This was a part of a mini strip mall with a decent number of tables. The menu had a few sushi rolls along with some appetizers and a number of different types of ramen. The service was friendly, and the food came out fast. For an appetizer, the pork buns and Takoyaki were ordered. The buns had pork belly, shredded lettuce, and some type of sauce I believe. There were two per order. This was not bad. The actual bun was a little tough, but the filing was tasty. I did not think the lettuce was needed when I initially saw it, but I liked the texture with everything else. The Takoyaki was fried octopus with Takoyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, and bonito flakes. This was alright. The octopus was fried appropriately and there were definitely pieces of octopus present. The combination of the Takoyaki sauce and the Japanese mayo was a nice feature. The bonito flakes I was not a fan of due to the smell. I think it was the flakes anyway. For an entrée, I had the spicy miso. It had pork, bean sprouts, corn, soft boiled egg, and bamboo shot with a spicy chili oil. I believe that was everything. It was solid. I wish it came out a little hotter, but besides that, nicely done. The crispy corn was really good and wished there were more of that, surprisingly. The pork was tender and flavorful as well. The black jack ramen was incredible! A friend and I were in the area and stopped in for a quick ramen fix, not knowing that this was going to exceed our expectations. We both got the same thing and ended up loving it. The broth was everything I needed, creamy, flavorful, but somehow not too spicy. The real star of the show was the pork chashu. Came here today with my daughter for lunch. The restaurant was quite empty, but there were several take out orders for sure. We ordered the Tonkatsu black, and Chicken shoyu ramen. I also ordered the California roll. Let me start with the roll. The first piece I got immediately broke up. The rest of the roll all had similar problems. I am not sure if it was the chef's skills, or the rice was too sticky. Taste was typical. Disappointed. The two ramens: we had two different types of ramen! One is more yellow and thick, and the other one thin and more white! Not sure why. There were not any descriptions of the different types of ramen noodles in the menu. The soup was flavorful for both. My char siu pork was very smooth and melted in my mouth. The chicken was also very nice. However, the egg was cold. My char siu was also quite cold. I had never had any ramen where the egg and meat were served cold! Very odd. Also, the women's bathroom was closed for renovation. That left the entire restaurant with only one men's bathroom for all patrons. That is unacceptable! Well, compare to other ramen restaurants I have been too, Ramen Ya is not up to par. I see many yelpers commenting "The best ramen in the area". Maybe it is for the area. Please drive to Morristown or Montclair for much better ramen experience. read more

Update: I've been here numerous times, and enjoyed it; but my last experience here may just be my last. Friendly service at the start, but the management and the training of the staff needs much improvement - like actually writing down your order vs going off of memory, which i believe is the root cause of this issue. This last experience could have been handled better. They gave me the wrong order, giving me a spicy bowl of Tonkotsu, when I ordered the regular Tonkotsu. The manager and staff defended at how the dish is made, stating that they put spicy chili oil on the regular Tonkotsu. This obviously doesn't make any sense, as the photos and my past orders never had spicy chili oil. This dish was inedible (for me) as I cant eat spicy foods. I left it untouched after only a few bites. Rather than offering to make it right - they offered a measly 25% off my 'next purchase'. The management and staff needs retraining on how to treat customers or update thier menu to say that there is no difference between tonkotsu and spicy tonkotsu. read more

It may be hot out now but the air conditioning at RamenYa keep it cold enough to enjoy ramen in summer. The ramen continues to be the best in the area! I placed a phone order for 2 Black jacks, 1 Tonkotsu, 1 shrimp bun. Upon pick up, only 1 Black jack was prepared and was told the order was understood as 2 ramen total even though I repeated the order of 2 Black jacks and the receptionist confirmed. There was a lot of background noise when placing the order and someone saying there's a rat and laughing. The environment is not professional and the workers don't care about the customer. I called 4 times to talk with a manager and kept being placed on hold. I was told the manager would call me back but the receptionist never asked for my number. I would not recommend to go to this location unless poor customer service is fine with you. I didn't know there was a new ramen spot in Branchburg! I went with a friend and she got the tonkatsu ramen, and I got the veggie curry ramen. I liked the broth in my ramen but I felt like it tasted like maggi noodles to me, and the broth wasn't very hot when it came out. I think next time I'll go with the veggie ramen. So excited to have a spot focused on Ramen in the area. Four of us shared several appetizers: edamame, chicken gyoza, shrimp tempura and pork Bao buns. All were very good. You can't mess up edamame. The filling in the chicken gyoza was tasty. The shrimp tempura was crispy and not too greasy. The pork Bao buns were also very good. I wish the pork in the Bao buns was a little more tender. The only disappointment across the board was that everything was missing a sauce to dip in! We tried the Shoyu ramen, the miso ramen and the spicy tonkatsu. While everyone enjoyed their choice of ramen, the standout was the spicy tonkatsu. That broth was to die for! So hearty and rich with a little kick! I loved that the pork belly was the right amount of fatty for my American palate! One of us got the fried chicken karaage as an add on to their ramen for the extra protein - clutch! We sampled some of their signature beverages and the mochi ice cream. Enjoyed it all. Our waiter was super willing to answer all of our questions. Ordered food, drove 15 mins to pick up. Get back and discover was given wrong cheaper sushi roll. Call and tell them, guy says come back and we'll make it right. I get back, tell them I touched a piece before I realized they gave me wrong thing and guy just says that's Ok and takes it back. No offer of credit for lost time and gas money, no apology for wrong order, no saying ah just keep that one for inconvenience of having to drive another half hour for their mistake. Came here with my family on a Sunday afternoon. Walked in at 12pm and there were only 2 other tables occupied. We ordered gyoza and karaage for appetizers to share. The gyoza, although I like the fact it's pan fried instead of deep fried, it tasted like those store bought Korean frozen dumplings (it had Korean glass noodles in it which is not seen in Japanese gyoza). The karaage was a little shocking when it was brought to our table. The use of chicken thighs made it juicy but the size was so big I felt like I was eating chicken nuggets. Karaage is also supposed to only have a light dry coating consisting of just flour or potato flour but they definitely used a liquid batter. It is a pretty good and solid chicken nugget but not karaage. It's also supposed to just simply served with mayonnaise and a squeeze of lemon juice but it came with a weird non mayo based spicy sauce. The Ramen was also very disappointing. The noodles were soggy, the broth was very salty, the ajitsuke egg, although the cooking time was done perfectly, was overly seasoned and very salty as well. I was gulping down water throughout the meal and just gave up and completely stopped eating half way through my bowl. Overall, the food was subpar and disappointing but not unexpected. The service however, was quick and our server was very friendly and attentive. So 1 star for the service and 1 star for ease of parking. read more
