this our new favorite. So far my family and I have had sunrise roll, eel/ avocado hand rolls, Shumai, butterfly roll, general tso's and spicy tuna/salmon--all delicious. You have fast become our go to spot, rightfully so. I love how peaceful it is in there as well, there can be 20 or more people and it's still calm. I highly recommend this place if you are wanting to try an affordable and delicious restaurant. The short: Katana Sushi has okay food with a giant menu ranging from sushi and other Japanese dishes to a few Thai dishes as well. I find it to be a bit of a "Jack of all Trades" situation where although they offer a lot of options, it's not really done all too impressively. Katana feels more like a takeout location than a dine-in option, but if you do decide to eat here, they have a decent-sized location with ample seating. If you were looking for a romantic/classy vibe for a get-together or a date, I think there are better options out there for sushi/Asian. The service was okay and our waitress was nice and accommodating. That being said, if you're looking for a quick bite or a to-go order, it hits the spot. The food isn't bad, it just kinda feels rushed together and the ingredients don't feel like the best quality. The dishes had decent flavor, but it left me expecting a bit more considering the prices still reflected a premium quality. All in all, it's a decent spot. Excellent take out and an okay place to eat at. I've enjoyed lots of take out from Katana. I love their miso, the sushi, chicken and shrimp teriyaki, bento boxes, and panang curry. The prices are a little steep but the serving sizes are big. I was not impressed with the ambiance though. Everything was sticky and I was expecting things to be a little nicer with those prices. Overall decent. Prices are reasonable, sushi has a good ratio of fish to rice, and the edamame is amazing. My biggest knock is that the spicy tuna roll with crunch I ordered was neither crunchy nor spicy. The plus is that we were able to get delivery when there weren't a ton of other options, and will likely order again in the future. The restaurant is clean and modern, while maintaining a very cozy and home-like environment, where polite, friendly and sincere staff promptly seat you. I cannot overstate the warmth of the Hostess, who treated us like family after our second visit. The prices are average for a Sushi restaurant, however the quality and freshness of the fish is well above average. The Red Snapper was moist, soft and had a bright, mildly briny and buttery flavor. The Koto Roll had a brilliant blend of textures and flavors, and though some of the flavors got lost, the overall taste was so pleasant that it more than made up for it! WHAT HAPPENED!? This review will be completely based on take out. It is not a reflection of dining-in which, as I rated last time, was good. That being said, I am never ordering takeout from here again if for no other reason than price. Dear Lord there was an upcharge for EVERYTHING. $2 for a little cup of spicy mayo, same for a little thing of eel sauce. (Did not see those up charges on a dining in bill) The general tso's my wife got had a paltry portion of rice and 6 nuggets of chicken and the meal cost over $15. Side bar here - I am noticing this as a TREND with restaurants for takeout. They are really cutting back the portion size of rice that comes with proteins and it's frustrating because, at cost to the restaurant, rice is one of the cheapest things. You might as well just get a protein tell them to discount the meal and make your own. A mistake that worked in our favor is they gave us a California roll none of us ordered but that also speaks to the fact they might have had someone new working there and hoping this isn't a sign of an epic down turn for this business because they do have awesome choices for sushi rolls. Generally, it is better quality than some of the cheaper places around so you don't feel instantly bloated after eating rolls. We didn't order a lot but our bill was still pretty expensive. Was back in my old neighborhood and had to come to Katana. Hadn't been in a while and brought the kids this time. The staff is so welcoming and were so nice to my kids. We got crab rangoons (mostly for my kids but I had one too and it was delicious!), my husband got orange chicken and shared with my kids. They all loved it. The quality of food is just so good. I dream about their sushi so I was so excited to get the rack city roll and salmon avocado roll. I have not find any sushi as good as Katana's where I moved and I've missed this place! I'm leaving my original 4 star review from a few weeks ago below--because those are my real thoughts about my first visit. Unfortunately, this visit was not the case. I've written nearly 200 reviews, never ever found anything in my food that shouldn't be there. I worked in a restaurant for six years and would never ever be the type of person to lie for free things. I preface this because I was not intially believed when I let them know I found a rubber band inside of my spring roll. Look accidents totally happen! I get that, but on the phone the girl kept reinforcing that they "do not have rubber bands so not sure how that could've gotten in there". This is my most local sushi spot & as you can tell below, it is very good! But this response was disappointing. Upon arrival they were then very apologetic and kind and I assured them it was okay things do happen and they gave an extra spring roll. But my cooked sushi at home is now just sitting while I ran back. For this reason, I'll probably never be back. While I appreciate the extra spring rolls, when I'm spending $26 (with tip, because I always am sure to tip carry out) on a meal, I expect to be treated like I'm not out to get anything from them aside from a nice dining experience. MY ORIGINAL REVIEW-- This place is delicious and local which I love! I ordered through the Yelp app (which uses Grubhub) & drove over to pick it up. They have it set up so you can't enter the restaurant, which personally I appreciate. My order was ready when I arrived and the host was SO sweet. I had the Phoenix roll and it was so so good. Also had the veggie spring rolls and those were very good as well. My brother had the miso soup, Cali roll & a spicy tuna with crunch and really liked all of his!! Order: Shrimp Tempura - Tempura is my all time favorite but this was a let down. I am really amped to have found Katana Sushi. In the times of Covid, I've been relying heavily on Grubhub to get my fill when my husband and I don't feel like cooking. When I tell you I have searched high and low for what I consider a good Chinese food place, I mean it. I moved here from Massachusetts so while I have no frame of reference for *authentic* Asian food, I have very specific preferences. General Tso's chicken and crab rangoon are kind of my barometer for whether or not I enjoy a place and will return. Full stop - I will not likely order these from any other place from here on out. The chicken is crispy and they are super generous with the sauce - and it's flavored PERFECTLY to my taste. The crab rangoon could travel a bit better (I find they get a little softer than I'd like) but honestly the flavor is perfect which is really the biggest dealbreaker for me. And... THE PAD THAI just... order it. It's damn near perfect. I recommend the house pad thai, but the veggie pad thai is equally delicious. We did get some sushi delivered, and it was good - my only problem is ordering. Some of the sushi components were a bit unexpected - might be because I didn't pay attention, might be because menus don't translate well, either way it was delicious - but if you want to know what to expect maybe go in person or be super familiar with your sushi orders. Ordered some avocado rolls and edamame. Total ~$12.95. I thought the portions were rather small for the price but the service was quick and this was a healthier alternative to french fries. The seating area in the restaurant seemed rather small and it was busy on this particular afternoon. There is a an area by the sushi bar with about six stools. On average a roll was between $13-17-for a typical 6-8 sushi roll, and they weren't overly impressively stuffed. They have a very large menu with sooo many things that is hard to decide. That's why I got the Bento Box and I loved it! it had a little bit of everything and more than enough for my lunch tomorrow.... It's a small restaurant overall, but because I was there on a Wednesday night, it wasn't crowded and I was seated quickly. I ordered tempura veggies and a chirashi for dinner. The tempura veggies came out quickly and were yummy. For $6, you get a pretty hefty pile of deep fried deliciousness. I mostly enjoyed my chirashi. The tuna was a little icy, but the rest of it was adequately thawed and tasted fresh. I was happy with my service as well. They kept my mug of tea topped off with hot water and were quick to fix an issue with my order. I plan on coming back the next time I have a sushi craving. Located in a strip mall directly across from a Holiday Inn this is a license for almost guaranteed success. That said the food quality here was far above expectation. The menus is vast almost a bit too big but there is a mix of sushi Japanese Chinese and Thai choices so get prepared for some decision making. It too as a costly place so be prepared to spend. I was a little rushed by the waiter but when asked for some extra time he disappears until I was able to flag him down. Not feeling the sushi vibe last night I got sesame chicken and it was crazy good. The portion was huge and I can say you need a group of people to eat here. Order a few things and share.
